Everything! Seeing players get better but then annoyingly see Danny Dale nick them all! What do you find challenging when managing a team? Kids listening!! What has been your funniest/best/ most memorable moment? My first ever game. We played Woodbank Reds at Nuttall Park. We were fantastic and won 4 -2. Even the trains didn’t put us off that day. Describe your team: Energetic , hardworking and all round great kids. What are you focusing on in training? Everything, but defending at the moment! Tell us the best game to date and why: The last game, we played Walshaw Whites away. We ended up losing 3 -2 but it was the best we have ever played. It’s nice to see all the training pays off. I still can’t believe we lost. If we play like that every time I will be happy a manager! What advice/tips would you give to young, up and coming footballers? Enjoy yourself and always listen to your manager!!!!

Latest Match report: 11.05.13 Chaddy Lions 3 – 1 Pennine Reds This was our last game of the season. So I thought it was time for some changes. I wanted the players to experience different positions. So I had 4 different keepers in Oliver, Jake.M, Josh and Ellie. Defenders were moved Jai, Matthew and Charles all had a chance up front. It was an awful day for football. Raining very hard on the biggest pitch of the season. We kicked off playing some nice football. Matthew started up front and Oliver went in goal both doing good jobs. We changed it midway through with Jake.M in goal and Jai up front. Again both playing well but Jai working tirelessly up front to get the goal we needed. This game was a midfield battle with few chances. A chance did come though through Chaddy who put a nice ball in the box and finish in the net, 1-0. Half time 1-0. A good result to go in half time 1-0. To be fair should have been a draw, but never mind. We were going to come out fighting. Another change in Josh in goal and Charles up front. The changes were working and all players were giving their all. We got our reward for all our hard work, with great goal form Oliver, 1-1. It was getting to be more open in the second half with children getting very cold and tired. We changed it again with Jake. M going back to a more favourable role and Ellie in goal. A couple of minutes later Chaddy had a shot which Ellie couldn’t see and sneaked in, 2-1. We went looking for the goal with a couple of great chances falling to Jake. M but just going wide. With about 2 minutes to go we went looking but the ball fell nicely for Chaddy who went through to finish, 3-1. Final whistle 3-1. We played well not really getting the result we deserved. The changes worked with everyone getting a chance to play in different positions. Man of the match went to Jai for working really hard and closing Chaddy down, only thing missing was the goal. Thank you everyone for a good season. I have really enjoyed myself. A few results should have gone our way but that’s football. We will come back stronger and better next year. Hope you have enjoyed it as much as Tony and myself.

Previous match reports: 29.04.13 Westbury Tigers 2 – 1 Pennine Juniors Reds Well this was our 3rd game in 5 days, now we know what Manchester United have to do now! We only had 8 players available with Bilal, Charles and Jai missing. We knew it would be a good game as we drew them 2 – 2 last time. We were ready and started the game really well with Pennine on the attack from the off. Jake.M having a couple of early opportunities but just going wide of the mark. We were playing well but Westbury won a corner which they put into the box, a bit of a scramble but unfortunately coming off Olivia to make it, 1-0. Never mind we knew we could get back if we carried on attacking and closing them down like we were. We played a couple of lovely through balls to Jake.M and Josh but Westbury were defending for their lives. Eventually Oliver laid a ball through to Jake.M where he took it down the right and from a narrow angle smacked it right into the goal, what a goal!!!! 1-1. This was just what we deserved. Westbury to their credit came at us but Jake. I was up to the task. Then another corner for Westbury came in from the left for their number 5 to make a bullet head in the goal, 2-1. Half time 2-1. The 2nd half kicked off and we were asleep they went straight through had shot but just going wide. Westbury weren’t sitting back on their lead, they kept coming and coming and coming, but with some fine work from Matthew, Olivia and Jake.I they weren’t going to break us down. We did have a couple of shots at them but their keeper was stopping everything. We just couldn’t find that elusive goal, so the game finished 2-1. We played really well especially in the first half. Great goal from Jake.M. Man of the match went to Jake.I for his great goalkeeping especially in the first half and also his kicking.

27.04.13 Pennine Juniors Reds 0 – 0 Littleborough Yellows. The games come thick and fast now as the season comes to a end. Playing another good team today in Littleborough. We were going into this full of confidence after a great performance on Wednesday. We kicked off the game with both teams playing some lovely football. We were piutting some lovely passing moves between Oliver,Ellie and Jake.M. We had a few shots just wide of the mark from Jake.M,Oliver and Harry. I really thought we were going to score soon as we were all over them. The game was mainly played in midfield and the littleborough defence, but we couldn’t score. Half time 0-0. We couldn’t have done anything else but score. Surely the second half would produce a goal either way. With both teams trying to score the game was very entertaining. We were again producing the chances but just couldn’t have the final finish. The game finished 0-0 again. We really did play really well again. Man of the match was a tough one as everyone played well especially Oliver and Jake.M, but the award went to Jake.M because he didn’t stop running, closing down the opponents and listening to instructions and then doing it.
24.04.13 Pennine Juniors Reds 3 – 3 Walshaw Park This was the day we were up against the champions. Walshaw had already won the league so we knew we were in for a good game. We had a great result last time against them and should have won so I was confident. We kicked off playing some lovely football. Passing, attacking and tackling everything and anyone. It really looked like everyone was up for the game, but we always are against the top teams! We went on the attack and got a throw on the left, Josh with his Rory Delap throw launched it in the box for a Walshaw player to flick it in the net,1-0. Page | 6
Pennine weren’t ready to stop there, but Walshaw weren’t either attacking our goal on numerous occasions but Jai was there to keep everything out. We went on the attack with a midfield battle the Walshaw player tried to clear the ball to find Harry face full on which then flew forward in Jake.M direction and from a tight angle he scored a fantastic goal in the roof of the net,2-0. Not that Harry knew much about it but it was a perfect assist!! Half time 2-0. This was a well deserved lead as every player put theirselves on the line. We knew they would come and attack us in the 2 nd half. It kicked off and Walshaw didn’t disappoint us. We were holding the lead really well though with some attacks of our own but just going wide on afew occasions. Walshaw got the ball in midfield and hit a fantastic shot in the corner of the net, there was nothing Jai could have done, I don’t think I could have got it,2-1. This got Walshaw wanting more. This really was a great game from both teams. Walshaw then came forward and scored another to make it level ,2-2. With only having 10 minutes to go either team could win it, then Oliver got took down to earn a free kick about 15 yards out. Oliver brushed himself off to take it and score a beauty, 3-2. All we needed to do was defend to get a well deserved win but Walshaw wasn’t ready to let this happen, with an attack down their left hand side lay the ball through to their striker who scored to make the final score 3-3. The whole team played really well but man of the match went to Charles for his no nonsense hard tackling defending.
18.04.13 Pennine Juniors Reds 0 – 3 Walshaw Whites I always like this fixture as Walshaw always give us a great game and either team can win it. It was a cold and very windy Thursday evening kick off. We had a fully fit team to choose from, which is always nice. We kicked off and attacked there goal, just putting a couple of efforts just wide. We kept going and Walshaw were attacking us but the defence was standing tall. This was a battle of midfields and we were winning it for long periods of play. Walshaw then put some moves together and had a couple of chances but Bilal, Matthew and Charles kept them out.
Page | 7
We then went down there end Jake.M had a chance at goal but the keeper was having a great game and kept it out. He then produced a big goal kick bounced once, went over our defenders heads and the forward just couldn’t miss, 0-1. It was a bit unlucky for us because we were playing some lovely passing football. Half time. We went into the second half kicking uphill. Walshaw were playing ok but all we needed was a goal to set us up. It didn’t come even though again and again we had chances. Oliver played a lovely cross over to Josh to hit it with his left foot but scuffed the shot wide. It was one of those games where it just wasn’t going in. Walshaw attacked us and had a couple of corners but we dealt with apart form one where it popped out to the edge of the box were they hit and hit a couple of players and sneaked in, 0-2. We pushed and pushed looking for the goals but Walshaw came at us again and scored to make it 0-3. We played ok and gave it our all but it just wasn’t to be. Man of the match went to Bilal who had a great game at the back, clearing everything and helping his team mates out.
13.04.13 Woodbank Blacks 4 – 2 Pennine Juniors Reds. This was the day all of the team and parents had been waiting for. I think I was very excited as I was up at 6am!! We turned up at Heywood looking as if we were ready to play a good game of football. We knew Woodbank wouldn’t be easy but we knew we could beat them. The game kicked off and we were attacking them from the off, but unfortunately we just couldn’t put a final finish to some great passing from the midfield (Ellie, Harry and Oliver). We kept going looking for the goal and it came from Jake.M with a close finish, 0-1. Woodbank tried to come at us but we stood strong at the back defending well. We put together some nice passing moves and got our reward with another goal, this time from Jake. I, 0-2. Half time. We were playing well closing them down and not giving them a chance to play, winning every ball. So at this point I was quite confident as we playing well. Page | 8
The 2nd half started and looked as though it was a totally different Pennine side. We weren’t defending, attacking or winning any of the 2nd balls. Woodbank eventually scored a goal, to be fair which they deserved for their hard work,1-2. The only problem with this was there manager being a Wally. With some unbelievable comments from him, this spoilt the game. This wound our team, parents and me as manager up. With this we started to crumble and Woodbank could see this and scored another to make it 2-2. With 10 minutes to go I knew we could still win this and deserved to, so we pushed forward looking for the winner. The players had given there all and looked a little tired but they kept going. Unfortunately Woodbank scored another 2 to make the final score 4-2. The team played really well and we deserved to win but didn’t. There was alot of sad players, parents and manager. Man of the match was Ellie because she bossed the midfield. We lost but you all made me very proud. Keep it going, next year we will win it.
06.04.13 Pennine Juniors Reds 2 – 2 Westbury Tigers This was always going to be a good game. We only had 8 players available with Bilal,Oliver and Ellie not available. We started the game well on the attack with Jake.M, Josh and Jake.I all threatening the Westbury Goal but just off target. We then had a break with Josh taking a quick throw on into the box for a Westbury player to score an own goal. It might have been a bit fortunate but we did deserve to be 1 up. We thought we would go in at half time 1 up but unfortunately Westbury got one back just before half time,1-1. We were playing well and we could see we could win this one, but it was Westbury who was on the attack and scored to make it 1-2. 1 of their parents said come on this easy we can score loads here, but straight from the kick off Jake.I dribbled the ball forward laid the ball to the right for Josh to hammer the ball in the net 2-2. Now that is how easy it is to score!!!! We still had about 15 mins to go so either side could win but it ended up staying 2-2. Page | 9
It was a great game of football with both teams going for it. Man of the match went to Josh for his goal, quick thinking and his work rate on getting back and working for the team, Jake.M also had a good game. Next one Semi-final……..
01.04.13 Littleborough Yellows 0 – 0 Pennine Reds The games are coming thick and fast. It was a cold Easter Monday morning at Littleborough but the team were looking for a better result than Saturday. As we were warming up a bit a problem when our keeper Jai wasn’t feeling well and had to leave so Jake. I went in goal at the last minute. The game kicked off and turned out that this was going to be a battle. Both teams were really going for the goal but for some good goalkeeping from Jake it stayed at nil-nil. We then put some lovely passing moves together which lead to Jake .M having a nice strike at goal. Half time nil-nil. This was going to be a quick talk as it was freezing. The second half kicked off with both teams playing some nice football. A few shots came from Littleborough but Jake.I, Matthew., Charles and Olivia were all there to help each other. The game finished nil – nil. Man of the match was a very close between Jake. I for his great goalkeeping and Olivia for her great reading of the game and covering, but it went to Olivia. Quickly left to get warm and eat lots of Easter eggs!!!!!
30.03.13 Pennine Reds 1 – 7 Chaddy Lions It was our first home game since 2nd March so I was looking for a good performance. It was a cold and windy day but the players looked up for it. This was going to be a good game as there is only one place between us in the league. We started off playing ok starting to pass the ball around and having some shots but there keeper was having a good day. Chaddy then had their first shot at goal and in it went ,0-1.
Page | 10
To be fair at this point it was against the run of play, but I knew we would keep battling to get the equaliser. Unfortunately it never came and Chaddy responded with another 3 without reply. 4 nil down at half time. At least we were going downhill so I thought the shots would come and goal would follow. Again we let Chaddy come through us far too easy and they scored 1 to make it,0-5. Heads were going down but we just need a goal to get us going which thankfully came through a shot from Ellie just sneeking in,1-5. The comeback was on with 15 mins to go, well that’s what I thought but Chaddy had other ideas and they were knocking the ball around to easily and scored another 2. This made the final score 1-7. Not a great day at the office. As a team we didn’t defend as we can and let them through too easily. Man of the match went to Harry for his hard work and some lovely vision in passing and finding his team mates who were in space.
16.03.13 Walshaw Park 4 – 4 Pennine Reds It was touch and go whether the game would go ahead or not as the weather was horrible, but luckily it was on. Walshaw was always going to be a tricky game as they were unbeaten so far this year. For this game we were without Harry.B and Olivia. I moved a couple of people around from the normal positions (Charles into right midfield) and he had a great little stint on the right hand side. We started playing the sort of football which was missing from the week before. The whole team started to come together with some great passing from Ellie and Oliver. The whole team were battling for every ball especially Charles on the right who was taking no prisoners. With all this hard work I knew that we were going to get our reward soon which we did, when the ball came to Oliver on the left he cut in onto his right foot and scored, 0-1. We deserved the lead, but Walshaw weren’t going to give up and they came at us again and again looking for the equaliser but some great defending from Bilal and Matthew kept them at bay. But unfortunately they did score to make it 1-1. We were not stopping and we kept on attacking and scored another goal where Jake.I played the ball across to Josh to finish with his left foot 1-2. It was a great game of football from both sides and then Walshaw scored to make it 2-2 at half time. I couldn’t have a go at anybody because they really were all putting a shift in. We knew that if we continued with how we were playing we could win this. Page | 11
We went into the 2nd half continuing to attack their goal but it was Walshaw who scored the next goal, which was not deserved as we were all over them at this point, 3-2. To be fair to the team they didn’t stop trying and we should have had another 4, 1 from Jake.I but put it right over the bar and 3 from Jake.M but he just couldn’t put the ball in the net. We did get the next from Oliver to make it 3-3. Now we were going for the win and we scored from some hard work and their goalkeeper coming out and Jake.M going for the same ball and Jake slide in to just get there before the keeper to make it 3-4. All we needed to do was to keep it like this for the last 8 minutes, but unfortunately we couldn’t and Walshaw scored to make it 4-4. The game finished with the score being 4-4. This was a lot better performance. The whole team played really well and should have won. Man of the match went to Oliver for his 2 goals and for his work rate going forwards and backwards. Next up SEMI FINAL. Let’s hope we can play the same next week.
09.03.13 Whitworth Valley 3 – 0 Pennine Reds We were looking to continue from where we left off last, but we were playing Whitworth on a horrible pitch and a very cold day. But these were the conditions for both teams. We started the game kicking uphill first. The game to be fair wasn’t a great one from either side. Neither team could actually play the football their used to playing. Our passing game had to go out of the window on a very muddy and bobbly pitch. The deadlock was broken and unfortunately Whitworth scored when they came through the midfield far too easily, went past the defender and scored past a helpless Jai in goal, 1-0. To be fair Whitworth where playing the better football and deserved to go in 1-0 at half time. At half time I thought that we would come into our own and win the game in the second half going downhill. To be fair it looked as though we were going to do just that when Jake.M went through on a couple of occasions but just put the ball wide of the mark. We then went close a couple of more times but to no joy. Whitworth then went up the other end and scored another 2 to make the final score 3-0. Page | 12
This was a disappointing result; the only shining light was the man of the match who was Jake. Meehan, he continued to listen to what I was asking him to do and was trying to do it. Let’s hope that next week is a better one for us.
02.03.13 Pennine Reds 2 – 1 Chaddy Dragons It was touch and go on whether the pitch was playable but luckily we had a late kick off so was perfect for football. This week we were without Oliver. We were playing a very good team in Chaddy Dragons who we beat before so would be nice to do the double over them. We started off playing some nice football on a bigger pitch which let the plays express themselves a little. There was some lovely passing going on between the team which was nice to see as we have been missing it for a couple of weeks. The first half was a hard fought affair with both teams trying to score, but with no joy from either team. Half time 0-0. The team had worked hard and where giving it everything. We kicked off the 2nd half looking for the goal which was on its way. We then put it altogether and Harry crossed a lovely ball in the box for Olivia to nudge the ball over the line,1-0. It was a lead we deserved. Chaddy dragons weren’t going lay down though and attacked us. They then got their reward to score and make it, 1-1. Pennine kept pushing forward looking for another. We were on the attack and the breakthrough came in Harry again crossing a lovely ball in the box and Josh scrambling the ball in, 2-1. This was with 5 minutes remaining so we did defend a little to keep the lead which we kept them out with some great defending from Bilal. Final whistle went and we had the victory we deserved 2-1 and the double over a very good team. Some great performances around the pitch but man of the match went to Bilal for his great defending.
Page | 13
23.02.13 Miam Miam FC 2 – 9 Pennine Reds Fc Quarter finals day and I think that I’m more excited than the kids. We had 9 players for the game with Bilal and Charles unavailable. It was a very small pitch so we would have to play our passing game well. The game kicked off and within 2 minutes we scored our first goal with a nice shot at goal by Jake.I, 0-1. Straight from the kick off we retrieved the ball and scored number 2 from Josh, 0-2. Miam took the kick off and we then tackled laid the ball to the right for Harry to score number 3, 0-3. Miam Miam weren’t offering much in the game and although we were 0-3 up in 3 minutes it could have been more. We were shooting for fun with shots just going past the posts and also hitting the post and cross bar, but we weren’t following the shots up. We did get another from Josh, 0-4. By this stage we had only played 15 minutes and Jai hadn’t had a shot to save, this was about to change as the ball came to Olivia in defence where the ball got stuck in her feet a Miam Miam player got the ball went through and scored,1-4. We weren’t finished with the half quite yet and Ellie scored one just before half time, 1-5. Half time 1-5. You would think that being 1-5 up I would be happy but that is further than the truth. I don’t mind winning 1-0 if we play our football by passing as a team and that isn’t what we were doing in the first half, the whole team thought they could score on their own. So after a half time talk I was expecting some passing and to be fair they did for a little while, and we then scored number 6 from Josh, 1-6. We were having the shots but they just weren’t going in, Miam weren’t offering much goal threat so Jai, Matthew and Jake. I were just watching the game for most of the 2nd half. The ball was then played forward to Jake .M who was clear to shoot but he choice not too as it was on his left foot, I was saying to him why didn’t he try it with his left when the ball came to him and he chipped the ball in to make it 1-7, he redeemed himself even though he knew he could of done it with his left. With this we had 12 minutes left so I made a couple of changes, as we weren’t going to lose the game now, Jai (goalkeeper) went up front and Oliver and Josh changed to defenders. The change worked well as jai came out like a coiled spring chasing everything and nearly scoring on a couple of occasions. We did score with a goal from Jake.I, 1-8. Page | 14
We then had a corner which Oliver went up for and scored to the right of the keeper to make it, 1-9. With about 2 minutes to go Miam Miam got their reward for their battling and scored to make the final score 2-9. It was a good performance not our best but at least we won and won well. Man of the match went to Josh for his hat trick and working hard for the team. Semi-finals here we come.
16.02.13 Pennine Juniors Reds 4 – 5 Chaddy Phoenix It was a lovely day at Hopwood and the team were looking to keep the winning run going with victory over Chaddy today. We started the game with sun in our eyes and uphill. We knew that Chaddy Phoenix are a physical side and they didn’t disappoint us. They scored within 5 minutes with a volley from Jai’s goal kick, which the player connected with the ball well, 0-1. They came at us again and muscled their way through which was a shame because it just needed a tackle to go in, 0-2. This sparked us in to life a little with some great work from Jake.m to release Oliver to score a good goal,1-2. We were playing ok but just needed to tackle more as they were coming through us too easy, but we did work hard and got our reward with Oliver placing a lovely side foot shot past the keeper, back in it 2-2. We took our foot off of the gas a little and Chaddy capitalised on it and sneaked a goal to go in at half time 2-3 up. At half time I told the team to start to tackle and to their credit they listened and came out for the second half tackling everything and within a couple of minutes we got our reward with a nice strike from Jake.I to make it 3-3. We were playing well with some tasty tackles flying in from both teams. Chaddy then went up our end had a shot unfortunately hit Jake.I in the nose and flew in,3-4. We were playing well and deserved another goal which we had a chance with, when we were a awarded a penalty for hand ball. Ellie calmly stepped up and scored,4-4. Page | 15
We don’t sit back and defend we go for the win which we were, but unfortunately not happening on this occasion. Chaddy were also going for the win which made it entertaining, then all of a sudden the ref gave Chaddy a penalty for a bad tackle , which it never was. They then took it and scored,45. It was a shame as we worked so hard to get back in to it, to then have it took away, but that’s football for you. It finished 4-5. A better second half and should have been at least a point for us. Player of the match went to Olivia Corns for her hard work, flexibility and TACKLING. Next week Quarter finals of cup.
09.02.13 Pennine Juniors 4-2 Westbury Lions (Cup). After having a 3 week break due to the weather it was the morning of the cup game. It felt like it was the first game of the season with all kids buzzing to play. This week it was Bilal’s turn to miss out. We started the game with Westbury attacking us from the start. They had a shot but Jai kept it out with a fine save. With some great play down the left with Ellie and Josh, Josh hit the post. We then had a chance for Jake. I but he just didn’t have the legs to get to it. Westbury then went down the other end and scored a good goal.0-1. With our team I honestly think that when we concede a goal we come to life. We then started to put the tackles in from Olivia, Matthew and Charles, but Westbury weren’t letting up and had 2 great strikes at goal but Jai was alert and ready to stop them. I then made a change and brought Harry on and within 2 minutes a cross from Oliver came across and Harry was on hand to steer the ball in the net.1-1. This spurred us on battling for everything then out of nowhere Ellie received the ball in midfield seen the goalie of his line and hit a fantastic shot over his head from near the half way line, this was no fluke she went it, great goal.2-1. I even said to Tony that I wouldn’t have even tried that!!! 2-1 Half time. A great half. Now we were going downhill. The second half was brilliant having shot after shot but just shooting wide from Jake.m, Josh,Ellie and Oliver. Page | 16
Westbury were on the attack but Charles done an excellent You could see that Westbury were wanting to score and with 5 minutes to go they did making it a tense last 5 mintues.3-2. With this we still were going for more goals rather than sitting back and defending, I put Olivia in midfield, their goalkeeper took a goal kick it went straight to Olivia and she hit first time and in the net.4-2. With a couple of minutes left Westbury were getting frustrated and started to do some nasty tackles but we brushed ourselves down and finished the game 4-2. A great game of football with great performances from everyone especially Harry, Olivia and Ellie for her wonder goal but man of the match went to Jai because he kept us in it when if they had scored we could have lost it. Quarter finals here we come.
12.01.13 Seedfield Titans 2 -2 Pennine Juniors Reds This was our first game for a long while and everyone was eager and ready for the game, despite it being very cold. This was the first outing for our new signings Josh and Bilal. We started the game playing some nice football, but Seedfield were shutting us down quickly. The deadlock was broken unfortunately by Seedfield 1-0. This spurred the team on to get the goal back which we did with a great goal from Ellie.1-1. We came in at half time 1-1. We were playing ok but I knew we could play better. Bilal and Josh were playing ok for their first game with us. We came out in the second half determined to win and score goals. But it was Seedfield attacking us first but with some great defending from Charles and Matthew it stayed at 1-1. Then we started to pass the ball like we can it came to Josh and with his left foot he had a shot and it sneaked in. 1-2. With 5 minutes to go I thought we were going to get a 3rd but unfortunately just shooting wide of the mark on a couple of occasions. Seedfield then had a corner from the left and crossed a ball in and pinballed to one of their players and crossed the line. 2-2. The final whistle blew and finished 2-2. Page | 17
The second half was a lot better than the first. A great first debut goal from Josh but with a great defence performance keeping Seedfield at bay man of the match went to Matthew Hill. Next game cup against Westbury Lions.
17.11.12 Rossendale Pumas 10 – 2 Pennine Juniors Reds The 2nd round of the cup was upon us and the draw hadn’t been kind by drawing us against the top of league 1! We knew that this was going to be a hard game for us, but we would give it a good go. I had told the players to enjoy themselves and if we scored give us a great celebration! The game kicked off on a very muddy and boggy pitch. We were passing the ball well even on a terrible pitch, but we got our reward with the ref giving us a free kick in the 1st minute. It was well worked with Ellie touching it to Oliver where I thought he was going to smash it in but he disguised it well and laid a lovely ball across to Jake Meehan to score a great goal. 1 nil in the 1st minute. Forgetting what I had said to them the players didn’t. Jake Idiens came running up from goal, sub Harry came running on the pitch joining the rest of the team all standing on the half way line doing Gangnam Style dance, Hilarious!!! We carried on playing well closing Rossendale down and with some fine saves from our stand in keeper for the day Jake Idiens keeping us in it we were still 1 nil up. Olivia was having a great battle with her player and was determined not to let him past, but everyone was like that. Then after 15 minutes Rossendale scored to make it 1-1. With both teams working hard Rossendale scored another 2 just before half time. 3-1 half time. Considering we were 3-1 down we were playing well with great performances everywhere. The second half started and we went looking for a goal with a couple of shots at their keeper from Oliver and Jake. M but just not sneaking in, Rossendale then scored a goal to make it 4-1. Harry was back after a couple of weeks away and started to get stuck in the second half where Rossendale looked scared when he got the ball. Rossendale did go on to score another , 5-1, but to Pennines defence we don’t just sit back we go and try to score goals and we did with a nice pass from Ellie to Oliver then a cross to Jake .Meehan to score his 2nd of the game, 5-2. Page | 18
With about 7 minutes to go we did look as if we were tiring a little and Rossendale decided to turn it up a little by scoring another 5 towards the end. Yes we lost but if we play like that every week in our league we will beat everyone. Man of the match went to Jake Idiens for his great performance in goal. Rossendale might have won but we won the goal celebration, Gangnam Style!!!!!!!
03.11.12 Pennine Juniors Reds v Whitworth Valley After a great win 2 weeks ago I was hoping the break hadn’t disrupted all the good work the team were doing last time. We were going into the game 1 player down with Harry not available but at least we had a sub this week. After such a good performance last time I couldn’t change a winning team. We started the game really well with everyone working hard for each other. Eventually after playing some lovely football the deadlock was broken by a goal from Olivia. Whitworth at this time weren’t troubling us and even if they did break into our half the defensive partnership of Charles and Matthew were dealing with everything. With Jake Meehan doing some great work up front we knew it was only a matter of time until the next goal was coming. With this Oliver received the ball on the right from a great ball from Ellie, he hit a great shot straight into the goal, I was right behind him and knew straight away that when it left his foot it was only going one place! After this I thought Jake. I was going to score from near the half way line with a clearance come shot but just went wide! Eventually we scored another and it was a deserved goal from Ellie with a right foot shot just outside the box. She worked so hard against someone who was twice the size of her, and she came out on top! We went in at half time 3 – 0 which could have been a lot more. Jai was just a spectator in the first half, but was happy as we were winning against his friends from Whitworth! We went into the 2nd half trying to keep playing the football we did in the first half. We did keep up the pressure and with Oliver going down the right and crossing a great ball into the box Jake.M tapped it in to make it 4. Whitworth did come at us a bit more and eventually scored a goal which was a bit of a scrabble in the box and scored. 4-1. With this the team worked harder and were looking for more goals and could have been more but we put a few chances wide of the mark. Then Jake. M decided to hit a shot at goal which looked as if the keeper had it but trickled in between her legs! Page | 19
We finished the game winning it 5 -1 and it could have been more. 2 Jake.M ,Oliver ,Olivia and Ellie. Player of the match was Ellie for bossing the midfield and overall great performance.
20.10.12 Chaddy Dragons v Pennine Reds An away trip to Chaddy Dragons who were 2nd in league a wait us today. This was not going to be an easy game. We knew that it was not going to be easy when we went down to 7 players with (Harry away and Jake. I ill). The conditions were perfect for a game of football and the team knew that they had to play as a team. The game started with Chaddy playing some nice football but Pennine were defending really well. A couple of chances went to Chaddy but were just off target. It really was a great game of football to watch. Pennine then started to see some gaps appear in the Chaddy team and got there reward for all their hard work. A great little goal scored by Jake Meehan. We were playing the best football we have ever played with every player putting everything into it. We then scored another goal by Oliver Barlow to make it 2 nil. You could see the Chaddy team were not used to the opposition playing this well against them but to be fair they were playing some good passing football, but just not as good as Pennine. The second half was just as good as the first with both teams giving their all. They came back with 2 goals after we had scored our 3rd by Jake chipping the ball over the advancing keeper. We did feel as though they might sneak another but we then scored another by Jake Meehan and with 1 minute to go the best goal of the day was scored by Olivia who struck the ball over the keeper into the top corner. Pennine won the game 2-5 with goals from Jake Meehan (3), Oliver and Olivia. Player of the Match was Oliver for his great goal, passing and overall great game.
13.10.12 Pennine Reds v Unsworth Demons The day has come of our first ever cup game, and the draw has been very kind to us in Unsworth Demons.
Page | 20
We were looking for our first win of the season having played well previously with little success. The game started well with Pennine playing some nice football. Eventually we got a corner, which was played in by Ellie to the near post and Jake Idiens tapped it in. Soon after we scored another when Jake Meehan went clear to score his first of the game; 2-0. Things were looking good, you should never get ahead of yourself and think you have won already but I did and within minutes Unsworth scored and then scored again to make it 2-2. My thinking at this time was no we not losing this one. The team responded well and started to play the football I knew they could and scored another 6 goals without reply (Ellie, Oliver, Olivia – Left foot, and Jake Meehan with another 3 for the game making his total 4. It could have been a lot closer but Jai “The Cat” Bywater pulled off some great saves to keep us in front. We finished the game with a great 8 -2 victory. The man of match was tight between Jai and Jake Meehan, but Jake just won it with his 4 goals and hard work during the game. A good team performance and the reds go marching into Round 2!!!!
