SEEKING CHRIST

Morning Aside Retreat - Plan to be with us July 14th from 9:00 am to noon for this special time. Our July theme is Abiding in the Spirit with Facilitator Frank Drake. Join a group of fellow travelers for a morning of peace and quiet at The Center. It is a grand way to break the cycle of busyness and recharge your soul...just what our Summer Sermon Series prescribed — PERMISSION TO REST! We Want to Know! As we are together seeking Christ and sharing His love, please share any praise reports, concerns or urgent needs with us so our deacons can stand with you. Confidential communications can be sent to Grace Weedman, FPC’s Parish Visitor, via email to grace@fpcnorfolk.org or by phone at 757-625-1697. Join our Photography Team - We are looking for a few photographers to take photos during Sunday morning worship services and fellowship times. Show the world what you are seeing at FPC with minimal time and effort! If interested please contact Jim Gates at jimgates@fpcnorfolk.org or mark the back of the Connection Card.

Friendly Faces with Basic Computer Skills Needed - This summer we are asking for volunteers to greet and assist new guests with checking in their children on our computer system during Sunday mornings. Smiles are the most important part of this job and helping type in pertinent data for new kids is second. Children’s Check-In Assistants serve twice a month either from 9:00 to 10:15 or from 10:15 to 11:15. Sign up on the Connection Card or contact Lucy Gates at lucy@fpcnorfolk.org.

Prayer of Confession: Merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. In your mercy forgive how we have been, help us amend how we are, and direct how we shall be more like Your Son, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Silent Confession Confessional Response:

Kyrie Kyrie eleison; Christe eleison; Kyrie eleison. Translation: Lord have mercy; Christ have mercy; Lord have mercy.

Assurance of Pardon:

1 Corinthians 15: 58

Greeting and Connecting with the 5-Cents-A-Meal Offering: Half the proceeds benefit local, national and global hunger programs, and half supports our FPC Saturday Soup Kitchen. Children through grade 5 are invited to come forward to receive a Children’s Worship Packets designed especially to involve them in worship. Anthem:

When In Our Music God is Glorified arr Charles Stanford

When in our music God is glorified, and adoration leaves no room for pride, it is as though the whole creation cried: Alleluia! How often, making music, we have found a new dimension in the world of sound, as worship moved us to a more profound Alleluia! So has the church, in liturgy and song, in faith and love, through centuries of wrong, borne witness to the truth in ev'ry tongue: Alleluia! And did not Jesus sing a psalm that night when utmost evil strove against the light? Then let us sing, for whom he won the fight: Alleluia! Let ev'ry instrument be tuned for praise! Let all rejoice who have a voice to raise! And may God give us faith to sing always: Alleluia!

Presentation of Our Gifts Offertory Anthem:

The Glory of the Father by Egil Hovland (Text: adapted from John 1)

*Doxology and Prayer of Dedication Praise God, from whom all blessings flow, Praise Him, all creatures here below, Praise Him above, ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. *Affirmation of Faith: The Apostles‘ Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth and in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen. Concerns and Prayers of Our Church Family The Lord’s Prayer (in unison) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive us our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and power, and glory, forever. *Hymn:

Precious Lord, Take My Hand
