Supervisory Research Teams Supervisory research teams work with students to identify goals and monitor progress. Lincoln University’s relatively small size means that students benefit from more frequent contact with their supervisors, co-supervisors, associates and where appropriate, off-campus scientists and industry practitioners.
Research Organisations The campus is at the centre of a cluster of Government research organisations such as Plant and Food Research, Landcare Research, AgResearch, and the Foundation for Arable Research. Lincoln University has close professional and scientific ties with research bodies throughout New Zealand and the world.
Postgraduate Services and Facilities • The Teaching and Learning team provides many services and workshops such as preparing a thesis, designing experiments and surveys, writing a research proposal, and tutoring skills. • The library provides a range of services and resources particularly useful to postgraduate students. These include an in-house research support meeting for postgraduate students, research database support, an inter-loan service and the availability of more than 16,000 journals through e-access. • All postgraduate students have the opportunity to attend the annual postgraduate conference which is run jointly by students and staff. It aims to improve learning and research habits, and challenge postgraduates to think creatively. • There is a Postgraduate Officer on the Lincoln University Students’ Association (LUSA) who facilitates communication between postgraduate students, the University and LUSA.

Funding
Postgraduate English Requirements
External organisations, such as Crown Research Institutes and Government operational agencies, often offer funding assistance for thesis research. Lincoln University is very supportive of its research students and allocates $2,000 per year (up to three years for PhDs and one year for Masters) for those in their thesis research year(s). This allocation is then managed according to specific student needs and is subject to an approved research proposal. Accommodation Lincoln University offers a range of accommodation options, on campus, in the township of Lincoln and in Christchurch. If you want to live on campus, you can choose from: Catered Halls This includes three meals a day and accommodation Semi-Catered Halls This includes your evening meal and accommodation Self-Catered Flats Accommodation only. There are flats equipped for four single students and some that are suitable for families Off-Campus Accommodation The Accommodation Office on-campus can offer assistance for students wanting to go flatting or into a homestay situation. The list of accommodation options is continually updated.

The usual requirement is a bachelor’s degree with appropriate background in the subject area with a B grade average (70-74%). The minimum for a Master’s degree by thesis only is a bachelor degree with first or high second class honours or its equivalent.

Six courses at 600-level except B+ average in their 300 level courses (75-79%). the BAgrSc with Honours. All Honours degrees include a research dissertation.

Blessy Pathrose PhD candidate The advice of friends and information from the internet played a big part in pointing Blessy Pathrose in the direction of Lincoln University. “Once there I found it very welcoming and supportive. Coming to Lincoln University was a good decision and today I am very pleased to be part of the University’s large Plant Pathology Group.” Blessy, an international postgraduate student from India, is studying for a PhD in biotechnology, specialising in molecular microbiology. “Through my research project I am pleased to be able to use current cutting edge biotechnology to address a problem and produce a clear benefit to New Zealand’s agricultural industries.
