A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL
Upcoming Events Dental & Optical check ups RESCHEDULED to September
Assalamu Alaykum Dear parents and carers I trust you all had a wonderful Eid with your families and I would like to thank you again for your continued perseverance, support and cooperation with our home learning program. Today Junior School celebrated pajama day. It was lovely seeing so many of our home learners dressed in their PJs...and it was good weather for it too! Thankyou to our junior school community for your generous donations and supporting a great cause. As our home learning program continues in to week 3, I would like to remind all parents of the importance of signing your child into their Google Meets using their school email account and password. Keeping our students safe online is our priority. Your child's Bellfield account allows us to monitor and moderate online behaviour. This week I am sharing with you an advice booklet published by the eSafety Commissioner. esafety.gov.au is a great website which offers practical advice to parents and carers, to help their children have safe experiences online. As always, have a wonderful and restful weekend. Warmest regards Miss Harold

MRS STEVENSON DEPUTY HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL
Dear Junior School Parents,
Thank you for your continued support of your children and their teachers during remote learning. Your messages of encouragement mean a lot and certainly spur us on! I know our Junior School teachers miss each and every student! The Week 3 Timetables will be emailed to you via Sentral on Friday. You will notice each timetable is personalised for each class and they include all lesson MEET links and times. Qur’an and Illuminations times are also in the timetable, so please follow this document from now on. Next Wednesday we have some special activities planned. K-2 students will be celebrating their 100th Day of Learning and 3-6 students will be celebrating the Tokyo Olympic Games. We are looking forward to lots of virtual fun!
5 Tips to support your child with remote learning Realise that you are not replacing school. You are your child’s parent, not their teacher. They are very different relationships. You can be flexible but firm. By establishing some rules and routines, you are reframing what can be achieved together at home when you set parameters and explain very clearly how things are going to play out. Here are some helpful hints: 1. Establish a daily routine, allowing time for rest, play and connection with you each day. Regular bedtimes are still important too! 2. Set up a learning space - a central place for supervision, but somewhere children can focus and access their learning materials. 3. Organise the technology you will need - as this lockdown has continued beyond the initial 5 day plan, it is essential that children have access to devices which assist them with their Google MEETS and task completion. 4. Provide healthy food and water throughout the day to assist with focus. 5. Be flexible - changes do happen, and some days are better than others - your child’s wellbeing and mental health is paramount. Please keep communication open with your child’s teachers, we love to hear from you and assist you where possible. Kind regards Mrs Natalie Stevenson Deputy Head of Junior School

NSW PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE Dear Parents and carers, What is the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge? The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The PRC is open to all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 9, in government, independent, Catholic and home schools. The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. Students must read a certain number of books to complete the Challenge. Upon successful completion of the Challenge, students will be eligible for a PRC certificate in Term 4. When is the challenge? The 2021 Challenge opened to students on Monday March 1, 2021 and will close on Friday August 20, 2021. How does my child sign up? Students will receive their login shortly from their class teacher. Students will use their login to access their online profile and log the books they read online. What should my child read? Please encourage your children to read the books that have been shortlisted on the website prc@det.nsw.edu.au . Students can borrow books from the College library. Also, a trip to your local library is always a nice way to ensure you have the correct books, as they are easy to find. By encouraging and engaging all our students to partake in this initiative we hope to develop a greater love for reading and to further improve their literacy and vocabulary skills. If you need help using the website and the answer cannot be found on the PRC Support site, please contact us at the College on 9606 2666. Warm Regards Miss Balloot K-6 Literacy and Numeracy Instructional Leader
