The streets and history of New York have always been an inspiration for us. Hanging out in the Lower East Side during our latest trip. Originally, "Lower East Side" referred to the area alongside the East River from about the Manhattan Bridge and Canal Street up to 14th Street, and roughly bounded on the west by Broadway. It included areas known today as East Village, Alphabet City, Chinatown, Bowery, Little Italy, and NoLIta. Although the term today refers to the area bounded to the north by East Houston Street, parts of East Village are still known as Loisaida, a Latino pronunciation of "Lower East Sider." Enjoy.
East Village was once the Lower East Side's northwest corner alongside Greenwich Village. However, in the 60s, the demographics of
the area above Houston Street began to change, as hippies, musicians and artists moved in.

Gingham (also known as Vichy) is a fabric made from dyed cotton yarn. The name is Indonesian in origin, assimilated into Dutch. It was introduced into the English language by French (Breton) weavers who referred to is "guingan," a term they applied to indicate cloth made from stripped coloring. Today in French ginham is called "vichy" presumably because Vichy became a manufacturing center for the cloth. When originally imported (in the 17th century), it was a striped fabric, but from the mid 18th century, when it was being produced in the mills of Manchester, England, it had become woven into checked or plaid patterns (often blue and white). Gingham is made of carded or combed, medium or fine yarns, where the coloring is on the warp yarns and always along the grain. Gingham has no right or wrong side regarding color.

The Bowery is the name of a street and a small neighborhood in the southern portion of the New York City borough of Manhattan. The neighborhood's boundaries are East 4th Street and the East Village to the north, Canal Street and Chinatown to the South, Allen Street and the Lower East Side to the east and Bowery (the street) and Little Italy to the west.
