Kettering General Hospital win Work Placement Provider of the Year Award The Bedford College Group’s annual Achievement Awards Celebration was held on Thursday 18th November. The event marked the successes of students and staff and, for the first time, the Group gave awards highlighting the commitment of companies to training tomorrow’s employees. The first employer awards by the Group were won by Kettering General Hospital as Work Placement Provider of the Year, Leibherr as Apprenticeship Provider, and Anyvan UK for Employer Engagement. The Group recognised Kettering General Hospital as Work Placement Provider of the Year due to the way it has supported students with placements during the pandemic. Over the last 12 months, Kettering General Hospital and the Group have worked closely to provide work experience for students, including taking 70 students as Ward Hosts at the height of the pandemic to support frontline hospital staff.
Students helped with tasks including talking to patients, supporting with meals, and enabling patients to contact relatives through virtual visiting software whilst face-to-face hospital visits were not allowed due to COVID-19 restrictions. The work placements offered by Kettering General Hospital have been a great success and some students have gone on to get jobs there after finishing their studies. Sarah Nolan, Head of Health, Care & Early Years at Tresham College, said: “Students are really pleased to help out and see, first hand, what sort of opportunities working in healthcare provides. “Moving forward, the work placement scheme will continue and the hospital has also agreed to provide T-Level placements for the new Health T-Level programme which launched this year.”
