After helping hundreds of Westchester County herniated disc sufferers eliminated their pain, Local Doctor explains how…

“Back Pain Technology Cheats Mother Nature Helps Herniated Discs Heal Naturally… In As Little As 25 Minutes!” At Last! Westchester County Doctor Offers Technology That Doesn’t Just End SEVERE Pain From Herniated Discs, But Helps Your Body To Start Rebuilding Them… As Fast As Humanly Possible! Best Part: You can check it all out for FREE if you like! There is no doubt… technology has made all of our lives better… and easier. Just about every miraculous medical cure and comfort of modern living can be attributed to amazing breakthroughs in technology. Heck, laser eye surgery can give people who are almost as blind as a bat perfect 20/20 vision. How amazing is that? That’s why it’s no surprise that technology might be able to solve your back and neck pain from herniated/bulging discs or sciatica…for good. Here is why: Back and neck pain can be devastating. And nothing is worse than going to doctor after doctor… trying treatment after treatment… spending money you can’t afford… and still suffering in pain. That’s why… I bet you would love to instantly end your pain… without any risk what-soever… and have it never come back for the rest of your life? Well, that might NOT be so easy. But, what if there was a wonderful advancement in technology that, with a handful of simple, non-invasive treatments, could possibly have you out of pain and on your way to healing naturally? Better yet, what if this technology could possibly heal your herniated/bulging discs (instead of cutting it out like surgery) so you have the best chance to live pain-free and do all the things you want and love to do? And what if this technology was: 3 FDA cleared! 3 Proven safe and effective! 3 Allows your herniated discs to heal naturally without the risky and dangerous side effects of surgery! 3 Relieves pain fast… in some cases in as little as 25 minutes! Well, guess what? There is such technology and there is a very good chance it can help you… like it has already helps thousands of herniated/bulging disc and sciatica sufferers all around the country… No Matter How Bad Your Pain Is, How Long You’ve Been Suffering Or How Many Other Treatments And Doctors Have Failed You! Don’t laugh. It’s really true. Here’s proof…

When you have a herniated disc, compressive forces cause your spinal bones to come together… basically squashing your disc. The space in between your bones decreases and the soft, jello-like disc material leaks out. This disc material that leaks out is called a herniated disc and can cause severe pain, numbness and tingling in your neck, back, arms or legs when the herniation pushes into and “pinches” a nerve. So it makes sense, if you could slightly pull the spinal bones apart… that would open up the space, take the pressure off the disc, the disc off the nerve and solve the problem. Right? But the only problem is… how do you do that? For years and years, doctors have been trying to do it with traction. But traction has been proven ineffective and often very painful. Why? Traction doesn’t work because when you have a herniated or bulging disc, the area is injured and when you try to move, your muscles go into spasm. Spasm is your body’s way of trying to protect you from causing further injury. That’s why traction hurts so much. As soon as the traction starts… your muscles overprotect the area and spasm. But the good news is: Now there is technology that out-smarts your body’s natural spasm reaction. In other words: It fools mother nature! This technology is called non-surgical spinal decompression (NSSD) and here’s how it works… NSSD is very different from plain traction because it has advanced computer technology that actually senses your spinal muscles. When it starts to gently pull, it immediately knows when your muscles start to contract and it stops pulling. As soon as your muscles relax, it starts pulling again. The amazing thing is: the computer senses your muscles contraction so early… you don’t even feel what is going on. Which means you never feel any pain! In fact, the only thing most patients feel is… RELIEF!!! But the best part is: NSSD is able to gently separate your spinal bones which, in many cases, actually sucks the herniated disc material back into the disc where it belongs! This takes away your pain and allows your herniated and bulging discs to heal naturally!

And check this out: Treatments are pleasant and simple. All you have to do is lie on your back, listen to your favorite music, read a magazine… or… take a nap! The wonderful technology does everything while you simply RELAX the pain away! To sum up NSSD: • For most patients it is 100% painless… in fact many patients actually fall asleep during treatment! • Works fast! Most patients get relief after a handful of treatments – some after the very first! • Is non-invasive so it does not have the dangerous risks of surgery! • Gets to the root cause of the problem and helps it heal naturally! Isn’t modern technology wonderful? And wouldn’t you like to… Give This Great Technology A Try… For Free? If you would, there’s great news. There is a Doctor located at 1241 Mamaroneck Ave. right here in White Plains, NY who has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in this wonderful technology and has been treating herniated/bulging disc and sciatica patients with incredible success. His name is Dr. Jonathan Donath DC, MS and he is so excited about the results he’s been getting, he would like to share it with as many pain sufferers as possible. But There Is A Catch… There’s always a catch... isn’t there? Even though this technology has helped a majority of the patients Dr. Donath has treated… it is not a wonder cure and it does not help everyone.

On the right: healthy disc. Center: Herniated disc with soft disc material leaking out. On the left: Herniated disc material compressing or “pinching” nerve.

For that reason, Dr. Donath does a complete examination on every potential patient and only accepts you if he feels you are most likely to get the pain relief and outcome you are looking for. Dr. Donath’s Special Deal For You! Because the economy is so bad and Dr. Donath wants to help you if possible, he is offering the first 17 people who respond to this article a free consultation and NSSD qualification examination. And if you qualify for NSSD treatments, Dr. Donath will also give you one treatment for FREE! And if you do not qualify, Dr. Donath will help you find the best option for you. That’s why, if you suffer with pain from a herniated/bulging disc or sciatica you should call 914-259-8104 right now. When Barbara answers the phone, simply tell her you would like your free non-surgical spinal decompression consultation and examination. If you are one of the first 17, she will schedule you within the next few days. If you are in a lot of pain or already scheduled for surgery, tell Barbara and she will be sure to get you in immediately. Maybe even today.

On right: Herniated disc with spinal bones “squished” together. Center: NSSD slightly pulls the spinal bones apart, opens up the disc space and allows herniated material to move back into the disc. Left: Herniated material completely back in center of disc allows the disc to heal naturally. Your consultation and examination should take about 60 minutes. During this time you can get all of your questiones answered in a warm and friendly environment. You will know exactly what’s causing your pain and the best possible way to solve it. Dr. Donath will explain to you all your possible options along with his recomendations so you can make the best choice for YOU.

Why Limited To 17? Dr. Donath has limited the number he will accept right now to 17 because he does not believe patients should wait and they should also get the quality personal attention they deserve. When you go for your free visit, I’m sure you will see how unique and pleasant the experience is. It’s nice to be treated like a person and not a number or based on insurance coverage. It’s also nice to know exactly what’s causing your pain and how to relieve it as fast as possible. Dr. Donath’s favorite cases are the one’s that were able to cancel back surgery after only a handful of treatments. Dr. Donath also loves when a herniated disc patient that is in excruciating pain and thinks they’ve tried everything, lays down on the NSSD table, takes a 25 minute nap… and… wakes up with all their pain GONE! Just imagine how it would feel to have all your pain finally gone. Imagine going to bed and being able to sleep the entire night through… … and waking up refreshed and energized… ready to take on the brand new day – without the pain and stiffness that has been terrorizing you. And imagine finally knowing you have the solution to your herniated disc pain. Well, you may not have to just “imagine” anymore… because… NSSD might start relieving your pain… in just 25 minutes! So, if you’d like to see if you qualify and give this amazing technology a try for free… give Barbara a call at 914-259-8104 right now. Why wait one more day in pain when the solution may be one quick phone call away? Call now before someone else gets your free spot. One More Thing It’s Important… Ever since getting this wonderful technology, Dr. Donath’s office has been flooded with calls. For that reason, if when you call, the lines are busy or you go to voice mail… just keep calling back. The possibility of living pain-free is well worth the time and effort it may take you to get through and schedule your appointment. 914-259-8104

Full Circle Women's Health midwife practice provides healthcare for women of all ages Twenty-eight years ago, Lisa Gussack had a vision to build a midwifery practice within an integrative center of medical and healing specialists. This center would serve families through all phases of life — birth through adolescence, during childbearing years and beyond. Indeed, Gussack’s plan has come Full Circle. Gussack is director of Full Circle Women’s Health and Full Circle Family Care in White Plains. Full Circle Women’s Health is a certified nurse midwife practice that provides compassionate, respectful health care for women of all ages. The dedicated and experienced staff take a holistic approach to well-being, ensuring all patients receive the personal care they need to make informed decisions about their unique physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Gussack continues to be the driving force behind Full Circle Women’s Health. Her passion for holistic and empowering health care options, and the synergy of talented, likeminded, like-hearted healing professionals, can aid your family’s well being. Gussack’s own path to midwifery began in 1974 while, as a postpartum nurse in Boston, she read Suzanne Arms’ book “The Immaculate Deception.”

Arms’ exposure of the inconsistency between current obstetrical practice and the centuries old wisdom regarding pregnancy and birth led Gussack to find her calling as a midwife. The rest is history. Full Circle Family Care brings together a range of health care providers and services from midwifery to psychotherapy to women's physical therapy and acupuncture. The midwives at Full Circle are certified licensed midwives and certified nurse-midwives (CNM) -- a professional health care provider and a registered nurse (RN) who has completed a post-graduate program accredited by the American College of NurseMidwives (ACNM). In addition, all midwives must pass a national certification examination prior to receiving their New York State license. A midwife works with each woman and her family to identify their unique physical, social and emotional needs. When the care required is outside the midwife’s scope of practice or expertise, the woman is referred to other health care providers for additional consultation or care. The midwives at Full Circle Women’s Health pride themselves on providing the Westchester County community top-notch healthcare.

Lisa Gussack is the Director of Full Circle Family Care, an integrative health center located in White Plains. Michelle Chiafulio is a midwife at Full Circle Women’s Health, a certified nurse midwife practice that provides compassionate, respectful health care for women of all ages.

During the last 28 years, Gussack has had the privilege to practice full scope midwifery care, gaining as much wisdom from witnessing women and their partners birth their babies, as she did in all of her years of formal education. Says Gussack, “I’ve learned that the most important thing I can do is to help a woman is to listen and observe them in the context of their family and culture.” Full Circle Women’s Health and Full Circle Family Care are the culmination of Gussack’s experiences and hopes as a midwife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, and a granddaughter. Gussack and her staff welcome family members at prenatal visits and at the hospital during the birth, according to the mother’s wishes. They take time to listen, and hear, an expectant mother’s questions, concerns, fears, and hopes for her birth. The many women who come to Full Circle Women’s Health for gynecological and primary care benefit from the practice’s firm belief in offering compassionate, informed choices for women’s health issues throughout their lives. Gussack is dedicated to helping her patients maintain health and, most of all, come Full Circle.

Healthcare News - Westchester May, 2013

But even if you lead a completely healthy lifestyle, being born with an underlying heart condition can be a risk factor. Many things can put you at risk for these problems – one’s you can control, and others that you can’t. But the key takeaway is that with the right information, education and care, heart disease in women can be treated, prevented and even ended. Studies show that healthy choices have resulted in 330 fewer women dying from heart disease per day.

Heart Health According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, and is more deadly than all forms of cancer. The fact is: Heart disease causes 1 in 3 deaths each year in women. That’s approximately one woman every minute. But it doesn’t affect all women alike, and the warning signs for women aren’t the same in men. What’s more: These facts only begin to scratch the surface. There are several misconceptions about heart disease in women, and they could be putting you at risk. The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement advocates for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health for this very reason. Heart disease affects women of all ages. For younger women, the combination of birth control pills and smoking boosts heart disease risks by 20 percent. And while the risks do increase with age, things like overeating and a sedentary lifestyle can cause plaque to accumulate and lead to clogged arteries later in life.

Stress Stress is a feeling you get when faced with a challenge. In small doses, stress can be good for you because it makes you more alert and gives you a burst of energy. For instance, if you start to cross the street and see a car about to run you over, that jolt you feel helps you to jump out of the way before you get hit. But feeling stressed for a long time can take a toll on your mental and physical health. Long-term stress can help cause a variety of health conditions for every women, from the doting stay-at-home mom, to the working woman. Think three sick kids, not getting that job promotion and trying to manage the bills. High blood pressure, heart attacks and stroke may be stress related cardiovascular conditions. Some women experience changes in their sexuality and encounter various sexual dysfunctions such as loss of desire as a result of stress. Other side effects include fatigue, various aches and pains, headaches, or as emotional disorders such as anxiety, depression, and sleep disturbances. There are steps you can take to help you handle stress in a positive way and keep it from making you sick. Try these tips to keep stress in check: Become a problem solver. Make a list of the things that cause you stress. From your list, figure out which problems you can solve now and which are beyond your control for the moment. From your list of problems that you can solve now, start with the little ones. Learn how to calmly look at a problem, think of possible solutions, and take action to solve the problem. Being able to solve small problems will give you confidence to tackle the big ones. And feeling confident that you can solve problems will go a long way to helping you feel less stressed. Be flexible. Sometimes, it’s not worth the stress to argue. Give in once in awhile or meet people halfway. Get organized. Think ahead about how you’re going to spend your time. Write a to-do list. Figure out what’s most important to do and do those things first. Set limits. When it comes to things like work and family, figure out what you can really do. There are only so many hours in the day. Set limits for yourself and others. Don’t be afraid to say NO to requests for your time and energy. Relax Take deep breaths. If you're feeling stressed, taking a few deep breaths makes you breathe slower and helps your muscles relax. Stretch. Stretching can also help relax your muscles and make you feel less tense. Massage tense muscles. Having someone massage the muscles in the back of your neck and upper back can help you feel less tense. Take time to do something you want to do. We all have lots of things that we have to do. But often we don't take the time to do the things that we really want to do. It could be listening to music, reading a good book, or going to a movie. Think of this as an order from your doctor, so you won’t feel guilty!

Take care of your body Get enough sleep. Getting enough sleep helps you recover from the stresses of the day. Also, being well-rested helps you think better so that you are prepared to handle problems as they come up. Most adults need 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night to feel rested. Eat right. Try to fuel up with fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains. Don’t be fooled by the jolt you get from caffeine or high-sugar snack foods. Your energy will wear off, and you could wind up feeling more tired than you did before. Get moving. Getting physical activity can not only help relax your tense muscles but improve your mood. Research shows that physical activity can help relieve symptoms of depression and anxiety. Don’t deal with stress in unhealthy ways. This includes drinking too much alcohol, using drugs, smoking, or overeating. Connect with others Share your stress. Talking about your problems with friends or family members can sometimes help you feel better. They might also help you see your problems in a new way and suggest solutions that you hadn't thought of. Get help from a professional if you need it. If you feel that you can no longer cope, talk to your doctor. She or he may suggest counseling to help you learn better ways to deal with stress. Your doctor may also prescribe medicines, such as antidepressants or sleep aids. Help others. Volunteering in your community can help you make new friends and feel better about yourself.

Breast health Thanks to improvements in treatment and early detection, millions of women are surviving breast cancer today. Still, the chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time during her life is a little less 1 in 8. The chance of dying from breast cancer is about 1 in 36. Breast cancer death rates have been going down. This is probably the result of finding the cancer earlier and better treatment. Right now there are more than 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. The National Cancer Institute recommends a mammogram every one to two years after age 40. If you’re at higher risk, talk to your doctor about being screened earlier, and do monthly breast self-examinations. A woman’s risk of breast cancer approximately doubles if she has a first-degree relative (mother, sister, daughter) who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. About 15% of women who get breast cancer have a family member diagnosed with it To reduce your risk of cancer in general, eat more fruits and vegetables, reduce dietary fat, drink less alcohol, quit smoking and exercise regularly. To reduce your breast cancer risk in particular, be sure to exercise regularly and maintain a healthy weight.

Balanced nutrition Poor dieting can deplete women’s bodies of key nutrients. Eat a balanced diet with low-fat protein sources, complex carbohydrates, plenty of fruits and green and yellow vegetables - and go light on the salt, sugar and alcohol. A healthy diet and lifestyle are your best weapons to fight cardiovascular disease. According to the American Heart Association, You may be eating plenty of food, but your body may not be getting the nutrients it needs to be healthy. Nutrient-rich foods have vitamins, minerals, fiber and other nutrients but are lower in calories. To get the nutrients you need, choose foods like vegetables, fruits, wholegrain products and fat-free or low-fat dairy products most often. continued on page 13

ATTORNEYS AT LAW Many Years of Experience Protecting the Legal Interests of the Elderly & Special Needs Populations Why should I spend money hiring attorneys to do asset protection planning for me and my loved ones? Currently, the monthly cost for nursing home care in New York ranges between $10,000$15,000, and properly certified home health attendants (nurse aides) can cost as much or more for round- the-clock home care. Statistically, it is likely that most people will need either or both of these care options as they grow older. It is critical that you plan appropriately to best minimize the strain that elder care costs may have on your estate, and to help put you in the best position possible to qualify for benefits that are largely covered by the government, under Medicare or Medicaid. Our firm has attorneys with extensive experience in developing tax-effective action plans for our clients that help protect their assets from government imposition. We have also been very successful in negotiating the complex bureaucratic minefield in which Medicaid is now mired. We have achieved remarkable results for our clients on a host of Medicaid related issues, from obtaining Medicaid approvals for coverage of home care and institutional care benefits, to very accommodative resolutions of Medicaid spousal recovery claims, where the office of Medicaid aggressively pursues the non-institutionalized (i.e., or “community”) spouse for Medicaid benefits provided.

Why should I have a lawyer prepare my will? If you die without a Will, the law, not you, determines how your assets are divided and to whom they are given. A poorly drafted Will may result in a sizeable chunk of your assets not ending up where you want them to go. Osteoporosis & Arthritis As women age, the health of their bones and joints become an increasing issue. Osteoporosis is a bone disease in which the bones become extremely porous, are subject to fracture, and heal slowly, occurring especially in women following menopause and often leading to curvature of the spine from vertebral collapse. Arthritis is a joint disorder that is characterized by inflammation in the joints. Risk factors for osteoporosis include being 65 years of age or older, having a family history of osteoporotic fracture having a tendency to fall, or early menopause. Some minor risk factors include low calcium intake, low body weight, excess caffeine and alcohol, and smoking. To reduce the risk of osteoporosis, do weightbearing and strength-training exercises at least three times per week to strengthen your bones, eat a diet rich in calcium and vitamin D, and take a calcium supplement daily.

PMS and Menopause As most women know, PMS is a very common syndrome. It is believed that changing hormone levels and brain chemistry play a role in PMS. Many symptoms have been linked to PMS, including irritability, bloating, weight gain, fatigue, abdominal pain, food cravings and forgetfulness. Mild or moderate PMS symptoms can be managed by exercise and a balanced diet. Many women choose hormone replacement therapy to help them through menopause. Natural ingredients are another option. In some studies, Black Cohosh, Soy, Dong Quai and other natural ingredients have been shown to help alleviate discomforts. The symptoms of menopause include hot flashes, urinary incontinence, vaginal dryness, breast changes, thinning of the skin, bone loss, increase in LDL (bad) cholesterol levels, increase in heart disease risk, as well as weight gain.

Obesity Over 60 percent of U.S. adult women are overweight, according to estimates from the National Center for Health Statistics of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Just over one-third of overweight adult women are obese. You can become overweight or obese when you eat more calories than you use. A calorie is a unit of energy in the food you eat. Your body needs this energy to function and to be active. But if you take in more energy than your body uses, you will gain weight. Many factors can play a role in becoming overweight or obese. These factors include: • Behaviors, such as eating too many calories or not getting enough physical activity • Environment and culture • Genes Overweight and obesity problems keep getting worse in the United States. Some cultural reasons for this include: • Bigger portion sizes • Little time to exercise or cook healthy meals • Lack of exercise and physical activity

A random drive past Will2Lose in Scarsdale last summer turned out to be a life-changing experience for Linda Forde. Forde, who has struggled with her weight for years, took the initiative to sign up for one of Will2Lose’s programs. An injury delayed her debut at the gym until January of this year. However, in a short time, She has seen results. Linda Forde has changed her life. “There was something different about the place,” Forde said. “I was never satisfied with the results from other fitness clubs. AtWill2Lose, she there was a positive energy about the facility and the staff also inspired me.” Forde, 49, of Eastchester is the kind of well-intentioned person that Will2Lose owner Vito DiMatteo knows he can help. The former chiropractor opened Will2Lose two years ago with the idea of creating a program that wouldn’t focus on diet, but create healthier lifestyles and encouraging members to make positive changes in their eating habits: Changes that would hopefully last a lifetime and bring about real results. Losing between 40 and 50 pounds was Forde’s primary goal. However, before she could lose the weight, she knew she needed to alter her diet. Forde admits to having “horrible eating habits” before she embarked on theWill2Lose program. “Unknowingly, I thought I was dieting, but I really wasn’t eating the right stuff at all,” Forde said. Forde blames it on her own lifestyle, but also on a “chaotic” culture that lends to Americans’ poor eating habits. “We want super-sized, the biggest, the fastest and the quickest, but honestly, that’s the worst thing for us,” she added.

With DiMatteo’s guidance, Forde began to see food in a completely different light. DiMatteo provided Forde with a sample menu, including foods that would fill her up instead of the useless calories she was consuming. Part of DiMatteo’s unique approach means that participants must ditch the idea of dieting completely. “We don’t believe in them and they only provide a temporary solution anyway,” he said. Instead, DiMatteo and his staff of 15 trainers and three nutritionists preach a much healthier lifestyle, one that includes whole foods and a low glycemic food plan, a strategy that helps increase the feeling of fullness for longer periods and includes lots of fruits and vegetables, and no mass-produced food. It was, however, the club’s signature “Biggest Loser” team challenge that got Forde motivated. “That was really the difference for her,” said DiMatteo, who models the challenge after the NBC reality show that features obese people competing to win a cash prize by losing the most amount of weight possible. “It’s usually the catalyst that gets all of my clients going.” To become a successful challenge participant, DiMatteo said one has to be truly invested in the program and willing to make what he describes as “some real changes.” Clients of theWill2Lose program are often at the gym several times a week, participating in a number of activities, including kickboxing, cardio sculpt, Pilates mat exercises, studio cycling, step and strength, TRX training and more. The team challenge is an activity that many get involved in and is the catalyst that keeps them motivated. For Forde this was a critical element of her success in the program.

“The team creates such a sense of camaraderie that doesn’t exist in other gyms,” she said. “The trainers are encouraging and witty. They focus on you and make you believe when you doubt yourself.” Forde, who was never athletic as a youngster, says she was amazed by her ability to take on new challenges and perform exercises she never would have done before. Being surrounded by other competitors who share the same interests and purpose was also helpful, she adds. DiMatteo said Forde’s success is due to her dedication to the program and a schedule that allows her to attend the Will2Lose gym three to four times. “She looks fantastic,” DiMatteo said, referring to Forde’s 60-pound weight loss. Forde said DiMatteo is always working behind the scenes to provide the best results for his clients. It’s that kind of dedication that she is particularly grateful for. “I have a conscious awareness about food and diet that I didn’t have before,” she said. Forde said her goal these days is to remain healthy, sustain her current weight and become stronger by toning her body. Getting to that point takes a willingness to rearrange one’s life and to make weight loss and fitness a top priority. “I always tell my clients that they’ll know themselves when they’re there,” DiMatteo said. “They will eventually get to the point where they will feel happy about their bodies.”

What is Permanent Makeup and is it right for me? Permanent makeup uses tattoos to produce the appearance of lip liner, lipstick, eyeliner, and eyebrows. A professional cosmetic technician uses various tools to deposit colored pigments into the upper layer of skin to create the desired makeup effect. It is a safe procedure that only takes less than an hour to perform, depending on the area being applied. Although the history of this procedure dates back to the 1930s, it did not become popular until the late 1970s. In the 1930s, George Burchett, a tattoo artist from England, developed permanent makeup by creating techniques that could darken eyebrows and apply lasting color to a woman’s lips. In the late 1970s, tattoo artists began offering cosmetic tattooing and soon cosmetologists, electrologists, and even physicians began to show interest in offering these procedures. In the 1980s, training programs were developed and offered throughout the country. Many advancements have been made in the permanent cosmetics industry since it first appeared in England over eighty years ago and it has only grown since then. Now, permanent makeup is being performed more than ever on busy women, athletes and older gals whom may have lost their dexterity to apply makeup daily. Benefits of Permanent Cosmetics Wouldn’t it be great to get that extra few minutes of sleep you always wish for in the morning? Imagine how nice it would be if you could just get up in the morning, shower, dress, and be off to work without ever worrying about getting your makeup perfect. You can relax throughout the day too, never having to run to the ladies’ room to touch up your lipstick or check for smudges. Permanent makeup is perfect for those with allergies to normal makeup, anyone with an active lifestyle, people with scars or medical ailments that prevent hair growth, or those who just want augment their natural beauty. Most clients chose subtle tones that compliment their skin tones to improve their natural look. This allows them to go out as they are and look great but still have the option to put on more make up for special occasions. continued on next page

Permanent Eyebrows Your eyebrows help enhance your eyes, they frame your face and convey your emotions to others. Women have used many methods over the years to get the perfect size & shape for their eyebrows. Now, permanent makeup can give you eyebrows you never have to draw in ever again. Eyebrow treatments are usually done over the course of two sessions. At the first session, the makeup technician will use small hair like strokes to give the illusion of an actual eyebrow. During your second session, usually a month later , a second layer of color is added. This gives you a more natural highlighted look by enhancing the shape and giving your makeup the permanence you desire.

Permanent Eyeliner No matter how you apply your eyeliner, chances are it is difficult to put on. Eyeliner smudges, it is tricky to get straight, it needs to be reapplied throughout the day, and anyone who has poked themselves in the eye knows how bad it hurts. There is a procedure for eyeliner that can save you time, money and the frustration of having to check and recheck your makeup throughout the day. Permanent eyeliner comes in a wide variety of styles. You can get a subtle edging that highlights your eyes, or go for a more striking smoky eye look. Most technicians provide a topical anesthetic that numbs the area being worked on. This onetime procedure can take about an hour, depending on how dramatic of a look you want. Permanent Lip Color Women everywhere spend a lot of time and money on makeup for their lips, all to get the color and shape just right. Unfortunately, lipstick that looks fabulous in the morning starts to fade as the day continues and you have to reapply it. Permanent makeup offers you a release from this never-ending cycle. A splash of lip color or a lip liner that compliments your skin tone can be all that is needed to make thin or pale lips look healthy and youthful. The makeup professional will apply a topical anesthetic to relieve discomfort during the procedure. After your lip color is applied, it will be a bit darker initially and will fade in a few days. The color will be dark for a few days as your lips go through the healing process. In just a few days you will have beautiful, fuller lips, with color. that never wears off. This procedure is easier than you ever imagined and is completely safe. Pretty Face Medi Spa in Montrose is a leader in the Permanent Makeup industry throughout the Northeast.

maternity wards Giving birth is a special experience for every woman and their family. This special moment is about special care, subtle touches such as comfortable birthing beds, soft colors and an attentive nurse. Here in Westchester County, hospitals aim to make the birth of your child as memorable as possible. Healthcare News takes a look at five of the top maternity wards to deliver your new bundle of joy.

St. John’s Riverside Hospital, Yonkers St. John’s Riverside Hospital has, according to its website, delivered more babies than any other hospital in Westchester County. Still, every baby is treated like the hospital’s first born. St John’s team of doctors deliver the latest and most advanced care in a first-class environment that includes a new suite of labor, delivery and recovery rooms. The personalized pre-natal education program enhances the birthing experience providing comprehensive classes from Lamaze to breastfeeding and from hypnobirthing to infant massage. Your pregnancy and the birth of your baby is one of the most exciting times of your life. St. John’s provides a warm, caring and safe environment for the birth of your baby St. John's offers new mothers the advantage of laboring and delivering in comfortable, homey Labor, Delivery & Recovery Suites, while being attended by gifted Labor, Delivery and Nursery RN's. St. John’s goal is to provide the most memorable childbirth experience for you and your family.

Hudson Valley Health Center, Cortlandt Manor At HVHC’s Women’s Pavilion for Birthing, the staff is dedicated to giving expectant mothers the birth experience they choose – and working toward their comfort every step of the way. Your loved ones are involved during birth and after delivery. Meanwhile, HVHC’s staff provides mothers and babies with top-quality care. HVHC supports birth plans as unique as the babies we help bring into the world. The hospital offers deliveries by obstetricians and midwives, we welcome doulas, encouraging you to keep the people you want at your side. HVHC’s labor and delivery suites offer five rooms that pair the comforts of home with state-of-the art equipment. HVHC is the only local hospital to have a whirlpool tub in each birthing room to help speed up delivery and ease pain. HVHC’s philosophy celebrates those first special moments of a baby’s life. We offer immediate “skin-to-skin” bonding time to all our patients, including those who deliver by Cesarean Section within the birthing suite. New mothers later move on to private rooms that feel more like a hotel than a hospital. They can have their babies “room in,” knowing our caring staff will provide full support. The HVHC approach is centered on the whole family: New dads can spend the night, and grandparents and siblings can be involved through special courses. From the first months of pregnancy through the weeks following birth, HVHC provides a wealth of resources and support. photos provide

This designation means White Plains Hospital is in the top 15 percent or better of hospitals nationwide for clinical quality. Regional Perinatal Center at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla Last, but certainly not least. The Regional Perinatal Center (RPC) at Westchester Medical Center (WMC) is one of 18 Regional Perinatal Centers in New York State (NYS). We are committed to working with the state Department of

Health and our affiliate hospitals to accomplish the goal of improving the health of pregnant women and newborns we serve in the Lower Hudson Valley Region. WMC partners with our 10 affiliate hospitals covering a seven county region and totaling more than 40,000 births annually. Within the state, hospitals providing maternity services are designated as one of 4 levels based on the ability to provide care for pregnant women and newborns. Level I - Low risk mothers and newborns Level II - Moderate risk mothers and newborns (Must have a "Special Care" Nursery) Level III - High risk mothers and newborns (Must have subspecialty care/Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery "NICU" ) Level IV - Regional Perinatal Center (RPC) - Highest risk mothers and newborns (Must have subspecialty care/NICU). Provides consultation and support, highest available technology for diagnosis and treatment of sick mothers and newborns, maternal & newborn transport, education, and quality of care in affiliated hospitals. The role of the RPC includes oversight of the quality of care of mothers and newborns in our affiliate hospitals and in the region. We meet with our affiliate hospitals on a quarterly basis to review maternal/newborn transports, present individual case reviews, discuss quality improvement strategies, and provide educational presentations on related topics of interest and/or best practices or a chosen regional theme. Collection and assessment of RPC data and affiliate hospital statistical and regional data, and collaboration with public health agencies and community stakeholders relating to maternal/ infant public health issues in our region is another vital role the RPC plays in improving quality outcomes of mothers and newborns in our region. The WMC RPC team consists of an RPC coordinator, neonatologists, obstetricians, an outreach coordinator/educator and registered nurses. Advanced OB/GYN Associates at Westchester Medical Center offers the full spectrum of obstetric and gynecologic care. From routine gynecologic exams to advanced infertility treatments and beyond, the staff is dedicated to building a relationship with our patients that can grow as they do, from adolescence through their senior years. “Art of Having a Baby” Maternity Fair comes to Hudson Valley Hospital Center Fashion Show, Workshops, Tours and Meet the Doctors Having a happy, healthy baby and a good birth experience can’t be left to chance. It’s something that takes planning. “People spend months and years planning for their wedding,’’ said Sabrina Nitkowski-Keever, Director of Maternal/Child Health at Hudson Valley Hospital Center. “It’s important that couples understand that the decisions they make leading up to the birth of their child can make all the difference, not only for the health of their baby, but for the quality of their birth experience.’’ To help educate aspiring parents, Hudson Valley Hospital Center holds its annual “Art of Having a Baby” Maternity Fair, which will be held this year on Sunday, May 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Hospital lobby. This year’s theme: “Planning, Pregnancy and Parenting” will give couples practical advice on the road to parenthood even if they are not yet expecting, but just considering having a baby. Nitkowski-Keever said that couples should do research on the type of birth they want and develop a birthing plan beforehand. When developing a plan they should consider birthing methods, midwives vs. obstetricians, pain management and the benefits of breastfeeding among other questions. Because birthing philosophies vary among hospitals and providers, it is wise to decide which philosophy best suits you before choosing a provider or a hospital. The “Art of Having a Baby” Maternity Fair can help prospective parents with all of these questions. The day will feature, financial planning advisers, workshops on pregnancy and parenting and tours of our Maternity Department, as well as a “Speed Dating” session with obstetricians and pediatricians. WHUD’s Kacey Morabito Grean will host a Maternity Fashion show sponsored by Kohl’s Department store and there will be a demonstration of the latest baby gadgets. More than a dozen vendors will offer everything from educational information to baby-related products and services. There will be a light lunch raffle prizes and giveaways.

Financial Check Up – When was your last policy review? By Andrew J. Cavaliere, CLTC Just like visiting your doctor for your annual physical, it is crucial that people systematically review all of their financial plans as well. This includes, but is not limited to, their health coverage, life insurance coverage, disability income protection and retirement plans.

A s k

For the purposes of this month’s article, we will only be focusing on life insurance protection and the circumstances surrounding why you should be seriously considering reviewing your coverage regularly. Here are a few potential life changing events:

1- Marriage and children - Can your spouse run the household without your income? Can your spouse raise your children the way you want them raised without your income? Can your spouse send your children to their college of choice without your income?

2- Purchase of a home and/or property – Will your spouse be able to remain in the home without your income? Will the family have to liquidate other properties at a fire sale without your income? Where will your family be forced to live without your income?

3- Start a new business/take on new partners/raise capital – Will your family be able to sell your business without you

A n

operating it? Is your business worth anything without you operating it? Are you contractually obligated to buy out all of your partner’s family interests and vice versa in case of death or disability? Are you obligated to repay loans and how can your family repay these loans if you are no longer operating the business?

4- Estate Taxes – Is your net worth significant today and if you live to retirement, will your interests continue to grow? Have you analyzed what your children’s potential tax liability will be in 20 or 30 years if you do nothing even at a simple rate of return of say 3-5%? Even more importantly, do you want your children to have to pay dollar for dollar on these tax obligations? Or is it smarter to plan now and have them only pay pennies on that same dollar using life insurance? Do you want to give a major portion of your financial legacy to your family or to the IRS? Albeit, these are very simple questions, but the answers have very serious consequences on the people you care about the most. There is an old saying, “people don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan”… and unfortunately, we see this all the time. If you do not give these matters your attention while you are alive, it will be too late to address them when you are gone. Life insurance not only gives your beneficiaries the immediate cash they need, it also gives them the time and the opportunity to make the best choice(s) possible in the midst of a usually very emotional family upheaval. All of these events require a fresh new review of your current coverage to determine if all your bases are covered in case of an untimely, premature death. Once you have determined the proper amounts of coverage for the family and the business, then you must decide on what are the best products or combination of products to fund the insurance. For example, is a guaranteed 30 year level term product adequate or do we need to purchase a permanent policy like whole or universal life. Upon review, my office often examines older universal life policies which have not been funded properly from inception. These policies, if not periodically evaluated, can lapse just when you need the coverage the most. In other words, problems can arise because: 1) individuals do not make all of their scheduled payments, 2) individuals borrow large sums against the policy and never pay them back, 3) the original policy design assumes an unrealistically high interest rate over the entire life of the insured, or 4) poor investment returns over an extended period of time in equity sub accounts in a variable life contract. This is why it is crucial that you review your policy values every couple of years with a trusted advisor to ensure the policy is performing as originally designed. Specifically, that scheduled premiums remain unchanged, that contract cash values are in line with the original policy illustrations and that the life insurance death benefit remains in force for as long as desired. It also gives you a chance to change your plans and strategies before the eleventh hour when astronomical premiums or potential health issues makes all potential choices cost prohibitive. For more information about Life Insurance Planning please call Andrew J. Cavaliere, CLTC at 914-682-2190 or toll free 877-676-9900. Andrew is certified in Long-Term Care (CLTC) from the Corporation for Long-Term Care Certification, Inc. Andrew is a member in good standing of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), which is the premier Association of financial professionals nationally. Andrew’s offices are located at 50 Main Street, White Plains, NY 10606 and at 500 West Putnam, Greenwich CT 06831.

Healthcare News - Westchester

What do doctors do to treat their own pain? As a board-certified internist who has been in practice for over 13 years, I spend much of my time attempting to alleviate the pain and suffering of my patients. As a clinician, one of the biggest challenges I face is helping my patients deal with musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes—those all-too-common, yet frequently debilitating ailments caused by bad backs, pinched nerves, arthritis, and the like. Unfortunately, much of what I have to offer my patients boils down to the following: take a pain pill, stretch if you can, wait, and hope for the best. After a failed trial of “conservative” therapy a call might go out to the orthopedic surgeon for assistance; a truly satisfactory result is not common. The simple fact is that physicians are not well trained to deal with musculoskeletal pain, and patients can suffer as a result. Thankfully, my views on this topic have been turned completely upside down since I havepersonally discovered Dr. Jonathan Donath’s outstanding practice. After beginning a vigorous exercise regimen I started to experience awful neck and upper back pain, accompanied by numbness and tingling down my left arm and fingers. For weeks I tried to nurse the pain with non steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, but the pain persisted and got to the point that I was almost unable to work, sleep, or most importantly, play guitar. I wasliterally in tears from the excruciating pain. A neurosurgeon diagnosed a herniated disc and pinched nerve in my neck and offered to decompress it with an operation. In desperation I called Dr. Donath instead. My visit to Dr. Donath’s office was an outstanding experience. He spent about an hour with me and combined multiple modalities to fix the herniated disc in my neck: deep massage, active release techniques, traditional manipulation, cold therapy, and finally spinal decompression. After that first hour with Dr. Donath my pain had decreased from a 10/10 down to a manageable 4/10, and I was able to comfortably move my head and neck. That very night I was able to play guitar again. Two days later I went back for another series of treatments and the pain decreased even further. After about five days the pain was absolutely gone. Unbelievable! Since then he has used the same wonderful techniques to help me overcome painful bouts of sciatica as well. My own patients and family members have become “believers” in Dr. Donath’s abilities as well--- the results he achieves are real and lasting. He is my go to guy for the majority of musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes that I now realize are truly treatable. Dr. Robert Sidlow MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine

I am a pediatrician and in my work, I have to bend down a lot and I’m constantly lifting kids. I usually have one to three bad flare ups of low back pain every year. When my back would "go out", I could barely walk to the bathroom and would have to lie down in bed for a few days. I have tried everything: doing nothing and "toughing it out", muscle relaxants, physical therapy, chiropractic, therapeutic massage, and even painful steroid injections. Nothing worked. When I moved to Westchester, I met Dr. Jonathan Donath. In just a couple of sessions with Dr. Donath, the pain completely disappeared. If it hadn't happened to me, I wouldn't have believed it. During my last flare up, I was expecting to be on my back for 2-3 days and in pain for 2 weeks. Instead, after one session with Dr. Donath, I was able to walk; two more sessions and I was fine. I could walk, bend down and I had almost no pain. Since that last back episode, Dr. Donath has helped me with my tendonitis in my right hand and with my chronic knee problems. I recommend Dr. Donath to everyone with back, muscle or joint pain. Even if you have not had relief with other treatments and other Chiropractors, give Dr. Donath a chance. I did and he changed my life. Eugene Dinkevich MD, Mount Vernon, NY It’s my great pleasure to write about Westchester Spinal Decompression Center. I really don’t have words to express my feelings about the care I got in last 3 months. I was almost handicapped, living with terrible pain all the time, crippling my day to day life. I am a medical doctor and work in a hospital with all sorts of amazing physicians, but after seeing a physical therapist, getting epidural steroids injections, many orthopedists and neurosurgeons, finally my destination lead me to see Dr Jonathan Donath. With great skepticism, I lied down for spinal decompression therapy. It was unbelievable that after only two initial sessions, my radiating pain down my leg had almost disappeared. Gradually, I started getting better, started doing exercises that they gave me midway through the treatment. Now, I am doing all my daily activities without any pain. I highly recommend Dr Jonathan and his colleague Dr Kavita for any problems related to the musculoskeletal system, you will definitely feel at home and will get better.
