Pennine Red vs E &W Cheetahs

The game started well, Craig had done a fantastic job priming the team for what may well be there last game of the season. Harry showed his fantastic skill dribbling the ball round the opposition with ease; strong support from an impressive midfield of Zach, Abdullah, Evan and Ethan indicated that a goal from Pennine was imminent and sure enough the 1st goal was claimed by Finlay who produced a strong run down the right wing and finished with a fantastic strike. Pennine continued to push hard but Cheetahs managed to score a goal from a corner, made easier by the fact the keeper, despite his best efforts, were unable to see the ball coming. Following a half time team talk and a fresh down pour of rain the team got back into their stride. Ethan played out of skin in midfield challenging every ball and was rewarded with a great assist when he set-up Evan who blasted the ball in the back of the net to put Pennine back in the lead at 2:1. When the game restarted Cheetahs proved they weren’t done and forced Pennine to concede a corner from which they scored an equaliser through a defensive error. Clearly Pennine needed to work hard to claim this scalp. However it wasn’t long before Ethan produced a great through ball to allow Harry the chance to demonstrate his skills by dribbling the ball through the oppositions defence to score a great goal 3:2. Pennine were clearly on the road to victory and it wasn’t long before Evan made their keeper suffer for a poor goal kick by smashing home a fourth goal from the edge of the area. Cheetahs were down and out; all that remained was for Pennine to notch up their goal tally. A shot from Harry went wide which left the keeper to pick up the ball and kick it beyond the pack of wolves that had gathered on the edge of the goal area, again the keeper failed, Evan picked up the ball and executed a shot with fine precision to make it 5:2. The rain really did not help Cheetahs cause and it was evident they now just wanted to go home however they managed one last attack that was thwarted by a great tackle by Abdullah followed by a great up field ball to allow Evan to score his hatrick.

Summary A great finish to the season, a totally changed side in every way from that team wearing those large shorts against Littleborough way back. This team understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses and can demonstrate a good level of skill in the many aspects of the game. This team understand that just turning up for training on a Friday is not enough, they know that kicking a ball whenever the opportunity presents itself is a given. They know that when a player goes down injured the game is stopped and the referee called, they know that when the final whistle blows they shake the hands of the opposition, they know that when you strap on your boot’s and walk on the field nothing else is important, they know that as long as they give 100% the result is not important but most importantly they know they play for Pennine Red and always will. On behalf of Craig and myself I’d like to thank all the parents for their support this season and many more to come.

Pennine Red vs Walshaw SC

The first half of this game was proof that although this bunch of cheeky monkey’s that drive Craig and I insane are actually listening to us and are clearly a very talented bunch of players. We showed that we can pass the ball around and stay in position very well, again Max and Finn proved a solid defence backed up by Henrik in goal. Evan, Ethan and Abdullah proved an impressive mid field and provided Harry with some great opportunities sadly denied by the Walshaw defence. The structure of the team changed in the second half and Walshaw managed to take advantage. After going a goal down 5 minutes in to the 2nd half Pennine seemed to have the wind taken out of there sails, still Zach Needham and Ethan Stewart produced some brilliant individual skill. Although we conceded another 2 goals to give a 3:0 final score line Craig and I were very impressed with the teams performance. Summary A great performance lacked a little structure in the 2nd half but nothing to be concerned about. Very soon someone is going to be on the receiving end of this team and its not going to be pretty, there’s a lot of talent in this team. 20.04.13

Westbury Jets U7 Football Tournament

Pennine reds were put alongside Westbury Jets / Cheetham Hill / Ratcliffe Aces / Mauraders / Roch Orange Westbury vs Pennine Red Given that we played Westbury Jets and lost both fixtures we were out to prove ourselves and even though the game only lasted 7 minutes we took the game to them and although the final score was 0.0 we played very good on all parts of the field. Cheetham Hill vs Pennine Red The most important aspect of this game was to get into the game quickly and not concede a goal given the duration of the games. Again we attacked and defended well and Henrik produced some great saves. A tough fought game produced another 0.0 result Ratcliff Aces In between games we had watched this team and they looked very organised, so we needed to make the most of the opportunities presented and 3 minutes in Harry scored a fantastic free kick to put us 1:0 up. Ratcliff came at us with everything and some great performances especially by Max Collins in defence kept them at bay, sadly a last second through ball followed by a great finish gave Ratcliff the draw. Page | 5

Mauraders vs Pennine Red We decided to experiment this game as it was a non-competitive tournament and put Evan in net, Abdullah striker and move Finn into midfield, No excuses here but the players couldn’t get used to there position within 7 minutes, no fault of the team. I’m not going to say any more about this game because it wasn’t pleasant still we only lost 1:0 and given time I’m sure we could have turned it around. Roch Orange vs Pennine Red The Last game and a very good performance, although I do think that some of the players looked a bit tired. Evan covered some good ground in midfield and like many members of the team have continued to develop every week, Zach showed some fantastic ball control sadly some great defensive work denied him a goal. Roch managed to drive a good corner which was sadly put in the net by Henry a very unfortunate error which is not to be dwelled upon. Final score 1:0 to Roch Orange Summary A really good tournament that all the players and parents enjoyed. Well done to Westbury and North Bury Football for inviting Pennine U7’s 13.04.13

Westbury Jets v Pennine Reds

The previous training session Craig and I had been working on man marking and positional awareness and given the performance of the last meeting with Jets I believed this would be a good game and the team didn’t disappoint. The first half performance was sublime, Finlay and Max held a strong defence and Zach and Evan looked sharp supported well by Ethan and Abdullah. Finlay produced a brilliant through ball to provide Zach with a good opportunity to score but by sheer luck the ball bounced off one post along the line to the other post to the deny the Reds. Evan produced some great midfield performances covering the whole field. Although Jets managed to score to go a goal up the Reds displayed great style. The 2nd half saw Westbury score another 3 goals from set pieces. Zach managed to claim a goal back and there was also some near misses from Abdullah, Evan and Harry. In Summary a great game in which the result didn’t reflect the performance. Craig and I agreed that this was a much improved side 06.04.13

Pennine Reds v Littleborough

I was looking forward to this game as this was the first team Pennine played and we lost 4:1 therefore this would be a good gauge of how much the team had progressed. The game began well with some great ball movement from Evan and Zach however it wasn’t long before Littleborough showed their hand as the executed a superb cross to go a goal up. This goal seemed to completely break the confidence of the team and it wasn’t long before another 2 goals followed. In the 2nd half we had to stress upon the defence to man mark and not just chase the ball but sadly Littleborough were just to good and the final score line ended 5.0 an all time low and a poor reflection on myself.

Page | 6

In summary it is evident that the players need to focus on positional play and not just running for the ball which I’m sure can be sorted on the training ground

30.03.13

Pennine Reds v Westbury Jets

A much organised team came at Pennine and sadly the caught us out of shape. Within the first 8 minutes we were 2.0 down and Craig and I were desperately trying to organise the team from the side line but with no real effect. In the 2nd half the team started to get more possession and were rewarded with an excellent goal by Harry this increased the confidence of the team who were now doing a lot of man marking to prevent any further goals. The Jets really were on their back feet and were lucky to walk away with a win when Zach was inches away from finishing a great cross by Ethan. In summary a poor start but a confident finish 16.03.13

Pennine Reds v Cheetham Hill Boys

Pennine came out pretty strong and played a defensive game to begin with. As the black team played these lads the previous week we knew they had some pretty strong players. The team held up well against a continued attack with some sublime goalkeeping from Henrik Roach. However after 10 minutes a minor keeping error gave Cheetham Hill a lucky goal. The opposition were quick to capitalise on this and despite a few efforts by Harry up front put another goal away on the 15th minute. At this stage during the game the team realised they could pull a result out if they upped their game a little and so it wasn’t long before Evan put in a corner and following a scramble Finn managed to release a ball to Zach who scored to put Pennine back in the game just before half time. The 2nd half was a much closer game the defence were tasked with man marking 2 of their prolific players which they did with good effect. Cheetham Hill were on their back now and it wasn’t long before Harry got through their defence and put a shot on target which was hand balled to give Pennine a great opportunity to get back into the game. Evan stood up for the penalty and bingo 2:2. Cheetham Hill knew they had to pull something out of the bag but were unable to do so through the fantastic work by Henrik. During the next 5 minutes Cheetham Hill gave a big push and was rewarded with a penalty which they missed, 2 minutes left and Harry produced a fantastic run down the wing followed by a shoot that got deflected away from goal by one of their defenders. In the final minutes of the game their keeper picked up the ball and managed to find one of their attackers who sadly managed to put a shot in to the back of our net – disaster !!! A great game that could have gone either way really but a fair result, well done the Reds

09.03.13

Ratcliff Bulls v Pennine Red

This game started off very even and Pennine had to work hard to keep possession. The team seemed to get bogged down chasing the ball rather than holding position which nearly cost us a goal. The game progressed and the team managed to get organised, shortly followed by a well driven corner that Ethan skilfully managed to put into the back of the net. The reds capitalised on this good fortune and applied more pressure resulting in forcing their goalkeeper mis-kicking the ball which Harry swiftly jumped on to make it 2.0 by half time. The team came out in the 2nd half knowing they could score more if they kept position and passed the ball to one another. Ratcliff had clearly been Page | 7

given a good pep talk as they hadn’t given up and were going for gold however, Evan executed a free kick brilliantly to put Pennine firmly in command. Daniel Wilson was also rewarded with a goal following a notable performance in both Defence and in midfield. Although Ratcliff didn’t give and managed to claw back a goal Pennine produced a commanding performance. Evan Finnerty’s performance was noted by a scout from Accrington Stanley however due to his age he is unavailable for selection

18.11.12

Whitworth Hornets v Pennine Reds

Pennine picked up where they left off and immediately took the game to Whitworth. There were some noticeable improvements in performance by Max and Ethan who put up a great defence, after 5 minutes Henrik scored with great short range goal. Hornets appeared to be weakening but just before half time managed equalise. 3 substitutions were made at half time and 2 minutes in to the 2nd half Evan smashed a shot from the half way line to make it 2:1. Pennine immediately reformed and held off every attack, this could not be said of Hornets though, Harry, Evan, Henry & Zach were too much to handle and it wasn’t long before Evan claimed his hat-trick. The next goal came from a well worked manoeuvre between Zach & Harry with Zach scoring to make it 5:1. Hornet’s keeper could not contain the rejuvenated Pennine strike force and following Hornets own goal Evan planted another long range shot to make it 7:1. As coach watching the team play in this form was a joy for Craig and I. The team had clearly made great strides in all aspects of their game and to top it off Evan smashed home another 2 goals to give himself a tally of 6 goals in a single match – final score 9:1. Observations: The most memorable moment of the game was when the players went straight to the Hornets keeper at the end of the game to shake hands – true respect and sportsmen 11.11.12

Pennine v Walshaw Whites

The team had not played for some time going into this game, which I why I did not call off training even though it was throwing it down. Come Saturday the team were fired up. Craig and I agreed that we would start a policy of making all the substitutions at half time. It was evident that the opposition were a force to be reckoned with but Pennine were holding firm, it wasn’t long before Evan got hold of the ball and struck a great shot to score a killer goal – 1.0. The team continued to test the opposition and the next goal game from Henry who managed to get on the end of Evan’s corner. Now Pennine were really in their stride and Harry put away a goal from superb individual build up. Half time and – naturally none of the team want to come off, they’ve got the bit between their teeth. The 2nd half was no time for relaxing either, Walshaw were desperate to take something from this game sadly for them Pennine were having none of it, and in no time at all Harry put away a great goal set up by Zach. 4.0 we’re on fire, the defence is bullet proof and the midfield is getting stronger and the combination of Harry and Zach is unstoppable 5 minutes from time Harry claimed his hat trick in style with a well worked goal. Great result for the squad – you may have gathered through reading this report that I am enthusiastic, well that’s because I love this team they deserved the victory.

Page | 8

Observations: The formation of 1,2,3,1 is working well – only comment is to work on set pieces such as corners and throw- ins. Next week we’re playing Whitworth Hornets – there pitch is not as good as ours, which given the rain we had, is amazing

29.09.12:

Pennine Reds v Unsworth Juniors

As the black team had lost 4:2 against this team 3 weeks ago we were well aware that Unsworth was a much organised team and not to be underestimated. Considering the performances of the reds last 3 games I was concerned but not worried. Craig and I decided to play Harry upfront as a loan striker and a 3 man midfield backed up with a 2 man defence, Ethan was keeper for the first half and displayed a natural ability for keeping sadly Unsworth caught us on the break and opened there account. Harry managed to get through there midfield a few times but sadly Unsworth have a girl called Matilda who marked Harry like glue. The game progressed and Unsworth applied more pressure and despite a firm defence by Finlay and Daniel they scored again. In the 2nd half we swapped keepers and Daniel went in net and Ethan played in midfield, the wind was in our favour now and Pennine really did turn the table on Unsworth , Evan clearly was determined to win man of the match covered every blade of grass and was rewarded with a penalty which he executed fantastically. Pennine knew by now that if they continued this onslaught a goal would come and again Evan gave it his best and produced a great shot only to be denied by the post. Noticeable Performances: Henry – First appearance Harry – great player can tax any defence given opportunity Evan (M.o.M) – Good all round player and good kicker of the ball Daniel – Good defender and good Goal Keeper In summary Unsworth were a very good side and deserved to win because of their ability to stay organised and hold position. These aspects of the game at this level are the key to success on the field.

22.09.12

Bridge Colts v Pennine Red

This was always going to be a tough game however the previous games had shown that the team had the talent to do ourselves proud and , despite the score line, we did not disappoint. Colts came at us very strong and by half time we were 4:1 down. This did nothing to dampen the spirit of the team, which is now bonding together and supportive, and following the introduction of Ethan in net and a few words of advice we pulled it back to 4:3. Then we gave away an over enthusiastic penalty 5:3 and off the back of this Colts managed to score (and it has to be said - a great goal) making it 6:3 Page | 9

but Pennine weren’t done yet and Abdullah managed to put in a fantastic goal with 5 minutes to go – 6:4 game on Colts were on their back feet and Pennine had the run of the field sadly they held. The formation of 1,2,2,2 was very effective however work is required on using as much of the pitch as possible. The most important observation of this game was that every player walked off the pitch knowing they’d enjoyed a good game as a team and eager to play again. 15.09.12:

Whitworth v Pennine Reds

A very close game with some excellent individual performances sadly the result really reflects the manager’s mistake in substituting the wrong players at the wrong time which exposed weak points in the team. This is a painful admission given that we went in at half time at 1:1 and could have taken the game. The team are showing improvements in basic skills such as corner taking, maintaining a defensive line and passing the ball up field.

08.09.12

Pennine Reds v Littleborough

Once all the team exchanged there men’s medium shorts for boy’s medium shorts the Pennine Juniors under 7 red team took the pitch for the first time. Each individual member of the team played very well and given that this was the first game of the season it was evident that the players were over excited – not to be knocked really. The team did not really know what to expect and were adjusting to their positions. The team need to work on positional awareness and practice set pieces like corners, throw ins and free kicks. Littleborough appeared to be well organised and disciplined and just kept the ball in our half. Harry demonstrated some very good ball control and clearly is not afraid of taking on the opposition however, as said earlier Pennine didn’t get the ball in there half as much as we should.
