OCEAN
Minor Project PAPAY GYRO NIGHTS 2015 CALL FOR ARTISTS (VIDEO ART) Theme: OCEAN (as place, action, philosophy, folklore) Deadline: 3rd November 2014 By Rebecca Wilson
I started my research by taking pictures of the ocean. The ocean can be a very calming place but there is always that uncertainty of what is beneathe the surface.

Theme: Ocean (as place, action, philosophy, folklore)
As the theme is Ocean I decided to look at Folklore and Sea Creatures. Most of the images found were primarily mermaids or sea urchins.
The colour palette used in these images create the mythical, enchnated feel and that is something I would like to highlight in my project.
Scottish Folklore After finding that there is a Scottish Folklore Sea creature known as a “Kelpie.” It led me to the Kelpies in Falkirk.
After having a general over look on Sea creatures and Folklore, I wanted to narrow my search down further by looking into Scottish Folklore. The most known folklore sea creature in Scotland is of course the “Loch Ness Monster”, but I found one which comes in the form of a horse and it is know as the “Sea Kelpie” or “Kelpie”

The Project
Autodesk Maya was used to create a 3D horse to represent the shape and form of a Kelpie. I anchored the model which enabled the object to be animated given the impression that the Kelpie is alive instead of a static image.
The Project
Adobe After Effects was used to create mythical shapes, using neon colours and glow which created this light effect.
Aswell as using a drip effect I was able to create the impression of water which links back to the idea of the Ocean.
The Proposal For the final outcome I would like to combine both the Maya horse with the After effects lighting. I have this image of the camera view moving around the horse as it animates and having the light and water effects moving throughout and within the horse. The video will be create in Adobe Premiere with the combination of After Effects and Maya. I would really like to try projecting my work actually onto the kelpies in Falkirk. If projecting onto the Kelpies is unsuccessful or not do-able then I will create a space or project onto a wall to try out my video. Experiment with overlay images to see how the effects would work on the model. These still images will all be animated and moving in the final outcome.
