Tuesday 30th March 2021 Dear Parents/Guardians, At Bellfield College we encourage students to complete a Mathematics course in stage 6 as it is quite important to gain the Mathematical skills that they would require in real life. Students should chose a Mathematics course that is suitable for their level of ability, and to support their development. We provide students the opportunity to be part of the higher level of Mathematics and make a decision to move to a lower Mathematics course within the first term. We are currently running the following mathematics courses: • • •
Extension 1 Mathematics Advance Mathematics Standard 2 Mathematics
The introduction of the Mathematics Standard 1 course gives students the opportunity to enhance their numeracy skills and general capabilities. Aligned with Level 3 of the Australian Core Skills Framework. Mathematics Standard 1 is a course for students who intend to finish school with appropriate mathematical background for entering the workforce and/or undertaking further community and workplace training. Students in Standard 1 Mathematics have the option of sitting HSC examination and be eligible for ATAR. Standard 1 Mathematics is a category B subject and students can only have 1 category B subject counted towards their ATAR calculations. Students will be awarded with grades A-E if they wish not to sit the HSC examination and they will still receive their HSC documentations.
At the end of Term 1 students who are not achieving the course outcomes will meet the Mathematics Coordinator, Mr Karimi and will discuss options to move to the Standard 1 Mathematics course. The Year 11 content is exactly the same in Standard 1 and Standard 2, therefore we anticipate a smooth transition without missing any course content. HSC ATAR eligibility rules apply and these will be discussed in more detail with students and their parent/carer.
