Healthcare News - Westchester

After helping hundreds of Westchester County herniated disc sufferers eliminated their pain, Local Doctor explains how…

“Back Pain Technology Cheats Mother Nature Helps Herniated Discs Heal Naturally… In As Little As 25 Minutes!” At Last! Westchester County Doctor Offers Technology That Doesn’t Just End SEVERE Pain From Herniated Discs, But Helps Your Body To Start Rebuilding Them… As Fast As Humanly Possible! Best Part: You can check it all out for FREE if you like! There is no doubt… technology has made all of our lives better… and easier. Just about every miraculous medical cure and comfort of modern living can be attributed to amazing breakthroughs in technology. Heck, laser eye surgery can give people who are almost as blind as a bat perfect 20/20 vision. How amazing is that? That’s why it’s no surprise that technology might be able to solve your back and neck pain from herniated/bulging discs or sciatica…for good. Here is why: Back and neck pain can be devastating. And nothing is worse than going to doctor after doctor… trying treatment after treatment… spending money you can’t afford… and still suffering in pain. That’s why… I bet you would love to instantly end your pain… without any risk what-soever… and have it never come back for the rest of your life? Well, that might NOT be so easy. But, what if there was a wonderful advancement in technology that, with a handful of simple, non-invasive treatments, could possibly have you out of pain and on your way to healing naturally? Better yet, what if this technology could possibly heal your herniated/bulging discs (instead of cutting it out like surgery) so you have the best chance to live pain-free and do all the things you want and love to do? And what if this technology was: 3 FDA cleared! 3 Proven safe and effective! 3 Allows your herniated discs to heal naturally without the risky and dangerous side effects of surgery! 3 Relieves pain fast… in some cases in as little as 25 minutes! Well, guess what? There is such technology and there is a very good chance it can help you… like it has already helps thousands of herniated/bulging disc and sciatica sufferers all around the country… No Matter How Bad Your Pain Is, How Long You’ve Been Suffering Or How Many Other Treatments And Doctors Have Failed You! Don’t laugh. It’s really true. Here’s proof…

When you have a herniated disc, compressive forces cause your spinal bones to come together… basically squashing your disc. The space in between your bones decreases and the soft, jello-like disc material leaks out. This disc material that leaks out is called a herniated disc and can cause severe pain, numbness and tingling in your neck, back, arms or legs when the herniation pushes into and “pinches” a nerve. So it makes sense, if you could slightly pull the spinal bones apart… that would open up the space, take the pressure off the disc, the disc off the nerve and solve the problem. Right? But the only problem is… how do you do that? For years and years, doctors have been trying to do it with traction. But traction has been proven ineffective and often very painful. Why? Traction doesn’t work because when you have a herniated or bulging disc, the area is injured and when you try to move, your muscles go into spasm. Spasm is your body’s way of trying to protect you from causing further injury. That’s why traction hurts so much. As soon as the traction starts… your muscles overprotect the area and spasm. But the good news is: Now there is technology that out-smarts your body’s natural spasm reaction. In other words: It fools mother nature! This technology is called non-surgical spinal decompression (NSSD) and here’s how it works… NSSD is very different from plain traction because it has advanced computer technology that actually senses your spinal muscles. When it starts to gently pull, it immediately knows when your muscles start to contract and it stops pulling. As soon as your muscles relax, it starts pulling again. The amazing thing is: the computer senses your muscles contraction so early… you don’t even feel what is going on. Which means you never feel any pain! In fact, the only thing most patients feel is… RELIEF!!! But the best part is: NSSD is able to gently separate your spinal bones which, in many cases, actually sucks the herniated disc material back into the disc where it belongs! This takes away your pain and allows your herniated and bulging discs to heal naturally!

And check this out: Treatments are pleasant and simple. All you have to do is lie on your back, listen to your favorite music, read a magazine… or… take a nap! The wonderful technology does everything while you simply RELAX the pain away! To sum up NSSD: • For most patients it is 100% painless… in fact many patients actually fall asleep during treatment! • Works fast! Most patients get relief after a handful of treatments – some after the very first! • Is non-invasive so it does not have the dangerous risks of surgery! • Gets to the root cause of the problem and helps it heal naturally! Isn’t modern technology wonderful? And wouldn’t you like to… Give This Great Technology A Try… For Free? If you would, there’s great news. There is a Doctor located at 222 Westchester Ave. Suite 405 in White Plains who has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in this wonderful technology and has been treating herniated/bulging disc and sciatica patients with incredible success. His name is Dr. Jonathan Donath DC, MS and he is so excited about the results he’s been getting, he would like to share it with as many pain sufferers as possible. But There Is A Catch… There’s always a catch... isn’t there? Even though this technology has helped a majority of the patients Dr. Donath has treated… it is not a wonder cure and it does not help everyone.

On the right: healthy disc. Center: Herniated disc with soft disc material leaking out. On the left: Herniated disc material compressing or “pinching” nerve.

For that reason, Dr. Donath does a complete examination on every potential patient and only accepts you if he feels you are most likely to get the pain relief and outcome you are looking for. Dr. Donath’s Special Deal For You! Because the economy is so bad and Dr. Donath wants to help you if possible, he is offering the first 17 people who respond to this article a free consultation and NSSD qualification examination. And if you qualify for NSSD treatments, Dr. Donath will also give you one treatment for FREE! And if you do not qualify, Dr. Donath will help you find the best option for you. That’s why, if you suffer with pain from a herniated/bulging disc or sciatica you should call 914-259-8104 right now. When Barbara answers the phone, simply tell her you would like your free non-surgical spinal decompression consultation and examination. If you are one of the first 17, she will schedule you within the next few days. If you are in a lot of pain or already scheduled for surgery, tell Barbara and she will be sure to get you in immediately. Maybe even today.

On right: Herniated disc with spinal bones “squished” together. Center: NSSD slightly pulls the spinal bones apart, opens up the disc space and allows herniated material to move back into the disc. Left: Herniated material completely back in center of disc allows the disc to heal naturally. Your consultation and examination should take about 60 minutes. During this time you can get all of your questiones answered in a warm and friendly environment. You will know exactly what’s causing your pain and the best possible way to solve it. Dr. Donath will explain to you all your possible options along with his recomendations so you can make the best choice for YOU.

Why Limited To 17? Dr. Donath has limited the number he will accept right now to 17 because he does not believe patients should wait and they should also get the quality personal attention they deserve. When you go for your free visit, I’m sure you will see how unique and pleasant the experience is. It’s nice to be treated like a person and not a number or based on insurance coverage. It’s also nice to know exactly what’s causing your pain and how to relieve it as fast as possible. Dr. Donath’s favorite cases are the one’s that were able to cancel back surgery after only a handful of treatments. Dr. Donath also loves when a herniated disc patient that is in excruciating pain and thinks they’ve tried everything, lays down on the NSSD table, takes a 25 minute nap… and… wakes up with all their pain GONE! Just imagine how it would feel to have all your pain finally gone. Imagine going to bed and being able to sleep the entire night through… … and waking up refreshed and energized… ready to take on the brand new day – without the pain and stiffness that has been terrorizing you. And imagine finally knowing you have the solution to your herniated disc pain. Well, you may not have to just “imagine” anymore… because… NSSD might start relieving your pain… in just 25 minutes! So, if you’d like to see if you qualify and give this amazing technology a try for free… give Barbara a call at 914-259-8104 right now. Why wait one more day in pain when the solution may be one quick phone call away? Call now before someone else gets your free spot. One More Thing It’s Important… Ever since getting this wonderful technology, Dr. Donath’s office has been flooded with calls. For that reason, if when you call, the lines are busy or you go to voice mail… just keep calling back. The possibility of living pain-free is well worth the time and effort it may take you to get through and schedule your appointment. 914-259-8104

10 Healthy Gifts For Mother’s

Day

Skip the flowers this Mother’s Day and give mom something she really needs — the gift of good health. Most moms will truly appreciate that your Mother's Day gift is aimed at keeping her happy, healthy, and in your life for a long time. Healthcare News came up with a list of healthy gift ideas for every mom. 1. Dark Chocolate: Here’s a sweet truth if mom has a sweet tooth – dark chocolate packs a powerful health punch. Instead of sugary candy or milk chocolate that is higher in saturated fat, opt for dark cocoa which decreases the risk of heart disease and stroke, protect the skin and improve the mood. 2. Fitness Gift Bag: Load up a new gym bag with things for the gym. Ideas may include a new sports bottle, pedometer, some new workout attire and an iPod pre-loaded with her favorite workout music. 3. Unique Fruit Bouquet: An edible fruit arrangement is a healthy way to encourage the eating of fresh fruit.

6. Sweat Sessions: If mom is a fan of yoga or Pilates or wants to give personal training a try, set her up with a few classes or private sessions. A gift certificate is a great way for her to try her favorite class/es or set up a one-on-one session at her leisure. 7. More sleep: Adequate sleep is linked to a lower risk of type 2 dibetes, as well as other health conditions. Buy your mom satin sheets, a new mattress, a mattress cover, or a luxurious pillow to encourage better sleep. Restorative sleep is critical to our immune system and heart health. For new mothers, offer to watch the baby while she takes a nap. This will also allow you to spend quality time with the kids, so "it's a win-win," she says.

4. Healthy Gift Basket: Help her reach her nutrition and weight loss goals by combining thoughtful gift ideas like a low-calorie cookbook, health bars, infused oils and vinegars for salads, a subscription to a healthy cooking magazine and a personalized journal to track her diet and progress.

8. Spa Weekend: Give a gift that will truly touch her this year – a luxurious spa getaway that includes a massage, facial, manicure and/or pedicure. You can either go with her, or get her a gift certificate.

5. Gym Membership: This is a great way to help her kickstart her healthy workout routine. A gym membership can also make a great gift if she already belongs and wants to renew her membership. Consider buying one for yourself, too, and work out as a team!

9. Healthy Brunch: Make the most important meal of the day the most delicious – and healthy. Look up tasty, nutritious brunch recipes online. From eggs and turkey bacon, to whole-wheat pancakes and hearty quiches, the options are endless.

10. Exercise Equipment or Sporting Goods: If you're looking for a gift for an active woman, consider sporting equipment. Does she play golf or tennis? Does she do yoga or kettlebell training? Maybe she enjoys biking or paddling? Specific equipment or props for her favorite activity are sure to delight such an enthusiast.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our readers! We are celebrating mothers, sisters, aunts, friends and kids everywhere on May 10. Mother's Day is a celebration honoring mothers and motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in spring. In 1907, Anna Jarvis, a Philadelphia native, began a campaign to establish a national Mother's Day. She persuaded her mother's church in Grafton, West Virginia to celebrate Mother's Day on the second anniversary of her mother's death, the second Sunday of May. By the next year Mother's Day was also celebrated in Philadelphia. Jarvis and her supporters wrote to ministers, businessman, and politicians in their quest to establish a national Mother's Day. It was successful. By 1911 Mother's Day was celebrated in almost every state. President Woodrow Wilson, in 1914, made the official announcement proclaiming Mother's Day a national holiday that was to be held each year on the second Sunday of May. While many countries of the world celebrate their own Mother's Day at different times throughout the year, there are some countries such as Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Australia, and Belgium which also celebrate Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May. Of course, some of the most special moms in the world live right here in Westchester County, from White Plains, to Rye, to Scarsdale, to Pelham. Happy Mother’s Day to all of you from the staff at Healthcare News. Burke Rehabilitation Center continues centennial celebration with first monthly legacy lobby lecture Lobby lecture series launches with a focus on Burke’s 100 years of influence in Westchester County Burke Rehabilitation Center, the only acute rehabilitation hospital in White Plains, NY, continued its year-long celebration commemorating its centennial year with a lecture by Burke’s Director of Marketing & External Relations, Richard Sgaglio, Ph.D. The lecture took place at the hospital’s new lobby exhibit, which was unveiled in January and celebrated with a ribbon cutting attended by Burke researchers, community members and local dignitaries. Sgaglio’s lecture gave attendees an overview of Burke’s influence on Westchester County and the ever-changing field of rehabilitation medicine and research. He gave listeners a sense of the “then” and “now” of Burke’s research, comparing and contrasting artifacts in the exhibit with the latest in rehabilitative technology, such as early prosthetics and the latest in 3-D printing for limbs. He discussed the exhibit’s historical items and documents and how they contribute to our understanding of Burke’s rehabilitative work in the wake of two world wars and the evolving medical landscape. Artifacts in the exhibit include original blueprints of Burke’s campus dating back to the turn of the century, medical equipment and an authentic World War I uniform. “I’m honored to be able to tell the Burke story and inform people about the great work Burke has done over the last 100 years and the impact it’s had on the field of rehabilitation. Burke’s centennial year marks an important milestone for the hospital and proves that the work Burke researchers and scientists are doing is paving the way for the future of rehabilitation,” said Richard Sgaglio, Ph.D.

Burke lectures take place at 4:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month. On June 3, Burke will welcome Sam White to its campus. He is a respected architect based in New York City and the great grandson of Stanford White, one of the architects of McKim, Mead and White, the architecture firm responsible for Burke’s campus and the original New York Penn Station. In addition to this lecture series, Burke’s year-long centennial celebration will include its annual Heels & Wheels 5K race on May 3, where able-bodied and disabled runners can compete side-by-side for fun and prizes. On June 16,

Burke will hold its Burke Award Centennial Dinner to honor members of the Burke community who have demonstrated excellence in commitment to rehabilitative care. Friday through Saturday, Oct. 910, Burke will host the Neurorehabilitation Symposium, inviting leading researchers and scientists to Burke’s campus for impressive lectures and think tanks led by the best and brightest in rehabilitative research. The symposium will be followed by a fun-filled, familyfriendly Community Birthday Extravaganza event on Saturday, Oct. 10, which is free to the public and will offer games and activities, food and entertainment.

More information on the lecture series and Burke’s upcoming events throughout 2015 is available on our website at http://www.burke.org/100years. About Burke Rehabilitation Hospital Burke Rehabilitation Hospital is a private, not-for-profit, acute rehabilitation hospital. Founded in 1915, it is the only hospital in Westchester County dedicated solely to rehabilitation medicine. Burke offers both inpatient and outpatient programs for those who have experienced a disabling illness, traumatic injury or joint replacement surgery.

The hospital is part of Burke Rehabilitation Center, which also includes Burke Medical Research Institute and Burke’s Outpatient Division. Burke’s world-renowned doctors and therapists provide state-of-theart treatment while its research scientists explore the frontiers of neurological and rehabilitation medicine. All share the Burke mission to ensure that every patient makes the fullest possible recovery from illness or injury regardless of their ability to pay. For additional information on Burke Rehabilitation Center, please visit burke.org.

“I’m honored to be able to tell the Burke story and inform people about the great work Burke has done over the last 100 years,” said Richard Sgaglio, Ph.D. White Plains, New York

BIG dIfference to your diet Don’t skip breakfast By simply making sure you have something healthy for breakfast each morning such as yogurt, fruit, eggs on toast, or a smoothie, you will help prevent those common mid-morning energy slumps and cravings for coffee and sweets. Breakfast also provides you with a good proportion of your daily nutrients and helps set you up for a day of healthier eating.

Water down your fruit juices Fruit juice is very high in natural sugars called fructose, which can contribute to unbalanced blood sugar levels and weight gain. So if you love juice try pouring just a quarter of a glass of juice and then fill the rest with water. You will soon get used to the flavor and you will be reducing your sugars and upping your water intake. Fresh juice is always best, but if you buy bottled make sure it contains no added sugars.

If YOU ExPErIENCE: • A dull ache, burning or heaviness in the legs • Swelling of the feet, ankles, calves or legs • Itching, dry, stretched or scaling skin • Sores, bleeding and/or bruising after a minor injury You may be a candidate for insurance paid treatment. 87% of people with varicose veins do not seek treatment. But, varicose veins are not just unattractive and painful. Varicose veins also can be dangerous! These superficial veins are where you develop phlebitis (superficial clot and inflammation). Phlebitis increases the chance of associated deep vein thrombosis, and this increases the risk of pulmonary emboli — life-threatening blood clots IN-OFFICE PROCEDURES • MINIMAL DOWNTIME • LATEST LASER TECHNOLOGY

Snack on protein-rich foods Instead of your mid-morning donut break go for something healthy that is high in protein like a trail mix (raw nuts, seeds and dried fruit), low-fat cottage cheese on a rice cake, or hummus and veggie sticks. Snacking on protein-rich foods in-between meals is the best way to curb sugar cravings, and keep you satisfied until your next meal.

Go fishing Swap red meat for some oily fish a couple of nights a week. Fish like salmon, trout, and mackerel are packed with healthy omega-3 fats, which help dampen inflammation in the body and boost your memory. Eating too much red meat can have the opposite effect, it can promote inflammation.

Urgent Care Centers: The Emerging and Convenient Method for Healthcare By Gina Cappelli, President of Forme Urgent Care and Wellness Center When you are sick or injured, an urgent care center can be a very convenient option as opposed to having to wait for an appointment with your physician or going to the dreaded emergency room. Urgent care centers are usually open for patients 7 days a week from the early morning, to the late evening, and they usually don’t require patients to make an appointment. The long flexible hours of urgent centers provide a convenient, and stress free environment for people to come in and get immediate medical attention. Urgent care centers are often the best bet for patients who need medical attention for non-life threatening conditions.

There are many reasons why urgent care centers are becoming so popular, such as: Urgent care is regularly available. Urgent care is the most convenient and readily available healthcare option available for patients today. The majority of primary care doctor’s offices are only open Monday through Friday, and many offices close at 5pm. Few primary care doctors have after hours appointments available. Meanwhile, urgent care centers are usually open to patients 365 days a year, from the early morning to late evening and usually do not require patients to make an appointment. Urgent care is NOT emergency care. There is a common misconception that urgent care is equivalent to emergency care, however, that is not true. Emergency rooms are designed for life threatening and/or limb saving care, while urgent care centers are for treating conditions that need to be taken care of immediately, but are not a major emergency. Additionally, the wait times at urgent care centers are normally much quicker than those in the emergency room. Urgent care centers save both time and energy. Urgent care centers provide timely care to patients, all hours of the day. According to the AAUCM, the wait time to see a health care provider in an urgent care center is typically only half an hour or less, while an emergency room visit can require multiple hours of waiting. If a patient is suffering from an ailment that is not fit for the emergency room, it is more cost and time efficient to seek medical care at a local urgent care center that can see patients more quickly and less expensive than the emergency room. While value is high, the price is not. A visit to an urgent care facility is likely to be about one-third to one-half the price of a standard emergency room visit. According to a study conducted by RAND Corp, up to 27% of emergency room cases could have been treated by an urgent care center, which would have saved a total of $4.4 billion dollars per year in health costs. Research by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield showed that if a patient were to seek medical care for a sore throat, choosing an urgent care center over an emergency room would provide this person with nearly 85% savings. In most situations, you will save time and money by going to an urgent care center instead of an emergency room. If you have a minor injury such as a bad cut or ear infection, you may end up waiting for hours in the emergency room and paying hundreds or thousands of dollars for your care, while at an urgent care center you would be taken care of in a speedy, and personable way for a fraction of the emergency room price. Additionally, most urgent care centers are open for extended hours, to cater to their patients’ needs. Also, you will usually end up paying much lower co-pays at an urgent care center as opposed to an emergency room. Gina Cappelli is the President of Forme Urgent Care and Wellness Center in White Plains, NY, which in addition to urgent care also provides a broad spectrum of specialty medicine, rehabilitation and wellness programs all under one roof. Forme accepts most insurance plans. For more information, please visit: www.formeurgentcare.com.

The Importance of Elder Law: You must protect your assets, family and future now! For nearly 30 years, practicing law has been Ely Rosenzveig’s passion. His inspiration? That comes from, among other things, his life experiences, the people he has met, and the clients he works with every day. The widow who didn’t have a will and was concerned about her financial future. The family that was reeling from health issues impacting their elderly loved ones without any planning in place to address their needs, leaving them with the prospect of exorbitantly expensive care needs. Ely Rosenzveig was a rabbi in Westchester County. The plight of some in his congregation moved him to practice elder law and trust and estate planning. He would become a senior partner at one of the foremost elder law firms in the country, but left to join hands with his son, Ariel. “I really jumped at the opportunity to work in this area of law,” Ely Rosenzveig said. “I think it’s special kind of work. To help people and work with your son is incredibly rewarding. Ariel is a great asset – a wonderful and gifted young attorney.” The law firm of Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, P.C. in White Plains practices in all areas of elder law, including trust and

estate planning, administration, and litigation, tax counsel, asset protection and special needs planning, Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security disability benefits, guardianships, long term care planning, spousal recovery claims, and Medicaid lien resolutions. Father and son pride themselves on an unyielding commitment to the zealous advocacy of their clients’ interests. Estate planning is one of the most important steps any person can take to make sure that their final property and health care wishes are honored, and that loved ones are provided for in their absence. A comprehensive estate plan can resolve a number of legal questions that arise whenever anyone dies. Appropriate estate and Medicaid planning can help preserve assets, reduce taxes, and help individuals qualify for Medicaid. “People don’t want to talk about illness and death,” Ariel Rosenzveig said. “It’s a tough subject. People are reluctant, but the type of measures that we implement for our clients can save them and their loved ones a lot of money. Proper planning will help provide financial and emotional security for all involved.”

The firm is very experienced in making sure that those eligible for Medicaid and Medicare get the benefits they deserve. Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, P.C. has been very successful in negotiating the complex bureaucratic minefield in which Medicaid is now mired, a dynamic only exacerbated with the passage of the Deficit reduction Act of 2006, and the new rules regarding the look-back requirements, and penalty period calculations for non-Medicaid exempt asset transfers. The firm has achieved remarkable results for clients on a host of Medicaid related issues, from getting Medicaid approvals for coverage of home care and institutional care benefits, to very accommodative resolutions of Medicaid spousal recovery claims, where the office of Medicaid aggressively pursues the non-institutionalized (i.e., or “community”) spouse for Medicaid benefits provided. No matter what the case, Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, P.C. prides itself on working with each client individually, catering to each one’s diverse needs. Estate planning should begin at a young age with a will, health care proxy, living

will and durable power of attorney. As you grow older and accumulate assets, it is especially important that you speak with an experience elder law attorney issues pertaining to issues concerning Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and further estate planning. Elder law is about more than just saving money. When viewed properly, elder law is about two major things: First, ensuring that your personal wishes — financial, medical, and legal — are carried out; and second, understanding that elder law is a family matter affecting an intricate web of individual relationships. Knowing that your potential long-term care needs have already been addressed frees you and your family from needless worry. And Ely and Ariel Rosenzveig are there to help their cherished clients every step of the way. “We want every client to feel like they are our only client,” Ely Rosenzveig said. “We are totally committed to ensuring that we be fully responsive to our clients’ every need. For us, this is tremendously rewarding. It is the very reason why we have become elder law attorneys.”

DR. AlEx HIlARIo, ClINIC DIRECToR

Chiropractic Rehabilitation Source ChiroRehabSource.com Tel: 914-584-6864 199 Main Street, Suite 608, White Plains, NY 10601

If you're suffering from nerve problems in the arms and legs, you must read about a clinical study that showed

How 85% of Patients Eliminated Numbness, Tingling, or Sharp Pains Numbness, tingling, and pain are extremely annoying problems. It may come and go...interrupts your sleep...and even makes your arm or legs feel weak at times. Maybe you've even been to other doctors and they claim all the tests indicate you should feel fine.

If You Read Nothing Else, Read This: More than 20 million Americans suffer from peripheral neuropathy, a problem caused by damage to the nerves that supply your arms and legs. This painful condition interferes with your body's ability to transmit messages to your muscles, skin, joints, or internal organs. If ignored or mistreated, neuropathy can lead to irreversible health conditions. Why not get help by those trained to correct the major cause of peripheral neuropathy. Read the full facts on this page. More Pills Are Not the Solution A common treatment for many nerve problems is the 'take some pills and wait and see' method. While this may be necessary for temporary relief of severe symptoms, using them long term is no way to live. Some of the more common drugs given include pain pills, anti-seizure mediations, and anti-depressants -- all of which have serious side effects. The Likely Cause of Your Problem My name is Dr. Alex Hilario, clinic director at Chiropractic Rehabilitation Source. I've been helping people with neuropathy and nerve problems for more than 10 years.

Often neuropathy is caused by a degenerating spine pressing on the nerve roots. This can happen in any of the vertebral joints from the neck all the way down to the tail bone. The good news is that chiropractic treatments have proven effective in helping to remove the pressure on the nerves. By using gentle techniques, I'm able to release the pressure that has built up on the nerve. This allows the nerve to heal and the symptoms to go away. For example, numerous studies have proven chiropractic's effectiveness in helping nerve conditions. Patients showed an 85.5% resolution of the nerve symptoms after only 9 chiropractic treatments. - Journal of Chiropractic Medicine 2008 With chiropractic care, patients had “significant improvement in perceived comfort and function, nerve conduction and finger sensation overall.” – JMPT 1998 “Significant increase in grip strength and normalization of motor and sensory latencies were noted. Orthopedic tests were negative. Symptoms dissipated.” – JMPT 1994 What these studies mean is that you could soon be enjoying life...without those aggravating nerve problems. Could This Be Your Solution? It’s time for you to find out if chiropractic will be your neuropathy solution.

• An in-depth consultation about your health and well-being where I will listen…really listen…to the details of your case. • A complete neuromuscular examination. • A thorough analysis of your exam and x-ray findings so we can start mapping out your plan to being pain free. • I'll answer your most probing questions about nerve problems and how chiropractic can help. Until June 10, 2015 you can get everything I’ve listed here for only $47. The normal price for this type of evaluation is $250, so you’re saving a considerable amount by taking me up on this offer. Call 914-584-6864 now. We can get you scheduled for your consultation, and exam as soon as there’s an opening. Our office is located in the heart of White Plains near Starbucks, Galleria Mall and Wal-Mart, when you call, tell the receptionist you’d like to come in for the Nerve Evaluation so she can get you on the schedule and make sure you receive proper credit for this special offer. Sincerely, Alex Hilario, D.C. P.S. Remember, you only have until June 10 to reserve an appointment at this significant discount. Why suffer for years in misery? That’s no way to live, not when there could be an easy solution to your problem.

For 14 days only, $30 will get you all the services I normally charge new patients $250 for!

P.P.S. Nothing’s worse than feeling great mentally, but physically feeling held back from life because your arms or legs hurt – and the pain just won’t go away!

When you schedule an appointment you’re going to receive something that NOT only helps you lose weight, but also helps your appearance, your face, your complexion and even your body structure. Listen, I am a regular practicing doctor in White Plains, and I love helping people, just like you, lose that stubborn weight, without rigorous dieting, and then how to keep it off - permanently.

Safe & Easy! My exclusive weight loss management system is completely SAFE and has been proven to work. It is based on scientific principles that cause almost immediate changes and is strictly administered along common sense protocols. Here’s what most people don’t understand. When you’re heavy, you lose your strength, vitality, and you can become feeble. And on top of that you can age prematurely because your “fat” cells clog your body’s vital organs. That will change after you start utilizing this system. You may be like some

people who have lost their figure due to this FAT clogging weight gain. The problem is, most overweight people are unable to find a simple, easy to follow system to reduce their fat and then keep it off. Even their coordination, daily movement and attractiveness are destroyed with this weight gain. That will all change when you start using this system.

Here is what I can do for you. CALL the office NOW!. You won’t have to make any radical changes in your lifestyle with this program, … have surgery, or take any harmful drugs. Your treatments are private and you will start to lose up to 1-2 pounds per day, depending on your size, age, condition of your body and follow through. You will consult with me personally for follow up and questions. Once you’ve reached your desired weight, you’ll have your shape back, have more energy, and you’ll have your self-esteem back. Doesn’t get any better than that!!

Another day, another fad diet. At least, that’s the way it seems. There are no-carb diets, low-fat regimes and the lemon detox. Then there are the rules: Banning white foods, abstaining from coffee or eating only apples. The list of do’s and dont’s seems never ending. So how do we separate fact from fiction? Here is our list of big, fat diet lies. Carbs are good any time of the day Banning bread and pasta from your diet altogether is not recommended, but limiting your carbohydrate intake in the evening will help with weight loss. Here’s a tip: The best time of day for carbohydrate intake is breakfast because it gives you energy to get through the day. Eat wholegrain breads and cereal and avoid processed carbohydrates such as white bread

Lifting weights makes you bulk up, rather than lose weight This is a big misconception, especially among women: Weight training will not only make you leaner and more toned, but that the more muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn, even when you are resting.

Emad Soliman, M.D., Ms.C. Chief of Neurlogy, St. Johns Riverside Hospital, St. Joseph Medical Center

Here’s a tip: In addition to your cardio workout, aim for two to three weight-training sessions a week to increase the amount of muscle.

Manjeet Singh-Dhallu, M.D. Director of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases

Salads are the best diet option Just because there's some lettuce in a caesar salad, it doesn't mean it's healthy. While salads are a great lunch choice, they can also be packed with a lot of fat, particularly if you add nuts, cheese, dressing and avocado.

Rishi Batra, M.D. Director of Neuromuscular Disorders

Here’s a tip: Make your own salad with fat-free dressing.

Calvin Natanzon, M.D. Director of Epilepsy

Low fat is best Beware of foods that are "low fat" or "fat free.” While they might be low in fat, many of them are laden with sugar, so they often have just as many calories as the full-fat version. Yogurts can be a trap, too. Some brands are low in fat, but high in sugar.

Gina Guarneri, ACNP-BC Pain Management and Neurology Nurse Practioner

Here’s a tip: Read labels carefully. Check not only the fat content but also the total kilojoules per serving, as well as sugar and salt levels. Nuts are fattening A handful of almonds a day can help you lose weight, increase your metabolic rate and even lower cholesterol. Plus, nuts are a proteinrich snack, which makes you feel fuller faster, and for longer. Here’s a tip: Include one third of a cup of raw nuts (almonds, cashews, walnuts) in your daily diet.

Leveraging your Life Insurance Policy to Pay for LTC costs By Andrew J. Cavaliere, CLTC Today many people want to buy Long-Term Care Insurance but cannot because it is too expensive or they are uninsurable. This presents a huge worry for mom and dad as they grow older with the real looming threat of catastrophic expenses due to severe chronic illness. One solution to this problem is to leverage an existing life insurance policy. Accelerating the living benefits in an existing life insurance policy while the owner is still alive can help the family to pay for long-term care expenses. Instead of surrendering the policy for cash or allowing a policy to lapse, the owner can convert the policy into a “Long-Term Care Benefit Plan”. What does converting a policy mean? It means the policy is sold as a “Life Settlement” for a percentage of the death benefit and the funds are placed in a protected Benefit Account. Monthly payments for long term care services are deducted directly from the benefit account and are tax-free. Life insurance is legally recognized as an asset and the owner’s property rights are guaranteed by a 100 year old Supreme Court decision. The “Long-Term Care Benefit Plan” is a unique financial option for seniors because all health conditions are accepted, and there are no waiting periods, no care limitations, no costs to apply, no requirement to be terminally ill, no premium payments and no loan to pay back. What is a Life Settlement? An important step in converting a life insurance policy into a long-term care benefit is a transaction called a Life Settlement or Viatical Settlement. A Life or Viatical Settlement is the sale of an existing life insurance policy to a third party, facilitated by a Provider, for more than its cash surrender value, but less than its net death benefit. In exchange for paying the purchase price to the seller as well as assuming responsibility for future premiums, the buyer will receive the full death benefit when the original insured dies. Most states regulate life and viatical settlement transactions and many of the specific regulations in place are intended to protect individuals that are selling their insurance policies. For example, in most states, the seller of an insurance policy through a life settlement can cancel the transaction by returning the purchase price within 15 days of receipt. More than 40 states have regulations in place regarding the sale of life insurance policies to third parties. What is the difference between a Life Settlement and a Viatical Settlement? Often times, the terms “Life Settlement” and “Viatical Settlement” are used interchangeably. However, some state regulations use the term Viatical Settlement to refer to cases where the person covered by the insurance policy is terminally ill or has a shorter expected life span (e.g., less than two years). For those states which make the distinction, Viatical Settlement transactions may be subject to additional regulatory requirements (e.g. minimum pricing relative to the death benefit). What is a Provider? Life Settlement Providers are private companies that are licensed by state governments to serve as the purchaser in a life settlement transaction. Providers are responsible for ensuring that each transaction complies with applicable regulations. The top Providers in the industry fund many transactions each year and have in-house compliance departments to carefully review transactions. The standard forms used by a Provider for transactions in a particular state are usually subject to review and approval by the regulators in that state. For more information about Life Settlements please call Andrew J. Cavaliere, CLTC at 914-682-2190 or toll free 877-676-9900. Andrew is certified in Long-Term Care (CLTC) from the Corporation for Long-Term Care Certification, Inc. Andrew is a member in good standing of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), the premier Association of financial professionals nationally. Andrew’s offices are located at 50 Main Street, White Plains, NY 10606 and at 500 West Putnam, Greenwich CT 06831.

7 steps to eco-friendly shopping Eco-friendly shopping doesn't have to be difficult. Here are seven things you can do to make your shopping trips greener. 1. Shop online: But avoid next-day air, because it uses five times the fuel of things sent by ground. 2. Buy in large amounts: It's all about saving on the packaging. Buy a large gallon size olive oil and the biggest bags of granola you can find. You can always decant them into smaller jars when you get home. 3. Bulk food bins are the way to go: Most major health food stores have these bins, and they are fabulous because they are cheaper and greener. If you want to be super green, reuse plastic bags from home to fill. 4. Choose organic: Buying products made from organic ingredients is not only healthier and safer for you and your family, but it also helps to protect groundwater, farmers and wildlife.

5. Share your purchases: Before making a trip to the grocery store, call a couple of neighbors or friends to see if you can shop for them. They can e-mail you a list and it'll save them a trip. It'll be their turn next time! Alternatively, carpool with a couple of girlfriends and enjoy a good gossip on the way. 6. Always bring reusable totes to the store: A great tip is to bring along two or three reusable plastic containers, too. You can save on time, money, and extra packaging at the deli/bakery counter. Just have them weigh your salami or cheese and get them to put it straight into your container. 7. Save your produce bags: Save those flimsy produce bags to bring along to your next shop. That way, you'll save time and fossil fuel.

A Solution to a Growing Problem For Seniors When seniors and business owners own a life or Key-Man Insurance, they’re essentially sitting on untapped funds. Through a life settlement, Advanced Loan or 1035 Exchange transaction they have the ability to harness the power of their life insurance. These options are not known to many, in tapping into funds to pay for:

Advanced Benefit Loan versus Mortgage Loan: As people look to finally settle down and enjoy the fruits of their labor, it is estimated that 75 million people will look to retire over the next twenty plus years. This calculates to an average of 10,000 people a day as they reach the age of 65. These numbers have many businesses reaching out to this particular demographic in the fields on medicine, travel, finance, and home development.

• In-home and Long Term Care • Grandchildren College Education • Family trust establishment • Paying off mortgage and business loans • Recapitalization of a businees • And Other Essential Services

Home developers have started to market their new home developments in an effort to reach out to this growing community. These new developments look to cater to residents, who are 62+ years, in small towns in the tri state are. These new developments have all the amenities of a self-contained community, such as restaurants, marinas, yacht clubs, shopping and access to mass transit to travel in and out of New York City. With the construction of all these new communities and all of its luxuries, these developments come with a high price tag. For some retirees, the price is too exuberant and taking out a mortgage is not desirable. Most retirees just want to enjoy their new home and not work on paying a 30 year mortgage. This is where an Advanced Benefit Loan can help. Taking an advanced benefit loan against their life insurance, they will not have to take a mortgage to pay for their new home. The loan is collateralized against their life insurance. When the life insurance contract matures, the loan is paid by the life insurance proceeds; anything left will be inherited by their heirs. Why do this?? 1. No payment of income tax, this is a loan against your life insurance. 2. No home mortgage loan, you will own your home out right. 3. No credit checks or credit approval by banks. This loan program is designed to assist seniors in accessing cash from their existing life insurance policy with no income requirements, no future premium obligations, and no out-of-pocket expenses. In order to qualify, a senior must have in-force a life insurance policy. A senior will never be rejected due to lack of income, poor credit history, or previous bankruptcy. If you would like to apply or have questions, call us today, we can speak with you to access your financial need, review your life insurance policy and determine your eligibility. If you are eligible, you will be asked to complete a loan application and provide requested documentation. Once we complete our review of your policy, we will notify you of approval and the amount of the loan.

First Phelps Family Residency Grad to join Phelps Medical Associates In June, the family medicine residency program at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center will graduate its first class of residents. One of the members of the inaugural class, Anesh Badiwala, MD, has accepted a position with Phelps Medical Associates, the hospital's primary and specialty care medical group. “From the beginning, a fundamental provided goal of our program has been to cultivate the best and brightest family physician leaders for our community through innovation and partnership,” says Shantie Harkisoon, MD, program director. “We are very proud of Dr. Badiwala for being one of the first residents to fulfill that vision. Westchester is fortunate to be gaining such a fine physician and we look forward to working with him in his new capacity as a member of Phelps Medical Associates.” “Achieving a position with Phelps has been a personal goal of mine since starting with the residency program in 2012,” said Dr. Badiwala, who earned his medical degree from the American University of Antigua. “I feel grateful, jubilant and honored. The program has accelerated my skills and knowledge with the support of exemplary faculty and medical staff. I look forward to serving the community and supporting Phelps' visionary plan for the future.” In congratulating Dr. Badiwala on his appointment, Phelps President and CEO Daniel Blum said, “I'm ecstatic you're joining us and look forward to seeing the growth of your practice. I know you will serve as a role model to every new physician minted at Phelps and an inspiration to those physicians who have been in practice for many years. Welcome aboard!” The new residency program in Family Medicine received national accreditation in 2011 and was designed to help meet the growing shortage of primary care physicians in the U.S. and in Westchester County. The first such program to be established in New York State since 1995, the NYMC Phelps Family Medicine Residency Program is a collaboration between three major health institutions in Westchester County: New York Medical College, Phelps Memorial Hospital Center and Open Door Family Medical Centers. What do doctors do to treat their own pain? As a board-certified internist who has been in practice for over 13 years, I spend much of my time attempting to alleviate the pain and suffering of my patients. As a clinician, one of the biggest challenges I face is helping my patients deal with musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes—those all-too-common, yet frequently debilitating ailments caused by bad backs, pinched nerves, arthritis, and the like. Unfortunately, much of what I have to offer my patients boils down to the following: take a pain pill, stretch if you can, wait, and hope for the best. After a failed trial of “conservative” therapy a call might go out to the orthopedic surgeon for assistance; a truly satisfactory result is not common. The simple fact is that physicians are not well trained to deal with musculoskeletal pain, and patients can suffer as a result. Thankfully, my views on this topic have been turned completely upside down since I havepersonally discovered Dr. Jonathan Donath’s outstanding practice. After beginning a vigorous exercise regimen I started to experience awful neck and upper back pain, accompanied by numbness and tingling down my left arm and fingers. For weeks I tried to nurse the pain with non steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, but the pain persisted and got to the point that I was almost unable to work, sleep, or most importantly, play guitar. I wasliterally in tears from the excruciating pain. A neurosurgeon diagnosed a herniated disc and pinched nerve in my neck and offered to decompress it with an operation. In desperation I called Dr. Donath instead. My visit to Dr. Donath’s office was an outstanding experience. He spent about an hour with me and combined multiple modalities to fix the herniated disc in my neck: deep massage, active release techniques, traditional manipulation, cold therapy, and finally spinal decompression. After that first hour with Dr. Donath my pain had decreased from a 10/10 down to a manageable 4/10, and I was able to comfortably move my head and neck. That very night I was able to play guitar again. Two days later I went back for another series of treatments and the pain decreased even further. After about five days the pain was absolutely gone. Unbelievable! Since then he has used the same wonderful techniques to help me overcome painful bouts of sciatica as well. My own patients and family members have become “believers” in Dr. Donath’s abilities as well--- the results he achieves are real and lasting. He is my go to guy for the majority of musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes that I now realize are truly treatable. Dr. Robert Sidlow MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine

I am a pediatrician and in my work, I have to bend down a lot and I’m constantly lifting kids. I usually have one to three bad flare ups of low back pain every year. When my back would "go out", I could barely walk to the bathroom and would have to lie down in bed for a few days. I have tried everything: doing nothing and "toughing it out", muscle relaxants, physical therapy, chiropractic, therapeutic massage, and even painful steroid injections. Nothing worked. When I moved to Westchester, I met Dr. Jonathan Donath. In just a couple of sessions with Dr. Donath, the pain completely disappeared. If it hadn't happened to me, I wouldn't have believed it. During my last flare up, I was expecting to be on my back for 2-3 days and in pain for 2 weeks. Instead, after one session with Dr. Donath, I was able to walk; two more sessions and I was fine. I could walk, bend down and I had almost no pain. Since that last back episode, Dr. Donath has helped me with my tendonitis in my right hand and with my chronic knee problems. I recommend Dr. Donath to everyone with back, muscle or joint pain. Even if you have not had relief with other treatments and other Chiropractors, give Dr. Donath a chance. I did and he changed my life. Eugene Dinkevich MD, Mount Vernon, NY It’s my great pleasure to write about Westchester Spinal Decompression Center. I really don’t have words to express my feelings about the care I got in last 3 months. I was almost handicapped, living with terrible pain all the time, crippling my day to day life. I am a medical doctor and work in a hospital with all sorts of amazing physicians, but after seeing a physical therapist, getting epidural steroids injections, many orthopedists and neurosurgeons, finally my destination lead me to see Dr Jonathan Donath. With great skepticism, I lied down for spinal decompression therapy. It was unbelievable that after only two initial sessions, my radiating pain down my leg had almost disappeared. Gradually, I started getting better, started doing exercises that they gave me midway through the treatment. Now, I am doing all my daily activities without any pain. I highly recommend Dr Jonathan and his colleague Dr Kavita for any problems related to the musculoskeletal system, you will definitely feel at home and will get better.
