“Back Pain Technology Cheats Mother Nature

After helping hundreds of Fairfield County herniated disc sufferers eliminate their pain, Local Doctor explains how…

Helps Herniated Discs Heal Naturally… In As Little As 25 Minutes!” At Last! Fairfield County Doctor Offers Technology That Doesn’t Just End SEVERE Pain From Herniated Discs, But Helps Your Body To Start Rebuilding Them… As Fast As Humanly Possible! Best Part: You can check it all out for FREE if you like!

There is no doubt… technology has made all of our lives better… and easier. Just about every miraculous medical cure and comfort of modern living can be attributed to amazing breakthroughs in technology. Heck, laser eye surgery can give people who are almost as blind as a bat perfect 20/20 vision. How amazing is that? That’s why it’s no surprise that technology might be able to solve your back and neck pain from herniated/bulging discs or sciatica…for good. Here is why: Back and neck pain can be devastating. And nothing is worse than going to doctor after doctor… trying treatment after treatment… spending money you can’t afford… and still suffering in pain. That’s why… I bet you would love to instantly end your pain… without any risk what-soever… and have it never come back for the rest of your life? Well, that might NOT be so easy. But, what if there was a wonderful advancement in technology that, with a handful of simple, non-invasive treatments, could possibly have you out of pain and on your way to healing naturally? Better yet, what if this technology could possibly heal your herniated/bulging discs (instead of cutting it out like surgery) so you have the best chance to live pain-free and do all the things you want and love to do? And what if this technology was: • FDA cleared! • Proven safe and effective! • Allows your herniated discs to heal naturally without the risky and dangerous side effects of surgery! • Relieves pain fast… in some cases in as little as 25 minutes! Well, guess what? There is such technology and there is a very good chance it can help you… like it has already helps thousands of herniated/bulging disc and sciatica sufferers all around the country… No Matter How Bad Your Pain Is, How Long You’ve Been Suffering Or How Many Other Treatments And Doctors Have Failed You! Don’t laugh. It’s really true. Here’s proof…

When you have a herniated disc, compressive forces cause your spinal bones to come together… basically squashing your disc. The space in between your bones decreases and the soft, jello-like disc material leaks out. This disc material that leaks out is called a herniated disc and can cause severe pain, numbness and tingling in your neck, back, arms or legs when the herniation pushes into and “pinches” a nerve. So it makes sense, if you could slightly pull the spinal bones apart… that would open up the space, take the pressure off the disc, the disc off the nerve and solve the problem. Right? But the only problem is… how do you do that? For years and years, doctors have been trying to do it with traction. But traction has been proven ineffective and often very painful. Why? Traction doesn’t work because when you have a herniated or bulging disc, the area is injured and when you try to move, your muscles go into spasm. Spasm is your body’s way of trying to protect you from causing further injury. That’s why traction hurts so much. As soon as the traction starts… your muscles overprotect the area and spasm. But the good news is: Now there is technology that out-smarts your body’s natural spasm reaction. In other words: It fools mother nature! This technology is called non-surgical spinal decompression (NSSD) and here’s how it works… NSSD is very different from plain traction because it has advanced computer technology that actually senses your spinal muscles. When it starts to gently pull, it immediately knows when your muscles start to contract and it stops pulling. As soon as your muscles relax, it starts pulling again. The amazing thing is: the computer senses your muscles contraction so early… you don’t even feel what is going on. Which means you never feel any pain! In fact, the only thing most patients feel is… RELIEF!!! But the best part is: NSSD is able to gently separate your spinal bones which, in many cases, actually sucks the herniated disc material back into the disc where it belongs! This takes away your pain and allows your herniated and bulging discs to heal naturally!

And check this out: Treatments are pleasant and simple. All you have to do is lie on your back, listen to your favorite music, read a magazine… or… take a nap! The wonderful technology does everything while you simply RELAX the pain away! To sum up NSSD: • For most patients it is 100% painless… in fact many patients actually fall asleep during treatment! • Works fast! Most patients get relief after a handful of treatments – some after the very first! • Is non-invasive so it does not have the dangerous risks of surgery! • Gets to the root cause of the problem and helps it heal naturally! Isn’t modern technology wonderful? And wouldn’t you like to… Give This Great Technology A Try… For Free? If you would, there’s great news. There is a Doctor located at 222 Westchester Ave. Suite 405 in White Plains who has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in this wonderful technology and has been treating herniated/bulging disc and sciatica patients with incredible success. His name is Dr. Jonathan Donath DC, MS and he is so excited about the results he’s been getting, he would like to share it with as many pain sufferers as possible. But There Is A Catch… There’s always a catch... isn’t there? Even though this technology has helped a majority of the patients Dr. Donath has treated… it is not a wonder cure and it does not help everyone.

On the right: healthy disc. Center: Herniated disc with soft disc material leaking out. On the left: Herniated disc material compressing or “pinching” nerve.

For that reason, Dr. Donath does a complete examination on every potential patient and only accepts you if he feels you are most likely to get the pain relief and outcome you are looking for. Dr. Donath’s Special Deal For You! Because the economy is so bad and Dr. Donath wants to help you if possible, he is offering the first 17 people who respond to this article a free consultation and NSSD qualification examination. And if you qualify for NSSD treatments, Dr. Donath will also give you one treatment for FREE! And if you do not qualify, Dr. Donath will help you find the best option for you. That’s why, if you suffer with pain from a herniated/bulging disc or sciatica you should call 914-259-8104 right now. When April answers the phone, simply tell her you would like your free non-surgical spinal decompression consultation and examination. If you are one of the first 17, she will schedule you within the next few days. If you are in a lot of pain or already scheduled for surgery, tell April and she will be sure to get you in immediately. Maybe even today.

On right: Herniated disc with spinal bones “squished” together. Center: NSSD slightly pulls the spinal bones apart, opens up the disc space and allows herniated material to move back into the disc. Left: Herniated material completely back in center of disc allows the disc to heal naturally. Your consultation and examination should take about 60 minutes. During this time you can get all of your questiones answered in a warm and friendly environment. You will know exactly what’s causing your pain and the best possible way to solve it. Dr. Donath will explain to you all your possible options along with his recomendations so you can make the best choice for YOU.

Why Limited To 17? Dr. Donath has limited the number he will accept right now to 17 because he does not believe patients should wait and they should also get the quality personal attention they deserve. When you go for your free visit, I’m sure you will see how unique and pleasant the experience is. It’s nice to be treated like a person and not a number or based on insurance coverage. It’s also nice to know exactly what’s causing your pain and how to relieve it as fast as possible. Dr. Donath’s favorite cases are the one’s that were able to cancel back surgery after only a handful of treatments. Dr. Donath also loves when a herniated disc patient that is in excruciating pain and thinks they’ve tried everything, lays down on the NSSD table, takes a 25 minute nap… and… wakes up with all their pain GONE! Just imagine how it would feel to have all your pain finally gone. Imagine going to bed and being able to sleep the entire night through… … and waking up refreshed and energized… ready to take on the brand new day – without the pain and stiffness that has been terrorizing you. And imagine finally knowing you have the solution to your herniated disc pain. Well, you may not have to just “imagine” anymore… because… NSSD might start relieving your pain… in just 25 minutes! So, if you’d like to see if you qualify and give this amazing technology a try for free… give April a call at 914-259-8104 right now. Why wait one more day in pain when the solution may be one quick phone call away? Call now before someone else gets your free spot. One More Thing It’s Important… Ever since getting this wonderful technology, Dr. Donath’s office has been flooded with calls. For that reason, if when you call, the lines are busy or you go to voice mail… just keep calling back. The possibility of living pain-free is well worth the time and effort it may take you to get through and schedule your appointment. 914-259-8104

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our readers! We are celebrating mothers, sisters, aunts, friends and kids everywhere on May 8. Mother's Day is a celebration honoring mothers and motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in spring. In 1907, Anna Jarvis, a Philadelphia native, began a campaign to establish a national Mother's Day. She persuaded her mother's church in Grafton, West Virginia to celebrate Mother's Day on the second anniversary of her mother's death, the second Sunday of May. By the next year Mother's Day was also celebrated in Philadelphia. Jarvis and her supporters wrote to ministers, businessman, and politicians in their quest to establish a national Mother's Day. It was successful. By 1911 Mother's Day was celebrated in almost every state. President Woodrow Wilson, in 1914, made the official announcement proclaiming Mother's Day a national holiday that was to be held each year on the second Sunday of May. While many countries of the world celebrate their own Mother's Day at different times throughout the year, there are some countries such as Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Australia, and Belgium which also celebrate Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May. Of course, some of the most special moms in the world live right here in Fairfield County, from Greenwich, to Stamford, to Weston, to Newtown. Happy Mother’s Day to all of you from the staff at Healthcare News. THE FUTURE HAS

GREAT HAIR!!

No Pain/ No Surgery/ No Drugs/ No Side Effects…no kidding! about the author

Lasers can now GROW HAIR Dr. Christine Gould is a graduate of Cornell University Medical College and Yale University. She has extensive experience in both emergency medicine and medical aesthetics. She opened her own practice in 2013 and has been diligently bringing the most effective technologies to her lucky patients at All About You Medical Spa located at 79 S Benson Rd, Fairfield CT 06824.

Call now for a consultation.

(203) 292-5559 www.hairgrowct.com

I had trouble believing this myself, but what if I told you that there exists a recently FDA approved laser that can grow your hair back? It feels like an episode from a SciFi movie, only better because it is true, and the FDA agrees. Pioneers in laser medicine have discovered that Low Level Laser Light Therapy (known as LLLT) can resuscitate dying hair follicles and stimulate hair to grow again. How does it work? The laser heals the follicle by improving blood circulation, nutrient flow, and rate of removal of harmful DHT (from testosterone) among other positive benefits. On a cellular level, this means improved metabolism and protein synthesis, increased ATP (energy) production to repair the weakened follicle and cellular stimulation. All this means prevention of hair loss, improved hair quality and hair growth. But don’t take just my word for it, take the FDA’s. The FDA looked at data from thousands of patients who received a full treatment cycle, and they found it to be SAFE and EFFECTIVE. There is no pain, no surgery, no drugs, no side effects. And it works. This all translates into a modern day medical miracle. Very few people are not candidates for benefit from this device, whether you are young or old, male of female. (If all your hair is dormant, and your scalp is shiny bald with no inkling of remaining hair, you would have been excluded from the study). Of course, it takes a commitment to your hair. Each cycle is 20”, and you need to complete a 48 treatment cycle… so far, hair doesn’t grow from trees…but it can grow from a laser!

Gift Ideas for Fit and HealthyMoms A handmade macaroni-covered card was fine when you were in kindergarten, but these days we think Mom deserves something that won’t crumble after a few weeks. Whether your Mama is into cooking, running, yoga, hitting the gym — or just hitting the snooze button — we’ve got great gift ideas for every budget.

For the Amateur Chef Blue Apron Subscription Even the best cooks need a little help every once in a while. Blue Apron delivers pre-measured ingredients and instructions for three fresh, healthy recipes per week. Choose how many people you’re cooking for, then pick either the vegetarian or the meat/seafood option. Wine of the Month Club More into rosé than running? A wine club is a great way to discover the intricacies of wine. Most wine subscription services deliver 12 bottles once every three months — definitely enough for a hearthealthy glass every night. The Wall Street Journal Wine Club and Laithwaites Wine Club are both good options. Herb Garden Kit Spice up cooking with fresh herbs grown right at home. Stop by a home and garden store for a pretty pot, soil, plant food, and herb seeds such as basil, thyme, parsley, oregano, rosemary, and chives. Or, order an all-in-one herb garden kit. Homemade Meal This isn’t the fanciest or most innovative suggestion, but for many mothers, a simple and heartfelt gift is far better than an expensive one. A nice bottle of wine, a delicious home-cooked meal, and plenty of conversation make a great last-minute present. If Mom is the main dinner chef at home, treat her with some precious moments of relaxation while you slave over the hot stove preparing her favorite meal.

For the Domestic Goddess DIY Body Scrub Encourage your mom to take some “me time” every once in a while with a set of homemade bath products. Pantry staples like oatmeal, sugar, and salt exfoliate, while bananas and milk moisturize. Pick a recipe, mix it up, and pour it into a pretty glass bottle for an attractive and useful gift.

Massage or Salon Gift Certificate There’s nothing better than a day at the spa for getting some serious R and R. Book a massage session (or any other relaxing treatment) at a local salon. Getting a massage has been proven to reduce physical pain, boost mood, and fight overall

Personal Training Gift Certificate Don’t get stuck in a rut! Purchase a session with a personal trainer to teach Mom some new moves at the gym. She’ll learn correct technique, challenging routines, and more importantly, how to build build strength (which is essential to maintaining healthy bones, especially for women).

For the Yogi For the Runner Fair Trade Clothing and Equipment Let your mom focus on her practice (and not on a stinky, slippery mat) with eco-friendly yoga equipment. We love the mats and blocks made from sustainable materials like bamboo, cork, jute, and natural rubber from yoga company Hugger Mugger. Well-designed, sustainable threads from prAna or Hyde Yoga will help mom bend and stretch without worrying about a wardrobe malfunction or un-comfy seams. Gift Certificate to Local Studio For a more social yoga experience, gift mom a voucher for a class or personal session at a local yoga studio. She’ll be able to work on technique, learn new poses, and meet like-minded yogis in town.

For the Gym Buff Is mom still schlepping her clothes and sneaks in a falling-apart shopping bag? It’s time for an upgrade. And while you’re at it, choose a bag that does some good for the world while keeping undies out of sight. With the purchase of each Actvyist Gym Bag, Actvyist donates money to funding girls’ sports teams and facilities in Niceragua.

Foam Roller A long stretching and foam rolling session is the icing on the cake of a long, tough run. Foam rolling loosens up tight muscles and helps connective tissue stay healthy and supple. Yurbuds Few things are more annoying than earphones that fall out every few strides. Enter Yurbuds, invented by two active dudes who were sick of dealing with flimsy headphones while training for triathlons and marathons. Yurbuds are guaranteed to stay in, even when the going gets tough.

For the Sleeping Beauty Scented Eye Mask A dark room plus soothing herbs is a recipe for deep, rejuvenating sleep. Hook mom up with a lavender-filled eye mask to let her sleep in. Smelling lavender before bed can help with insomnia. Bonus points for bringing breakfast in bed when she finally wakes up! Fancy PJs Special pajamas (aka not just a scruffy old work t-shirt and sweats) make any night feel special. Splurge on a highquality set made of sustainable materials, like super soft jammies from Gaiam made from bamboo and organic cotton.

Stamford Hospital Achieves Magnet® Designation Healthcare News - Fairfield County

Stamford Hospital has received Magnet® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This distinction puts Stamford Hospital among the roughly seven percent of the more than 5,600 hospitals in the nation – and one of only five in Connecticut – to achieve this status. Magnet recognition is the highest honor for nursing service excellence that any hospital can receive. “Being recognized with Magnet status is a testament to the exceptional care our nurses provide to patients and families every day,” said Ellen Komar, RN, Vice President, Patient Care Services & Chief Nursing Officer at Stamford Health. “We are incredibly proud of our team for achieving this most prestigious distinction.” The ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® identifies healthcare organizations that stand out with exceptional patient care and outcomes, nursing excellence, and innovations in professional nursing practice - all while adhering to national standards and demonstrating exceptional leadership and sensitivity to culture and ethnic diversity. To achieve this designation, hospitals must undergo a rigorous process over several months, including both a comprehensive document submission and an onsite evaluation of patient care and outcomes. Magnet hospitals must also provide an annual status report on their progress and undergo re-evalua-

tion every four years to retain the designation. “Only exceptional nurses can deliver exceptional patient-centered care,” added Komar. “And our nurses embody a culture that celebrates every improvement in clinical outcomes and patient experience.” You can learn more about Stamford Health’s nursing team at https://www.stamfordhealth.org/ professionals/nursing/. Doctors Express Urgent Care in Norwalk: Serving the community PAGE 12

By Dale McKnight Healthcare Correspondent

May, 2016

Since its opening in July 2015, AFC Doctors Express Urgent Care in Norwalk has been a leading go-to medical facility in the local community. “Our services encompass treatments for all sorts of non-life-threatening conditions and injuries - from allergies to stomach aches to minor sports mishaps,” says Ken Goldberg, owner of the management company of Doctors Express in Norwalk. Several factors draw patients to the facility, he says.

Healthcare News - Fairfield County

“For one thing, it’s getting harder and harder to schedule an immediate appointment with most primary-care doctors – sometimes it takes weeks, or even months. People can just walk in to Doctors Express; no appointment is needed,” he says, adding that advance online pre-registration on their website is also an option, making it easy for patients to fill out paperwork before they arrive. Another plus – Doctors Express offers longer daily hours than most regular medical providers do – a relief to busy families and other on-the-go folks. “It’s also a lot faster and less expensive than

going to the emergency room,” Goldberg adds. “Our patients are generally in and out within an hour.” The Norwalk site provides overall family health care, vaccinations, treatments for bumps and bruises, x-ray services (also available on weekends), discreet STD testing, Lyme disease tests, and services for students from nearby colleges. Pre-employment and pre-op physicals, as well as checkups for schools and camps, are also available. Doctors Express also provides an on-site lab, and specialty services including immigration physicals and travel

Wasserman, M.D. A longtime Connecticut resident, Dr. Wasserman graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey and completed his medical residency at Stamford Hospital. He has been practicing medicine for almost twenty years. In addition to the Norwalk location, Doctors Express has six other locations in Connecticut, including two in Danbury, and one each in Stamford, Fairfield, Bridgeport and West Hartford. Get Moving in May for National Physical Fitness and Sports Month

The month highlights the importance of healthy lifestyles, being physically active, and participating in your favorite sports. May 1st marks the start of the annual National Physical Fitness and Sports Month , led by thePresident’s Council on Fitness Sports and Nutrition. The month highlights the importance of healthy lifestyles, being physically active, and participating in your favorite sports. That’s why National Physical Education & Sport Week – observed May 1-7 – is the perfect kick off. May is the ideal time to get outside, be active, and enjoy nice weather. Warm weather motivates people to get moving. The sunny days entice kids to venture outdoors for free play, sports, and a healthy dose of physical activity. While it’s great to see our youth outside and active when the weather is nice, they need physical education and activity year-round. Studies have shown that active kids do better! When children are active, they perform better academically, have better attendance, and behavior improves. Let’s Move! Active Schools – part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative –

is working to bring physical education and activity back to our nation’s schools. The President’s Council is proud to announce that over 15,000 schools have joined the Let’s Move! Active Schools movement! These schools are working hard to promote a culture in which physical activity and physical education underpin academic success. Let’s Move! Active Schools equips school leaders and teachers with the resources and tools to incorporate at least 60 minutes of physical activity before, during, and after the school day. It also ensures that movement is a fundamental part of a child’s educational experience. Currently, Let’s Move! Active Schools positively impacts the lives of over 8 million youth through physical education. But we need you to keep the movement going and growing! The President’s Council is looking for school champions – physical education and classroom teachers, principals, administrators, and parents – to be a part of the movement. How can you help? Work with your child’s school to become a part of the Let’s Move! Active Schools movement. Sign up now at www.letsmove.gov.

To the 15,000+ Let’s Move! Active Schools, we challenge you to join the First Lady’s #GimmeFive challenge. Post five things

your school is doing to help students eat better, be more active, and lead a healthier life. Let’s show everyone how active

schools across the country are getting students moving, not just during National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, but all year long!

The event raises provides women with the tools, resources and inspiration to prevent women’s number one killer—heart disease.

Several local women will be featured in a short video at the event. All are survivors or either heart disease or stroke. Selina Santos, of Wilton, was diagnosed with high blood pressure and aortic insufficiency at age 34. She visited doctors who diagnosed her constant headaches and shortness of breath to be stress-related, and told her to lighten her work load. When she was finally diagnosed with aortic insufficiency, leakage of the aortic valve, her doctor gave her a choice of “lifestyle change or surgery,” she chose lifestyle change. “I made working out a regular part of my schedule. Now I do not let things bother me to the point of frustration and I am aware of what I eat, especially salt content,” she said, “Most importantly I started indoor cycling, it became such a regular thing, the owners of JOYRIDE studio asked me to instruct and now it’s been my mission to create a healthier lifestyle for others.”

Her message to other women, even young women is to “not ignore the signs! What may seem like stress may be an underlying cause of a more serious issue. Put yourself first—it is not selfish, it’s necessary!” For luncheon ticket or sponsor information, please contact Deena Kaye, Go Red For Women Director at Deena.kaye@heart.org or by phone at 203-295-2941 or visit http://westfairgoredluncheon.heart.org. Healthy eating to reduce the risk of stroke Healthcare News - Fairfield County May, 2016

PAGE 19

Healthy eating is one of the best things you can do to reduce the risk of stroke and control many health problems. And, a healthy diet can help you maintain a healthy weight, feel your best, have more energy, and handle stress better. These guidelines can help you start enjoying healthy, food, feeling better, and improving your health. For more information about ways to reduce your risk of stroke, visit www.stroke.org. Fruits and vegetables These are packed with key vitamins and nutrients, such as calcium and fiber. Aim to eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables every day.

Lean protein When you pledge to eat healthy, it’s okay to enjoy meat. The important thing is to choose lean meat. This includes boneless, skinless chicken breasts and turkey cutlets, and leaner cuts of ground beef. Broil grill, roast, poach, or boil meat instead of frying. Also try to avoid sauces and gravies that are high in fat and sugar.

Seek low-fat dairy options While many dairy products are rich in protein and calcium, they are also high in fat, which can cause cholesterol to build up in arteries increasing the risk for many major health problems.

Drink in moderation Drinking too much alcohol increases blood pressure and the risk of stroke. Aim to drink no more than two drinks a day for men and one drink a day for women.

Watch your calories Part of eating healthy means having a healthy weight, which includes not eating more calories than you burn off. Calorie intake is based on gender, age, and activity level.

Plan Vending machines and fast food can be tempting when you’re rushed or stressed. To eat healthy, plan menus ahead of time and keep healthy snacks on hand.

Change your choices Simple changes in how you prepare and ask for food can add up to big changes. Choose grilled fish instead of fried. At a restaurant, choose vegetables as a side instead of French fries.

Stay positive It can take a long time to begin new habits in the way you eat and drink, so go easy on yourself as you’re starting out. Remember that every small change you make in the way you eat adds up to big differences in your overall health.

May Marks National Critical Care Awareness and Recognition Month patient safety, workforce shortage to be addressed The month of May marks National Critical Care Awareness and Recognition Month. The Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), partnering with the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP), American Thoracic Society (ATS), and the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) recognizes the devoted professionals whose compassion and dedication to the care of the critically ill and injured has made a significant difference in the lives of patients and their families. At some point in their lives, nearly 80% of all Americans will suffer, or know someone who is suffering, from a life-threatening illness or injury. From heart attack and stroke, to burns and gunshot wounds, every day thousands of people suffer from critical conditions that place their lives in jeopardy. In the rapid pace of the intensive care unit (ICU), each critical care practitioner must quickly obtain

information, effectively convert it into knowledge, and then apply it to the best interests of the patients at the bedside. There are many ways to organize care within the ICU, but data show that optimal care is provided when an integrated team of dedicated experts is present to assess, initiate and adjust treatment to ensure that the best possible care is delivered to all critically ill or injured patients the moment it's needed. The core of this multiprofessional team consists of intensivists (physicians credentialed in critical care medicine), critical care nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists. Primary care physicians, physician assistants, social workers, dietitians, ethicists, consultant medical specialists, and other professionals are also often part of the team. During the month of May, the Society of Critical Care Medicine encourages the public to applaud the efforts of the critical care team.

Wear blue on May 13! During the second Friday of the month wear blue to show your support of National Critical Care Awareness and Recognition Month.

Educate legislators. Join forces with critical care professionals to educate Senators and Representatives on the growing critical care workforce shortage and its implications for the future.

Recognize members of the critical care team. Take a moment to praise the critical care team members and other healthcare workers for their hard work and commitment to caring for a critically ill or injured loved one.

Learn about critical care. Patients and families are often confused about critical care, what critical care practitioners do, and the intensive care unit (ICU) setting. The Society's 10 Patient and Family Brochures are an excellent resource for learning about key issues within the ICU, including end of life, sepsis, pediatric critical illness, hospital safety, and more. These brochures and many educational resources are available at SCCM's Online Bookstore, www.sccm.org/ecommerce. Make a donation. Make a donation to the Critical Care Education and Research Foundation (CCERF) in honor or memory of someone, or designate your donation to a specific patient safety initiative. To view all options, visit www.sccm.org.

The Society of Critical Care Medicine is the leading professional organization dedicated to ensuring excellence and consistency in the practice of critical care medicine. With nearly 13,000 members worldwide, the Society is the only professional organization devoted exclusively to the advancement of multiprofessional intensive care through excellence in patient care, professional education, public education, research and advocacy. Members of the Society include intensivists, critical care nurses, critical care pharmacists, clinical pharmacologists, respiratory care practitioners and other professionals with an interest in critical care, which may include physician assistants, social workers, dieticians, and members of the clergy.

What do doctors do to treat their own pain? PAGE 22

May, 2016

Healthcare News - Fairfield County Healthcare News - Westchester

As a board-certified internist who has been in practice for over 13 years, I spend much of my time attempting to alleviate the pain and suffering of my patients. As a clinician, one of the biggest challenges I face is helping my patients deal with musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes—those all-too-common, yet frequently debilitating ailments caused by bad backs, pinched nerves, arthritis, and the like. Unfortunately, much of what I have to offer my patients boils down to the following: take a pain pill, stretch if you can, wait, and hope for the best. After a failed trial of “conservative” therapy a call might go out to the orthopedic surgeon for assistance; a truly satisfactory result is not common. The simple fact is that physicians are not well trained to deal with musculoskeletal pain, and patients can suffer as a result. Thankfully, my views on this topic have been turned completely upside down since I havepersonally discovered Dr. Jonathan Donath’s outstanding practice. After beginning a vigorous exercise regimen I started to experience awful neck and upper back pain, accompanied by numbness and tingling down my left arm and fingers. For weeks I tried to nurse the pain with non steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, but the pain persisted and got to the point that I was almost unable to work, sleep, or most importantly, play guitar. I wasliterally in tears from the excruciating pain. A neurosurgeon diagnosed a herniated disc and pinched nerve in my neck and offered to decompress it with an operation. In desperation I called Dr. Donath instead. My visit to Dr. Donath’s office was an outstanding experience. He spent about an hour with me and combined multiple modalities to fix the herniated disc in my neck: deep massage, active release techniques, traditional manipulation, cold therapy, and finally spinal decompression. After that first hour with Dr. Donath my pain had decreased from a 10/10 down to a manageable 4/10, and I was able to comfortably move my head and neck. That very night I was able to play guitar again. Two days later I went back for another series of treatments and the pain decreased even further. After about five days the pain was absolutely gone. Unbelievable! Since then he has used the same wonderful techniques to help me overcome painful bouts of sciatica as well. My own patients and family members have become “believers” in Dr. Donath’s abilities as well--- the results he achieves are real and lasting. He is my go to guy for the majority of musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes that I now realize are truly treatable. Dr. Robert Sidlow MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine

I am a pediatrician and in my work, I have to bend down a lot and I’m constantly lifting kids. I usually have one to three bad flare ups of low back pain every year. When my back would "go out", I could barely walk to the bathroom and would have to lie down in bed for a few days. I have tried everything: doing nothing and "toughing it out", muscle relaxants, physical therapy, chiropractic, therapeutic massage, and even painful steroid injections. Nothing worked. When I moved to Westchester, I met Dr. Jonathan Donath. In just a couple of sessions with Dr. Donath, the pain completely disappeared. If it hadn't happened to me, I wouldn't have believed it. During my last flare up, I was expecting to be on my back for 2-3 days and in pain for 2 weeks. Instead, after one session with Dr. Donath, I was able to walk; two more sessions and I was fine. I could walk, bend down and I had almost no pain. Since that last back episode, Dr. Donath has helped me with my tendonitis in my right hand and with my chronic knee problems. I recommend Dr. Donath to everyone with back, muscle or joint pain. Even if you have not had relief with other treatments and other Chiropractors, give Dr. Donath a chance. I did and he changed my life. Eugene Dinkevich MD, Mount Vernon, NY It’s my great pleasure to write about Westchester Spinal Decompression Center. I really don’t have words to express my feelings about the care I got in last 3 months. I was almost handicapped, living with terrible pain all the time, crippling my day to day life. I am a medical doctor and work in a hospital with all sorts of amazing physicians, but after seeing a physical therapist, getting epidural steroids injections, many orthopedists and neurosurgeons, finally my destination lead me to see Dr Jonathan Donath. With great skepticism, I lied down for spinal decompression therapy. It was unbelievable that after only two initial sessions, my radiating pain down my leg had almost disappeared. Gradually, I started getting better, started doing exercises that they gave me midway through the treatment. Now, I am doing all my daily activities without any pain. I highly recommend Dr Jonathan and his colleague Dr Kavita for any problems related to the musculoskeletal system, you will definitely feel at home and will get better.
