Please, please please remind your children to look after their property AND school property. Unfortunately many of our students are not looking after school property in the classroom and playground. Many items are misplaced, or broken when returned. Library books, home readers, classroom resources, sports equipment etc. Students who are found intentionally damaging school property, or simply not looking after and packing up school property will face consequences as per the school discipline code. As mentioned in last week's edition by myself and Mrs. Stevonson, our Lost Property bin is also overflowing! Let's work together to ensure our students are looking after their own and others property!

A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL This week I enjoyed seeing the junior school cross country in action, the stage 1 incursion in the library, and year 6 field work where a variety of insects were collected around campus and investigated! Thanks also to our dedicated and hardworking teachers for their recent contributions at our twilight professional development programming sessions. Always learning! Lastly, as is often the case in all schools, there has been a reported case of headlice. Please be vigilant in reading the attached information about head lice and check your child's head. Head lice is no cause for concern and is easily treated. Have a safe and restful weekend.

Warm regards Interview Miss Harold

JUNIOR RANGERS PROGRAM As part of the Junior Rangers Program, students in Year 6 used infrared cameras to explore urban heating. Urban heat is the result of high populated areas and increased energy consumption. Urban heat occurs when a city experiences much warmer temperatures than rural areas. Infrared cameras have a type of light that we cannot see with our eyes. It shows us how much heat something has and gives us an object’s temperature. Hot objects glow more brightly, and cold objects put out less infrared light and appear less bright. Students compared high energy consumption objects, such as air conditioning units, to cooler areas such as the taps. Now, imagine a highly populated area and a skyrise building with hundreds of AC units turned on!

MISS BALLOOT K-6 LITERACY & NUMERACY INSTRUCTIONAL LEADER
Dear Parents,
We have now entered our final week of Term 2 2021. I pray that The Holy Month of Ramadan was a fruitful and pious one. Inshallah Eid was spent with your nearest and dearest celebrating life, good health and practicing gratitude. Term 2 has been a busy term in classrooms on the front of teaching and learning. Teachers have been working on and refining practices through the delivery of their teaching and learning programs and the implementation of new skills learned in our may professional learning sessions. These sessions have been across the Key Learning Areas of Literacy, Numeracy also Science and Technology. It has been great to see all the wonderful work our students have produced across K-6 classrooms from the use of Technology, building toys from recyclable materials, creating environments for living things, and the physical engagement of students within our local and natural environments in and around the college grounds. Communication Partnership Program Over the years and based on the most current research and practices. The college has recognised and identified the importance of early intervention. The college has fully funded the Communication Partnership Program to take place across Terms 2 and 3 2021 for our K-2 cohort. Meredith an experienced speech pathologist will be onsite during school hours to provide students with a FREE speech pathology screening and speech-based assessments. The program aims to detect speech issues such as stutter, lisps, articulation of sounds and words and delays in understanding information. Undetected speech issues may interfere with a student’s learning abilities and subsequently hinder their academic potential. This will then assist our team in identifying a group of students who require ongoing intervention. A select number of Year 1 and 2 students will receive weekly group-based therapy delivered by Meredith onsite for the duration of Term 3 (one lesson a week). Once screening has been completed, parents will be notified if their child has been identified. as requiring ongoing speech therapy at the College through the Liverpool Communication Partners. Kindy assessment results will be discussed with all K parents who have booked in for a parent teacher interview. If you have not yet done so please do so we can discuss these result in detail face to face. Warm Regards Miss Balloot K-6 Literacy and Numeracy Instructional leader

NSW PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE Dear Parents and carers, What is the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge? The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The PRC is open to all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 9, in government, independent, Catholic and home schools. The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. Students must read a certain number of books to complete the Challenge. Upon successful completion of the Challenge, students will be eligible for a PRC certificate in Term 4. When is the challenge? The 2021 Challenge opened to students on Monday March 1, 2021 and will close on Friday August 20, 2021. How does my child sign up? Students will receive their login shortly from their class teacher. Students will use their login to access their online profile and log the books they read online. What should my child read? Please encourage your children to read the books that have been shortlisted on the website prc@det.nsw.edu.au . Students can borrow books from the College library. Also, a trip to your local library is always a nice way to ensure you have the correct books, as they are easy to find. By encouraging and engaging all our students to partake in this initiative we hope to develop a greater love for reading and to further improve their literacy and vocabulary skills. If you need help using the website and the answer cannot be found on the PRC Support site, please contact us at the College on 9606 2666. Warm Regards Miss Balloot K-6 Literacy and Numeracy Instructional Leader
