Head lice do not choose the kind of skin that they thrive on. Whether your head or hair is clean, it doesn't matter. They love the warmth of your skin and the supply of your blood. It thrives on your scalp because it can get blood and not because it is clean or dirty. An infestation can be very annoying since it is very hard for you to prevent from being infested. Here are some possible ways of getting infected that will help you remember where and why you got some. First of all, borrowing of certain personal belongings from other people can lead to a very high risk of being infested. These personal items include towels and beddings. The insects may have been attached to the threads of the towel and the fabrics of the beddings. By the time that you use these insect infested items, your clean head might be in danger from an invasion. Another personal thing that people should take care in borrowing to prevent an infestation is the comb especially the brush type. The insects and their eggs called nits might be present and eventually transferred into your head on brushes. But how can you really know that you are dealing with an infestation? The very primary evidence is the live insects that are crawling on your head and the tiny nits that are firmly attached to your hair strands. These insects are little elongated parasites that come in opaque or brownish color and become black when completely fed with human blood. Nits are insect eggs that are sometimes grey and white. You can detect suspected parasites through wet or dry combing and manual checking. Wet or dry combing uses a fine toothed comb. Combing drags off the live lice and nits from you hair and scalp. There are now available electronic anti-lice combs which effectively detect live lice and nits that are not yet hatched. Manual checking also comes in as one of the most effective detection methods. Regular checking of the head and scalp will let you know if you really are infested with these parasitic blood-suckers. Having those disgusting parasites causes you to have that annoying itchiness on your head. Itchiness on the head is also one proof of an infestation. Since of the insects constantly suck into your scalp in order to get enough blood for its food, you can feel the itchiness most of the time. This itchiness can lead to having red sores and skin infections because of the excessive scratching they cause, but the insects in general do not spread disease or infection. Red bumps are also indicative of an infestation. These red bumps are caused by the bites that are mainly found on the scalp, nape and at the back of the ear where the insects usually situate themselves. When you are infested with these parasites, you do not have to panic. There are several treatments that are available all throughout the supermarkets and drugstores and suggested natural smothering agents over the internet. But before considering the available treatments, you
should always be sure that you are really infested in order to prevent unnecessary sacrifices from a misdiagnosis.
