You have just found bed bugs in your apartment or house. Are you living with AGONY?! Don't become a bug buffet! What should you do? Will you call a bed bug exterminator or just move out? First, it's good to make some research about bed bugs and gain knowledge about their habits and nature. Prior to World War II, bed bugs infestations were common. Since the development of synthetic organic insecticides such as DDT and chlordane, infestations in buildings were likely to be rare. In fact, in the United States, all infestations have been exceedingly rare in the past fifty years. However bed bugs fell out of the public consciousness due to their rarity. This lack of awareness combined with changes in pest control practices and an increase of international travel have resulted in a sharp rise in infestations. Now infestation is starting to become quite the problem -especially in places that see a lot of people coming and going. After gaining knowledge about these pests, you can finally decide what to do. You can move out, but you will likely just bring the bugs with your luggage, clothes or belongings to a new place and cause one more infestation. Running away from the problem will not solve it. You will have to make your stand and face the issue head on. It's better to start a battle with the them. Since bed bugs are so tough to get rid of, their extermination depends on attacking them diligently. Extermination will always be a very difficult task especially discovering their hiding places. One of the best ways in which get rid of them is to not do it yourself. Why? Consider this: if even just a couple insects survive they will reinfest your home! They can get into the smallest of cracks, and the trickiest of places. Missing a small cluster of eggs (which are not easy to spot with the naked eye) will prevent any chance of control. This is why you will see such strong recommendations to hire a pest professional. Sure, for any other pest, home owners may tackle the problem with success. But when bed bug control is attempted by a non professional, the chances are it simply won't work. Professional pest controllers are much more knowledgeable than you in what task is at hand and have at their disposal, more efficient weapons against pests. Even if you get the pest control guy in the next day, it can take a long time to finally get rid of the infestation, and you don't want to be bitten in the meantime. So here is what you should do:

Carefully remove, bag and wash all of your bedding. If you can wash your pillows, do that too. Use

the highest temperature settings. You should do this regularly. Slowly and thoroughly vacuum the mattress, box spring and bed frame. Be sure you get into all the seams, cracks and crevices. Empty your vacuum immediately into an airtight back and put it in a dumpster or outside trash. Get mattress and box spring encasements. These will lock any bed bugs that are in your mattress or box spring. These are two important places bugs hide. Pull your bed away from the wall and make sure the bedding doesn't touch the walls, floor or bedside furniture. This way bugs can only reach the bed from the floor. You can make a little barrier all the way around the perimeter of your bed using some doublesided tape. Fortunately, bed bugs don't have functional wings and cannot fly. So essentially you are creating a bed bug trap -- if they try to crawl to bed, they'll get stuck.

Now that you've isolated your bed and cleaned everything, you should be fairly safe against bug bites. However, this won't eliminate the bed bugs. You have to have an exterminator to do that. But whatever you do, don't panic. Don't go sleep in another room or at someone else's house (you'll spread them) - basically, don't do anything else until you've consulted with an exterminator. If you have a bed bug infestation, patience and some hard work is all you need to get your life back to normal.

Do your homework and it will save you a lot of time, money and frustration. Learn more about choosing a Bed Bugs Exterminator. And when you're ready, find pre-screened local Bed Bugs Exterminators for free.
