The human body is made of cells from where the body functions are generated. These are often injurious to the body. In addition, the two molecules have been seen to be useful in aiding metabolism. Certain components or enzymes play a part in metabolism of glucose. The enzymes such as peroxidases would need to be oxidized by these micronutrients. The liver is the greatest beneficiary of well functioning peroxidase. This organ plays an important role in breaking down of toxic substances in the human body. This happens by oxidizing these molecules through the enzyme peroxidase. There is therefore is need to oxidize the enzyme by another molecule that will take up the extra hydrogen. The enzymes in the liver that benefit from the oxidation is the hepatitis superoxide dismutase, catalases and glutathione peroxidases. The fact that the two chemicals share similar structures means that the two can re-oxidize each other. This is how they are able to augment each other. This indicates that there would be a benefit in taking red wine and other fruit berries that are rich in vitamin C. Both the molecules have almost similar structures and they do not compete in absorption. These improves the complementary roles.
