Good Samaritans Jump Into Action and Save a Life Port Jefferson, NY - On Thursday, April 6th, the Suffolk County Police Department and JUMP TO FILE #050417110 Suffolk County Fire Rescue & Emergency Services (FRES) received 911 calls reporting a car that went into the water at Port Jefferson Harbor. The accident happened at the Brookhaven Town Boat Ramp. At 5:33 P.M., Port Jefferson Fire Department received the call from Suffolk FRES regarding a water rescue. A unit with the Suffolk County Medical Examiner Office was first to arrive at the ramp to find an SUV submerged completely underwater. Heavy rain and wind made the conditions even worse at the time. Three good samaritans, including Neil DeVine of Port Jefferson Station, sprang into action as soon as they saw the accident. DeVine recounts what happened just minutes after the crash: "I was driving down the road, I see a car submerged in the water halfway nose down, back window open. Myself and three other men ran down the docks, one man jumped right in the water, I followed. It was really cold, I kind of froze up." Port Jefferson Fire Department requested mutual aid from
