Registration Information General Information:
No registrations will be accepted until 8:30 a.m. on the first day of registration. Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Register for your first program and receive your second and additional programs at 25% off. Registration must be for the same participant in the same session to apply. If the program you want is full or cancelled, you will be notified by telephone before the program start date. Please be sure to provide us with both your home and work numbers. Receipts for registrations received by fax or telephone will be mailed. There will be no reduction in registration fees for persons starting a program after the first class or lesson of a program. A class missed cannot be made up at any other time or in any other session.
$15.00. In the event of a medical withdrawal, the refund will be issued on a pro-rated basis. All refunds will be returned by cheque. Please allow 2-3 weeks for processing.
Inclusive Recreation:
All Recreation programs offered by the City of Belleville are provided in an inclusive environment. Participants who wish to bring a support person for assistance are always welcome in any of our Recreation Programs. Financial assistance in the form of fee reductions is available for families and individuals that qualify. Please see our fee assistance policy or call our office for more information.
Children’s Fitness Tax Benefit:
As of January 1, 2007, a Children’s Fitness Tax Credit was introduced. Eligible programs must provide 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity for children less than 10 years and 60 minutes for children 10 to 16 years. Many of our Recreation Programs qualify. Please keep your copy of all registration receipts for income tax purposes.
Please register early to avoid program cancellation due to low enrollment. Insufficient registrations may necessitate the cancellation of the program. Refunds will be issued by cheque only. Please allow 2-3 weeks for processing.

We believe that all residents of Belleville should be given the opportunity to enjoy the many benefits of participating in recreation activities, regardless of their financial situation.
Who is eligible?
Residents of Belleville; Families and/or individuals living below the “Low-Income Cut Off” (LICO) level are eligible to apply and the subsidy assistance amount will be determined on an individual basis, with subsidies from 25% to 75% off the cost of the program. Should there be a request for assistance from a resident who exceeds the income levels on the Recreation Subsidy Chart, an assessment will be completed to determine other options for payment and/or support to the applicant.
What is available for subsidy?
If approved the applicant will be eligible to register for the following number of programs/workshops per year: · A maximum of 5 weeks of summer camps · A maximum of 2 sessions of aquatic lessons · A maximum of 1 session of skating lessons · A maximum of 1 program/workshop per session (4 sessions per year), for all other programs · Up to 50% off Dryland Training Studio, Swim, Gym & Skate Passes

Drop off your application (or fax or e-mail) and make an appointment by calling 613-967-3200 ext. 3822. At the appointment, bring in the applicant’s (or parent/guardian, if under 18) Personal Income Tax Notice/ GST/Child Tax Credit Assessment Forms from Revenue Canada or acceptable proof of income for every member of the household over the age of 18 and one piece of picture ID that shows current address or a picture ID and a utility bill/rental agreement showing current address. You will be notified within 5 business days of the subsidy available. You only need to apply for the subsidy once per year and if approved your name will be placed on a list, enabling you to register for programs without having to re-apply each time. The balance of the registration fee must be paid at least 10 days before the program/workshop begins.
Programs must have the minimum required number of participants enrolled in order for it to run.
playing for keeps program
The “Playing for Keeps” program strives to give all children and youth the opportunity to experience the fun of being a child. “Playing for Keeps” is a special fund distributed and administered by the Quinte Children’s Foundation, which helps pay for the cost of registration so children can participate in recreational programs. Ranger Patrol
Not old enough to take Bronze Medallion yet? Swimmers develop better strokes over 75 m swims of each stroke. They tackle lifesaving sport skills in a lifesaving medley, timed object support and rescue with a buoyant aid. Step two

Bronze Star
This course prepares you for Bronze Medallion. Participants develop problem-solving and decision-making skills and work on both swimming and lifesaving skills, timed 400m swim.

Aqua Fitness ClasSes Join us for an hour of healthy exercise led by our certified water fitness instructors. Classes are for both men and women and you need not be a swimmer. These head-to-toe workouts are great on your joints and provide lots of fun in the pool as well as leave you feeling great! Aqua Fitness: This class is taught in our Main Pool and offers a full body workout. Equipment such as pool noodles and dumbbells may be used as well as a variety of intensity levels for all fitness levels. Get ready to dance, jump and splash your way to a healthy lifestyle. Therapy Fitness: This class is taught in our Therapy
Pool where the water temperature is kept at 92 degrees. The class focuses on range of motion, flexibility and gentle exercises for muscle tone.
Deep Water: This class is taught in the deep end of the Main Pool and is the best class for getting into shape. Stay afloat by using an aqua belt or noodle and feel your muscles burn! Diaper Fit: This parent and baby class is taught in the therapy pool where the water temperature is 92 degrees. This class is a great workout for parents trying to get into shape. Bring along your baby aged 4 months – 18 months and while they hang out in a dolphin - you do all the work! There is a strict one child per adult ratio.

Aquatics Special Aquatic Programs Swim to Survive® Swim to survive® is a free program offered to grade 3 students through the school board and lifesaving society. Swim to Survive® teaches the essentials needed to survive an unexpected fall into deep water - an important first step to being safe around water.
Swim@School Swim@School is a comprehensive swimming and water safety program that is designed to fit into the existing curriculum and complements physical education programs. Red Cross Swim@School is intended to increase access to swimming lessons and targets school-aged children as a key audience for water safety training. The program uses simple language and fun activities to teach children the vital skills they need to stay healthy, stay safe and prevent drowning. Swim@School is available for all students grades 1 – 8.

Our Pre-School & Discover Skate Programs offers recreational skating lessons for children ages three years old and up. Participants are grouped according to their skating ability. Lessons are 25 minutes long and Helmets, mittens or gloves are mandatory for all participants. A practice area is provided for those registered in our Learn to Skate programs and their caregiver. Practice time will be available either before or after their skating lesson. If your child has never been on skates and/or needs assistance standing on skates, parents are welcome to bring their own skates and helmet to participate. Note: Parents must also wear a helmet & skates if they are on the ice for these programs. •• The following are the guidelines that should be followed when registering your child in these “Learn to Skate” programs. Programs specially designed for older adults provide a choice of activities and social opportunities. Meet new friends, visit with old ones, keep active and involved, and stay healthy. Our health and wellness programs, special interest programs, aquatics, special events and workshops will keep you busy and active throughout the year. There are a variety of health and wellness programs that are geared towards all levels of abilities. From strengthening, low impact cardio and yoga classes for those who are able to move independently, to classes such as Chair Yoga and Movement Improvement designed for older adults who have some limitations.

Pickleball is a new, extremely popular sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. It is played on a court with the same dimensions as a doubles badminton court and is played with a hard paddle and a whiffle ball. Keep Active, Meet New Friends & Have Fun!
Our children & youth programs are designed to give the opportunity to learn new skills, work on existing ones and learn the value of teamwork while staying fit and healthy. Our facility is a registered â&#x20AC;&#x153;High Fiveâ&#x20AC;? organization. Belleville was recently awarded the designation of being a YOUTH FRIENDLY Community and we achieved the Bronze level of this designation. Our community continues to develop youth programming and will be working over the next 5 years to move up to a silver designation. From training for triathlons to staying healthy with our fitness programs, there are programs to interest children and youth of all ages and abilities from Tumbling Toddlers, Preschoolers in Motion, Kids in The Kitchen, Family Fitness, to Yoga and Pilates for teens.
Sports: Whether you want to learn some new skills or
just have fun and meet some new friends playing a variety of sports; the gymnasium will provide you with hours of enjoyment and the opportunity to stay active. Programs for all ages are recreational and non-competitive with the focus on learning skills, building teamwork and having fun.

Teen Floorball
Floorball is a fast-paced, exciting, safe and low-cost type of coed indoor hockey. It resembles floor hockey or ball hockey but is played with light-weight plastic composite sticks, a whiffle ball and rules that promote safety and skill. This course is designed for students ages 11 and up who would like to become more confident in areas of emergency procedures, fire and first aid safety, care of infants and toddlers and how to keep children busy. Camp Staff The City of Belleville only hires the most experienced and qualifed staff for all their Day Camp Programs! • Supervision by both a full-time Program Supervisor and a Summer Day Camp Coordinator. Every camp also has a Senior and Junior Leaders. • All staff are CERTIFIED in Standard First Aid and CPR ‘C’. • Staff participate in a week-long intense training session. • Most Senior Leaders are studying and/or graduates in the fields of: Child & Youth Worker, Social Service Workers, Early Childhood Education and Teachers. • All staff are individuals with extensive experience working with children.

Lunches are made in a “nut-free” kitchen. Lunch ideas will include: Chicken Caesar Wraps, 6” subs, sandwiches, homemade muffins & cookies, veggies & dip, fruit, granola bars and more! Hunger Games
Throughout this week you will live the life of a tribute selected in the reaping for the Hunger Games. You will undergo a Capitalstyle makeover, attend the Opening Ceremony for the Hunger Games, train with your mentor and the Game Makers, be rated, interviewed and thrown into the arena. Throughout your journey you will be required to complete certain training activities to better prepare you for the Games. You will need all the preparation you can get for inside the arena. Gear up and get ready to uncover the truth behind popular myths by using scientific inquiry! Just like the popular TV show, you will take on the myths and prove or bust them, and have lots of fun doing it! An interactive sports and swimming camp! Participants are introduced to a variety of dry land sports and water sports, as well as attending daily swims and other traditional activities.

All participants will attend a two day workshop that focuses on building & enhancing self-esteem, confidence, leadership and initiative skills, as well as, program planning for camp, resume and application writing, and interview practice. Included will be a one day Emergency First Aid & CPR ‘B’ certification course. Youth will practice their newly learned skills at a real camp placement experience. Participants also receive a T-shirt. Upon completion of the program, candidates will receive an evaluation, a Youth Leadership Development Certificate as well as recognition of their camp placement experience for their Community Service hours. Community Parks LIONS PAVILION AT ZWICK’S PARK
The Lions Pavilion at Zwick’s Park, located very close to the old band shell features: • Fully accessible 6250 square feet of covered pavilion • Seating capacity of approximately 450 people • 2 foot high raised stage that is 20’ X 45’ that has suspended lighting truss, Bulkhead and suspended pipe frame • 1100 square foot ‘back of house’ that includes, secured storage, change rooms and a future washroom, a loading dock with accessible access to the stage • Improved electrical services • Lighting in the house • Acoustical ceiling treatments for improved sound • Speaker installations with the ability to add more performance speakers during special events • Facility will house events and smaller to medium sized performances with room for future enhancements

Recognizing Excellence in Sports
Do you know someone who has won an Ontario or Canadian Championship or has been a representative at an International Game? The City of Belleville, through its Honours and Awards Program, wants to recognize the achievements of any members of the various sports organizations within the City Limits who have won an Ontario or Canadian Championship, or have been chosen as a representative at any of the International Games. In order for an individual or team to be eligible, the following criteria must be met: • “Must be a winner of a recognized Open Ontario Championship, recognized Open Canadian competition or represent Canada in International Competition” • “Must be a member of a Belleville based club or organization or an individual who is a resident of the City of Belleville” • “The competition must be held in 2014” • “The competition must be open to any individual”

The Community Archives preserves and cares for the historical papers, photographs, maps and other materials that tell the stories of our communities, as they were recorded by people who lived at the time. Researching your family or house? Looking for information about the “old days” in Belleville or Hastings County? hastings County historical Society The Historical Society holds public presentations on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:30 pm at the Quinte Living Centre auditorium, 370 Front Street, Belleville (north door). Everyone welcome, no registration or admission fees. Spring dates are: TUESDAY, MARCH 18: Radio personality Sean Kelly will discuss the 68-year history of CJBQ Radio in Quinte. TUESDAY, APRIL 22: “Stories from the Archives” - the Archive Volunteers will present some of the fascinating stories found in the pictures and documents at the Community Archives. This annual event is always a hit! Topics to be discussed this year include war, women’s work, early airplanes and more. TUESDAY, MAY 20: Historian Cathie Jones will speak on the history of the Marmora Mines. The Historical Society’s Annual Bus Tour will be on Saturday, June 7 (First tour on May 24 is now sold out). The theme for this day-long excursion is “Ghost Towns and Pioneer Villages in Our Backyard – Part 2.” Explore rural Hastings County with our historical sleuths and learn about many of the villages that once thrived but later disappeared or declined. GLANMORE NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE

Discover Belleville’s Treasure! Glanmore National Historic Site was built in 1882-1883 for wealthy banker J.P.C. Phillips (1842-1912). Glanmore’s rooms have been recently restored and feature original furnishings as well as beautiful objects from the Couldery Collection. Self-guided tours of Glanmore are available year-round. Join in this global movement by planning a trip to your local museum on this special day. Fundraising Plant Sale Saturday, May 31st, 2014 – 8am to 1pm Don’t miss this fantastic plant sale just in time for the Spring planting season! Stop by the front lawn of Glanmore National Historic Site, 257 Bridge Street East and pick up some things for the garden. The plant sale will feature perennials, gardening books, accessories and a bake sale too. Funds raised from this sale will be used in support of museum activities.
