MINTURN COLORADO COMMUNITY GUIDE

ABOUT MINTURN Being a small town in a heavy resorted area like Eagle county could mean living in the shadows of its neighbors, but Minturn has carved out its own distinct identity. The town is one of the oldest in the area, being incorporated in 1904. It was originally a railroad town that ended up attracting passersby from all over the nation — and world — to eventually live here. To this day, the town re ects the unique and eclectic feel that comes from bringing together people from diverse locations. Something to keep in mind is that there are more permanent residents per square mile than any other part of the county. While other areas more than double their population in the summer months, Minturn’s stability gives it a real small-town feel. But more than that, the homes are often quite colorful (literally) and they take pride in some of the quirky architecture you’ll see driving down their streets. The best way to describe the typical house would be split-level mountain cabin, but homes tend to have a distinct look. In addition, the homes tend to be on the larger side, with 6+ bedroom homes not being a rarity. As Minturn has a very strong community feel, most of the dining and entertainment options are family-oriented. The Minturn Saloon is the longest-running restaurant in the entire Vail Valley, being in business since 1901 and earning nationwide praise, even from publications such as the NY Times. For those looking to enjoy all of the natural beauty of the area without having to be close to the resort, Minturn has a number of options. Looking to bring friends? The Eagle River Inn is happy to accommodate large groups as they only rent the entire inn, not individual rooms — just another example of how things are done a little di erent in Minturn!
