Course Outline • Full-time - 12 hours approximately each week over 2 days plus another 12 hours independent study. • Part-time (Blended) - Online with regular tutorials over 2 years, but possible to complete in 1 year. • Pre-Access – 7.5 hrs over 2 days which includes English and maths Functional Skills (GCSE equivalent).
Entry Criteria • To go to university you will need to have GCSE (level 2) qualifications in both maths and English. • For those following the Teacher Education you will also need a science GCSE. • You may be able to study either maths of English alongside the Access course depending upon an initial assessment before interview (except on the blended courses).
Entry Criteria contd…. Full Time courses • Must be 19+ • Level 2 Qualifications (GCSE Grade C or 4 or above) in English and Maths and, on the Teacher diploma, Science is a requirement • Completion of an online test in English and Maths if you do not already have level 2. • A successful interview • A firm idea of which Degree programme you wish to apply for (including five university choices) • Basic IT Literacy (competency with Word, PowerPoint and Excel) • Commitment and self motivation!

Blended Learning Blended learning is a primarily an online version of the Access course over 2 years but possible to complete in 1 year. This is a very intense and independent course and you must have familiarity with online learning Lessons, resources and assessments are completed online and can be studied at any time. In class group seminars and one to one tutorials are scheduled monthly to provide additional support. Blended Learning Access Diplomas are available in: Health Professions Humanities & Social Science
Assessments Methods The course is assessed using various methods including: – Essays – Presentations – Digital Assignments – Discussions – Exams – Seminars
Personal Tutor You will have a Personal Tutor throughout the course who will help you to achieve in the following areas • • • • • • • •
Academic Writing Applying to University (UCAS) Essay Structuring Academic Research Study Skills (Cognassist) Referencing Planning Uploading assignments for marking
Personal Tutor contd…. Help you learn to self-track and evaluate your progress. Support offer support throughout the year via one to one meetings. Assist with any wider issues including financial, personal, safeguarding as well as motivation issues. Help with your Personal Statements and UCAS provide a reference for you application process.
Pre- Access • Cost £250 (free if you are Benefits e.g. Universal Support) • If you do not currently meet the entry criteria you will be offered the Pre-Access course. This 1 year course acts as a direct feeder into the Access course and will develop your skills You will study: • •
Maths and English Functional Skills (extra £30 resource fee for each course) Level 2 Pre-Access specific course (Study Skills)
First 6 Weeks (Introductory Course) • The first 6 weeks you will be on an introductory course this will enable you to: • Try the course before fully committing • Be assessed by your tutors to ensure you are on the right course • If you are applying for an Advanced Learner Loan you will put the start date as 2nd November

This year the course fees can be paid by an Advanced Learner loan for all 24+ and 19-23 if you already have a level 3 qualification.

This needs to be applied for via the Advanced Learner Loans Company.

When you successfully complete your Access course and your chosen degree, the cost of the Access Diploma is written off.
•
Please bear in mind – if you withdraw from the course after the first 6 weeks you will be charged for the full fees.
