Kings Park, NY - The Kings Park Fire Department received a call early on the morning of March 5th, around 2:03 A.M., for a reported brush fire in the vicinity of Saint Johnland Road and Mariners Way in Kings Park. Fire Chief 4-1-30 arrived to find a heavily involved structure fire on the Kings Park Sate Property.

MVA in Commack Sends One to Hospital Three Fires Within 12 Hours Considered Suspicious in Port Jefferson Station

Commack, NY - On Saturday, March 11th around 1:15 P.M., the Commack Fire Department and Commack Volunteer Ambulance were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident in front of 2 Vanderbilt Motor Parkway. The occupant of the vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital.

Port Jefferson, NY - On Thursday, March 9th, the Terryville Fire Dept. was busy with multiple structure fires. The first fire was reported at approximetly 1:30 P.M. at 99 Willis Avenue. Upon arrival of Terryville 1st Assistant Chief Thomas Young, smoke was seen coming from a vacant, two-story residence at the location. The structure was set back into a wooded area of the property. The fire was contained to a secondfloor room and quickly knocked down. At approximately 9:00 P.M. that evening, firefighters were called back to the same home at 99 Willis Avenue, where they encountered a heavier fire load in the structure upon arrival. Mutual Aid was requested from the Port Jefferson and Setauket Fire Departments for the second fire. While operating to contain the fire, at 9:36 P.M., the Terryville Fire
JUMP TO FILE #031317100 Dept. recieved multiple calls reporting explosions in the area of the former Lawrence Aviation Superfund Site. The "superfund" site is located at 100 Sheep Pasture Road in Port Jefferson. An engine from the Port Jefferson Fire Dept. was directed to respond and investigate the report of explosions. Upon arrival, it was confirmed that a two-story, vacant type warehouse building on the property was on fire. Flames could be seen shooting from the roof and sides of the warehouse, with heavy smoke throughout the building. Immediately, multiple neighboring fire departments and EMS agencies who were already at the Willis Avenue fire responded to 100 Sheep Pasture Road to assist. Under the command of Terryville Fire Dept., six additional fire
departments responded to the scene. Assistance was provided from the Port Jefferson, Setauket, Mount Sinai, Miller Place, Selden and Coram Fire Departments, as well as Port Jefferson EMS. Multiple hoselines and tower ladders were placed into operation. Due to the danger of collapse, all operations went to an exterior attack mode. The Suffolk County Police Arson Squad responded to the scene due to past fires at the Lawrence Aviation site over the years. The Long Island Railroad (LIRR) put a stop on all trains passing the entrance at Sheep Pasture Road for a time. All three fires were being considered "suspicious" by Suffolk County Police Arson Squad investigators. Two firefighters were transported by Terryville EMS to Stony Brook University Hospital as a result of rehab, not injuries. - ANDREW TETREAULT

Farmingville Handles Rush Hour Car Fire on L.I.E. Farmingville, NY - The Farmingville F.D. and SCPD Highway Patrol responded to a car fire on the westbound L.I.E., between Exits 62 and 63 at approximately 6:30 A.M. on March 21st. The engine compartment of a "Mazda6" was fully engulfed in flames, but Farmingville's bravest had the fire knocked down within minutes. Westbound traffic was backed-up for nearly two miles during the incident. No injuries were reported. Chief Dave Smith (5-18-30) was in charge of the scene.

Car Fire in Selden Quickly Knocked
Selden, NY - Just before 7:00 A.M. on March 16th, Selden firefighters responded in 20-degree weather to a reported car fire in front of 102 Bicycle Path in Selden. Firefighters arrived to find a fully involved engine fire with extension to the inside of the car through the dash. Firefighters used a oneand-three-quarter inch line and made quick work of the engine fire. The crews took up about 20 minutes later. There were no injuries reported.
Early Morning Store Fire in Ronkonkoma Ronkonkoma, NY - On March 16th, firefighters from Ronkonkoma and three other departments responded to a report of an automatic fire alarm at a 99-cent store located in a strip mall on Portion Rd. in Ronkonkoma. Responding units encountered a smoke condition with some visible flames in the cockloft. Firefighters quickly knocked down any remaining flames, containing the fire to the original store. No firefighters were injured and all units took up 45minutes after the Signal-4 was given.

One Injured in Mastic Beach Car Accident Mastic Beach, NY - Authorities from the Mastic Beach F.D., Mastic Beach Volunteer Ambulance and SCPD 7th Pct. were alerted at approximately 7:45 P.M. on March 17th for a twocar accident at the intersection of Mastic Road and President Road. Mastic Beach firefighters had to use Jaws-of-Life hydraulic tools to cut the victim from his car after the force of the impact pushed his vehicle off the road and into a parking lot, trapping him in the vehicle. The victim was transported by ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Central Islip MVA Injures Multiple People Central Islip, NY - Multiple people were injured Sunday morning, March 19th, after a two-car collision that occurred in Central Islip. Emergency personnel were called to 185 Motor Parkway in Central Islip for a motor vehicle accident just after 10:00 A.M. Units arrived to find a sedan that had slammed into a minivan, injuring multiple people. While firefighters secured both vehicles, EMS evaluated and prepared the occupants for transport to a nearby hospital.

Brookhaven, NY – On February 28th, members of the Brookhaven FD held a training night out at Station 1 where firefighters were drilled on vehicle extrication scenarios, including extricating a victim from an overturned auto using the Hurst tools. After the vehicle extrications were completed, the firefighters were given an extra scenario that involved a vehicle fire. Under the supervision of Department Chief Giuseppe Loiacono, an engine crew consisting of firefighters and probationary firefighters made a quick attack while being instructed on proper technique. Conducting drills like this not only helps to teach new members how to increase their skills, but it also helps to keep veterans' skills up-to-par as well.

Five-Car Collision with Four Injuries and One Engine Fire in Selden
Selden, NY - On the early afternoon of Saturday, March 4th, a five-car collision on Route 25 and County Rd. 82 sent four people to the hospital and ignited a small engine fire in one of the cars. Selden firefighters responded to the scene and quickly extinguished the fire. Coram and Centereach ambulances transported the four injured patients to local hospitals for treatment.
Mastic Beach, NY – Just before 7:20 A.M. on March 28th, the Mastic Beach Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at Elm Rd. West, near Moriches Drive. Chiefs Carlo Grover and Tom JUMP TO FILE# Montreuil were the 032817108 first units to come on the air and advised that they were responding. County provided additional details, reporting that the caller stated that their living room was on fire. On arrival of the Chiefs, a heavy fire load found and was coming through the roof, so they immediately transmitted the Working Fire assignment. Tanker 5-13-2 and Engine 5-13-3 arrived on scene a short time later and crews immediately stretched multiple lines. One line was stretched to the front door while a second line was used to attack the fire on the other side of the house. Mutual aid companies were called in from the Mastic, Brookhaven and Center Moriches Fire Departments. The occupant of the house was able to escape the home unharmed. EMS support was provided by the Mastic Beach, Mastic and Shirley Ambulance Companies. No injuries were sustained while battling the blaze. Firefighters Combat Frigid Temps to Extinguish Double Vehicle Fire Port Jefferson, NY - On Sunday, March 12th, the Port Jefferson Fire Department was called to the scene of a motor vehicle crash with fire on Main Street, between Franklin JUMP TO FILE # Street and Myrtle 031317101 Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered two vehicles in the northbound lane of Main Street on fire, with
one vehicle fully involved. Marine Co. Engine-5 was first-due and hooked up to a hydrant North of Infant Jesus Church to supply water to the hundreds of feet of hose-line. Due to the below-freezing temperature and amount of water being used, the Port Jefferson Village Department of Public Works was requested to respond with a Sander truck. All occupants of both vehicles escaped without injuries. - ANDREW TETREAULT

Wading River, NY - On Saturday, March 18th, the Brookhaven Fire Department held its annual installation dinner event at the Inn at East Wind in Wading River. The night began with the color guard and welcoming of the honored guests, which ranged from the Chiefs invited guests and family, members of the media, and local government leaders. Afterwards, the master of ceremonies, Commissioner Michael J. Verni, announced the commencement of the installation of the following Firematic Officers for 2017: Chief Giuseppe Loiacono, First Assistant Chief- Peter DiPinto Jr., Second Assistant Chief Daniel DiPinto, Captain Anthony Verni and Captain

In addition to the Firematic Officers, the department installed the chief and assistant drivers for 2017, as well as the incoming ladies auxiliary administration, including Ellen Komosinsk as President, Vanessa Verni as Vice President, Jamie Wahlfeld as Secretary and Rosemary Perrone as the 2017 Tresurer. Aside from installing officers, there were also several awards that were presented for outstanding achievements. Firefighters Matthew Palmer and Jesse Alaimo received
honors for their years of service while Firefighter Craig Connors was presented with the Rookie of the Year Award. Outgoing Chief Thomas Connors received a proclamation from Brookhaven Town Councilman Michael Loguercio Jr., which declared the day of March 18, 2017 as "Thomas Connors Day" in the Town of Brookhaven. Connors also received some other awards from the department based on his service, as well as a special trophy gift presented by Secretary Patrick Perry. Car Versus Tree with Heavy Entrapment in Ridge Ridge, NY - Just after 9:45 P.M. on Wednesday, March 8th, a young female driver lost control of her car, leaving the roadway and crossing two lanes of traffic before slamming into a tree off the William Floyd Parkway. When Ridge firefighters arrived, they found the vehicle wrapped around a tree, with the driver trapped inside. Firefighters and EMS units worked for 40-minutes using hydraulic tools to free the driver. Once she was freed from the vehicle, emergency personnel transported her to a local trauma center.

Medevac Launched for Injured Dirt Biker in Center Moriches Center Moriches, NY - A teenager riding a dirt bike lost control and crashed near the intersection of Bittersweet Lane and Barberry Lane just before 6:30 P.M. on March 13th. The Center Moriches F.D. and SCPD 7th Pct. responded to the scene. After assessing the teen's severe foot injuries, he was stabilized and then transported by FD ambulance to the Center Moriches High School athletic field, approximately twoand-a-half miles away, where he was then transported to Stony Brook Hospital via SCPD helicopter MEDEVAC.

Surfer in Distress Brings Multiple Agencies Out Huntington Community First Aid Squad.

Mastic Beach, NY – On March 19th at approximately 5:30 P.M., the Mastic Beach Fire Department was activated for a water rescue in the area of the New Inlet. Per water rescue protocols, mutual aid was activated for the Mastic and Bellport Fire Departments. The South Country and Mastic Beach Ambulance Companies were also requested to provide assistance, as well as the Suffolk Police unit "Marine Mike" and aviation.
JUMP TO FILE #031917107 On arrival, Chiefs Grover and Montreuil were updated by dispatch that Park Rangers were reporting that a male who was surfing appeared to possibly be in distress and drifting in the rough waters. Police and Fire Boats were dispatched to the location. Police were able to make con-
tact with the surfer, brought him onto their boat (Marine Mike) and took him back to the Smith Point Marina. The subject did not appear to be injured and refused medical attention from EMTs at the marina. He was then released to the Park Rangers, who assisted him back his vehicle. Yaphank, NY - A collision at the intersection of Horseblock Road and Bellport Avenue involving two Nissan Altimas sent two people to the hospital. Just after 11:00 A.M. on March 11th, firefighters from the Medford F.D. responded to the scene and used the Jaws-of-Life to cut the victims from their cars. Medford Volunteer Ambulance also responded to the scene. Both injured patients were transported to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Firefighters Battle House Fire in Melville

Bayville Fire Department is located in Nassau County, New York.
Melville, NY - Just after 6:00 P.M. on Friday, March 10th, the Melville Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire at 20 Catherwood Crescent. Firefighters arrived and were encountered with heavy fire in a two-story structure. The alarm was upgraded to a working fire, bringing in Mutual Aid from the Huntington Manor, Dix Hills and East Farmingdale Fire Departments. The homeowner and a firefighter were evaluated and transported by EMS to nearby hospitals. The fire was brought under control about one hour later and the cause is under investigation.

alarm to be reactivated as a working fire, bringing in mutual aid from numerous departments, including Commack, Smithtown, East Northport and Nissequogue. Due to the lack of working hydrants in the area, firefighters utilized 3000-feet of hose to connect to a hydrant for a water supply. In frigid temperatures, firefighters battled the fire into the rest of the night. There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
