We, the people of First Presbyterian Church, know that we are called to be the church wherever God has placed us. We also know that Jesus did not call the world to go to the church; He said for the church to go to the world. Let us be sent to the world both near and far, remembering that God does not use us to get missions done, He uses missions to get us done!

SEND YOURSELF TO THE NATIONS POT-LUCK March 11 at 5:30 in First Hall

by Sheryl Wood

It is one of my favorite lines, “God doesn’t use us to get mission done, he uses missions to get us done.” It is my ernest belief that this is true! Every mission pilgrimage I’ve completed has in some way put a piece of my heart and spirit in place. The lives I’ve touched and those who’ve touched my life remind me that this world is not about comfort and pleasure. It is my desire to serve and it is a feeling that is incomparable. This potluck will serve as a chance for you and your family to hear first hand accounts of those who have been sent to the nations or those who are planning a trip. Come to the Potluck Sunday, March 11 at 5:30 in First Hall to help us celebrate the impact our missions make and the fantastic group that have signed up to be Sent to the Nations. Join us in storytelling and group discussion on the impact of our mission work in our community and beyond.

This will be a chance to praise and celebrate how the Lord has worked in the lives of people you know and love, and maybe even in you. Childcare is provided. We will pray for your future in our mission fields both locally and around the world. A-L please bring side dish and M-Z please bring a dessert. …well done my good and faithful servant. Matthew 25:21 Please register online (www.fpcnorfolk.org)

PUT INTO PRACTICE

Tell your friend that you are a Christ Follower

Invite your friend to worship or to a church event

Ask about his or her spiritual beliefs

Share your faith story, why are you a Christ follower

Ask your friend if they would like to become a Christ follower

Add to the Community

Everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. How then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. Romans 10:13-14, Matthew 28:19-20

Challenge:

NEO:

Commit to Adding to the Community by accepting the PRA•X•IS Evangelism Challenge. Series runs from February 26-April 8. The PRA•X•IS Evangelism Challenge is available for download at www.fpcnorfolk.org. It includes a two-page instruction letter and a small number of business card-sized reminders. You can also pick up printed copies in the Loft.

NEO is a new 4 week class designed to be a non-threatening introduction to the basic ideas and concepts of Christianity. NEO will run on Sunday nights from April 15 through May 6. If you have a unchurched friend who might be interested, we encourage you to invite him or her and consider taking the class with them sometime this year. For more information or to register visit www.fpcnorfolk.org.

Recommended Books: "Just Walk Across the Room" by Bill Hybels. If you would like some books to recommend to your non-Christian friends, we suggest: "The Reason for God" by Tim Keller - a more analytical approach to faith, and "Searching for God Knows What" by Donald Miller. Both these books are also available for purchase in the Loft.

New Church Plant at FPC – The Urban Circle

Jim Wood and guest speakers will guide us through discussions on critical issues that every man faces in his life. Regardless of your age or marital status, these discussions will provide valuable insights into the challenges of being a Christian man in the 21st century. Come and enjoy a full breakfast, great fellowship and a challenging message about being the "point man" in your home.

FPC is partnering with The Urban Circle to help plant a church in Norfolk that will specifically target the urban community of Park Place. We are very excited to host this new outreach in our own First Hall! Antipas Harris, a professor at Regent’s School of Theology, is leading this new congregation. If you would like to contact him to offer support or talk about being involved, his email is antipas@theurbancircle.net. This new worshipping body will meet for the first time on Saturday, March 17th, and will continue to meet regularly on the 3rd Saturday of the month.
