Latest Match report: 16.02.13 Whitworth Valley v Pennine Yellows This was another Banana Skin avoided by the lads. Whitworth traditionally are an inconsistent team and on their day can beat anyone, and do often. Back to a warmer match day and later kick off time that really suits the team. This time the lads started really well playing some fast flowing football, an early breakthrough shook off the nerves with a classic finish from Morgan from a superb cross delivered perfectly from Dominic. Soon after, another great corner from Corey saw Gino headed strongly into the net. Another quick addition to the score enabled our effective squad rotation to come into effect, giving players a chance to rotate positions and secure valued playing experience. This culminated in Jack Green and Alex Wilcock really shining and in the end sharing a much deserved men of the match awards; Further goals from Corey Hamza and Morgan sealed a nice win on a good day to play football. Long may our position at the top of the table remain ………………………There is no reason the lads can’t do it! We all believe they can. Peter Lee & Darren
Previous match reports: 09.02.13 Radcliffe Borough B v Pennine Yellows This was a game where both managers thought they had the game in the bag, but walked off with a point a piece And wondered what could have been. The started quite slowly for the yellows, has befitting of an early 9.30am Ko. The lads warmed up with some trade mark flowing football from the back through a strong midfield and the move finished off well by a strike from Max just avoiding the goalkeeper’s fingertips; a second goal soon followed from Corey; The game changed with a delayed decision switch by the ref that ended up with a dubious penalty for handball; which was well saved by George Crabtree, poetic justice was served. Further chances went unconverted from the Yellows, Just before half time another penalty was awarded as Jakey Chased down his long standing challenge in Wesley, the ref gave a penalty for intent for the challenge, and this time George just failed to make the second great penalty save. Radcliffe then went into the ascendency and quickly notched a further Four goals in 19 mins. Our lack of previous matches began to tell, however this season, the Yellows are not going down without a fight, with changes to the team we began to close down again and put the hard legwork in, this reaped quick rewards with goals from Hamza who worked his proverbial off. The last six minutes belonged entirely to the Yellows with waves of attacks that netted a fourth, the team could sense a final twist and the persistence of Callum was duly rewarded after a great header from Page | 4
Gino was calmly slotted home. Great reward for the work and effort put in from the team. The first leg of a title deciding five game battle against Unsworth Radcliffe Westbury and of course our own Blacks.
10.11.12 Pennine Yellows v Prestwich Town Lads Back to a warmer match day and later kick off time that really suits the team. Again, a slow start from the lads they eventually got on the front foot. Inspired with the now hallmark slick passing moves that generates the scoring opportunities across the team. The lads are really making great strides in playing the right way and as a result will continue to improve and the more time they spend together the better they will get as a team. The first goal was generated with a move from Jake getting Callum in on the right, beating one man, looking up and putting a great ball into the path of Hamza who coolly slotted home. After ten minutes, another great move, involving, Adam, Patrick, Alex, Hamza and then, returning the compliment for Morgan who despatched the ball to the goalkeepers’ right. It is always nice to introduce a great new player to the team, after the success Patrick is showing, I am very happy to introduce Daniel Nevin, who brings with him the experience of playing at a high level who wishes to continue to improve and develop his game further. It is a great opportunity for the coaching staff to have such good young talent to work with and this goes for all the players now in our squad. With having a team and squad consisting of fifteen players, it does put everyone on their toes. The good thing is that everyone wants to play; it is our job to maintain the shape and formation of the team, irrespective of which eleven from the fifteen that play. So it is good to have the luxury of being able to bring on Daniel, Jack, Corey and Max and still maintain the quality and overall shape of the team. It was two of the subs that linked up to score the third goal. An outstanding pass from our keeper, who in our opinion with further development should grow into the best keeper of his age group; collected by Max who left his marker with a great turn, attacked the full back, created the time and space to look up and slot a lovely pull back which Corey duly punched home with a great strike. Corey then followed up with a good finish from a well-worked move from our now dominant midfield. Best wishes go to Prestwich for the remainder of the season who showed in parts the potential of a much better team. Thank you for the continued support of the Parents, which numbers have now been increased with the additions of Glen ( Daniels Dad ) and Andrew and Deborah ( Patricks parents ) Just to note that at all games we will have hot drinks available, to help get through those chilly mornings to come. Long may our position at the top of the table remain ………………………There is no reason the lads can’t do it! We all believe they can. Peter Lee & Darren

03.11.12 Bacup v Pennine Yellows Always a difficult fixture up in them there hills, in winter, when the wind blows and snow starts to fall. Some of the lads really felt the cold (time for thermal leg-ins guys). After a slow start we gradually asserted and got our passing game together, and generated the chances Morgan revels in, finishing well to collect another hat trick. A special mention to the much strengthened and improved Adam Rushton who tackling at the back screening the defence and creating the forward impetus. Chipping in with his regular goal was Corey, sealing a great victory. All the lads are playing really well and must take added confidence not just from the result but the continued overall team performance.
20.10.12 Pennine Yellows v Westbury Hurricanes We are putting a collective match report for the previous three games; A competent 4 – 2 Victory against Whitworth maintaining the teams progress at the beginning of the season. Morgan and Callum both hitting the back of the net again, putting together a great strike partnership for the early part of the season; the lads followed this victory with a disappointing performance against Ramsbottom, unfortunately the curse of an early kick off hitting the players’ performance. We will have to work out a way of combatting these early morning kick offs’. Now the next game against Bacup, normally a very combative game, but this match witnessed some unsporting behaviour from some of the Bacup parents that really needs to be eradicated from junior football, steps are being taken to ensure that no future repeat conduct of this nature will be witnessed at a match involving our team. Back to the important aspect of the game, a solid performance from all of the team highlighted by an outstanding display of goalscoring from Morgan putting four goals past the Bacup keeper, with other goals from Callum and Max securing a fantastic 6 – 0 hard fought victory. Special thanks to Darren Wilcock, Paul Hill and Keith Ellis for taking care of the team in my and lee’s absence during these three games securing 7 points and maintaining our position of top of the league. We would like to extend our welcome to the team of Patrick Clarke who capped his debut on Saturday with the match winning goal scored after a well put together series of good passes culminating in a cool finish from Patrick who impressed with his skill, control and overall first game performance. The team managed to shirk off the curse of the early morning kick off, hopefully a remedy that we all hope will continue. Special note to George Crabtree who managed to maintain our lead with a strong hand save from a penalty kick. His goalkeeping performances are improving with each game allied to this the really well marshalled defence with Gino, Dominic and George continuing their fantastic early season form. Further midfield displays from Hamza, Jack, Adam, Corey and Jake with Patrick adding to the talent we have in the middle of the pitch. The striking combination of Morgan, Callum, Alex and Max is fulfilling the team’s hard work and commitment they are showing in training. If the lads continue with their progress through the winter, a rewarding league position will be their just deserves! A date is being set for the KFC night for all the lads as a reward from the coaching team for their efforts this season. Peter Lee & Darren
22.09.12 Pennine Blacks v Pennine Yellows derby

An expectorant crowd had gathered to watch the first league match between the Blacks and the Yellows. The weather and pitch conditions were again ideal for the game. After a tense start from the yellows, the Blacks took the early initiative would some slick passing moves; Steve K had a shot blocked in the middle of the goals with an instinctive save from George Crabtree. Jack Kershaw was having a lot of space on the wing but was missing the distribution from his defence and fellow midfielders. Bailey was tied down well with a man-man marking job by Jakey N. A goal from the Blacks was cancelled out for an offside decision, there were few more chances as the Yellows picked up their game and commenced some good passing movements from the well drilled defence of the Yellows, from this came the first and best opportunity from the Yellow’s. A good ball down the right from George Highton to Alex Wilcock linking well with Morgan and Hamzah, a chip was placed for Callum to run onto a good shot was matched with a good block from Danny Roseberry, Callum was eager and reacted well to the rebound and slotted home under Danny. The second Half saw the Yellows coming out of the blocks with more tenacity and belief. They began to move the ball around as they have been achieving in all their matches this season. A great move created from the middle with Corey and Hamzah now beginning to dominate the midfield well supported by a reinvigorated Alex Wilcock, Morgan and Adam Rushton holding the base of the midfield together. Again great link up play ended with Hamzah breaking into the middle of the Blacks defence with an obvious burst of pace and netted coolly between the keepers legs. This was enough to spur the blacks into a greater number of attacks, and a new sense of urgency, the Yellows were under pressure but were held together by a hard working midfield and well drilled defence of George H Gino and Dominic, and the ever imposing George Crabtree in goal. The yellows were now playing on the break but looking still more dangerous in front of goal with Morgan just shooting wide with a great opportunity to put the match to bed for the Yellows. Blacks now pushing ever forward to get back into the game, their opportunity was soon created with a move on the right, this led to a cross coming over and the ever alert Bailey getting on the end to meet it at the same time as George Crabtree but somehow squeezing past to give the Blacks a chance to come back in the game. The pressure was increased from the Blacks whilst ever more dangerous breaks being created by the yellows. With 9 Mins remaining the Blacks got their slice of luck when a shot came in at George’s goal but got a big deflection to beat the keeper’s dive to level it at 2 – 2. Yellow hearts sank whilst the fire in the Blacks increased. But the Yellows are made of great resolve this season; the yellows pushed forward with menace and the break came through with 5 mins to go. A move created in the middle with Jakey winning the ball and bringing in Max on the left smart interchange involving Morgan and Alex led to space in the middle for Callum to unleash a shot that rattled the bar - 1966 all over again, but there was no Russian linesman to save the Yellow’s, however coming in at the far post was Max to save the debate and pushed the ball firmly into the net, the whole of the Yellows erupted in delight at the prospect of re-taking the match with the two subs on the side also joining in the celebrations. The question was could the Black’s come back one more time? and, was how long was left. Nerves were jangling on both sides, there was one last opportunity for the blacks with a series of corners at the end, fortunately for the yellows, and again well defended by the whole team, they managed to keep the Blacks out. With injury time running

into “Fergie” time for the Yellows there was one final icing to the cake. Another fast break led to Corry slotting home to make the Yellows day complete. The winner on the day was Pennine football who’s two under 14’s teams both playing their part in a great game of football enjoyed by all who watched, but I suppose more so for the Yellows. This victory will add even more belief to this fast improving group of players who make up into a great team. It would be nice if at the end of the season the club could announce that Pennine have two “A” Teams for the next season playing in the same league. Thanks again to all the parents for their support and the Coaches Darren and Paul for their well appreciated help in developing the players and making the Yellows the team they have now become. Well done lads you deserve it Peter & Lee
08.09.12 Pennine v Rossendale Valley A great start to the new season, fine weather and playing on a superb playing surface at Hopwood. The players began strongly, making a pleasant change as normally we begin slower than Rochdale. The players moved the ball around the pitch very well stretching a strong looking Rossendale team. Playing with George Highton who improves with every game, the ever dependable Gino Palombo and making up the superb back three Dominic McConnell. Marshalled from the goals by the ever growing and score if you can - or dare attitude from George Crabtree. Our midfield has been strengthened this year with the key additions in the transfer window of Hamzah Asim and Corey Hill. Who will, with time, even if it kills me, make up the midfield as like having two” Paul Scholes’s” on the team. Adding to this the two terriers like players of Callum Barrow and the “I will tackle anything “Little Jakey. The defensive shield of Jack Green makes for a really strong and skilful midfield diamond. Playing on the wide right area is Alex Wilcock who can deliver those pull back crosses for Morgan Stubbs to add to his ever increasing goals tally for the yellows; contributing with another two on Saturday. The whole team managed to maintain their movement and great passing combinations to create the pressure for an own goal from a determined Rossendale outfit. The match was well refereed by Sam Halligan and played in a great sprit from both teams. My thanks go out too our coaching staff Darren Wilcock and Paul Hill – keep it going boys – It is always nice for the lads to put on a performance to show everyone the improvements they are making, keep it up! - Good luck for the rest of the season to Rossendale Valley.
