ECC’s Community Education Department coordinates a variety of summer programs. With over 30 years of summer program experience, we are proud of the exceptional quality and variety of our programs which include everything from photography to wizardry, robotics to archery, and many other interesting topics. We are committed to offering our campers an enjoyable and enriching experience with programs designed to stimulate curiosity and creativity, develop talents, and encourage exploration and personal growth. Along with some old favorites, we are excited to offer several new programs this summer. All camps will be held at East Central’s main campus in Union. No one knows your child better than you. Young Actors Camp
Calling kids ages 8-12 to East Central College for a fun filled art activity week. The week’s agenda includes creating paper mache masks and painted paper mosaics. Cost: $75 CE0600-ARTU3 HH 252 Monday – Thursday June 20 – 23 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
This camp is appropriate for performers and those who want to explore theater arts as a new experience. Campers will learn improvisation, dancing, building a stage backdrop, and how to apply makeup. Students will display their talents with a performance at the end of camp. For ages 10-13. Cost: $100 CE0600-OTHU5 HH 105 Monday & Wednesday June 13 – 29 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Camp Video: Scratching Out a Program Would you like to learn how to code and program your very own interactive stories, games, and animations? During this camp participants will learn the basics to coding and programming which will allow them to begin to create interactive stories, games, and animations. Participants will be able to work at their own pace or collaboratively in a group in order to succeed at Scratching Out a Program. For ages 9 and older. Fundamentals of Photography Build your technical and creative skills in this fun, hands-on class. Learn how to use the camera in manual mode to create great creative images. Weather permitting, we will spend time outside applying what we have learned. Students should bring to class a DSLR camera capable of manual settings with the camera manual, and pen and paper! Babysitter Training
Receive your acceptance to 2016 Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry camp. Come explore the subjects that Harry Potter studied at Hogwarts. Join us as we visit the amazing world of Harry, Ron, Hermione, and of course the infamous You Know Who! Learn proper wand techniques, how to mix potions, and properly play the game of Quidditch. For ages 7 and older. Cost: $100 CE0600-HLU9 ECTC 114 Monday – Thursday July 25 – 28 Noon – 3 p.m.
The American Red Cross has revised its popular Babysitter’s Training and has classes available for young adults looking for ways to earn extra money. This class is great for developing leadership skills, and students gain the confidence to make smart decisions while babysitting. The American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training provides young adults who plan to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care to infants and children under their watch. The course is fun and fast-paced with hands-on activities, an exciting video, role-plays, and lively discussions. Participants will receive a take home handbook and a certificate for completing the course. Participants should bring a sack lunch. For ages 11-14. Missouri Hunter Education Skills Session The Missouri Hunter Education Skills Session is the second half of the hunter education certification process after completing one of the knowledge based options. All attendees must bring one of the following or will be turned away from the session (skills information can be found on the MDC website): •S kills Session Qualifier Certificate from the online course; or • Student manual with all chapter review questions answered; or • Proof of completion of a Hunter Education Classroom Session

On The Road!
Tell Me A Tale
This class is inspired by children’s love of family adventures and the lifelong memories they build. It recreates the cozy delight of family travels: singing rounds in the car, making up songs, harmonizing (or trying to), playing “I Spy.” Every lesson is packed with activities that reflect the excitement and energy of family travels. Picture Yourself As A Nurse
Students will have an awesome time building robots that can navigate obstacle courses and respond to a multitude of sensors, including motion, touch, and sound. Our students work with the LEGO® Mindstorms base kit to master the programming of basic movements, and then progress to more difficult challenges. Our goal is to make science, technology, engineering and mathematics fun. Campers must be at least 9 years old to attend this introductory camp. This summer is the time to explore the field of nursing and our nursing camp is a great way to get started! Learn the qualities of a nurse, basic nursing skills, first aid, CPR training, and much more! Learn these skills from professional registered nurses. For ages 8 - 16. Journalism and Mass Media Camp This camp will explore the fundamentals of journalism and mass media and how elements of storytelling (interviewing, writing, photography, multimedia) work together to create the news. Throughout the week, campers will work on writing stories, taking photographs, and creating an online news source. Activities about media literacy – the ability to critically consume media messages – will also be featured throughout the week. Parents will have to sign an online usage agreement for their camper. Ready, Set, Workout
A lifetime sport is any recreational activity that can be practiced throughout a person’s life. One of the best lifetime sports for anyone, regardless of age, gender, or physical stature is archery. Since archery is so widely accessible, it attracts people from all walks of life, making it an incredibly social way to get exercise. Learning to shoot a bow and arrow properly is important for success and can be accomplished by anyone. Please don’t bring your own equipment. The Missouri Dept. of Conservation is providing everything needed for the camp, including free instruction. Please call 636-584-6528 if you have any questions regarding these costs. What is Pickleball? Pickleball was created with one thing in mind: fun! Whether you’re 5 or 85 you can play this game. It combines tennis, badminton, and ping pong. SUMMER CAMPS There lived a beautiful princess. But she was destined upon her 18th birtday to be locked in a tower and beset by a horrifying, fire-breathing dragon. It was told to her since she was a baby baby that hat only only her true love could rescue her from that dreadfull tow . Many k ights t d, but all failed; being eaten alive by the draagon day after y, keeping t e hideous beast well-fed while the princesss trapped inside began to wither away bit by bit. As the dragon grew plumper, the princess became almost as a twig. Her bones struck sharplyy through her pale white skin. The sk kin around her face was drawn so tighteely that it looked as though it would snap any seccond. Realistically, as hard d as a fighter she was, she died after a long torttorous year of agaonizing hung ger. But no one would ever know of her demisse beccause no knig ght has still to this day made it past that monssterous dragon!

This program offers hands-on experiential learning activities and discussions to connect students with the fundamental components of leadership. The program is a 5-day, 30 hour camp that cultivates future leaders by engaging participants in core leadership constructs, community service, interpersonal communication, and team building activities.
