Latest Match reports: 02.05.13 Rossendale v Pennine A very tricky game against the best Rossendale had available started very brightly and a few half chances came our way. As the half wore on we found it difficult to cope with the excellent passing of our opposition and went one nil down, We kept plugging away and deservedly equalised with a good shot from Olly G down to the keepers’ bottom right corner. In the second half we lost a bit of shape and our play was a little desperate, resulting in two more goals for Rossendale. A game where we again never really played much football, but some good effort was put in by all the team. Still only our second defeat of the season …..
Previous match reports: 25.04.13 Bridge v Pennine Today was derby day and a game we always like to win. We started ok but soon realised we were in for a game with the tactics used by our opposition……which involved kicking the ball as far as possible at every opportunity. The game was a difficult to enjoy and we never seemed to a grip on it at any point. I think we just put it down to a bad day at the office and move on.
06.04.13 Roach v Pennine This week’s game, on paper, was a game we could have thought about winning comfortably. At the start of the game it was evident that the conditions would prove very tricky as the pitch was very firm and bobbly with the ball bouncing very high. This made the game a bit of a lottery making league positions irrelevant. We started ok, working hard, but due to the pitch playing good football was almost impossible. As the half wore on we settled a little and put Roach under pressure which resulted in a corner, from which Jude controlled the ball outside the box and rifled the ball Page | 4
into the bottom corner with a great shot. This gave us more confidence and we pushed on creating more chances and were now dominating the half with the opposition never looking likely to score. With five minutes to go Olly G cut in from the left evading two players to lash a low drive into the bottom corner. Half time 2-0. For the second half I asked the team to push on and get on top of our opponents but this didn’t really happen as Roach made it very difficult for us. We had good chances to add a third but a couple of good saves and unlucky finishing denied us the goal to kill off the game. Right on the final whistle Roach scored a freaky goal from a corner. Game over 2-1. All in all a win is a win and the best team won , but we need to be more aware and work a lot harder when we don’t have the ball as we have tougher games than that coming up. Everyone contributed to the win and this is why we are difficult to beat. Well done and let’s keep the pressure on them below us, as they have no choice but to keep winning just to keep up.
10.03.13 Pennine v Roach dynamos Today’s game against Roach could have been a potential banana skin as we try to stay top of the league. We needed to stay focused and do our job, which I believed would be good enough to overcome Roach. The game started and we found it difficult to get into any sort of rhythm, but settled down after around 15mins. Our first goal came from Olly G who cut inside two defenders to bury one in the top corner. This relaxed us more and we finished the half stronger. Half time 1-0 We played much better in the second half with wave after wave of attack and soon got our second again from Olly G who finished off a loose ball in the area. Now we were playing with lots more confidence and our third duly followed from a neat finish from Dion. If we try more to play football and relax in possession , mixed in with the effort we always put in we become a very difficult team to beat.

All we can do is keep putting 3 points on the board and let the rest worry about trying to catch us. Well done today to every player as it takes all of us to contribute if we are going to be successful
16.02.13 Walshaw v Pennine Blacks This week we travelled to Walshaw sports for a very tricky game against one of the form sides in the league. The pressure was on us to put in another good performance and keep the pressure on for the chasing pack at the top of the league, and boy did we step up to the mark. We started well with some excellent football which resulted in an early corner swung in by Olly g on to the head of Shay who buried it in the top corner. Having taken the lead we didn’t sit back we just kept on top of them with constant waves of attacks and soon our second came from Olly G who’s persistence paid off with a well taken goal from a tight angle. Again we kept going and going and a third duly followed again by the on fire Olly G. Half time 3-0 The second half was a much tighter affair as we were now playing uphill and 10 mins into the second half Walshaw got a corner which resulted in a sloppy goal given them by us being a asleep. This didn’t set us back as we got a grip of the game again and a neat turn and run again by Olly G gave us our fourth goal. We now had the game sorted and a nice move and pass sent Dion down the right and from a tight angle he finished coolly. Near the end Walshaw grabbed a late consolation but it was really game over. I thought the back four of Chris, Thomas, Connor and Jude were as tight as a drum and deserving of their label as the tightest defence in the league. Our midfield of Max, Ben, Shay and Dion ran and tackled their socks off and never gave a good Walshaw side an inch. And finally our m.o.m Olly g in attack gave them a torrid time and they just couldn’t handle him. Excellent boys….let’s keep the momentum with us.

09.02.13 E/W Alleycats v Pennine After a few iffy performances we needed to bounce back and make it difficult for the chasing pack to catch us at the top of the league. I asked the boys to step up to the mark and improve the football they were playing. We started great and dominated the whole first half, but were unbelievably One nil down at half time. During half time they were told what was needed and they duly responded with a spirited fightback full of guts, determination and great football. 3 goals in the last 20 mins from Max, Olly and Shay gave us the victory we deserved. Every single player contributed today. A man of the match performance from our captain Max….Well done boys
02.02.13 Pennine Black v E/W tigers A tough cup game against a very well drilled opposition. The game proved to be our worst of the season with us creating no chances at all and producing very little football. The result was a fair one, but still only our first defeat of the season. Let’s forget it and move on.
12.01.13 Pennine Blacks v Chaddy Park Griffins We thought this would be a tricky game despite Chaddy Parks league position. It proved to be a very tough game with few chances at either end, with both teams struggling to gain an advantage. We didn’t seem to be able to put any decent moves together to enable us to get on top of a very stubborn opposing team. We scored with our first piece of football from a headed goal by Shay Stansfield. Half time 1-0 to Pennine. The second half was much the same and Chaddy Park scored a deserved equaliser again from a header. Game over 1-1. Got to get back to playing football…..play like we do in training
17.11.12 Tigers v Pennine Blacks Having played tigers in the first league game, we knew it was going to be a difficult game. We started very well and had many chances to open the scoring, our effort was good and some of our football again was good.
Page | 7
The tigers defence were holding on and we just could not get through until a neat move ended up with an excellent finish from max. Half time 1-0 The second half never really got going for us and tigers always seemed to be on the front foot, mainly from sloppy play by us. As the game went on we created very little and tigers grew in confidence, and it was no surprise when they scored on the break from our throw in deep in the tigers half???. That really summed up our second half performance Game over 1-1 Boys we are still unbeaten and that in itself is an excellent achievement, but we really have to switch our minds on to playing when we turn up Saturday morning.....too many not at the races today......too many playing as individuals. You have a job to do in the team and if you don’t do it then someone else has to do double the amount. LET’S GET BACK ON IT
03.11.12 Pennine v Elt/wal alleycats After a couple of weeks with no games or training it was no surprise that we were a little rusty. Our opposition turned up very determined and playing a lot better than their league position would have you believe. The first half was a very scrappy affair with neither team able to get on top, and this resulted in very few efforts on goal. We were trying hard but lacked a little composure on the ball. Half time 0-0. The second half started much the same as the first, until a foul by their defender on Ben Hopwood resulted in a penalty which was coolly put away by Olly G. This seemed to give us a little confidence to play a bit more football and we were by now starting to dominate territory. The second soon followed when neat control and a good pass by Ben to Olly G who cut inside to unleash a great shot to the keepers left. By now the whole team had come alive and some good passing was now on show by every team member. At this point they broke through our defence for the first time, but Chris pulled off a fabulous save to keep us comfortable at 2-0. That was the only time they got through as Thomas, Jude and Chris were having solid games at the back, which is no surprise to me as this is now our 4 th clean sheet from 7 games (Excellent). Pressure was now on them to go and get a goal, and as they pushed gaps were appearing at the back which we were now taking advantage of. Goal number 3 came from again simple football by Shay and Dion followed by some neat footwork and a good finish from Max. Game over 3-0 We need to knuckle down now and work hard on our team play and positioning. On the plus side we keep winning which is a good habit to have Still top......good effort as always
21.10.12 Pennine v Bridge DERBY DAY Page | 8
Big match today against our local rivals Bridge, and a game we always want to win. We started well, dominating possession and territory and soon took the lead when a deflected corner went to the back post where Dion got a head on the ball to make it 1-0. It soon became 2-0 when a cross from the right was fumbled by the bridge keeper resulting in Dion nipping in to score with a neat finish. By now we were well in control and a nice piece of play got the ball to Max who controlled the ball well in the box to slot home our third. Half time 3-0 The second half was a bit of a scrappy affair with not much football played. We were always in control but lost our way a little as the game was effectively over and everyone was looking to get on the score sheet. As the half wore on a great run and goal by Olly Bray made it 4-0. Four soon became 5 as again Olly Bray set off on another of his now famous runs to get his second and our fifth. Game over 5-0 and we still remain unbeaten against our rivals. LET’S KEEP GOING....AND STAY TOP OLIVER BRAY Today was the last game for OUR OLLY.........what a player he has been for us. Olly has been with us since the age of six and has been without doubt the most dynamic player in the league for each of the three and half seasons with us. No other team had such a game changer. Teams have always lined up their biggest and quickest players against our Olly which never worked as he was always too quick and too strong and too good. If anyone did manage to get the better of Olly he would do what he usually did and give them a shove....good lad. Olly always gave 100% in every match and played the game with a smile on his face, a real team player He leaves us having scored loads of goals, too many assists to mention, as the 2009/10 most improved player and as our 2010/11 player of the year and also with 74000 raiding runs down the right wing (which we will all miss). On behalf of all the players and parents we wish Simon, Sue, Tom and OUR OLLY the very best of luck with the move. We will miss you pal. PS don’t go all soft just because you are going down south
13.10.12 Chaddy Griffins v Pennine Blacks Could we stay top in a very tricky away game at Chadderton Park Griffins? I said before that we needed to start quick.............and boy did we. Lots of commitment and lovely football soon saw us score through a good finish from Shay Stansfield. This was quickly followed by a neat finish from Olly Grey, 2-0 and cruising. Like all good teams we now went for the kill and 3-0 followed after a good move and goal by Olly Bray who I have to mention scored last week (that ok Olly) . We were relentless as we looked to finish the game and a lovely finish by Dion Parker-Minchin made it 4-0. A s the half came to Page | 9
a close a good shot by Ben Hopwood who was running midfield was well saved by the Chaddy goalkeeper, but like all good goal poachers there was Max Bentley to tap home when the keeper dropped the ball 5-0. On top of this great first have performance going forward our defensive quartet of Connor Marrow, Thomas Walters ,Jude Meadowcroft and goalie Chris Fleming were giving the opposition nothing. What a first half. For the second half i gave the boys the target of winning the half and not cruising as the game was over. In fairness to Chadderton they came at us with all guns blazing as they had nothing to lose and were much tougher opposition for most of the second half. As we went looking for goals we did lose our shape and were a bit exposed at the back, but there was to be no way through for them as our defence and goalie were magnificent all the game. We then nabbed a sixth goal from a through ball from Max Bentley to Shay Stanfield who finished brilliantly. Overall some very good performances from all of the team especially Jude Meadowcroft whose positioning on the pitch was spot on this week. WELL DONE AGAIN......LET’S KEEP THE PRESSURE ON
06.10.12 Walshaw Sports v Pennine Blacks Today the boys were faced with another table top clash against the team currently top of the league. I asked them before the match if they wanted to go top of the league today, and i could see by their response that they were up for it. We started very well and dominated them with many close efforts on goal. We were finally rewarded when a lovely turn on the edge the box by Olly G ended with him opening the scoring for us with a low drive into the bottom corner. As the half went on we did go to sleep a little and they equalised on the stroke of half time. We went in 1-1 which was a little harsh as we had been on top for most of the half. As we lined up to start the second half i wondered what was going on as the players were lined up in the wrong positions, little did i know the boys had a plan that resulted in a goal in the first 5 seconds, great start to the half. Walshaw did look dangerous on occasions when breaking forward but three further goals in the half from Dion x1 Olly g x 2 was exactly what we deserved. The game was played on a very heavy, bobbly pitch, with very long grass and I thought the boys did great. NOTE: CAN WE STAY TOP...........YOUR MANAGER THINKS YOU CAN!
22.09.12 Pennine Blacks v Rossendale FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE BOYS
Page | 10
In a tough top of the table clash against a very capable Rossendale we finally put some football with all the effort and we were rewarded with a performance that made us unstoppable on the day. We ran and chased everything, we passed unbelievably well, tackled anything that moved and all this on top of positional changes for some of our players. Now I could write pages on how the game went but I would rather say how each boy did as they all deserve a mention. Chris.....rock solid and never looked like he was going to let anything passed him. Thomas...top game again this week and never put a foot wrong. Connor.....assured on the ball and great positional play. Jude.....aggressive and tenacious, his best game yet. Ben.....2 positions played (easy) superb all round game. Max.....captain’s performance, played it simple and didn’t lose a tackle. Shay.....tackled and passed it great today and was a constant problem for them. Dion.....tackled, competed, ran and played simple, excellent football. Olly...hat-trick with a limp? You destroyed them today pal. Olly G..... devastating today, rewarded for your efforts with a hat trick, (45 to go?) only joking. Now can we go on from here and keep that level, because if we can we will be very difficult to beat. Man of the Match: Dion Parker-Minchin Managers summary: Again.........WELL DONE TODAY......THAT WAS A TEAM PERFORMANCE
15.09.12 Radcliff v Pennine Black Pennine started slowly giving Radcliffe the initiative, and we were soon one nil down. That seemed to get us going a bit and from the first real bit of passing and football Pennine equalised from a neat shot from the edge of the area by Olly Bray. The game then turned on a poor decision from the ref when Thomas Walters was clearly fouled giving them a clear run on goal to score. Again we came back to be rewarded for our efforts with a goal and good finish from Dion Parker-Minchin. Half Time 2-2 The second half started much the same as the first with nothing to pick between the teams until a weaving run by Radcliffe’s best player resulted in us being 3-2 down. With 12 mins to go we needed to show character to get out of this game with something and again our persistency paid off when Olly Bray went clear to finish in the bottom corner 3-3. In the last 5 mins we pressed and finished the stronger and we unlucky to hit the post twice. Game over Full time 3-3 Man of the match: Thomas Walters Managers Summary: Boys we need to control and pass the ball better to avoid every game turning into a battle, and we need to work harder and listen more in training as the skills Page | 11
and moves we were working on were not evident today or last week. Good point....... real character to come back from being down a goal 3 times.
08.09.12 Pennine Black v Elton and Walshaw tigers. A very tight game between two good teams. After early pressure by the opposition Pennine took the lead on 17 mins through a neat finish by Shay Stansfield. We then began to settle down a little and started to create a few chances. The second half was very similar to the first with both teams trading punches. After 30 mins a nice move resulted in the ball breaking free on the edge of their box and Max Bentley was on it in a flash to rifle the ball into the top corner to give us a 2-0 lead. The game continued to be tight but then Oliver Grey broke down the right and cut inside to finish in the bottom corner. 3-0 game over. Man of the Match: Chris Flemming Managers summary: A really gritty performance by the whole team......well done boys
