Product Reconstruction/Deconstruction

Core II
This p project was a study of color and explored the formal elements of found products in order to refashion a new work. I took the color schemes of a collection of products and repackaged bottles of ramune. First, I deconstructed the products into abstracted watercolor paintings. Then, I digitally inverted the colors of the paintings and reconstructed bottle labels. I intended to reverse the process of looking at fine art to create a design product and rather created a form of fine art based in designed products.
Subversive Wallpaper
digital illustration paper and acrylic on canvas Core II
This p project alters the image of an idealistic, toile wallpaper and transforms it into a subversive work that centers around a certain societal issue or event. I chose the destruction of the Berlin Wall and its significance as an incredible act of human rights activism. I found that this event parallels to contemporary events and encourages the elimination of divisive rhetoric that is currently prevalent. In addition to the illustration, I created a sculptural element in which the graffitied wall is behind the torn wallpaper, encouraging the viewer to continue destroying the wall.
Ideation Challenge ink on paper Core II
This p project used chosen verbs as a starting point to create pictorial composition to communicate action using non objective elements. Throughout the process of ideation, I continually developed the composition until I came to a single composition, utilizing the strengths of each drawing. The verbs I chose were twist, enclose, release and reflect.
Body Extension wood and string Core I
This p project was a sculptural piece in which we created an extension of the body. I focused on the concept of one’s “personal space” by creating an enclosed space around me which can be altered The piece explores aspects of body language and the unspoken ways in which we take on certain roles in our social interactions by opening and closing off ourselves to other people.

Word Definition

Fundamentals of Typography
This p project analyzed how typography can enhance the meaning and feeling of word. For the word “egotistical,” I made the “I” the focal point as a play on words. Additionally, the enlarged scale of the “I” personifies the letter as it dominates over the other letters. In regards to the word “discursive,” I focused on the concept of long-winded, wordiness by creating the wandering, extended singular line.
“Outlandish”

Personal
his piece his piece was inspired by the subject of sea life because of the bizarre shapes and textures found within this environment. Through the subject matter of the unique forms, I intended to explore an emphasis on using line to express movement. I further developed the idea by including outer space as a subject matter. Both our earth’s oceans and our universe both possess a vast and unkn and unknown quality as humans have hardly explored each realm. There even is social and political controversy regarding the question if we should even invest in space exploration if we have not yet explored most of our oceans. Through the combination of these themes, this piece expresses whimsical and imaginative qualities within subjects that are associated with mys tery and the unknown.
“Bottled Cosmos”

Personal
This piece was inspired by memories of my childhood of catching fireflies in the summer. I combined this act of a child with the dream-like imagery of the planets and stars in order to evoke the imagination and state of mind of being a child. I also intended to explore manipulating light in order to express a certain mood.
