FARMERS’ MARKET The Farmers’ Market has been operating in Downtown Belleville for over two centuries. Constructed in 1872-73, five years before Belleville became a city, the original City Hall building housed an indoor market on the first floor and, on the second floor, a public hall and municipal office. Whenever you are in the Quinte region, check out the rich variety of crafts and produce at the Belleville Farmers’ Market. In the spring, the market comes alive with maple syrup and crafts, and remains a ‘hive of activity’ right through the Christmas season. It’s not uncommon to see local restauranteurs picking up produce on market days to ensure that they are serving the freshest food.
The market is located in historic Market Square behind City Hall, and is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays all year round. “On a busy summer Saturday there can be up to 2,000 shoppers strolling through Market Square to meet our local producers for farm fresh products.”

CYCLING NETWORK
Belleville has committed to developing a full cycling network by approving over $9 million in cycling infrastructure and improvements. The Belleville Cycling Network has been developed based on community input on what cycling projects were priorities. Over the past two years the City of Belleville has opened our first on-street bicycle lanes, constructed a new path along a major arterial road, paved and lit existing paths, begun construction on the first phase of an active transportation path connecting Loyalist College to Downtown Belleville and completed design work for a new footbridge that will accommodate cyclists into our newly revitalized Downtown. As a result of these efforts, the City of Belleville was awarded with a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Community Award in 2017. BELLEVILLE.CA

TAKE A STROLL DOWN MEMORY LANE
In 1995, during the East Bayshore Waterfront Development Phase ll, a trail system was developed between Herchimer Avenue and South George Street. This development, known as South Foster Park, features the CN Train Monument, Memory Lane and a gazebo at the fish habitat wildlife area, better known as turtle pond. Memory Lane is a section of the trail that commemorates people’s loved ones with engraved bricks. The idea is similar to the stones in the CN Monument, an area of the trail that commemorates our railroaders. The Gazebo provides a perfect view of the beautiful Bay of Quinte for those enjoying the waterfront trail along Memory Lane.
HISTORY RESTS HERE
Belleville Cemetery is the resting place of Canada’s fifth Prime Minister Mackenzie Bowell, Canadian author Susanne Moodie and her husband, Dunbar Moodie, the first Sheriff of Hastings County, and an early pioneer in Deaf Education in Ontario Samuel Thomas Greene. The revival of the Elmwood Cemetery is largely due to Corbyville Distillery. After operating a bakery in Belleville and running a steamer for several years in the 1830s, Henry Corby settled in an area just south of Elmwood on the banks of the Moira, where a good site existed for a new grist mill. One of the ‘sidelines’ of running a grist mill was the distillation of liquor. Henry added a distillery to his operation, taking advantage of the sparkling water available. By 1859, the distillery was beginning to

overshadow the grist mill. Between then and 1881 when he died, Henry Corby became Mayor of Belleville and a Member of Parliament. As the village of Corbyville grew up around the distillery and mill, most of the workers preferred to live some distance from the fumes, and settled along the banks of the Moira to the north -- in the immediate vicinity of Elmwood Cemetery. OFF-LEASH AREAS
There are two off-leash areas in the Quinte region. The first is an off-leash trail (affectionately called the “Pooch Path”) at the Quinte Conservation area. The Pooch Path is not fenced and is used by those who wish to hike with their dog. For those who enjoy a more social experience, try the Quinte Dog Park at East Zwick’s Park. This is a three acre, totally fenced dog park with a double gated entrance for your safety
