Bellfield College Ashura Day 2021 Rise with Hussain: Live your Virtue
Dear parents and carers, Asalamu ‘Alaykum. Our sincerest condolences to the Imam of our time, Imam al-Mahdi (ʿaj), the Muslim community, and all of humanity on the upcoming commemoration of Imam Ḥusayn’s tragedy and legacy. In the guiding light of Bellfield’s Muharram 2021 theme Rise with Hussain: Live your Virtue, students have been learning about how to identify and live the virtues of Ashura in their daily lives. To mark the conclusion of this unit and to maintain our strong community spirit, Bellfield College warmly invites our K-12 students and families to partake in Bellfield’s online Ashura Day program on Friday 20 August 2021. The program will run across both campuses from 12:00pm to 2:30pm. Families are encouraged to support and join their children in our whole school's live congregational prayer from 12:00pm to 12:30pm, as Imam Husayn (a.s) established congregational prayer on the Day of Ashura despite the hardships he knew he was due to face. Following congregational prayer, the College will hold a live mourning session (‘azaa, masaib) from 12:30pm to 1:00pm in which students will experience a recount of events of the sad and tragic day and reflect on the lessons of virtue exhibited in Karbala. Parents and students will then tune into their ‘Stories of Virtue’ grade session from 1:00pm to 1:30pm. Our mentors and students will co-share their inspiring stories of virtue in the spirit of Ashura’s exemplary role models. Imam Husayn’s timeless example reminds us of our tri-partnership vision: “My life will be with your lives, my family with your families.” Our Ashura Day program will conclude with an optional live speech/Q&A session with two guest speakers from Al-Kisa Foundation from 1:40pm to 2:30pm, God willing. Class lessons will still run as usual throughout the week with an integration of the virtues of Ashura being delivered in key subjects on and before the day. We understand that many families may choose to commemorate the day with their respective communities and thus, may choose to be absent on that day.
