Spiders may seem like an annoying pest to most, but they are actually quite beneficial, feeding on insects during the summer and fall months. However, if you have a lot of spiders in your home, although they may be helpful in catching any other insects that have invaded your home, having a multitude of spiders in your own space is less than ideal. The common house spider is the usual culprit in Colorado, a small spider that is brown and usually measures less than one inch. They are not considered a dangerous spider, but will spin their webs all over your home, leaving wispy webs that accumulate dust in the corners of windows, door frames and in other places that aren't often touched. There are several things you can do to avoid spider infestations in your home, although no preventative measures are foolproof, and sometimes it becomes necessary to contact a pest control professional to take care of a spider infestation. Preventative measures: 1.First, keep the humidity level of your home down. Spiders tend to be attracted to areas with high humidity levels. Use a dehumidifier to make sure the humidity level of your home stays low during the summer months. 2.Keep other insects out so that spiders have nothing to feed on. This can be as easy as simply making sure that all doors and windows have screens that are free from holes and tears and are sealed tight. 3.The use of sodium vapor lighting outdoors can help deter insects, which in turn will deter spiders. 4.Take care to make the outside of your home less attractive to spiders and other insects. Remove wood piles and excessive rocks, old wooden boards, compost piles and any other sheltering sites from around your home. 5.Caulk the crevices and cracks around the foundation of your home. 6.If your home has a crawl space or a basement, keep it clear of debris to try to limit hiding places for spiders and other insects. If you do find that these common household pests have infested your home despite following through with these preventative measures, there are a few things you can do on your own to get rid of minor infestations. There are several different chemicals available to homeowners to get rid of spiders, but if they are used incorrectly, they can be harmful to you, your family and even your pets.

If you have a very minor problem, chemicals may be the answer, but only when they are used exactly as listed on the package. If you have spiders on the outside of your house, or crawling around your deck, you can use a water hose with a powerful stream to blast them away. This may only get rid of the spiders you can see, and there may be many more in hiding that will come out later on. If these methods do not work for you, or your problem is more severe, the best way to get rid of an infestation is to contact a pest control professional. They have the tools to fully control a spider infestation, and they have ways to help keep them from returning.

If you have a spider infestation in your home, contacting a pest control company who offers pest control in your area is the best way to keep your home and property pest free.
