Welcome to Japan
TOKYO “Fusing the futuristic with the traditional, Tokyo is a sprawling mega city bursting with a seemingly limitless number of things to do. Tokyo is a business and cultural mega-center that's home to tens of millions of people. It's also the crossroads where the Japanese interact with citizens from all over the world. Tokyo is famous for its endless attractions, including museums, festivals, internationally noted cuisine, and professional sports clubs, including baseball, soccer, and traditional Japanese pursuits like sumo wrestling.”
KYOTO “Kyoto is world famous for its wonderful temples and shrines. But that’s only the beginning of the story. Kyoto was Japan's capital for over 1,000 years and still has many impressive remnants of its past glory. The city's stunning collection of UNESCO World Heritage sites alone would be enough to set it apart, but Kyoto also has a still-working geisha district, some of Japan's most exquisite cuisine, and lots of Zen Buddhist sites to explore. The city is also home to its share of hip cafes and modern art. Think of it as the cultural yin to Tokyo's yang, but with a sprinkling of modernity.”
GEISHA “Becoming a Geisha takes as long as it does to become a doctor. Geisha, their proper name being Geikoor Maiko, have been entertaining Japan’s elite since the 7th century. These traditional entertainers have been rigorously trained in classical Japanese arts, music, dance and conversation. There used to be about 80,000 geisha during the early Shōwaera (1926-1989). Nowadays, estimates suggest that there are just 600 in the entire country.”
