Latest Match report: 10.11.12 Whitworth Vs Pennine - Main Cup 2nd Round After Friday's down pour this fixture has been a battle to arrange, re-arrange and change once more... Whitworth's fixture and problems with Whitworths home pitch allocation forces switch of fixture to Mathew Moss late Friday afternoon. To accommodate 3 games at home - the Blacks have no choice but to accept the early 9am kick off. Pitch is wet, in fact soft in places.... Pitch inspection at 8am proves that manager Westerman is out of his pit far too early for a Saturday morning as he struggles to make the deadline ... Confirmed going good to very soft Pennine advise Whitworth that the 2nd round cup fixture is playable ! Selection this week... With "Tippy Toe" Bargh on his 4th vacation this season , Wystawnoha & Westerman have a 10 strong squad to choose as Bargh tops up his tan after missing the transfer window ! Archie Burke's running slightly late and misses the pre-match warm up routine and unfortunately, Archie is not prepared enough to start. Gillard protected by Liam "the head" Thomo Thompson , Ben "the Engine Room" Wilky Wilkinson and Westie ”watcha ya back” Westerman provides a security blanket for any keeper .... With an impressive defensive record after 5 games with only 5 goals against.... Its remarkable !!! As the school Boy referee gathers the teams for 1 minute of remembrance silence, parents, grandparents, managers and coaches reflect on love ones lost and give thanks to our forefathers for perpetual freedom. Its 9am .... Wipe the sleep out your eye .. Its game on and thankfully it’s a English Pennine Blacks speaking English that could have easily been speaking Deutsch are raring to go... Whitworth has the honours to get proceedings underway. A calculated well organised unit and from memory, with one of the best keepers in the league ... I'm sure his expert craft will be challenged with affection this morning. The cold mist starts to dissipate with the rising of the Autumn sun and the pitch temperature quickly rises a degree or two before kick-off. The ball's first strike provides Whitworth possession and Pennine, hunting in spirit and challenging in nature proceed to press Whitworth from the outset. It’s not long till Pennine gain possession - striking the ball widly, Whitworth under pressure feel the space receding and passing play difficult as "Johnson & Johnson" hunt the Whitworth pack down resulting in a Wuzzi Wystawnoha collection, beats one and drives forward with pace .... His support is delayed and Wuzzi has no option to turn out and use Thomas "the Hitman. " Johnson to his right, Whitworth manage to gather numbers behind the ball and the attack is deflected for Whitworth throw. In the centre of the park the conflicts commence - both Whitworth and Pennine battling hard for the ball ... Its 50/50 as the ball ricochet's from one challenge to the other - its a fast paced game and the first half takes no prisoners ... equal as 10 mins pass .... The ball, possibly in Pennine's possession the most but i can honestly state that's a biased opinion..... Whitworth more than holding their own, creative at times with consecutive direct passing play holds Pennine on their back foot forcing Westie, Wilky and Thomo to defend with skill, prowess and confidence to clear with definitive objective and control. Thankfully, Capt Wuzzi Wystawnoha has the midfield organised and the centre of the park in control ... Passes completed, Johnson..... Thomas, has the first break on goal ... Page | 4

Whitworth's defence are quick to react and the ball's cleverly intercepted before the Johnson right foot takes aim .... Corner Ball. Lucas ”the Tank" Turner takes position from his central midfield role alongside Wuzzi who places the ball to whip in the corner ... We know the keepers good ... But, Thomas Johnson expertly sees the opportunity to go short, plays a clever one/two with Wuzzi and the ball's directed across Whitworths goal .. A scramble pursues and Whitworths keeper prepares for another dead ball kick ... Pennine's pressure has been relentless but not without counter from Whitworth. Goal kick is gathered skillfully by Stevie Johnson .. Moved inside to Wuzzi who beats 1, 2, 3, 4 and nearly 5 until the swarm around him smothers his options his incredulous skill & Determination is applauded. Whitworth gain possession and break quickly down the middle ... Wilky recovers quickly with pace and determination ... Directs the play to a safe zone and keeping the play simple ”the Tank” Turner re-directs play midfield to the left where Stevie Johnson collects with ease and bursts with pace and confidence down the left ... Running into trouble, Stevie realises he must look for internal support ... Finding Wuzzi at the edge of the area, trying to offload a shot with direction that's blocked, changes tact and threads the ball onto Thomas "the finish" Laidlers right foot ..... All i can say is, 1-0 ..... Pennine have the advantage after a cleverly worked move and an expert finish beating an excellent keeper. With 20 mins gone .... Westerman & Wystawnoha find it tough to individualism a player for a rest ... Pennine playing as a team, working well with our strategy of Keeping it Simple Stupid! (KISS) are reluctant to change the line up before half time. 5 mins past.... Its half time, Pennine the better side in my opinion (but, What's that worth .. Not a great deal if you ask the wife !!) Continue to play good progressive footballing moves ...., with 7 shots in the first half, 1 scored, 1 missed and 5 saved ... You get the feeling Whitworths keeper could be the man to beat on this lovely Autumn morning. Changing the format - Westerman, grudgingly replaces Liam Thompson for Archie Burke where Liam Thompson .... Thomo, Wilky & Westie all giving 100% in the first half provides a tough decision that includes the move of "The Tank" to Centre Half and Wilky to Left fullback..., Archie "Control" Burke ...... Excellent ball and "Hair control" settles into Left Midfield and Thomas "the Finish" Laidler takes right as Thomas "the hit Man" Johnson takes strike ... Pennine are confident to proceed to win. Second half starts with pace... Pennine seem sleepy and slow to the second ball ....Whitworth seize the opportunity to move forward with Pennines reluctance to recover .... Pennine become under pressure, Gillard requires performance as a lazy shot, on target without pace bounces just before our keeper. It’s tough to gather the pace and Gillards legs are breached apart... As the ball creeps over the line ..... 1-1 Whitworth are shocked by the given opportunity, they raise their game and ambitions as they seek a possible cup shock in defeating the league leaders ... Pennine have to dig deep the next 10 mins ... Shot after shot, saved by the Whitworth keeper with ease as the shots are unchallenging and directly aimed at the keeper without purpose. It’s tough to call ... Both teams now digging deep ... Looking for that last energy boost .. Pennine Break through the middle that causes a foul on The Tank ... Passing the free kick to Wuzzi ... The Tank takes his positionin front of Whitworths stalwart keeper ...,the shots fantastic, on target, with pace and velocity ... Whitworth's keeper parries well into the box and cleared down the left touchline to Whitworths left midfield ... Driving forward he encounters Westie on the right, a determined challenge wins Page | 5

the ball .... Drives forward 3yds and with a purposeful 30 yrd delivery feeds Wuzzi who controls quickly, strides to the right to round the defender and slips through to "the finish" Laidler ... No question asked, bottom right corner ... Expertly finished again .... 2-1 . Pennine gain confidence and commitment by edging into the lead ... Whitworth do not crumble, they have the fight, determined not to roll over the team consolidate and keep going . They have a determination, a true team spirit just like Pennines ... They will not retreat ! Again and again Pennine apply the pressure, excellent football at times and Whitworth cant respond ... Occasionally they break forward, this time with pace and executing a long range shot ... Gillard should easily gather, again bouncing close to his feet misses the pace of the ball, rebound within his body and legs and again crosses the line 2-2 ..... 2 soft Whitworth goals forces a Cup draw at full time and the fixture goes to Penalties to decide the day. After 60mins 2-2. Pennine select 5 penalty takers and Whitworth correspond accordingly... Gillard takes word of confidence from Westerman as Wystawnoha prepares the gallant individuals ready to take aim and fire. It’s a tense moment .... Wuzzi wins the toss and we are first up to fire with "the Tank" Turner ... Surely, his power should rocket passed the Whitworth maestro keeper, he opts to place the ball right corner, narrowly missing his target and the post the shots wide .... Whitworth 0 -Pennine 0 (after1) Whitworth confident with Pennines first penalty miss step up to blast their first past Gillard ... Power shot, driven left of centre as Gillard peels right Whitworth 1 - Pennine 0 (after 1) It’s getting serious, Pennine 1-0 down as Capt Wuzzi takes centre stage to get Pennine back on track.... The ball, whizzes past the Whitworth keeper, barely having time to blink ... Whitworth 1 - Pennine 1 (after 2) Whitworth's central midfield steps up next ... He cracks the ball wildly, it heads left he's over- cooked the shot and pulled it left beyond Gillards Right post ..or as he, it sails into bottom left corner Whitworth 2 Pennine 1 (after 2) Its Thomas The Finish" Laidler .... Surely he will bag... He connects straight on, the keeper stands upright as the ball hits his torso and deflects in front .... Whitworth 2 Pennine 1 (after 3) Surely, Whitworth now have the momentum and confidence to push ahead ... Its strikers turn to strike ... Will he connect, can Gillard execute his training principles ... ? Its struck well, hard and low to Gillards right its surely creeping in the lower left corner with power ... Gillard outstripped, his reach matches the pace and directionof the ball ... Has Gillard redeemed himself ..... As the ball's pushed onto the post , the save deflecting the ball onto the outside of the post and away ... Gillard raises to his feet to teammate cheers & jubilation .... Whitworth 2 Pennine 2 (after 3) Page | 6

Westie Steps up to the challenge - his first ever penalty.... Without fear, strikes the ball with mature accuracy .... The keepers lost with the power and direction Whitworth 2 Pennine 3 (After 4) Whitworth still have a chance ... They must score to keep the pressure on Pennine.... Steps up to take, the balls struck well but straight at Gillard ... Gillards reacts well, blocking the strike with legs and arms and clearing left .... A great save ... Has Gillard done enough ? Whitworth 2 Pennine 3 (after 4) It’s the last Pennine penalty .... Up steps the "engine room" of Pennines defence ... Wilky has the most pressure ... Does he realise it ? Its tense, Pennine huddle together to wish the net to bulge, its struck well , always struck well by Wilky ... That's why he's chosen to take the last blast ... It powers past the Whitworth stricken keeper, the net bulges without disappointment .... Pennine are through ... Gillard has a reprieve with excellent penalty saves and as the team celebrate the tension subsides as we are through to round 3 ... Great game - our wishes to Whitworth of exceptional performance and character and grace with defeat .... As We prepare to meet again next week in the league Goal Scorers this morning Thomas Laidler 2 Will Wystawnoha 1 Max Westerman 1 Ben Wilkinson 1 Man of the Match Without putting a foot wrong this morning, excellent tackling , skill and continued passing distribution through to Midfield - Max Westerman was unbeatable in defence this morning. You think it’s all over - it is for now .... Till next week keep on reading !!!!

27.10.12 Unsworth vs Pennine Juniors Black Its top of the table clash this morning against rivals Unsworth – a very fine foot balling set up indeed … Playing Away close to Whitefield causes confusion within the Pennine motorised convoy this morning, Sarah Johnson nearly running out of fuel on the M62…. having to urgently fill up close to TGI Fridays and the loss of a further 3 vehicles going for “early morning refreshments and cakes at Slattery’s (you know who you are ??? !) … I don’t blame ya ….. Manager and coach having to round the lads up like sheep dogs to get them to their next league trial this morning. Gloves on, bobble hat and scarves out of the bottom of the wardrobe ….bye eck its cold this morning, 2 degree …. absolutely freezing as the first winters frost cast a silvery reflecting due on the playing surface. Selection this morning is straight forward …. Oliver “tippy toe” Bargh out of contention due to a reoccurring groin strain… I’m sure he loves the lovely ladies at the Physio for his repeated visits are becoming to frequent for comfort! Page | 7

Gillard at the back, defensive trio Westerman, Wilkinson and Thompson protect the ever dependable Chris Gillard … this defence & keeper are awesome, some statistics for you , Played 4 and only conceding 4 goals …. what a record, no wonder Pennine are tough to beat. Midfield General (Wuzzi) Will Wystawnoha this week without his number 2 …Ollie “Tippy Toe” Bargh (his quick feet will be missed this morning) however, Lucas “The Tank” Turner takes his place in the centre of midfield with Steven Johnson to the left and Archie Burke to the right & up top Thomas Johnson ready for action. Unsworth , 2nd in the league, played statistics , Played 4, won 3, drawn 1, …. This will be Pennine’s toughest test this season … Will Unsworth break down Pennine’s defence, have they got the firepower and skill to outwit Gillard or the sheer physical presence to outthink and muster Wuzzi’s midfield … it’s time to find out. As the ref commences this fixture – a retired referee, with 2 new knees and half re-built the fixture is underway. Pennine are quick to kick off and break into Unsworth’s half, between Wuzzi Wystawnoha and Stevie Johnson the attack is soon closed down by Unsworth Defence and cleared out wide right. Unsworth take the initiative, in fact moving the ball with grace and finesse down the right side from defence through midfield they look sharp, controlled and playing as a unit – very good football indeed. Pennine scramble well with excellent recovery from Lucas “The Tank” Turner …its early days and the Tank is up for it … Tackles and physical contact by both teams is quickly ignored by the referee, free kicks should have been awarded to Pennine and then to Unsworth ….”Play On” … he shouts as the ball clumsily deflects for Unsworth throw. These boys can play football …. Several attacks down the right side brings Max Westerman into close contact and tackle after tackle from Ben and the back 3 relieve Pennine at times under constant pressure … as Chris Gillard gathers from a dwindled attack, kicks the ball past half way …. Stevie Johnson controls the ball and passes through to Thomas Johnson down the left …. Thomas races to the touch line, keeping the ball under control, flicks the ball back to Wuzzi Wystawnoha in support as he take aim to fire Unsworth clumsy tackle clips his right ankle and the referee, again play’s on … a sure foul not given again …. It may be one of those days. ! Unsworth muster well, playing neat football at times … passing and moving down left and right and occasionally getting a shot off at Gillard … their inaccuracy let them down … making space and creating opportunities they must hit the target … Gillard comfortable to save a couple and distribute the ball well down field with a good goal kick. The Tank this morning must have had too much red meat at his Gran’s this week on half term …. Sliding Tackle at Unsworth centre midfield and the Ref has no option … a foul…. The Tank’s timing a little astray however, I like the commitment and physical presence …. Free kick to Unsworth outside the box… Unsworth waste the opportunity to slot one in … Gillard is not troubled as the ball flies past wide left … Goal Kick… It’s not long before The Tank’s in action again ….. a second and then a third tackle on the left hand side awards Unsworth their next freekick. Another fired across Gillard’s goal … this time on target but without much pace … Gillard collects and delivers a good kick to Archie Burke … controlling the ball expertly down the right feeds Wuzzi Wystawnoha inside, Unsworth this Page | 8

time make a rash challenge, the referee at last gives us the free kick we well deserve and Wuzzi places the ball 35yds our eyeing his target in preparation for the ref’s whistle…… He delivers … again and again I’ve seen this free kick … a text book delivery….. high, floating but with added flight and pace …. Its unstoppable, top left corner again … Pennine take the advantage as Captain Wystawnoha leads and sets the example to give Pennine a little breathing space in a match that is incredibly close and tough to call …. 10 mins to half time. Pennine increase the pressure … confidence in moving forward generate comfortable passing moves down the right and left however, shots are weak and do not trouble the keeper. Unswoth set up is very good, playing the ball with confidence from the keeper to defence opening up Pennine’s midfield and using the ball right and left causes Pennine concern …. We instruct the top men to cut out the short ball out wide … Unsworth expertly use this as their counter measure and play nice football down the left hand side creating several openings on Pennine;s back 3 …. Westerman and Thompson rally to the defensive positions, Stevie Johnson recovers ever so well from left midfield to right back to help out on occasion, we do not win the ball back on this occasion a shot is fired at Gillard … again , fairly weak but has direction … just misses Gillard’s right post and out for dead ball kick. The resultant dead ball kick is not received well in midfield, Unsworth collect with speed and skill down the left … pivot round the back 3 and a foul creates a free kick for Unsworth to line up a free kick …. A great shot, driving high from 25yds… Gillard should be able to tip over the bar …. Slightly of his line it creeps in underneath the bar …. 1-1 and half time is neatly upon us…. A quick change Thomas Laidler is placed up top in strike position as Lucas “the Tank” has a rest Thomas Johnson fills in the midfield next to captain Wuzzi. Unsworth now feel they have a way through … confidence building their midfield take on extra passing and move drive … Wilkinson in the way again, breaks down the move and carries the ball into Midfield… a lovely ball down the right to Archie Burke, controls and tries to gain positive forward movement and shoot … the ball whistles wide as the pressure from Unsworth defensive trio has effect on Archie Burke’s concentration and the shot is hurried. – Half time 1-1 Pennine playing well … are making some good forward penetrating moves into Unswoth’s half … Unsworth have quite a lot of possession in centre field and down the right hand side on occasion… Pennine are told at Half time the work ethic is excellent, the physical nature of the game is trying at times for Pennine to break further forward and capitalize on the possession we have. Instructed to close down the keeper early onset plays and Throw ins as we looked to be getting caught without recovering to set play positions and marking … Pennine start the second half trying to box Unsworth into their own half. It’s not long … Pennine push the ball down the left using Stevie Johnson and up to Thomas Laidler chasing through on goal , one on one nearly with the keeper as the keeper gathers into his hands…. This is where Pennine have to press hard up top … In stopping the short ball wide to defence … Unsworth’s keeper has no option to kick the ball into midfield….. with Captain Wuzzi, Thomas Johnson ready to pounce and win the 50/50 ball we now have Unsworth pinned in up top without any direction to advance further forward… repeated attacks from Pennine down the middle had Unsworth recovering far too often for comfort, we break through Archie Burke from a through ball

Page | 9

from Captain Wuzzi, ball crossed and Thomas Johnson meets the cross, hit hard low … the ball deflects off Unsworth’s centre half’s right heel and bolts up high into the top corner …. 2-1 Unsworth didn’t deserve that incident …. Pennine again take the positive momentum and confidence to drive and drive again at Unsworth …. Unsworth at time, again tricky to deal with have a good offensive manner, moving the ball with crisp passing and movement get to Pennine’s last 3 rd … again, Pennine’s defence is too strong or the shot is wild without direction let’s Pennine off the hook …. We drive further forward, Unsworth recover on a through ball to Thomas Laidler …. Drives forward and a perfect right foot finish to the keepers left hand side....Unstoppable at pace a true strikers finish … 3-1 Pennine are now in full flight …. Unsworth find it tough to keep possession and every time Pennine get the ball to ground, ¾ passes later and through on goal or ready to strike … Unsworth defend with great pride and efficiency, these boys have been trained and trained well at that … they are precise, organised and well structured ….. however, playing 3 strikers left them vulnerable in the middle of the park and quick to defend with Pennine’ s direct foot balling / quick pass and move strategy. 4-1 …. Again, a fantastic through ball and shot by Thomas Johnson who’s brought down at the same time in the box, ball rebounds to the feet of Captain Wuzzi Wystawnoha 20 yds out…. Wuzzi’s right foot on-target drive deflects off Thomas Johnson who continues to “sleep” on the ground in the penalty box”, ball goes wide and Unsworth clear their lines…. Max Westerman pops up in Midfield, tries the Ronaldo chop – fails miserably but surprisingly beats himself and 2 approaching hunting Unsworth strikers…. Westerman delivers a ball inside to Lucas “The Tank” Turner who’s rested and takes place of Ben Wilkinson…. Ben “The Engine” Wilkinson … who’s delivered a faultless performance has a rest as he’s the only player not to be rested the previous week against Littleborough. As “The Tank” takes the ball … gets tackled quickly… “The Tank” tries to recover with a sliding tackle … and to me; this is the best tackle of the day …. Others think not, referee thinks not …. Free kick awarded to Unsworth …. The shot fizzles off Gillard’s upright and cross bar … be careful Pennine, Unsworth are not beat yet and still have a lot of troublesome counter attacks left yet. The ball cleared by Gillard far right … taken on through midfield by Archie Burke … the pass to Thomas Laidler is neatly flicked on to Stevie Johnson, Pennine continue to drive down the left side … as the ball falls to Archie Burke who must score … the ball bobbles, the shot mishit and the keeper gathers. Unsworth commence play again, Pennine tackle with a great interception from Thomas Johnson, ball played back to Liam Thompson who clips the ball down the wing… Unsworth gather the ball, move a direct long ball forward to midfield …. The central defender pushes up, receives the ball and takes aim to drive the ball right … Gillard takes position to dive to his left, the ball beats him and clatters the bottom of the post and deflects to far right … Liam Thompson gathers, turns and delivers a ball into Stevie Johnson who carries down the left wing expertly to the goal line and wins a corner …. Wuzzi steps up to flick the ball up for Lucas “The Tank” Turner to head home … its right on the penalty spot, “The Tank” connects but the ball lunges forward and deflected outside the box ….Thomas Laidler is there to pounce … in striking the ball hard we get another lucky break, deflected off the midfield the ball loops over the crowded box toward the far right corner… the keeper scrambles to get there however the spin on the ball drive it home ….. another OG …. 5-1

Page | 10

As the play continues … the referee has a change of heart …. Providing Unsworth a glimmer of hope, awarding soft free kick after soft free kick…. Pennine defend strong and hard in the last 4 minutes. Thompson, Turner and Westerman all making critical challenges and clearances to ensure Pennine’s fantastic away record and goals against statistic. The games over 5-1 …. Unsworth seem deflated, as players shake hands reluctantly you can tell it’s been a tough encounter, a physical yet fair game that could have gone either way at half time…. Man of the Match this week – We have all seen much more skilful performances from this young lad however, it’s not his skill that rewarded his efforts this morning … his true determination, tackles and pass delivering expertise … Captain Will “Wuzzi” Wystawnoha …. Had a smashing game this morning, his free kick finish superb to watch and difficult to replicate week in, week out … I must say … well done Will.

20.10.12 Pennine Blacks v Littleborough The team was set up by Simon Wystanoha whose natural enthusiasm will hopefully rub off on the boys this morning, although whilst his humour invariably goes over their heads it is at least appreciated by the parents, well some of them anyway. He did explain the team formation and tactics to the author before the game but this sadly went way over the head of this poor simpleton who merely records it here as ‘our 9 lads stood in their own half facing the opposition and admiring what a sterling job the parents had done assembling the Krypton Factor Goal challenge.!!! Kick off (See Simon for team set up, AB and TL allocated the ‘impact role’ off the bench)Tried mentioning all the boys but may have missed someone 1-0 Great through ball by Will Wystanoha splitting the defence and putting it into the feet of Lucas who takes the ball in his stride before coolly rounding the keeper and rolling the ball into the now unguarded net. Great early strike to stamp our authority on the game. Will whistled a shot wide much to the relief of a worried looking keeper. Ollie took the ball, sharp turn before firing the ball into the side netting. Numerous Pennine forays are terminated by the safe and assured handling of the visiting keeper, yet another keeper in ‘Joe Hartesque form’ standing between Pennine and the score line their domination deserves. Good covering tackle by Ben Wilkinson to snuff out the danger of a rare L/boro forward raid. Littleborough get to the bye line on their next venture forward but their dangerous looking cross is plucked calmly out of its flight by CG. Thomas Johnson catches a sleeping defender in possession, takes the ball off him before unleashing a rasping right foot shot that has goal written all over it before a superb one handed flying save from the impressive visiting keeper. 2-0 The relief was short lived as the resulting corner is expertly delivered by WW and met with a deft glancing header by Lucas. 2-1 Littleborough fearing being swamped flood forward in numbers, Pennine had the chance to clear but playing your way out of trouble sometimes needs to be replaced by the big W (Wellie it for the uninitiated, my words I hasten to add not Nigel’s who will no doubt be shaking his head at these comments). Littleborough with their first shot on target in anger get right back in the game. How will the boys respond?

Page | 11

3-1 We don’t have to wait long for the answer; another corner from Will met with his now trademark ‘Bullet Header’ by Lucas, this combination will surely provide a rich seam of goals this year. A first half hat-trick and another ball lost from the PJ stock, the treasurer is surely a worried man and we need that sponsorship deal from Mitre signing urgently. Learning from letting Littleborough back in the game straight after their last goal the lads show their opposition due respect and keep on taking the game too them 4-1 A great through ball by Archie for OB to run onto, his first touch takes him past the defender his second plants the ball into the bottom right hand corner, despite the mounting score this keeper is tidy and it takes a good shot to beat him. Littleborough are a good side and refuse to lie down, the defence has to work hard as boro begin to enjoy their first period of sustained pressure and it takes a good covering tackle by Liam to halt their foray. If Liam thinks he has time to admire his excellent work Max soon reminds him and the rest of the lads ‘keep your shape’ they will be no sleeping or switching off on Max’s shift!! Further L/boro attacks are repelled by the excellent Ben who always seems to be in the right place at the right time, Liam with good positional play and a no nonsense approach and finding the right pass to relieve pressure. Max ‘never take a backward step’ Westerman putting his body on the line time and time again, anyone playing against him will know they have been in a game. Steven Johnson playing real cultured football bringing the ball out from the back and like all good players looks to have loads of time on the ball. 4-2 Littleborough, frustrated at not being able to play football through PJ try a speculative shot, you know from the minute it leaves the lads foot where it will end up, crashing in off the underside of the crossbar. The lads will have to afford this L/boro outfit a good deal of respect if they are to see this one out, they just do not know when they are beat. Oliver blots his copy book, following great approach play by the team the ball falls to Oliver inside the six yard box and with the goal at his mercy, inexplicably, rather than breaking the back of the net he squares the ball to a surprised WW who not expecting the pass places his shot wide of the post!! Oliver’s ‘error of judgement’ is vocally pointed out to him by both his coach from one side of the pitch and his Dad from the other, he will learn from this (or Simon will enrol him on one of his infamous re-education programmes). This game is a long way from being won and this let off gives L/boro renewed hope and they do not need further invitation to get forward and end the half strongly. Half time 4-2 5-2 Captain fantastic WW eases PJ nerves (well the players have it all under control but I’m not too sure about the parents), collecting the ball outside the box and thundering a right foot exorset into the top left hand corner, even this keeper will not get near that one!! It’s all Pennine now, great approach play started by SJ dispossessing the winger moving the ball forward to his brother TJ, good exchange play involving OB & WW back to TJ, who gets a great shot away, on any other day this would have been a goal but the visiting keeper once again denies him. On another day TJ would have been taking the match ball home again but today has the misfortune of coming up against a keeper in fine form. Good play, good shot, good save, good football. 6-2 A forward ball finds an unmarked TJ his shot is parried by the keeper to a nonchalant Archie Burke who looks like he has been taking 40 winks leaning against the far post, luckily for the lads he awakes just in time to stroke the ball into the net. For the first time today the lads can enjoy the reward for all their hard work and can express themselves as there does not look like a way back now for Littleborough given the near total domination PJ have. Stroking the ball round, pass and move, pass and move, all the hard work on the training ground coming to the fore, Nigel would have been very proud if he were here to see it, however this performance is far more artistic and polished than anything you will see on Broadway Nigel!

Page | 12

7-2 Great approach play involving the 2 Tom’s Ledley and Johnson works the ball to WW who swings the right wand and the ball flies into the net, taking a slight deflection on its way, which if anything takes the ball closer to the keeper but still has too much, even for this gifted keeper. 8-2 Just enough time for the goal of the game, a right foot crisp rising drive from Archie from way way out, still rising and accelerating as it smashes into the net, which is the only thing that prevents it coming to rest in The Harrows beer garden such is its ferocity!! (This is the same net incidentally that was expertly put together earlier that morning by the parents, who seem to be finally getting the hang of how it all goes together now without Nigel’s supervision). Full time 8-2: A fine performance and impressive score line which perhaps to be fair to Littleborough they perhaps don’t really deserve as the two late goals were harsh on them. They played their part in a good game of football which was played throughout in the right spirit with both teams looking to get the ball down and play football. The young referee had an excellent game and let the game flow, you know the ref has had a good game when he isn’t mentioned in the match report until the last paragraph!!

Previous match reports: 13.10.12 Westbury vs Pennine Saturday's quickly upon us again ...pitch is "touch and go”, tough to call ... due to excessive rainfall on Thursday evening.... Soft, very long grass but at best, a good home for Shergar..... if you can find him? Pennine were ready for this middle of the table clash against Westbury leopards. Westbury, a good honest team playing some decent forward attacking football and apparently having a fantastic shot stopping keeper, Pennine may find it tough to bag this morning. Wuzzi Wystawnoha gathers his boys together on a massive pitch ... Fit for junior boys football and the odd cart horse ... Coach and manager prime the lads to competitive awakenings and "KISS" the ball into play.... Last week’s 2nd half demolition of Bury Amateurs continues our unbeaten run of played 3, won 2, drawn 1. Again it’s difficult to select the starting line-up - manager & Coach Westerman & Wystawnoha (W2) decide to rest Liam Thompson in the first half but it’s a tough decision, ever dependable Thompson will be a well-rested addition to bolster the 2nd half play- a tactical rest for Thompson....Ever dependable with awesome tackling and heading ability. I can see the spectators have settled in well to Coffee & Bacon sandwiches ....an excellent reception from Westbury and a fantastic set up for boys’ football. The referee, signals his wish to start the game slightly late due to Westbury's technical issue with no goalkeeping gloves. Pennine line up with Gillard nestled nicely between the post's with first defence of Ben Wilkinson, Lucas Turner and Max Westerman, gear themselves to switch on, ready for the initial contact with Westbury's strike force....Midfield unchanged from last week, Wuzzi surrounded by Oliver Barge, Steven Johnson and Archie Burke - we hope the midfield centre offensive/ defence Quad works well this morning with our strategy to continuously feed Thomas”The Rocket" Johnson. Pennine force Westbury to retreat, challenge after challenge in the centre of the park as both teams gain and loose possession alternatively...Westbury have the first break into Pennine's half, looking good coming forward and with confidence in numbers ... Pennine recover well, challenges and hard tackles at the back by Westerman and Turner clearing the ball quickly when under pressure Pennine need to settle into KISS (keep it simple, stupid!) Regain possession and build the footballing passing / move assault on Westbury's back 3. After 5mins, Pennine settle on the ball - Bargh to Wuzzi , Wuzzi to Archie Burke down the right as Pennine carve their first creative attack ... Shot on goal by Thomas Johnson is gathered technically by Westbury's keeper. Westbury attempt to clear on several occasions, Pennine camped in Westbury's Page | 13

half on a big pitch and Westbury struggle to gain possession and clear their lines ... Tremendous, continuous pressure from Thomas Johnson, Bargh, Wuzzi and Archie Burke - force Westbury to clear goal wards and a corner kick proceeds. Wuzzi takes position to execute the dead ball routine, connects brilliantly with outward bend and pace directly into Westbury's danger area ... A goal mouth scramble and Westbury clear down the right ... Ball collected skilfully by Archie Burke, laid off perfectly to Wuzzi, takes a touch, sees the opportunity to let rip on goal - not a powerful shot, a graceful creative long curling çhip towards top right corner.. The ball hit perfectly catches the keeper out and back peddling to stop the unstoppable, too high, too accurate curling goal shot... A cheeky, skilful goal taken by Capt Wuzzi, leading the boys by example and from the front....1-0. Westbury come forward ....excellent recovery by Oliver "quick feet" Bargh, motors down the left flank with Stevie “supreme" Johnson in quick support, makes the touch line to strike a low cross across the box ... Deflection from Westbury's number 2 and Corner given. Neatly taken by Wuzzi... however, Pennine struggle to meet the expert cross. Pennine gather with confidence.... Straight from Westbury's goal kick, Thomas Johnson fired up to get the ball back ...shows determination and skill to strip Westbury's possession ...Numerous times Pennine battle and carve an opening, Westbury's keeper at ease saving shot after shot ... This guy is not good .... He's superb!!! .... a fantastic shot from Wuzzi is saved expertly and parried for corner. Wuzzi whips the ball in again - an excellent 4th corner, very difficult to defend against ... straight into the danger zone - Lucas "the Tank" Turner battles for position to meet the oncoming swerving ball with power... Rises like a Salmon, full contact on the forehead, a millisecond later the net bulges - a superb combination of training ground set piece and excellent determination from the Tank, a truly superb demonstration of heading the ball in attack formation- a text book finish ... Very fine indeed .. 2-0.. Pennine now have time to settle ... Bargh continues to "tippy toe" nicely down the left hand flank, taking on players, growing in confidence and with excellent support from Capt Wuzzi Wystawnoha, suddenly open up the game with a creative diagonal left to right through ball and puts Archie Burke through on goal ... Westbury's centre half with long blonde locks is there again and again - a excellent defender with good interception technique and clearance - time and time again he saves the day for Westbury. Westbury move the ball forward well at times ... occasionally Westerman and Wilkinson having to back pedal, recover well and clear. On this occasion, driving forward Wilkinson rides a forceful tackle, the next was ill timed - Wilkinson cut down like a large oak tree - shin pad clash echoing around the Westbury Barracks ground... Wilkinson shows bravery and determination and runs off the heavy contact "taking one for the team”..... Unfortunately for Westbury, the contact made on the wrong man ... Wilkinson ever more determined to hustle & bustle with intent and physical presence. Pennine exercise masterful passing and control techniques down the left and right ...keeping the ball wide, Westbury struggle to match the width and recovery inside the channel ... Bargh "tippy toes” again -" Fred Astaire would have been proud!!! " ... Passing combinations with Stevie Johnson opens up for Bargh to follow up and fire at close range ... The ball skims of the wet surface as Bargh's left foot connects at pace ... Keeper struggling to get down to his left in time as the ball whips into the back of the net ... 3-0. Half time is nearly upon us ... Game moving swiftly into Pennine's positive possession and control ...occasionally, Pennine drifting too far forward creates space in between our Midfield and Defence where Westbury desperately try to take advantage until" The Tanks" back 3 get in the way with power and strength, playing the ball, Wilkinson & Westerman force the play forward to remain in Page | 14

possession with direct, quick, offensive breaks to the left, to the right and dead centre... Forcing Westbury's keeper to make successive excellent saves to keep them in it.... It’s time for a wellearned Drink... its Westbury 0 - 3 Pennine Blacks. Half time team talk is not invaded by wasps this week .... Coach & manager reiterate our strategy.... KISS & regain possession and demonstrate their team play, pass & move ability with return ball's the boys know their duties it’s down to their desire to retain the lead and win this game.....To demonstrate individual team passing play ... That's our message at half time.... Play your football and keep it "team foccussed". As the ref continues proceedings at the Barracks.... The last thing Pennine needed, was a sluggish start after the interval but the opposite was true ... With the sun continuing to shine and I'm sure the grass grew 10mm from the first half .... ???? Pennine full of confidence introduce Liam Thompson to sure up defence –Max Westerman rest's due to carrying a slight injury from last week....Thompson settles in quickly as Westbury come from out of the break in fighting fashion ... It’s not easy, Westbury compile some nice passing movement trying to dissect Pennine's midfield at times with ease however, Thompson’s grit and determination equals their resolve ... Clearing the ball left, deflected for throw in.... Thompson gathers the ball, with a Thompson fantastic throw to Bargh who's flicks on and eventually controlled by Wuzzi threads the ball to Thomas Johnson....1 vs 1 on goal, Johnsons superb skill blind sides the long curly blonde(good player) central defender ... Takes aim !!! Goalkeeper saves into danger zone, Westbury attempt to clear but the speed and direct secondary attack by Thomas Johnson is too powerful, second shot, makes no mistake and the keepers grounded....Expertly finished 4-0. Westbury struggling with Pennine's direct one touch football at times, carving Westbury's midfield into pieces and without recovery or available substitutions.. Pennine's onslaught begins... Pennine's ease at moving the ball forward is battled well by Westbury .. The last third of the pitch is tough for Westbury to control as the pressure builds, time and time again, a series of fantastic athletic saves by Westbury's keeper keeps Westbury focussed on the job - this keeper is tough to beat, always in the right position and expert to deflect, parry and gather with proficiency. Pennine gather more momentum however, the teams individual overwhelming objective to score threatens our defensive line up as Pennine lose their positional shape and structure. On this occasion we're lucky ... Westbury cleverly move quickly on attack, with defence too far forward we are caught on the break ... Westbury are through on goal, Ben Wilkinson's excellent recovery is too good for Westbury saving the day.....and Gillard is unfortunately, left snoozing some more ....and not required to intervene.... if Pennine's shape is not resurrected, Westbury have the ability of counter measure to respond – be careful boys... And keep your positions....! After Willkinsons clearance, Pennine advance to Westbury's goal mouth, quick feet and thinking by Bargh delivers a pass through to Wuzzi down the right forcing corner ... Wuzzi flips the corner to near post and ball returns for second attempt to cross deep ... Wuzzi Wystawnoha clips the ball that hangs up there over the 6 yard box ... Again, in open play "the Salmon", darting up river, again rises above the defence & finishes with little heading effort - "The Tank" a fantastic open play recovery team goal.... 5-0. As Westbury begin to falter ... Pennine change the line-up, Stevie Johnson heads to shore up defence; Ben Wilkinson and Max Weterman don't look out of place in Midfield as Captain Wuzzi takes a well-earned rest after suffering a slight knock - an excellent captains performance... forever playmaker and individual creative mastermind - keep up the excellent exciting contribution Wuzzi !

With 10 mins to go - attackers, midfield and defence are at times frantic to get the next goal .... A goal mouth scramble and the ball pops up to Bargh, quick feet and slots the ball left of the keeper .... 6-0. With Bargh & "The Tank" on a hat-trick- Pennine push up further to gain strike position , again, leaving us vulnerable in the centre of the park and at the rear ... Pennine are all too gung-ho to score ... Chance falls to Archie Burke down the right then to "the Tank .... deflection out to half way line, its total panic in Westbury's last 1/3rd of the pitch ..... Constant pressure repeated in the second half by Ben Wilkinson and Max Westerman moving forward in midfield, excellent collection and distribution up front to Thomas Johnson down right hand side ... Creates space for Ollie "the tip-toe Bargh" in the channel.... Fires a great shot wide right of the keeper, hits the post and deflects goal ward with power hitting the keepers back, crossing the goal line with a deflection.... Bargh takes celebration of his hat-trick- declared OG by the referee and a disappointed Bargh ...its 7-0... as he "Tippy-toed" back to kick off. Pennines relentless forward combinations subdue Westbury now .... ball won and delivery to Thomas Johnson by Liam Thompson creates the opening to shoot - ball sails in left corner ... A welldeserved 2nd for Johnson, a true dynamic player moving forward...Now A third player hunting for hat-trick . 8-0. With minutes remaining Pennine push up too much - losing positional / structure in their game Westbury break forward behind Pennines defensive trio .... Westbury are open on goal ... Gillard takes evasive action, positions himself accurately to be ready for strike and the ball needs saving but its un-troublesome for Gillard who parries for late corner.... Westbury fill the Pennine Goal area as the corner is taken... Balls whipped in, cleverly intercepted by Wilkinson and played clear to Thomas Johnson who expertly controls without thinking - Pennine on the break, with Bargh contributing support in centre ... Westbury valiantly tackle, Bargh is open and ready to pounce, hat-trick in sight he makes no mistake .... An exceptional drive, low, hard and unstoppable left from centre .... Catches this awesome shot stopping keeper off balance and bemused by Pennines quick attacking break has no chance to perform a 12th magnificent save....9-0 .... Bargh completing his trio, a well-deserved hat-trick expertly finished with precise finishing. Pennine deserve the win - Westbury without 4 key players & substitutes have had a very tough encounter ... I applaud their battling instincts and I believe they have true footballing talent between them. Pennine, unbeaten in 4 games.... continue their prolific league performance - individually, Bargh and capt. Wuzzi Wystawnoha leading the pack with fantastic game play and skill. Bargh taking MOM with a fantastic hat-trick contribution. The Trio of Defenders must have a mention - conceding only 3 goals in 4 games - their game play and joint recovery protects Gillard in the uprights and when we call upon Chris "the hands" Gillard - he never disappoints - our defensive marvels are .... "Tough" Thompson,..... "the Tank" Turner,.... Max "the Crunch" Westerman & ....."watch ya back" Wilkinson.... "Don't upset him.... You'll get the red mist!!!! Keep up the excellent football Ollie ... It suits you! Goal Scorers this morning: Thomas Johnston - 2 Lucas Turner - 2 Ollie Bargh - 3 Will Wystawnoha - 1 OG - 1 Page | 16

Boys .... A lesson from coach & Manager - a lesson in winning is making sure there's no opportunity for the opposition to score. (If at 3-0 or 9-0 its without fail you maintain shape, position and play as a defensive/attacking UNIT) at times today , in the second half, you dismissed your key role .... Your position!!!! Be mindful of this in the future. As I write this, over the North African continent, I dwell on this morning’s performance.... A true spectacular team performance, creative & skilful play and all of your footballing skill & development is lovely to watch and I'm assured by your continued commitment we will succeed and have lots of fun in the process. Bring on Littleborough at home next week, meet 9am at Mathew Moss to build nets..... Yeah ... It will be a challenge for parents!!! .. Good luck as I'm in New York.... It’s time for me to sleep now..... You think it’s all over, it is now. God Bless....!!! Nigel Westerman Manager - Coach, organiser.... Without question ....fundamentally – a parent.

06.10.12 Pennine Blacks vs Bury Amateurs Red Saturday morning arrives once more as Pennine look to take on Bury.... It’s been raining all week can our Wembley surface stand up to the test of Rochdale's adverse Autumn weather conditions? Nets built with grace at the "Forrest fire" end.... I see a struggle at "Domestic doom" end as several dads ponder their decision making in the Krypton Factor challenge.... With slight guidance, their back on track as the sunshine warms the pitch and the Ref arrives we are ready to absorb the pre-match Wystawnoha warm up, team talk & general life science guide to Saturday morning football - lovin it!! Corner flags barely whisping in the breeze, Gillard passes a late fitness test due to a midweek Dr's appointment confirming he has "2 shoulder's !" with one creating severe pain.... .... Without doubt, Gillard takes one for the team this morning as only the senior management are aware of his painful condition. ... Well done Chris. Bury look in fine fettle ... A squad of 13 in identical AC Milan stripes resulting in a clash of colours, Bury selecting luminous green bibs as the boys line up for the respect hand shake in the centre of a pitch with going ”good to very soft“ in places. Pennine's selection this morning is tough - unbeaten in the last 2 fixtures, ”double W“ management team of Wystawnoha & Westerman have to select places from ”time played“ statistics.... The mighty Ben Wilkinson takes central defence, a tough position perfectly performed by Wilkinson alongside his left and right support Liam Thompson and Max Westerman respectively, create an impenetrable back 3 as Whitworth witnessed last week. Captain Wystawnoha taking centre stage with Oliver Bargh propping up the centre and Steven Johnson on the left and Archie Burke to the right - the midfield general's look poised to advance Pennine's unbeaten campaign. Up Top - Thomas ”big engine“ Johnson rallies our attacking troops, taking the first contact a second or two after the referee exhausts his lungs through the chrome plated whistle - 9:30am on the dot, Pennine proceed to gain possession and stamp their ownership on this fixture. Bury look increasingly confident on the ball, first instalment of tackles and passes are confined to the centre of the pitch... A quick combination of Bury passes breaking down the right flank forces Page | 17

Pennine to retreat, defending deep in our own half absorbing countless pressure from Bury's right midfield play maker Number 8 - Pennine apply numerous support and recovery runs especially applied by Steven Johnson and Oliver Bargh to regain possession, using Max Westerman and Liam Thompson to clear down the flanks at times, both competitive teams well balanced and even after 10 mins. The ball breaks free to Bargh deep in his own half, a clever turn leaves Bury's central midfield captain eating dirt, a through ball to Wystawnoha, as he beats 1 with style and grace with head up striding forward with confidence opens up the first long range punt at goal ... The keepers half blinded by the early morning sun - he's fortunate, the balls direction and pace is straight at him, he gathers with confidence...... the next time he won’t be so lucky.... A long deep goal kick puts pressure on our back 3, Wilkinson measures the striker with ease, pushes forward under constant pressure and delivers a ball to Archie Burke ... Quick thinking and decisive control, Archie threads the ball inside to Captain ”Wuzzi“ Wystawnoha- unleashes a second long range effort, it’s on target however, again, not troublesome enough for the keeper to take evasive action - saved. The possession occasionally split between both teams - aggressive at times the boys intent on winning each tackle- this time Thomas Johnson gains possession and neatly finds Archie Burke on the right, quick instincts he fires goal bound - keeper has no chance the ball passing his weaker left side as Archie Burke's shot bulges the netting ... Its 1-0 .... Its complete bedlam, Pennine's supporters treated to a Father and Son goal celebration accolade” I love Dad“the message, loud and clear for all to enjoy as Burke junior lifts his top in celebration...... Senior Burke, Brendan .... Astonished by his sons tribute of affection - stands to applaud his sons fine finish. The first half is fairly even - Bury playing some excellent passing possession football down the right, carving their way repeatedly to Pennine's last 3rd - the only difference, it’s tough to finish when you’re up against Thompson, Wilkinson & Westerman ... Shot after shot went wide or high ... Not challenging Gillard's resolve and no major saves required In the first half. Several goal kicks later - Gillard fires one down the right, Lucas Turner replaces Thomas Johnson up top as Johnson settles in to right Midfield - Archie Burke takes a well-earned rest -" it won't be the last we see of him today". The game opens up slightly as the boys tire before half time, Bury break again down the right they battle and battle through several challenges as the ball strays for corner Bury are not down and out yet, corner deep to the far post as the shot whistles over the bar - a close shave ..... Referee brings the half to a close 1-0 and proving a tough fixture. Half time was not a rest - far from it, a swarm of Gold & Black hum bugs decide to listen to our team talk - boys bolting everywhere Westerman & Wystawnoha turn into health & safety experts and the odd wasp swatting contest from the boys don't help much .... As the Wasp's let us apply our half time review... Nothing to change just more of the same ... Building confidence, keep it simple.... the boys are set for second half glory.... No changes at half time ... Pennine go into action immediately, Wystawnoha beats 1, beats 2, rounds a third , nut megs a fourth has a cup of coffee a quick read of ”Tevez's tactical tricks“book slots the ball through to Oliver Bargh who expertly rounds the keeper and slots home 2-0 ... Bury are dumbfounded of their error - caught sleeping in the second half .....I get a feeling their keeper's going to be busy ... Pennine now have grown in stature with confidence gleaming from every orifice ... quick to pounce as Bury resume play at centre kick .... Johnson brothers pressing hard together as a unit, pushing Bury on the back foot, a quick one two and Steven Johnson is through galloping down the right after a Max Westerman critical challenge, delivers a through ball to the oncoming Oliver Bargh who should score ..... Keeper in prime position deflects the ball for corner. Page | 18

Wystawnoha whips in the perfect outward swinger ..., Bury have little in height as counter measure as Lucus "The Tank" Turner meets with forehead and flick of the neck ... He connects too well as the ball accelerates at a slight upwards angle shaving the bar as Bury gasp - a true let off .... A creative well worked training pitch set piece ( oh yeah !) well worth paying for to witness !! Pennine come forward in the second half and keep possession, a well won header by ever dependable Liam "Tackle" Thompson is collected by Lucus Turner in midfield, funnels the ball sideways to Oliver Bargh who return in favour, Turner takes on one with great strength, balances, looks up, slight shift to his right unleashes an expert, side winding tank busting missile that bruised the ball on contact and whistled between the keeper and cross bar ..... I shouted finish and it didn't disappoint .... A real beauty, top draw, first class ultimate goal ... 3-0 . As Bury withdraw slightly from contact - Pennine seek the opposite ... 100% confidence infiltrate's the entire team - Westerman battles and takes a hard knock from a stamping type tackle ... Gillard comes into action with an excellent parry and quick collection to his right - Bury at times still dangerous, their next attack proves just that .... Clear through the centre, the shot curves past Gillards left into the top corner - a fantastic strike and Gillard has no chance. Pennine don't look as sure ... A strong physical contact tackle by Lucas Turner gives Bury a second opportunity to strike at goal from free kick, the shots weak and cleared through the middle by Ben Wilkinson ... Cleverly adopted by Lucas Turner who again opens up on goal after a quick acceleration, Bury can't recover quick enough and Turner gets his second through sheer determination .... 4-1 Bury's brief confidence quashed - Pennine break down the left with Ben Wilkinson making way for Archie Burke to rejoin the attacking spree ... Pushing the ball through to Steve Johnson on to the byline, whips the ball across goal and as a flash meeting it with concise sliding direction Thomas Johnson neatly provides Pennine's 5th .... 5-1 .... The best well worked team goal of the morning, well worked from defence through Midfield onto top striker an excellent example of team performance at its best - truly magical to watch. The last 3 mins - Bury down and out but not without grace and favour ... Relentlessly battling every cause Bury can hold their heads high... Wystawnoha wins the ball centre spot ... Drifts left to carve a creative ball through to Steven Johnson, plays down to Archie Burke who turns out and back to Steven Johnson in support, Johnson takes a touch inside toward goal to beat the defender on the edge of the goal area, looks up and shoots .... The ball's certain to whistle in the left hand side at head height ... At the last moment of direction, velocity and of sure net busting quality up pops brother Thomas Johnson who expertly flicks the ball goal bound nearly shaving his hair off .... The ball beats the keeper easily 6-1... "Was it a brotherly tactic? , a back garden repetition of play" .... We will never know and I'm sure the boys will never divulge their combination tactics as Thomas claims his second goal.... A lively game - enjoyed by all .... To be truthful the score line was not truly representative of the entire fixture ... If Bury could finish as well as their approach play it may have been a different outcome ... I enjoyed the game, supporters enjoyed the game .... 3 games unbeaten, conceding only 3 goals in 3 Games .... A true team performance and top of the table, unbeaten we stay, ready for the next challenge. Man of the Match Lucas Turner - excellent pressing play when striker, fantastic finishing technique and true recovery when required - well deserved.

Until next week - you think it’s all over - it is now !

22.09.12 Pennine Blacks Vs Whitworth A very cool start to Pennine's home campaign with the first early morning frosts of the year - playing surface temp ....4 Degree C.... Icy....! With blue sky & sun casting shadows over the perfectly maintained pitch - Pennine look more than ready to take on Whitworth Juniors - previously a tough fixture for the boys in 2011 as both teams are quite evenly skilled & always determined to push for victory. With Referee's like the Norden to Rochdale bus service.... "2 turn up for the same fixture the nets built and respect barrier installed by Mrs Gillard, the spectators gather to witness Pennine's second fixture of 2012 in glorious sunshine. Team selection difficult this morning due to the exceptional finish of last week’s game against Syke .... Gillard in position with peaked cap in place has initial defensive protection from Ben Wilkinson in the centre, Liam Thompson to the left and Max Westerman to his right. Battle commenced in Midfield, Capt. Will Wystawnoha straight into Whitworth's central midfield and Thomas Johnson in quick pursuit as Whitworth were pushed back to their defensive line up. Steven Johnson battled and battled - we won numerous tackles but, our passing football had not totally kicked in yet to penetrate Whitworth's Defence. For 5 mins ... The ball remained in the centre of the park until a Archie Burke lay off to Will Wystawnoha, close to the half way line, rounding Whitworth's left midfield took aim and fired to the top left corner .... From 35 yds, Whitworth's keepers gallant effort to track the ball had no chance with the speed and accuracy of the shot .... 1-0 (you won't see many shots better than that this season) As Whitworth's confidence reduced - Pennine picked up the pace and determination.... Our defence camped on the half way line and Gillard had time for a pint or 2.... Liam Thompson and Max Westerman governed the left and right side of our defensive set up.... Westerman winning the ball, taking on 1 then cut down by a frustrated opposition...... Free kick awarded, Lucas Turner stepped up to rocket the ball out of his own half into Whitworth's danger zone ... A scramble pursued until Whitworths keeper came to the rescue again and again to get the ball safe. As Pennine continued to battle hard in Midfield, Will Wystawnoha picked up the ball centre right.... Picked up the decisive forward run of Thomas Johnson who was clear through on goal, as Will pinged the ultimate forward elevated pass the whistle blew..... Referee stopping the play for off-side in a NO off-side 9 a side match ....after explaining the rules of play to the referee, we continued.... Expert passing moves between Johnson & Johnson ( no hair products please!) combining with Archie Burke and Will Wystawnoha .... Lucas Turner released Thomas Johnson into the channel creating the second opportunity, popped to the keepers right - he had no chance..... 2-0 Pennine rampaged on till half time. Whitworth battled valiantly every second of the game ... Continuing to tackle hard to try to break down Pennine's team spirit as each Pennine member fulfilled his role & position. Steve Johnson made way for Oliver Bargh on the left after 20 mins .... Bargh has 2 opportunities to break through and strike immediately... Causing Whitworth to recover further to their defensive line up. Before long, ball at Will Wystawnoha's feet ... Creatively pushing the ball through to Thomas Johnson .... Keeper collecting the ball from the rigging for the 3rd time ... Pennine's skill, possession and quick paced midfield attack proving too strong for Whitworth to counter ... 3-0 as the referee brings the 1st half to a close. Page | 20

At Half time - Pennine's team talk was predictably.... Not much the boys needed to change .... Keep up the good work and don't let Whitworth get comfortable on the ball... No injuries or substitutions at half time. The second half continued with excellent procession football ... Chris Gillard completing 40 winks, opens his eyes and the grass has grown a little, surveys the play in front of him and decides to sleep again .... With Lucas Turner switching to defence as Liam Thompson leaves the field of play after numerous tackles, defensive headers and recovery runs, deserves his rest after an exemplary performance as Steven Johnson returns to play. Pennine continue the barrage of attacks ... Ben Wilkinson receiving the ball on the half way line, takes on Whitworths striker with pace, rounds left midfield with grace and opens fire from 30 yds.... The penetrating shot is equally matched by Whitworth’s keepers reaction - tipping the ball over the bar ... I was sure that was Pennine's 4th.... The resulting corner put Whitworth under constant pressure, ball cleverly worked to the line by Oliver Bargh...a neat cross met by Thomas Johnson from outside the box smashed to the keepers left...partly stopped but continued to trickle past the post.... 4-0. With 5 minutes left.... Whitworth bravely continued as a team still intent on scoring ... A couple of break's in the second required Chris Gillard's quick action, stampeding out of the goal to clear with confidence kept Pennine on top however, Pennine have to be careful not to stretch play too much and be out of position and can't recover. Max Westerman's excellent tackle, drive and forward line pass to Archie Burke that was excellently controlled down the right and expertly delivered inside as Will Wystawnoha wound up that faithful right foot shot.... As Archie Burke and Thomas Johnson continued their run into the penalty area... Ball looping between the boys having been flicked on by Thomas Johnson, skims Archie Burke's boy band hair look and into the top corner..... After careful consideration of multiple replays it was decisive ... Awarded to Thomas Johnson to complete his hat-trick! Pennine 5 - 0 Whitworth. The last 3mins totally opens play ... Lucus Turner collecting the ball in his own half.... Trick after trick, weaves round 1, holds off another and releases the big gun.... The ball whistling past the left upright as Whitworth's keeper thankfully looked to the heavens that he'd not had to intervene.... Whitworth finished with grace.... A truly magnificent game played without tension or argument.... A true reflection of supporters and parents graceful attitude and respect for the game. Notable Mentions this week : Thomas Johnson - hat-trick Man of the Match - Will Wystawnoha An excellent team performance - 2 games unbeaten .... Keep up the good work.

15.09.12 Syke Juniors Vs. Pennine black. - Queens Park Road Saturday 15th September approaches, a bright, warm summers morning awaits the start of Pennine Blacks under 11s 9 a side football season. Syke Juniors, a previously unknown opposition in the Championship, a former winner of the Peel division and with a previous week’s 4-0 demolition of Littleborough this opposition could prove difficult to overcome. Pennine Blacks team set up for our first 9 a side competitive match has been restructured from 7 a side format - a few challenging position selections to trial our strategy of possession based drive and attack football, with extra focus on support and recovery, formulate a team around Midfield general and captain Will Wystawnoha. Pre kick off warm up stimulates player’s reaction and physical awakening (get out of bed syndrome) makes an impact on these young boys athletic prowess- as Syke struggle to wrestle with the Crypton Factor goal / net construction challenge. Pennine focus on the job in hand on a monstrous sized pitch fit for 11 a side puberty laden teenagers.... The boys will need their lungs this morning!! As Chris Gillard takes position between the uprights the sunshine breaks through sporadic cloud cover to commence a late 11am kick off. Playing up hill - Pennine had their work cut out for the first 5 minutes, continuously under pressure and at times unwilling to challenge with positive attitude, our 50/50 opportunities rarely won. With most of the combat in the middle of the park, Stevie Johnson on the left, Archie Burke on the right and the paring of Oliver Bargh and Will Wystawnoha holding centre battles commenced. Syke having the upper hand, winning tackles through a sleepy Pennine defence Chris Gillard was soon in action parrying a decisive drive out for corner. Our defensive trio built around summer signing, towering skilful defensive maestro Lucus Trainer and supported on the right by ever dependable Ben Wilkinson and on the left, a further new recruit Liam Turner showing natural defensive skill and aerial prowess. After 9 mins referee had no choice to award a free kick for an accidental hand ball 25 yards out. Pennine's wall trio set up to guard the near post and being joined by a physical approach from Syke Juniors number 7 pushing the wall sideways as the free kick commenced created the opening into the danger area, the following scramble went Syke's way resulting in a soft shot crossing the line .... Down 1-0. Syke gained confidence and momentum in the first half - at times playing some nice forward movement football piercing through our deep defensive midfield, threading diagonal passing to catch our defence on the back foot and without marking the run into the channel it was soon strike number 2, a hard drive right of Chris Gillard ..... 2-0. Pennine at times demonstrated excellent possession, through support play and an up-hill struggle also drove Syke to defensive play.... 3 or 4 chances landed to our strike force, alone up front Thomas Johnson, supported on the left by brother Steven proved a brotherly pair difficult to stop. Chance after chance saved by Syke's prolific shot stopper ended the first 30 mins for drinks and the loss of Will Wystawnoha to a clumsy challenge gave an opening to introduce Thomas Laidler on the right side of midfield for 10mins before half time ... 2-0.

Half time was tough on the lug holes for Pennine Blacks - having delivery skill, possession and drive... Pennine were lacking that last ingredient "DESIRE" ... With the 2nd half looming, coach and manager changed the line-up introducing Max Westerman to the defensive line up, moving Ben Wilkinson to centre half and Lucus Trainer to take centre stage in Midfield, providing Archie Burke a well-earned rest we were set for a tough 2nd half with a downhill advantage. It wasn't long for Pennine to display their craft ... Training ground commitment and some very encouraging recovery runs displayed Pennines true creative football approach. Oliver Bargh and the Johnson brothers combining a trio of passes soon broke down Sykes resolve.... Penetrating possession football in the second half with Syke pinned down in their half, without counter measure to get out of trouble, the pressure relentlessly took hold. Our defence camped in the Syke half - Ben Wilkinson, Max Westerman and Liam Turner continued a barrage of winning tackles and 50/50 combat positions demonstrating that holding role to support our onward assault. As Will Wystanoha joined the second half in Strike position due to injury as Lucas Trainer rested - Thomas Johnson filled in the centre of midfield, our technical approach broke down a weary Syke right hand side, finally to the touch line as Will Wystawnoha craftily created a shot from a difficult angle.... 2-1 and game on! It may sound bias ... However, the continued onslaught of Pennine's 2nd half attacks put Syke into meltdown ....only 1 Syke counter attack brought Chris Gillard into action displaying an acrobatic 1 handed elevated save to his right, cleared down the line by Max Westerman to give Pennine a cutting through ball for Oliver Bargh's 1 on 1 with the keeper... A save, follow up shot by Thomas Johnson threaded the ball home .... 2-2 Syke defended and defended for the last 5 mins.... Continuously under pressure and keeper under fire as Pennine displayed the "DESIRE" requested of them at half time .... 2-2 a lucky point retained by Syke or 2 points easily given away by Pennine's first halfs ...half-hearted display. For sure ... Next week’s fixture against Littleborough at home must be started with a desirable attitude. Man to mention ... Man of the match ... Steven Johnson, from leading the attack to defensive support play and incredulous recovery runs ... Steven displayed the attitude, skill and dedication of a mature player - and excellent to watch at times .... Keep it up Stevie! A true reflection - 2nd half displayed excellent individual commitment but the team also came together to demonstrate their true footballing ability - exhilarating to watch!
