Materials Apprentice A14 Cambridge/Huntingdon – Balfour Beatty/Carillion/Costain/Skanska Vacancy description Working within the site laboratory you will carry out site-based and laboratory testing for concrete, bituminous material, aggregates and soils. The results of these tests will be used to improve the performance of existing products, to eliminate faults with materials already in use, and as a quality control check to make sure all materials comply with customer and contract specification. Higher Apprentice Mechanical Workshop Technician - Cambridge Closing date: 20 August 2017 We currently have a vacancy for a Higher Apprentice in our mechanical workshop. The role is workshop based and the use of machine tools is the primary skill along with computer aided design (CAD), for which training will be given. The workshop design, manufacture, and modify a wide range of complex research and teaching equipment. The many disciplines within Chemistry present a range of interesting and challenging design problems for our engineers. Some areas of interest are High Pressure Systems, Ultra High Vacuum, Low and High temperature work and Upper Atmosphere environments, making the work varied and interesting especially when combining more than one of the above. The successful applicant will be required to undertake a day release BTEC HNC Diploma in Mechanical Engineering in the first instance but could go on to take a part time degree in Integrated Engineering (optional). Ideally you will be computer literate, able to communicate 10


effectively, enthusiastic, have the ability to express clearly technical details and show evidence of practical problem-solving skills. Skills required include the ability to concentrate for extended periods, good manual dexterity and the ability to learn quickly. Applicants should hold or be expected to achieve 2 A levels at grade D or above to include Mathematics and preferably Physics or other Science subjects, or a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering or Electrical/ Electronic Engineering (MMM), and 4 GCSE's at C Grade or above (or equivalent) including Mathematics, English and a science-based subject as a minimum.

ZSL Animal Careers Conference – 29 August 2017 This is a one-day conference hosted at ZSL London Zoo and aimed at people aged 16+ who are interested in pursuing an animal based career. The conference will begin with a talk from a keynote speaker to tell you the story of an exciting career. There will then be four sessions throughout the day where ZSL speakers from different departments will give you short insights into their careers and how they got there. There will also be four short, practical activities to consolidate your knowledge of each theme of work. Lunch and refreshments will be provided and you will be able to access the zoo at lunch time and after the conference has ended. This conference will be most useful to students aged 16+ who know they would like to work with animals, but are not sure what direction to go in. There are many diverse and varied animal careers and this event will aim to give you an overview of some of them.
