ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mabel Yeo

Founder of Beauty Hero Club Like many other stories of success, I started at the bottom. My journey began as being a waitress. Later, I decided to shift into the sales industry. I had a dream of becoming a graphic designer, and I managed to pursue that dream. However, after two years, I got bored with the tasks of following instructions and all. After a few years, I got into the world of marketing with a rather significant role. Life in the industry of FMCG was fun and addicting. I loved how I was able to leave footprints in such big industry filled with competitive people. I know I said it was fun, but at that time, there was always a part of me that craves for something much more. I was looking for an opportunity to shift into another industry – the kind of industry that every creative artist would love to get into – the creative industry. My soul has always craved for a life in the creative industry. I believe it’s the perfect place for me to express my love in the beauty of art. However, my deep aspiration wasn’t enough to get me to the place that I desired the most. People live their lives, but not all strive to live their dreams. For quite a while, I have decided to just let go of my dreams and live my life as it is, but deep within my heart, I know I long to live my life with my dreams. I just didn’t know how. However, it seemed like God didn’t want me to give up.

God sent me a gift – a heart attack. Others, perhaps, would not consider it as a gift, but I did, and it was the best gift ever. Kelly Clarkson was right in her song. What doesn’t kill you does makes you stronger. This gift that God gave to me is the best. It has molded me to become braver, wiser, and much better as a person. This present pushed me forward to the life of my dreams. I moved forward and will continue to move forward until I have reached my dreams. My ultimate goal is to help others to leave significant footprints in the creative industry. I want to build a platform for all creative creatures to put their passion, love, and dreams together into a reality. This platform is especially designed for the appreciation of beauty, creativity, photography, and other branches under the creative industry. Like most startups, I am wearing many hats at the moment because of our limited resources. For this reason, I am calling all journalists, photographers, videographers, and creative designers to drop a note or two if you are interested in our platform. We would also be very thankful if you would support, collaborate, and/or fund our team. We are very much open to partnerships. Beauty Hero Club would like to express our deepest gratitude for everyone who cheered, supported and participated in the “BHC International #hairtitude Photography Competition ’16”. Thank you for the 46 contestants, who did their absolute best in the competition, as well as to the 11 international judges for their generous contribution throughout the competition. We would also like to thank everyone who sent their entries for the competition. There were a total of 70 international entries. Certainly, your entries have captured the attention of the judges and the audience in one way or another.

It was a great privilege for me to organize this competition. I had the chance to interview some of the participating artists and Judges, and I could feel the burning passion of each and everyone in the competition. Their stories are an inspiration. Their genuine love and passion for creativity inspires everyone to further move forward into the light of success.

As a supporting online media representative from Singapore, I had also the opportunity to have access to some of the international hair shows backstage. Indeed, makeup and hairstyling is not easy. I have seen how the artists have strived hard to make the models look good with inspirational makeup and hairstyles. It was a challenging task, but they manage to overcome them with love and passion. There’s one very important thing that I’ve learned from this valuable journey. Beauty and hair artists deserve great respect like all professionals.

y story proves that it is never too late for dreams to come true. I have gone through a lot, and it took me many years to finally make my dreams come true, but you don’t have to wait for a long time to make your move. Move now! This is the perfect time for you to finally make your dreams come true. I was so close to giving up, but I kept holding on to my dreams. Instead of wallowing with the problem, I moved on and pushed forward. I used the challenges in my life as a source of strength to do just about anything that I have always loved to do since day one. It’s great to make use of all the signs life throw at you, but you don’t always have to wait for life to give you signs. Sometimes, you just need to act by yourself with your own decisions. As what the famous poet William Ernest Henley said in his poem Invictus, “I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul”. Indeed, you are the master of your own fate and you are the captain of your dear soul. You have all the right and power to do what you love to with your life. You don’t have to wait for the “right” time. You can make every time right for you. Take a step now. Now is the time that you have been waiting for so long. You don’t have to be afraid. If you have dared to dream big, you must dare to do big. When it feels scary to jump, that is the exact moment for you to jump. Otherwise, you will end up staying in the same place for the rest of your life. You know you would not want that to happen.

In the process of reaching your dreams, you will hear different kinds of voices. Some will encourage you. Others, however, may bring you down. Do not allow the dull, discouraging words to reach deep within you. Do not allow these words to keep you from stepping out, getting big, and being true to yourself. It’s not going to be a smooth road. You will go a long, rough, and bumpy way. At some point, it will get you tired and exhausted. You can take a break, but don’t give up. Always keep going. n order for the plant to grow, it must have water. Similarly, for the passion to remain, it must have inspiration.

This publication is a collection of photographs from the participant in the competition. I have created this publication with the purpose of being an inspiration to all creative individuals not only in the country but also in the entire globe. The hairstyling industry is a difficult industry. For beginners, entering such a competitive industry can be daunting. The challenges can be overwhelming and the trials can be frightening, intimidating beginners away. This publication serves as the source of inspiration for all creative individuals who seek inspirational stories and motivational push. It keeps the fire burning. It’s a fuel to drive up aspiring individuals to success. When it rains cats and dogs, when the wind blows too hard and when the thunders keep rumbling this piece of work keeps the light on fire. This publication also serves as a tribute to all creative individuals not only those from the competition, but also those from around different parts of the world. It is also a documentation of the “BHC International #hairtitude Photography Competition ’16”, where these participants, judges, and supporters took part in.

All photographs in this competition came from the “BHC International #hairtitude Photography Competition ’16”. This competition is under the BHC (Beauty Hero Club), an online based community for hair and beauty specialists, and is organized by the YMF (You May Fly) Marketing Pte Ltd. There are 70 creative inspirational photos, 46 international contestants, and 11 international masters in arts judges. The photos were chosen by the judges and the best ones were awarded with Gold, Silver, Bronze and Top Voted awards. The competition was the perfect source of motivation and inspiration for aspiring creative individuals around the world. However, the event only happens once a year. This publication gives opportunities for all individuals in the industry to experience the event once again. This publication allows individuals to learn, get inspired and keep moving forward. Kai Kaiser Keen The Editor Salon, Malaysia

Description and Inspiration: With the inspiration on the modern side of the oriental parts of the world, I made this hairstyle in a way that it takes on a blunt, edgy pixie bob hair cut. The hairstyle bears a rebellious shade of orange, complementing the Asian skin tone and the body features of the model. The style of clashing culture and the unconventional angle of photography brings out the true attitude of a modern oriental chic.

Description and Inspiration: The water in the wide, moving ocean is constantly changing in color as every part of every day goes by. Sea water constantly changes and this scientific fact became my inspiration for this masterpiece. From the constantly-changing quality of light in sea water, I designed the hairstyle with the hair color themes of turquoise, royal blue, and ash blonde. The amorphous shape of the hair symbolizes the unpredictable movement of the waters swimming in the ocean. The makeup tells the same story as well. The domination of the colors of gray and blue out of all the other hues of colors in the entire look is simply mesmerizing.

Bloc+ The Salon, Singapore

Description and Inspiration: My inspiration for this masterpiece is a magnificent mythical creature â&#x20AC;&#x201C; an elf! For the hairstyle, I used sweet, delightful pastel colors. The hair cut is straight and plain, but it looks fascinatingly stunning. With most parts of the hair colored in various hues, the hairstyle is highlighted with the sweet color of pastel on the hair in front if the elfâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s ears, creating a realistic elf look. At the top of the head is a hair crown wrapped in the blended colors with an intricate design, adding a twist to the whole elf play.

Attitude

Photo, Hair and Make Up by: Avenir Plus Hair Academy Description and Inspiration: A messy look always has a way of adding attitude to a style. My inspiration for this hairstyle is based on the status of the modern days’ social life. Many people today are into a totally different kind of style. We are into “messy” looks now! My entry is undoubtedly relevant to the theme, as it adds more sense of attitude to the model. I made the color scheme of this hairstyle is purple. The model is wearing purple makeup matched with a messy purple hairstyle. It oozes a shambolic yet fancy appeal that brings a special kind of drama.

Sophisticated Punk

I choose this kind of look to prove just how a unique, out-of-the-ordinary haircut and hairstyle can transform a look in the most elegant and sophisticated way. I chose blue for the color scheme of the hairstyle to emphasize the beauty as well as the uniqueness of the modelâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s look. The color combination of light and dark shades of azure creates a very attractive and fascinating effect on the modelâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s hair and overall appearance.

Description and Inspiration: One of the most popular hairstyles in this modern age is the undercut hairstyle. We have seen plenty of undercut hairstyles all over the country, and this one deserves to belong to the list of the best as it gives a kind of â&#x20AC;&#x153;unconditionalâ&#x20AC;? attitude of a hairstyle. In this entry, I formed the undercut into a beautiful layers series of triangle shapes that artfully give way to a somewhat floriated array. I followed the Boho style to make the patterns much more unique. The undercut is perfect for girls who want to easily transform themselves from an innocent look into a rebel yet artistic look. With this hairstyle, we realize that attitude really is unconditional.

Proud In The Darkness Hair by: Ibel Lim Hang Siang Description and Inspiration: True beauty illuminates in the darkness. I designed the hairstyle to be very attractive so its beauty is unambiguous even in the midst of darkness. In making the hairstyle, I made a perfect blend of soft waves and hard straight strands to create a fascinating and illuminating effect. I also made a combination of pastel and solid colors for a captivating contrast look. This magnificent color combination that I made adds fullness to the top part of the hair. This overall craft of mine gives out a gothic yet playful marvel.

Description and Inspiration: The title of my entry says it all. The image shows Ben Russell, a famous hairstylist from London, showing off his extraordinary hair cutting and styling skills. He is basically my inspiration for this work. Not all men with tattoos are bad. Some simply go to parlors. Ben Russell, with all tattoos on his body, has deep love and passion for cutting and styling hair. In this image, you can see how a hair stylist works with all his mind, heart and soul to create a masterpiece of creativity. Here, Benâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s work is yet undone, but one can already picture out how astonishing the result will go.

Melt 《溶化》

At first glance, one would be curious and would ask questions. What is the theme of this entry all about? What materials are used in this project? How can an image be this intriguingly magnificent? My inspiration for this work is the ecological environment, with the issue of the continuous rise of waste pollution. The hairstyle I made, in particular, was inspired by marine life, affected by the garbage and other wastes thrown to the ocean. The makeup, on the other hand, shows the ecological imbalance of the environment. The light pink mysterious texture on the model’s skin signifies the “melting” of our environment – the slow destruction of mother earth. I purposely made this work to have a very deep implication. 《溶化》色彩：神秘形狀：曲線質地：輕盈，粉霧作品的主題是《溶化》，海洋生態環境污染，我們的海洋飽受

Authority《權威》

Nationalism has become a great influence on the authorities in the ancient and modern world as it has affected the history of the politics through the years. Authority and nationalism have become my inspiration for this hairstyle. I define the color of my work as a luxury and the shape as the curve of beauty. The history was told with the ethnic hairstyle of the model - dry black hair with red thorns. The national attitude was highlighted with the gold glitters on the skin of the model. The shining beads intensify the sense of attitude towards the national authority. 《權威》色彩：奢華，權威形狀：曲線質地：乾操民族主義的一般性定義極為廣泛，其爭議遍及古今《權威》，因為民族主義對世界歷史和政治影響巨大。世界上绝大多數人口都生活在權威下，名義上民主的國家之中髮型設計上利用民族風格，用乾操的髮片加上紅色的枝條去突出一種新的民族態度加上金色的珠片令整體《權威》感覺更強烈。

Granite Elegant

In this creation of mine, elegance is perfectly portrayed. I made the makeup to look simple yet stunning â&#x20AC;&#x201C; with light brown smoky eyes and a baby pink lip color. I complemented the simplicity of the makeup with a stunning hair cut, style, and color! Flowing in mid shafts, I colored the hair with elegant color tones of velvet red, vibrant purple and soft ash gray at the ends, creating a dramatic, colorful ombrĂŠ effect. I curled the hair in soft, lovely waves, finishing the look with a gloss and glam.

Moving Fire

I define the moving fire as the burning, moving fire deep within a soft, gentle woman. The fire within a woman gives her courage, strength, and power. With these, she can do what her heart desires the most. Indeed, women are full of potentials. I transformed the hair of the model to be the “moving fire.” I styled the hair with a splendid combination of blonde, pink, red, and purple colors on the ends. I curled the model’s hair with beautiful medium waves to achieve the “moving” look. The hair was blown upwards for a complete dramatic “moving fire” effect.

Aqua Pastel Blended

Its hair cut, style, and color are all unique and colorful. I designed the hairstyle so it complements well with the concept of the aqua pastel blend. The haircut is forward layered: every layer looks stunning. With the concept of pastel aqua, the hair was designed with soft and delicate shades of colors. Hair colors include pastel colors of ash gray, green, blue, and purple. The combination of these pastel colors fit perfectly together with the aqua concept. Its final polishing is a Clear Rich Treatment of Natural Herb Aroma Hair Color. This treatment makes hair shinier, healthier, and more beautiful

3D of Rose Blue &Rose Pink

My goal in this work was to create a wild but soft attitude for the model. I made the makeup look very interesting with the bold eye details. The red color theme of the eye makeup is enough to achieve a wild character. To balance the goal of the opposing features of wild and soft, I chose a soft color of baby pink tint for the lips. I designed the hair to show a combination of opposing characters. The hair color is mostly ash gray, which I made to look soft, innocent and gentle. I complemented the hair color with a few shades of purple â&#x20AC;&#x201C; light and dark â&#x20AC;&#x201C; to add a little bit of a rough effect.

Create Infinity Creativity Hair by: Homeboy Jason

Description and Inspiration: ∞ Create Infinity ∞ Creativity Infinity ∞ 创造无限创意无限 ∞ My goal for this work is to create infinity. To achieve an enchanting and magical look for the model, I created the whole image with a kind of unique, dramatic vibe. The hair has deep, intense curls. I added a rather peculiar snake-like prop that completes the look of the model. It emanates a supernatural hint that is truly fascinating.

True Color Hair by: Nick Chua

Description and Inspiration: My inspiration for this project is an attitude that illuminates true colors of beauty. I preserve the harmony of hair and makeup for this project. The eye makeup displays the fun and beautiful colors of light yellow and sky blue. The lips are not brightly colored to give emphasis to the colors of the hair. I decided the haircut of the model to be in bob cut. I brought most parts of the hair to the left side of the model to accentuate the rainbow of the hair colors. I colored the root and end parts of the hair with purple and highlighted the middle parts of the hair with a beautiful butterfly wing-like pattern, creating an absolutely mesmerizing hairstyle.

Show Stopper

Photo by: Platinum Touch Hair Studio, Hair by: Chantelle McGuire Description and Inspiration: If there is one thing that can stop everyone in the middle of the party, it would be this show stopper! I made this hairstyle as a partyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s show stopper, making everyone stop and stare for a minute of two. I created a concave bob cut to the hairstyle of the hair and colored it with bold ultra bright magenta. I made sure the hair cut is on point without any flaws. In the middle of the darkness, this hair would be the only thing that can be seen with the color of magenta that is so beautiful, unique and fascinatingly stunning!

Ultra Violet

Photo by: Platinum Touch Hair Studio, Hair by: Chantelle McGuire Description and Inspiration: My reference for making this masterpiece is the phenomenal ultra violet. I emphasized the combination of the illuminating hair colors of violet and silver with the long, straight cut of the hair. It is mostly colored with violet, but the silver color shows when it is reflected with light. The addition of silver color creates a more glistening effect to the overall look of the hair. The hair looks stunning as it is, but it can look an extra mile more adorable with various hairstyles like braids.

Red Rose

Photo by: Platinum Touch Hair Studio, Hair by: Chantelle McGuire Description and Inspiration: From a plain blonde hair comes a beautiful transformation of a vibrant, luscious rose-colored hair. I made this hairstyle to be as beautiful as a red rose. It brings a different kind of a romantic vibe. The hair transformation in this project is revealed in a straightforward before-and-after image. The original color of the hair is blonde and the texture of the hair is thick and dry. I gave the hair a charming ombrĂŠ vibe. I colored the top part to the mid-shafts with dark red color and the tips from with gold melt. Combined, this hairstyle gives a delight to the sight.

Silver Steel

Photo by: Platinum Touch Hair Studio, Hair by: Chantelle McGuire Description and Inspiration: Designed with an undercut, the model’s hair displays a long hair top and clean cut below. To achieve a “silver steel” effect, I combined the colors of metallic silver and dusty pink halo. The result, as you can see, is very alluring. The primary color of silver and the complementary color of pink create a realistic silver steel effect.

Description and Inspiration: My inspiration for this hairstyle is the bold, brave animalistic spirit. To achieve such concept, I used strikingly dramatic colors of black, grey platinum blonde, violet and light lilac. These colors are blended in such a way that the hair creates a sensational impression in the image. I designed the haircut to be amorphous, adding excitement to the hairstyle. Created with a modern concept and a sleek design, this hairstyle draws an animalistic spirit, a wild attitude. It shows the beauty as well as the attitude of the animals and reinterprets them modern pixel hairstyle colors.

Together, these dramatic colors create an image full of attitude, the kind of attitude that captures a heart craving for the beauty of the sea. I arranged the colors to be hidden in layers that give a textured appearance and a dramatic look for the model. As a whole, masterpiece creates a sense of denotation of the mutable, ever-changing qualities of the ocean in the most mysteriously beautiful ways.

This hairstyle takes an influence of the contemporary age of today while getting inspiration from the ecology. I made this hairstyle draw much attention in its unique, eye-catching pixel hair color design. The extraordinary design of pixel hair color reveals the powerful combination of black, grey platinum blonde, violet, and light violet. These edgy-looking but soft pixels are interpreted as the animal prints. The pixel design overlies a vibrant texture of rich purple color.

Sea water constantly changes and this scientific fact became my inspiration for this masterpiece. From the constantly-changing quality of light in sea water, I designed the hairstyle with the hair color themes of turquoise, royal blue, and ash blonde. The amorphous shape of the hair symbolizes the unpredictable movement of the waters swimming in the ocean. The makeup tells the same story as well. The domination of the colors of gray and blue out of all the other hues of colors in the entire look is simply mesmerizing.

It is styled in one side, creating sensational long bangs. The bangs come in straight strands of hair, but it is styled with a twist of soft spikes to better represent the culture of Avatar.

Description and Inspiration: I was inspired by the modern interpretation of the Goth-rock attitude and so I made the concept as my reference to create the hairstyle. I used an asymmetrical bob cut hairstyle based on Blobtecture, a movement in architecture that takes an organic form with an amoeba shape. The tips of the hair strands are dipped-dye in a beautiful ice blue hair color. I also added ultra Micro-fringe to the hairstyle to complete the entire Gothic rock style of an attitude.

Color wise, the scheme of the hairstyle includes blue, purple, and ash gray, altogether, adding a mysterious vibe. The structure of the hairstyle is a mystery, as well, with the contrasting features of shiny and frizzy hair to match with my mystery feeling of dark moon. The short and long fringe is a delight to the sight.

I designed the hairstyle with an ample of different styles. I made a blend of straight, curls, and beautiful waves of hair flowing down to the shoulders. From the top down below, the color scheme of the hairstyle presents a sophisticated ombrĂŠ effect. At the base of the hair is a dark shade to a lighter shade of hues towards the tips.

The bright neon color imitates the bright, unknown hues that linger in the dark space, representing the black hole with some lingering dust of neon hues.

The shave patterns of the undercut also display an attractive, fascinating contrast effect.

The hair is in black color and in bob cut with an asymmetrical edge.

Dennis was born and raised in Belgium. His passion for hair styling startedÂ as early as during his childhood when his father used to create his own landscape garden. To Dennis, hard work and creativity come hand in hand in this industry. His flair for hair styling further increased when he watched his first Vidal Sassoon hair show. He was taken aback by the most intricate designs during the show. He relocated to London and further pursuing his career in this industry by joining the Vidal Sassoon Academy. Over the years, upon completing his education, he started to train young stylist and became a full time educator in the Academy. It was not long when another training academy, Mazella & Palmer spotted him and his passion. Dennis joined them and this widened his horizons. He started to travel around to world to give lecture and give talks at various seminars. Emiliano is an established hairdresser based in Australia. He has been in the hair industry for almost over 30 years. Frank’s family has been in the hair industry for more than 40 years. The family has a chain of salons in Asia (China, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan). During his education at the Sassoon Academy in London, Frank learnt to appreciate the art of hair styling and how the industry has evolved over the years. He feels it is important to recognize the industry and is a strong believer in education. This got him to start his own magazine and share more about the industry as well as give credit to the hairstylists in the world. His dream is to be an influencer. Ken is an award-winning celebrity hairstylist. As a salon director at Evolve Hair Salon, he has been playing a key role in the areas of innovations within the hair styling industry. Recently, Ken was featured in local TV shows “My Fair Lady” and “Lady First Singapore”. Ken is now Goldwell International Artist. Lee Nien Tsz is a well-known make-up artist for Taiwanese celebrities and founder of Nien Tsz Lee Professional Airbrush Makeup 念慈李專業噴槍彩妝 (慈 Tsz Airbrush Makeup). Her work has been published in magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Bazaar, and Vogue. Showcasing her expertise, Lee has appeared in various newspapers and television shows teaching her makeup techniques. She is an avid believer of airbrush make up techniques. She launched her own airbrush book with almost 300 airbrush in 2014. The book includes a very detailed instructional DVD that is in both Chinese and English. Known as one of Asia’s most renown airbrush instructors, Lee has taught thousands of students over the years including some of the top celebrity makeup artists in Asia. She also produced her own collection of makeup products that used the airbrush techniques. Her collections are unique as she has a range for silicon, silicon ultra, water and alcohol based products. He was recently involved in the NOISE Taipei 2016, an event that showcased new approaches to hairdressing. His inspiration comes from the Japanese Manga characters.
