In 1996, I joined my husband, William Rodon Hornof in his architectural practice – 2RZ Architecture. We developed our business on the principles that if you provide excellent design and stellar customer service, your business will be successful. The foundation of 2RZ Architecture is Residential Design and I brought the focus of Kitchen Design to the practice.
In 2003, we moved to our current location and in 2006, we opened Vesta as true a Kitchen Design Studio. We have always believed that planning a new kitchen is the opportunity to redefine the character of one’s home. In opening the studio, it allowed us to channel our kitchen design abilities into one highly specialized arena and to bring together cabinetry, fixtures and finishes to design living spaces rich in both style and comfort in a way that most homeowners could never begin to dream of.

Our client purchased two units in a high-rise and asked us to combine the spaces so that there would be emphasis on the amazing views but creating functional spaces. In tearing down as many of the walls as possible and exposing the windows from all vantage points, we were able to take advantage of the open floor plan yet define the areas. The client gave us the reigns so that we could drive the design process in a creative, cool and hip manner. The client was thrilled with the end result and the space is nothing short of magnificent.

Timeless Beauty
MARBLE Although marble was once only a material for the wealthy, it is now an affordable option for anyone’s home or business. Marble adds richness and prestige to a structure like no other stone. Today marble can be seen in kitchens, countertops, bathrooms, backsplashes, showers, floors, foyers, fireplaces, walls and furniture. The English word “marble” is rooted in ancient Greek words meaning, “shining stone” or “to sparkle” or “to gleam.” Marble has been used since ancient times to build some of the world’s most magnificent structures. A symbol of grandeur, marble was the medium of choice for ancient Greek and Roman architects and sculptors. The Parthenon was built with marble 2,500 years ago as a tribute to the goddess Athena. The Venus de Milo, created between 100 and 130 B.C., was sculpted from marble. India’s most majestic Taj Mahal, built in the 17th century was also made from marble. All these structures still stand today, which is a th
testament to the durability of this beautiful stone. Marbles Makeup Limestone—calcium carbonate that has, over a great period of time, undergone metamorphism, or the recrystallization of already-solid rock, amid the heat and pressure of the earth’s crust. Marble comes in many forms. At its purest, marble is white. It’s the impurities that occur naturally in marble, however, that provide marble’s unique characteristics, such as countless colors and random patterns.

{ GOURMET COOKING } Basia Frossard ~ Chicago’s very own home + fashion designer, shares her famous classic, homemade pumpkin soup recipe with us. Basia starts preparing this beautiful soup once the Fall/Autumn season sets in. This soup is so good; it will warm just about anybody’s soul. Accompanied with freshly baked Italian bread, a good Cote Du Rhone wine around a crackling Fireplace with loved ones and this comforting dish will make any holiday gathering an unforgettable one.
Pumpkin Soup Ingredients 1 Whole Acorn Squash & 1 Small Butternut pumpkin HOMEMADE STOCK 1 Onion, Parsnip, Bunch of Celery Sticks 1 Granny Smith Apple and Banana Cumin, Rosemary, Curry, Chilli, Nutmeg, Salt & Pepper Goat or Feta Cheese & fresh scallions, to serve
~ Cut Acorn squash and butternut pumpkin in half, drizzle with olive oil and roast for 40 minutes on 370 degrees. ~ Prepare the homemade stock with 6 cups of water, 1 chopped onion, 1 Parsnip and a bunch of celery sticks. Boil and then simmer while the pumpkin and squash are in the oven. Chop up the granny smith apple (peel skin) and add that as well. ~ Take pumpkin and squash out of oven, let cool a little, then scoop outside (remove seeds) and add it into the homemade stock. Add the chopped banana in as well. ~ Season to taste with Rosemary, Cumin, Nutmeg, Curry, Chilli, Nutmeg, Salt and Pepper. ~ Allow the soup to cool, then blitz with a blender/immersion blender till completely smooth. Bring the mixture back to a simmer and cook till the mixture thickens up slightly. ~ Plate up while hot, and serve with some crumbled feta or goat cheese, some freshly snipped scallions, and with some hot crusty Italian bread on the side.
