ACT WITH CAUTION IF YOU RECEIVE A SUSPICIOUS TELEPHONE CALL The Trading Standards team has been made aware of a number of suspicious unsolicited telephone calls either raising concerns over the safety of, or offering to improve the performance of, a resident’s loft insulation. Callers have been reported as claiming that there may be a safety issue with loft insulation recently fitted or even offering to spray a resident’s loft to help make the loft insulation more effective. Some callers have claimed to be associated with a ‘green deal’ or grant scheme. The callers try to obtain personal details from residents by asking a series of questions and then attempt to arrange for a representative to visit the resident’s home to discuss further options.

Do not provide any personal details to a caller who has contacted you out of the blue. If you’re interested in what is being offered by the caller, take time to verify any claims being made and seek further advice by contacting local reputable businesses. If you do have doubts about a telephone call you’ve received, then do not be afraid to end the call by simply hanging up! If you receive a telephone call that you suspect maybe a scam, please report it by calling us on 0808 223 1133.

We would urge anyone who receives any type of unsolicited telephone call to act with caution. Never be intimidated into making a quick decision and always take a moment to ask yourself if the caller is genuine.

Please help protect others from falling victim to this type of scam, by letting your family, friends and neighbours know about this alert.
