Dear business partner, We would like to celebrate our 45th anniversary with our new autumn/winter ’23 collection. The collection is created with the aim of letting people experience the benefits of a good night’s sleep. We contribute to the perfect night’s sleep by continuously innovating, responding to the latest trends in the fields of fashion and interior design and sharing our knowledge. Better sleep creates space for beautiful dreams and, above all, gives energy to realize those dreams. During our anniversary in October we will promote the anniversary dessins Jorren and Luke, together with our new brand identity, in a marketing campaign. We have developed a new logo for our brand Beddinghouse, that represents the feeling of happiness. Want to know more? Our fitted sheets, duvet covers, cushions and bath textiles are made of high quality materials, making these products last even longer. Beddinghouse: new brand identity Completely new is our brand identity for Beddinghouse. Beddinghouse believes in making people happier by letting them experience the benefits of the perfect night’s sleep. Better sleep creates space for beautiful dreams and gives you the energy to make those dreams come true. The slogan ‘Creating Happiness’ gives all Beddinghouse brands including Beddinghouse Stories, Beddinghouse x Fiep Amsterdam, Beddinghouse x Hanneke de Jager, Beddinghouse Care, Beddinghouse x Van Gogh Museum, Beddinghouse Dutch Design and At Home by Beddinghouse an umbrella identity. Each brand has its own way to contribute to the happiness feeling. Beddinghouse Stories contributes to the feeling of happiness through its distinctive colourful prints and designs. Improving your sleep experience will also make your life more colourful, because you will feel happier during the day. Therefore Beddinghouse Stories stands for ‘Happiness by colour’. To match this new identity we have developed a new logo and packaging. 4

New sustainable packaging Duvet covers Evening Brown, Florian Green, Odile Green, Prado Multi and Splendor Multi (all 100% cotton satin) will come in a sustainable, reusable box, made from FSC carton and recyclable PET plastic. The packaging is both attractive and informative with useful sleep tips and fun facts about what colours can do. The perfect gift to keep or give away! All other duvet covers will come in a fabric bag made of the same fabric as the duvet cover. The artwork of the banderols match the artwork of the box and consist of the story colours, new logo and the unique selling points of each fabric. The brand and care labels of all duvet covers have been adjusted with the new Beddinghouse logo. Combine the different Beddinghouse packaging with KAAT Amsterdam on your shelves, in order to create a stunning presentation in your store.

PS: More news later this year! That’s when we launch two new collections. A beautiful ongoing and innovative collection under the well-known Dutch brand Silvana. And also an adventurous textile collection for children, with many special items, in the name of the Netherlands’ most famous biologist Freek Vonk. See page 8.

Beddinghouse: flannel duvet cover made of recycled post-consumer waste Dessin Gloaming is made of cotton flannel, of which 30% consists of recycled post-consumer waste. To manufacture this duvet cover, old textiles are collected and sorted. New yarns are made through a mechanical recycling process. To preserve high quality standards, the recycled cotton is combined with 70% regular cotton. Thick yarns have been used for this duvet cover that have been gently brushed, making the cover very soft, thick and warm to the touch. This warm winter quality makes you dream away warm during the cold winter months. With this duvet cover, you can save energy and stay nice and warm even when you turn down the thermostat. Duvet cover Gloaming is available in the colours Brown, Pastel and Green.

KAAT Amsterdam teddy throws The new teddy throws of KAAT Amsterdam are perfect for a chilly spring evening outdoors or on a cold winter’s evening indoors. Throws Felien Natural, Odin Pink, Israe Multi and Juda Green are a contemporary and classic combo with a delightfully soft teddy fleece quality. Each throw has its own design, from classic stripes to an abstract floral print.

A collection that is not just about bathroom couture, but about transforming your daily routine into a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Wrap yourself in soothing softness after a shower or during lazy Sundays with woven jacquard towels, bathrobes, and cotton-sateen kimonos. More innovations regarding sustainable packaging In the Autumn/Winter ’23 collection the brands Oilily, Kardol by Beddinghouse and Beddinghouse will be packed in a more sustainable way. Previously we have already achieved sustainable packaging for Oilily Kids, however this season Oilily will be packaged in a sustainable way too. The new packaging consists of a sleeve that is directly wrapped around the duvet cover set. Therefore the amount of packaging is reduced considerably, making it more sustainable. Made to show off the new designs and let the consumer feel the luxurious fabric, the new Kardol packaging is stylish, innovative, durable and an attractive addition to your bedlinen display. The duvet covers come in a half box with a beautiful ribbon tied around, designed exclusively for Kardol by Beddinghouse. Last but not least the Beddinghouse kids packaging has been updated, making the fabric more visible by reducing the height of the packaging.

In recent years, the Silvana range has expanded considerably to meet a wide variety of needs. This autumn, the collection will be expanded even more with a beautiful bedding collection. Freek Vonk This season, we introduce a new collaboration with the Netherlands’ bestknown biologist and scientist Freek Vonk! A bedding and accessories collection inspired by the wonderful world of Freek Vonk. Each product is based on the three core values; education, wonder and sustainability. The themes, in which the collection is built, are: shark, dinosaur, snake, safari, laterrr and sloth. Within each theme, there are various products to create a real ‘world’. From duvet covers to decorative cushions and from bathcapes to rugs. Freek Vonk is more than a biologist and scientist. Freeks Wilde Wereld has been one of the best-watched children’s television programmes on Dutch television for years. We will print less communication material and provide more digital tools to reduce our environmental footprint. • We have reduced the number of collection books that will be printed. All our collection books are now available on issuu.com. See for yourselves at: www.issuu.com/beddinghouse. You can download or share these publications as well. • Most materials that are left over from a process can be useful for something. Rest fabrics of our duvet covers are for example used to make our ‘re-use bags’. These bags are available on request.

Marketing campaigns In order to inform your customer about our new events and products we will be running different marketing campaigns for autumn/winter ‘23. • During our anniversary in October we will promote our anniversary dessins Jorren and Luke, together with our new brand identity, in a marketing campaign. We have developed a new logo for our brand Beddinghouse, that represents the feeling of happiness. The marketing campaign will consist of collaborations with influencers, a social media strategy, mention on our website and a newsletter with all creative formats you need to inform your customers. • During the ‘colder’ winter months we will repeat our previous flannel campaign of autumn/winter ’22 due to it’s success. During this campaign we will promote duvet covers Gloaming and Demi. These duvet covers are made of 100% cotton flannel. This warm winter quality makes you dream away warm during the cold winter months. Duvet cover Gloaming is even more sustainable, since it consists of 30% recycled post-consumer waste. With both duvet covers you can save energy and stay nice and warm even when you turn down the thermostat.

Already years ago, Bedding House initiated a policy to contribute to a better and more sustainable future. We choose to focus on Product, People and Packaging. Product Bedding House strives to achieve sustainability in the entire production line and the aim is to include the entire process - from the plant to the product - in this goal. Our objective is to use more sustainable fabrics in the future, which do have a smaller footprint.

Beddinghouse Dutch Design has a duvet and two pillows that consist of recycled materials. All the bedding is GRS certified (Global Recycled Standard). Sleeping under a sustainable duvet cover feels even better when it’s also filled with a responsible duvet.

Bedding House has been a proud partner of Better Cotton since 2016. Better Cotton’s mission is to help cotton communities survive and thrive, while protecting and restoring the environment. Bedding House partners with Better Cotton to improve cotton farming globally. By buying cotton products from Bedding House you’re supporting responsible cotton production through Better Cotton. We have received new regulations from Better Cotton. Use the content we provide, including the Better Cotton statement about the mass balance system.

Steps already taken: - Beddinghouse has introduced a new modern white story, that’s ‘designed for recycling’. During the designing phase of these duvet covers, thought was given to what happens to these products after long-term usage, in terms of sustainability. ‘Design for recycling’ is key for Beddinghouse, minimizing the necessity of new raw materials in the future. These duvet covers and matching KAAT Amsterdam cushion Faby White are literally designed to be recycled, which means that new yarns can easily be made from the fabric of these covers after frequent use in order to create new beautiful products.

In our sustainable line Beddinghouse Care we provide more sustainable alternatives than regular cottton, such as bamboo, lyocell and recycled cotton. What’s more, and equally important, is that these materials provide the perfect sleeping experience.

The Beddinghouse Care line is completed with Organic Basics, made of organic cotton carrying the GOTS quality label.

Our brand Beddinghouse Dutch Design carries the GOTS quality mark as well. The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognised as the world’s leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain. All products comply with the Oeko-Tex label.

We have introduced decorative cushions for KAAT Amsterdam made of 100% recycled post-consumer waste.

Leftover fabrics are used to make nice bags and also to produce facemasks.

People We support projects at home and abroad that are primarily concerned with the well-being of people. Bedding House’s products are made in Pakistan, India, Turkey and China and we select our manufacturers in these countries with great care to ensure that good working conditions are in place. We also visit our manufacturers regularly to ensure that products are made to our specifications. Bedding House is supporting Mercy Ships since 2019. Mercy Ships is an international organization providing free medical care in developing countries on board of the largest non-governmental hospital ships of the world. Our sponsorship consists of providing bed textiles for the hundreds of hospital beds on the ship. Packaging Bedding House is highly aware of the adverse effects of plastic on our planet. In order to reduce the usage of PVC, it is our objective to package all our products 100% PVC free. Rethinking the way we design our packaging is one step further down the road to a cleaner environment and a sustainable future. We have already successfully developed sustainable packaging for most of our brands, and are committed to ensure this for all of them in the near future.

Nutrient-Rich Pumpkin Soup Recipe for Optimal Health

Ingredients: • • • •

Olive oil Yellow or white onion Fresh Garlic Chicken broth – You can also use vegetable broth for a vegan and vegetarian soup, or homemade bone broth for added nutrients. • Coconut milk – Be sure to use full-fat coconut milk for best flavor and texture. • Pumpkin puree – Be sure to use pumpkin purée (just pumpkin flesh). • Seasonings – Nutmeg, sea salt, and black pepper.

Method

Saute onion. Heat olive oil, then add the onion and saute until translucent.

Saute garlic. Add garlic and saute until fragrant.

Add remaining ingredients. Stir in chicken broth, coconut milk, pumpkin puree, nutmeg, sea salt, and black pepper.

Blend. Use a blender to puree the soup until smooth.

Simmer. Bring pumpkin soup with canned pumpkin to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the soup thickens to your liking and flavors develop. 6. Garnish. Add a swirl of coconut milk, pumpkin seeds, and chopped cilantro or fresh thyme. 115

Care collection Autumn/Winter 2023

We want to minimise the impact of our products on the environment and therefore strive to use sustainable materials. Our main source of raw material is cotton. The cultivation and processing of cotton has a major impact on the environment, which is why our focus is on finding sustainable alternatives. The bed linen from the Beddinghouse Care collection is made from materials that disperse moisture well, have antibacterial properties and are generally easier to recycle. The amount of water used in the production of these materials is considerably less than that is used in the production of more traditional materials, also fewer chemicals such as pesticides, bleach and cheap and dangerous additives such as microplastics are used. The duvet covers are packaged in FSC-cardboard packaging with a PET-window. This means that the raw material for the packaging comes from responsibly managed forests. This packaging is a lot more durable and can simply be disposed of with the old paper so that it can be recycled again.

Lyocell is made from the cellulose fibres from beech trees. These trees can be grown using waste water and fewer harmful solvents. The cultivation process is very environmentally because the tree needs less water, pesticides and fertilizer to grown. In addition to this, lyocell has antibacterial qualities, an excellent moisture absorbing capacity and offers optimal ventilation.

Bamboo fibres have a natural, rapid growth and is known to improve soil fertility, reduce soil erosion and absorb CO2. Bamboo is antibacterial and therefore does not require the use of pesticides during cultivation. The fabric absorbs up to 70% more moisture than cotton and is very breathable, which makes it feel cool in summer and its insulating qualities provide comfortable warmth in winter.

Care bath collection The towels of the Beddinghouse Care collection are very environmentally friendly. Bamboo fibres have a natural rapid growth and is known to improve soil fertility, reduce soil erosion and absorb CO2. The Care cotton towels are made of a combination of 60% high quality cotton of 550 gr/m2 and 40% bamboo. This gives it a volumnious hotel quality and a super soft feel. In addition, it absorbs moisture very well, is breathable and quick-drying.

Beddinghouse x Van Gogh Museum Collection Bedding House is proud to be the official partner of the Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam. The unique collaboration between the Van Gogh Museum and Bedding House results in a very special colllection of bedroom, bath and kitchen textiles. Each design is inspired by one of Vincent van Gogh’s paintings.

Japan theme

Japan

This season, the inspiration for our collection, came from a period, when Vincent was inspired by Oriental art. Japanese printmaking was one of Vincent’s biggest sources of inspiration, starting in 1887. The designs of the products are inspired on the paintings; Flowering Plum Orchard (after Hiroshige) and Peach Tree in Blossom.

Japanese floor cushions Inspired by traditional Japanese floor cushions, the Zabuton decorative cushion completes the collection around the Japanese theme. The decorative cushions in ochre and red have a three-pointed embroidery stitch in the centre that traditionally indicates the direction you are supposed to sit on it. In the centre and at the corners, you will see subtle light red tassels that originally symbolise good luck in Japanese culture.

Peach Tree in Blossom The tree Van Gogh painted was just a frail little sapling. But filling the whole length and breadth of the canvas with it gives it something majestic. Van Gogh learned this technique of isolating, enlarging and foregrounding a single element of a landscape from Japanese woodcuts. He admired Japanese prints enormously and constantly tried to equal them in his paintings. It was the height of spring. Van Gogh said that he had six paintings of ‘blossoming fruit trees’ on the go. He hoped paintings of this appealing subject would sell well.

The White Orchard Soon after Van Gogh arrived in Arles, the spring came. There were many fruit orchards around the city. He enthusiastically painted a large series of studies of orchards in blossom. These plum trees were poorly maintained, as their long branches show. Van Gogh was especially fond of timeworn trees like these.

Plum Blossoms Van Gogh was a great admirer of Japanese art. He wrote that it made him happy and cheerful. He made three paintings after Japanese prints from his own collection. This gave him a chance to explore the Japanese printmakers’ style and use of colour. The first of these copies is based on Utagawa Hiroshige’s Plum Garden in Kameido. Van Gogh accurately reproduced the composition but made the colours much more intense. He replaced the black and grey of Hiroshige’s tree trunk with red and blue tones. He also added the two orange borders with Japanese characters for a decorative and exotic effect.

Almond trees flower early in spring. The tree therefore marks the arrival of spring and the start of new life. And that was very appropriate in this case, as Vincent didn’t paint this work for just any old reason. The painting was a gift for his brother and the birth of his son.

Almond Blossom In January 1890 Theo wrote to Vincent that his wife Johanna had given birth to a son. The baby was to be named Vincent Willem, after his godfather. As a gift for the new arrival Vincent painted a picture of one of his favourite subjects, large branches of blossom against a blue sky. He thought that the work could be hung above the marital bed. Vincent chose the branches of the almond tree as a symbol of new life for the almond is one of the earliest trees to blossom, heralding spring in February. The artist drew his inspiration for the welldefined contouring and positioning of the tree in the picture plane from Japanese prints.

Nature was hugely important to Vincent. It endlessly inspired and comforted him. In the south of France he searched for the colour and light, he made many different flowers in both natural landscape and prepared still life settings.

Sunflowers A symphony in blue and yellow was how Van Gogh thought the interior of the yellow house should appear when Gauguin arrived. He wanted to impress his friend with a series of decorative still lifes of sunflowers. These still lifes were to grace the walls of Gauguin’s bedroom and be framed with ‘thin slats of wood, painted in red lead’. Van Gogh started the series with great ardour. He had to work quickly as the flowers quickly wilted in a vase: ‘I am painting with the enthusiasm of a resident of Marseilles eating bouillabaisse [Provençal fish soup], which shall not surprise you, when it involves painting large sunflowers’. Gauguin considered the paintings highly successful and declared that sunflowers should be Van Gogh’s trademark. Vincent later produced two loose copies, one of which is now in the Van Gogh Museum.

Small Bottle with Peonies and Blue Delphiniums Van Gogh painted this flower still life on a simple piece of card,using rapid, loose brushstrokes. It is one of many studies in which he experimented with the effects of different colours on each other. His brother Theo wrote to their mother: ‘He is mainly painting flowers, with the aim of making future pictures brighter in colour’. Theo wrote that acquaintances were giving Van Gogh a bunch of flowers every week. This was one of the first bunches he painted; many more were to follow.

Trees and Undergrowth In Paris, Van Gogh experimented with the Pointillist stippling technique. This woodland scene is a good example. He covered the entire canvas with small dots of paint. The result is a play of light and shadow on the ground between the trees. The strip of yellow in the middle suggests the sunlight of a clearing in the distance. Along with the tree trunk on the right, it brings depth to the scene.

Boulevard de Clichy Boulevard de Clichy is one of the major streets in the Paris district of Montmartre, where many artists lived. Van Gogh painted the junction that he often crossed. Rue Lepic, where he lived with his brother Theo, began on the right, just beyond the edge of the picture. In Paris, Van Gogh was exposed to the latest art movements of his day, Impressionism and Pointillism. This gradually led him to use lighter colours. He also experimented with a variety of painting techniques. His style of brushwork, with many dashes of paint side by side, shows the influence of these art movements. In the same paintings, he also tried out diluted oil paint.

Self-portraits

The majority of them – over 25 – were done while he was in Paris (1886–1888). He was short of money in that period and struggled to find models. So the artist chose the simplest solution and painted himself. To save money, he sometimes painted selfportraits on the back of other paintings. By doing that, he avoided the costs not only of a model but also of expensive canvas. Three self-portraits are used on our decorative cushion designs.

Autumn/Winter '23 collection A lifelong passion for nature combined with a desire to show people what is right there in their backyard is the source of Marjolein’s inspiration. Marjolein’s artwork exhibits her endless curiosity and fascination with nature. The collection brings that sentiment straight into your home. Capturing her love for nature, this bedding collection is a collaborative effort between Marjolein Bastin and Bedding House.

Marjolein’s love for nature started at a young age. While exploring her parents’ garden in Loenen aan de Vecht, every creature, flower and plant captured her imagination. Projecting her fascination with the natural world onto a piece of paper has been her life’s mission, starting with a few sketches she drew for her mother to the paintings that give all of us a glimpse into Marjolein’s world. Her travels give Marjolein the opportunity to give us a glimpse into what nature has to offer throughout the world. No insect too small, no flower too timid, Marjolein uncovers elements in nature that are easily overlooked by others. A butterfly fluttering over a field of wildflowers, a squirrel hastily stocking its food reserves, a lone cuckoo flower on the lawn; suddenly they take center stage. All the designs show her love for nature and emphasize that happiness can be found close to home.
