BILBAO
O
WHY IN BILBAO? Steel production is in the DNA of this region which, due to tradition and experience, is home to 50% of the steel mills located on the Cantabrian coast, the main driving forces in the value chain of the steel sector. All of this forms part of a strong processing industry which extends throughout the Basque Country, as an important part of its economic fabric. Furthermore, its manufacture and production diversity -mainly stainless steel, special steels and long products- are highly valued on the international market. In the Basque Autonomous Community there are approximately one hundred companies representing the entire value chain of the sector, and 11 steel production plants. Thus, the Basque Country is placed twelfth in the European ranking, with a production capacity of 39% of the Spanish total. Insofar as demand for steel products is concerned, the BAC has a large industrial network of companies belonging to strategic sectors such as the automotive, energy, naval, railway, machine tool, petrochemical, capital goods, construction and household appliance sectors, among others.
