Architects, builders and wood workers need to make note of the dates October 2-3, 2014 at the BEC. The 5th International Forum on Architecture and Construction in Wood is set to bring together renowned architects and engineers from all over the world to share their views and their experience in the rational, sustainable use of wood for construction. In the wake of the success of earlier editions, EGURTEK seeks to continue publicising the qualities of wood as a construction material and encouraging specialists to use it. With that in mind, the main objectives of the event are: - To promote the use of wood in the construction sector. - To support and improve the position of 2nd stage wood processing companies. - To help and promote sustainable construction. - To introduce new concepts and types of construction to architects and engineers. - To train future specialists in construction in wood. To that end, presentations, talks and technical seminars will be arranged so that visitors can obtain first-hand knowledge of cutting-edge techniques for using wood.

EGURTEK 2012

A WELL CONSOLIDATED EVENT The 4th International Forum on Architecture and Construction in Wood, which took place on October 3-5, 2012, brought together 1,043 delegates: 63% more than the previous edition. This shows that the event has reinforced and consolidated its position, and that its importance continues to grow with each new edition. The Symposium was attended by architects, engineers, construction technicians, wood-working specialists, municipal councils and public institutions, universities and research centres. They all shared their experiences and presented new techniques and uses for wood.

INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED SPEAKERS Apart from its attractiveness as a forum for doing business, Egurtek is characterised by the standard of its speakers. From its outset the forum has enlisted major speakers with great international prestige.

DIGITAL HANDBOOK OF STRUCTURAL WOOD All delegates at the event received a copy of the Digital Handbook of Structural Wood, a highly useful IT tool for helping in the calculation and checking of structural elements made of wood. This handbook was prepared by the Construction Engineering Knowledge Area of the University of the Basque Country with the sponsorship of the Basque Government Department of the Environment, Territorial Planning, Agriculture and Fisheries.

EGURTEK AWARDS 2012 Once again the wood-working industry and COAVN (Official Association of Architects of the Basque Country and Navarre), with the sponsorship of Arquia and Cluster Habic, handed out Egurtek Awards in the following categories: - The “Architecture in Wood” Category: Outstanding use of wood: - Building construction: “UNED Seminary in Bergara”, by Iñaki Aspiazu. Urban amenities: “A tour of the landscape of Elciego” by Iñaki Aspiazu.

- The “Basque Quality” Category: Outstanding use of Pinus Radiata and other specialist woods of the Basque Country. - Building construction: “Building extension for the Laskorain school in Tolosa”, by Juan José Gurrutxaga Chacón, María Gurrutxaga Insausti and Ander Auzmendi Perez de Lazarraga. - Urban amenities: “A tour of the landscape of Elciego” by Iñaki Aspiazu.

- The “Youth and Design" Category: Outstanding use of Pinus Radiata and other specialist woods of the Basque Country, for contestants aged under 30. - “BoxSeat”, by Amaia Mateos Valiente.
