Last Day Of Term 3 Friday 17 September
Assalamu Alaykum Dear parents and carers Another week conquered! As we head into the last week of term 3, I want to again congratulate all our parents for their continued support of our home learning program. As more information becomes available regarding possible return to school arrangements in term 4, I would like to remind all parents to ensure your contact details are up to date with the College. Our main communication platforms are via WhatsApp, Sentral Parent Portal, email, our school website and facebook page. Please contact the school office should you have any questions. As we also move into our assessment and reporting period, I encourage parents to reach out to their child's teacher should they require any assistance with their online learning and completion of classwork. Please enjoy this week's edition of the Junior School Weekly and have a safe and restful weekend.
First Day Of Term 4 Monday 4 October (Online Learning)
Warm regards Miss Jennie Harold

Dear Junior School Families, Small Things make the biggest difference! In our recent Junior School staff meeting, teachers shared ways they have cared for their own mental wellbeing and health during lockdown, many of which included: getting outside, switching off devices, learning a new hobby and practising daily gratitude! Each of these things are quite simple to do. Sometimes it’s the small things that make the biggest difference! In an article in the Sydney Morning Herald, we are encouraged to have a ‘Third Place’. Unlike our home (first place) or workplace or school (second place), our third place is somewhere we regularly go and feel part of a community, such as the Mosque, playing sport, or going to the beach. It’s our “happy place” where we see familiar faces, have incidental chats and feel part of something – and it’s usually the places we can’t get to in lockdown. During lockdown, when home, school and work is combined, it can be difficult to find our Third Place - but perhaps it can be a special seat outside in the sun, or park bench, veggie patch or even around a fire pit. Once again, small things can make a big difference! Device-free Activities Our Junior School is mindful of the importance of balance between both online and offline tasks, and with school holidays approaching I would like to share with you some resources and ideas for keeping your children busy without screens. WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING IN 5T History This term in History, students have been studying the theme of migration. Students have examined the impact of migration upon the development of Australia as a nation. Throughout the term, students were able to examine the lives of a range of migrants, delve into their inspiring stories and appreciate their contributions to society despite the many hardships they faced. This topic is particularly relevant in the world today and students have appreciated the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and turn it into meaningful learning experiences. Students have recently been completing research tasks involving them imagining a scenario where they need to pack up their belongings and migrate to another country. Students need to use their knowledge of why people migrate, as well as draw from some real-life migrant stories learnt this term. Part of the task involves students packing their small suitcase (shoebox) with items that mean the most to them. It’s fantastic to see students explaining why they’ve packed certain items, drawing on lessons where they’ve had to reflect on items that have sentimental value. Some examples include Noora Thamer packing a family photo ‘so that I will always remember them and never lose an image of their faces’, and several students packing their Quran, in particular Eshaal Changazi who packed it to ‘make her feel safe’. This amazing theme for Term 3 has broadened students' knowledge of world news and helped them appreciate not just the stories of migrants, but their own lives as well.

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
This term in Personal Development, Health and Physical Education students have been learning about the importance of being healthy. Now more than ever it is easy for students to make unhealthy choices. Being in lockdown can lead to poor diet, less physical activity and can affect mental health. Therefore students have been learning about the government guidelines regarding diet and physical activity and how these can affect overall health. Students have also been investigating initiatives that could improve overall health in the community. We encourage all students to adopt healthy habits and endeavour to improve their health in these difficult times.
