What is a Flowering Tea? Flowering teas are tea leaves that have been sewn together into buds which open when the bud is brewed. Different designs are available that include dried flower leaves sewn into the center or trailing from the center bud. Tea flavors are available including white, green and black leaves sewn together with flowers such as jasmine, lily, hibiscus, chrysanthemum, marigold, lavender, Amaranth, roses and peonies. Brewing Flower Teas Choose a glass teapot or pitcher for best enjoyment of these beautiful and flavorful tisanes. Place the tea blossom bud into an empty pitcher and gently pour the boiling water over the bud. Allow the brew to steep for two to three minutes. The bud will open and the flower will begin to unfurl into the fully open flower. More expensive blossom buds will create scenes of flowers. When the blossom is fully open, the tea is ready to enjoy. Pour the brew immediately when ready and add more boiling water to the open flower. The blossom can be used to brew several pots of tea, but with some blends each additional pot will be more bitter. Enjoy as many pots as are tasty for you, or just admire the blossom while you enjoy your first cup. Where to Purchasing Flowering Tea Flowering blossoms are available from specialty tea companies and by ordering online. Currently, it is rare to find flowering teas in restaurants. As these beautiful brews become more popular and more people appreciate their beauty and taste, they will become more available.
