MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Bedford College is recognised as one of the best further education providers in the UK. It is the largest college in the region for 16-18 education, apprenticeship training, higher education and parttime education. Our growth over the last decade is an amazing achievement given a stable population, new competitors and being based in one of the region’s smaller market towns. Achieving this reputation and growth comes down to effective partnership working. We work with community organisations and employers who are committed to the development of their staff. We work with our employees and governors who also invest in their own development and use their skills to help our students. And, of course, we work with our excellent students who continue to push themselves to gain qualifications that are recognised nationally and internationally.
We want everyone in our community to have the chance to achieve these positive outcomes. Our recent merger with Tresham College in Northamptonshire means we can now provide even more opportunities to even more people. This is our aspiration. I hope you will take a few minutes to read on and find out more.

This summer, the Bedford College Corporation approved a merger with Tresham College in Northamptonshire to create The Bedford College Group. We are determined to continue investing in our staff, our programmes, our infrastructure and our high-quality service, even in this period of uncertainty, and the extra scale and capacity arising from the merger means that we will be even better able to serve our community in the future.

OUR FUTURE PLANS
NEW ANIMAL CENTRE FOR SHUTTLEWORTH COLLEGE The Animal Centre situated on the Shuttleworth Estate, Old Warden in Bedfordshire, has been established for 17 years and is in need of replacement, allowing us to meet modern requirements of care for sound zoological standards. We work alongside zoos and wildlife parks and provide quality education within a specialist focus of living things and caring for the environment; helping to maintain vulnerable species whilst broadening the skills of students and visitors as a whole. The development, due to open in September 2019, is planned to provide many years of educational service, to enhance studentsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; understanding and ability to really make a difference within the natural world.
WORK EXPERIENCE
The College recognises that young people from the local community gain valuable experience and employability skills by engaging in work experience. Meaningful work experience contributes to an individualâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s preparation for progression to employment or Further and Higher Education. Work experience is therefore an integral part of all study programmes and is now included in all areas for full-time students. This applies to students choosing to enter a particular occupation or profession or those taking a technical route to achieve their career aims. Students have similar opportunities to benefit from work experience, including work placements and other work-related learning activities, across all curriculum areas. The College is to receive funding as part of the work placement capacity development project to deliver the extended work placements proposed as part of the new Technical Level qualifications (T-Levels) being introduced to simplify the process of vocational training.

LEARNING CENTRES FOR KETTERING AND CORBY A new Learning Centre in Kettering opened in January 2018. This will be shortly followed by a provision in Corby. Both centres will offer the same model currently available in Bedford: • Flexible open-learning IT centre for adults • Open 56 hours each week (Monday – Saturday, including evenings) • Pre-booked 2-hour sessions (minimum of 2 sessions each week) • Microsoft Office 2016 • ITQ Level 1 and ITQ Extended Level 2 • No fees
ADVANCED ENGINEERING & CONSTRUCTION CENTRE On 9 February 2017 Bedford College unveiled details of its new £5 million Advanced Engineering & Construction Centre. The new Advanced Engineering & Construction Centre is essential to meet the skills required by UK businesses to maintain their place in the global economy. The Centre, due to open in 2018, will house newer, lighter, analytical equipment, BIM Software and robotics and will allow students to move through to the higher engineering and degree level training essential in today’s Engineering and Construction Industry. It will increase student numbers by an additional 300 full-time and part-time students and 150 higher level apprentices each year - meeting some of the huge demand from employers for skilled Engineers. The space will provide students with room to experiment with intelligent design, analyse and assess problems, and develop real life solutions in the safety of the classroom and the virtual world environment.

We offer a wide range of higher education courses at both Bedford College and Shuttleworth College campuses with fantastic support and expert teaching. Many of our courses offer the opportunity to top-up to a full honours degree by studying for a final year at university. Our partnerships with two local universities offer a seamless transfer, or there is always the opportunity to move on to a different university with your newly acquired knowledge and skills. New for this year, we are also offering BA and BSc (Hons) degrees.

THE BEDFORD SIXTH FORM THE BEDFORD SIXTH FORM IS THE ONLY INSTITUTION IN BEDFORD SOLELY DEDICATED TO SIXTH FORM STUDY. Since its foundation in 2014 The Bedford Sixth Form has continually achieved excellent results and students benefit from specialist expertise. In 2017 the proportion of high grades at A-Level increased by a further 7%, enabling even more students to get into their first choice of university â&#x20AC;&#x201C; including many prestigious Russell Group institutions.

BEDFORD COLLEGE SERVICES Bedford College Services (BCS) is the commercial wing of Bedford College. It is a multi-faceted enterprise that operates across the leisure, hospitality, catering, theatre and facilities hire sectors across the College estate.
OUR VISION BCS will become a significant contributor to educational funding within Bedford College, through the provision of hospitality, sport, leisure and entertainment services to Bedford and the surrounding community.
OUR MISSION BCS will provide a suite of services for staff and students and build a range of commercially viable activities and services to external customers, utilising the Collegeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s assets for both educational and financial benefit.

We currently hire out Trinity Arts & Leisure for swimming, sports and fitness and theatre events. We pride ourselves on offering excellent customer service, high-quality facilities, enjoyable classes, a strong safety record and unrivalled value.
This beautiful hall is the perfect venue for wedding ceremonies and special occasions, helping you to celebrate in style. Situated in the heart of Bedford town centre, the magnificent Grand Hall, Bromham Road is steeped in history. Dating back to 1882, this stunning ground floor room is now fully licensed for weddings and civil partnership ceremonies for up to 150 guests.

Munch & Mocha is the brand that encompasses the catering options offered by BCS across 3 sites: Munch & Mocha Trinity, Munch & Mocha Bedford and Munch & Mocha Shuttleworth. We offer refreshments and freshly cooked food to staff and students and also have the capacity to offer catering for external events.
The Venue Hub offers a wide range of facilities hire to external organisations and individuals for meetings, events and experiences. Our offer includes: theatres, a sports hall, a dance studio, recording and rehearsal studios, digital editing suites, a tv studio and a variety of meeting and conference rooms. www.thevenuehub.com
