Deerfield, NH - A gift store in Deerfield was destroyed by fire on Friday, January 29th. Firefighters were dispatched to the “Countryberries” gift store on North Road around 7:17 A.M. and a second-alarm was transmitted, bringing in mutual aid tankers, as the building was found to be well involved on arrival. - See full story on page 15

Fire Damages Home in Newington Newington, CT - Fire did heavy damage, mostly to the rear of a home at 29 Eagle Drive, around 7:30 P.M. on January 16th. Firefighters had heavy fire showing from the back of the house but quickly knocked it down, preventing it from spreading to the rest of the home. There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation.

Wood Shop Burns in Lisbon Lisbon, CT - At 11:27 A.M. on Friday, January 29th, the Lisbon Fire Department with Jewett City Ladder 156, Engine 256, Griswold ET-355, Baltic Tanker 124, Voluntown Tanker 353, Taftville Engine 22 and the Yantic FAST were dispatched to a garage fire at 10 Ross Hill Road. While responding, Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communications advised Assistant Chief Cingranelli that they were receiving numerous calls reporting flames through the roof, so Norwich Engine 2 with tankers from Plainfield, Preston and Bozrah were added.

ET-254 arrived at 11:33 A.M., reporting a 50’x60’ wood shop about 50-percent involved. ET254’s crew set up a blitz fire in the front of the building. Tanker 154 arrived next and nursed their engine. Engine 256 backed down the driveway and reverse laid out to a pond, where Voluntown’s Tanker made a hole in the ice and established the draft. The rest of Engine 256’s crew stretched a two-and-ahalf inch hose line to the
'Alpha'/'Bravo' corner. Engine 2’s crew helped Lisbon firefighters extend a one-and-three-quarter inch hose line around to the rear while Engine 22’s crew stretched a fourth line. Crews battled the fire during strong winds while it was 17-degrees and quickly became covered with ice. Command placed the incident under control at 12:49 P.M. and released everyone other than Lisbon and Jewett City. There were no injuries and the Lisbon Fire Marshal is investigating. - RYAN FLAHERTY

Three Cars Collide in Norwich Norwich, CT - Around 2:45 P.M. on Thursday, January 14th, Norwich Engine 3, Squad A, Truck 1 and the Battalion responded to the area of 90 Washington Street for a three-car accident. Battalion 1 arrived to find two vehicles with heavy front end damage, and the third car on its passenger's side. All of the victims had self-extricated and luckily no one was hurt. Crews secured the vehicles and applied speedy dry before clearing the scene. CHUCK LOWE

Fire Damages Three-Story Home in New Britain New Britain, CT - Several residents were displaced after fire damaged a three-story residence at 220 Clinton Street on January 30th. The two-alarm fire caused heavy damage to mostly the rear of the building. Just as the second-alarm was called in, a second structure fire was being reported. The second-alarm companies were diverted to that call. The cause of this fire is under investigation.

Second Fire of the Day in New Britain New Britain, CT - A fire at 151 Washington Street required mutual aid from several towns because of a fire being fought at another location in town on January 30th. Several more residents were displaced, bringing the total to around 30 from both fires. New Britain firefighters, along with the mutual companies, fought this fire in a three-story wood-frame for several hours. The cause of this fire is under investigation. Because of the simultaneous fires mutual aid was called in to both fire scenes and for station coverage. Mutual was provided by Hartford, West Hartford, UConn, Farmington, Bristol, Southington, Meriden, and Middletown.
Second-Alarm House Fire in Greeneville Greeneville, CT - At 10:16 A.M. on January 31st, the Norwich Fire Department was dispatched to 80 North Street for a dryer fire. While responding, dispatch updated the companies that the homeowner called back stating that the whole room was on fire. At 10:21 A.M., the battalion saw the header and staged the second-alarm companies on Boswell Avenue. Engine 2 arrived at 10:22 A.M. with heavy smoke showing from the rear of a two-and-a-half story wood-frame residence. Engine 2 took a one-and-three-quarter inch hose line around to the rear of the house where fire was coming out of four windows and a doorway extending up into the second floor, as well as threatening a garage and Jeep. The crew washed down the exterior as the fire rolled into the soffit. They then proceeded into the first floor, where they encountered the kitchen that was well involved. Squad A stretched a one-and-threequarter inch hose from Engine 2 into the first floor from the front

porch and began suppressing fire. Engine 3 laid in from a hydrant on North Street, which supplied Engine 2. Engine 3’s crew then forced the front door and stretched a line to the second floor where they found extension running the walls into the attic. Truck 1 set up on the 'Alpha'/'Bravo' corner and flew their aerial to the roof, where they performed vertical ventilation. Taftville’s Engine 21 opened up the gable vent on the 'Bravo' side which had fire coming from it and then operated a line on the exterior. Yantic’s Engine 33 and East Great Plain Ladder 5 assisted with overhaul on the first and second floor. Rescue 5 provided the cascade and filled cylinders on scene. The Mohegan Tribal Fire Department provided the FAST. The Norwich Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating. - RYAN FLAHERTY

Mississippi: Joseph "Joe" Gallo, 34 Rank: Captain Incident Date: November 17, 2020 Death Date: November 17, 2020 Fire Department: Blissfield Township Fire Department Initial Summary: While responding with the Blissfield Fire Department to a barn fire, Captain Joseph Gallo was driving a Chevy Impala with emergency lights activated. As he drove on a gravel portion of the road, he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle rolled and Captain Gallo was ejected. He was transported to the Toledo Hospital where, after all attempts at resuscitation were exhausted, Captain Gallo was pronounced deceased from injuries sustained. He was a Paid-on-Call Captain with the Blissfield Township Fire Department and a Part-time Firefighter/EMT with the Madison Township Fire Department.

Mississippi: Michael Buitendorp, 40 Rank: Firefighter Incident Date: November 18, 2020 Death Date: November 18, 2020 Fire Department: Grant Township Fire Department Initial Summary: On Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at approximately 2100hrs., Firefighter Michael Buitendorp, driving a fire department tender, was responding to the scene of a camper fire in Otto Township when he lost consciousness. The firefighter who was with him was able to stop the fire apparatus and call for help. Grant Township firefighters and EMS personnel immediately performed life-saving measures. Firefighter Buitendorp was then transported to the Mercy Health Lakeshore Hospital where attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. The cause of his death is under investigation.
Washington: Alan Dean Basso, 59 Rank: Firefighter/EMT Incident Date: November 27, 2020 Death Date: November 27, 2020 Fire Department: Cowlitz County Fire District 5 Initial Summary: On the morning of Friday, November 27, 2020, Firefighter/EMT Alan Basso responded to two medical emergency calls, the last one dispatched at 0848hrs. Later that day, at 1355hrs, Basso was driving in the downtown area of Kalama when his vehicle collided with several parked vehicles. He was unconscious and not breathing, suffering a cardiac arrest. Citizen CPR was immediately initiated by a nearby off-duty Portland firefighter, 911 was summonsed, and Cowlitz County Fire District 5 resources arrived on-scene. Immediate advance life support measures were administered, and Basso was then transported to PeaceHealth St. Johns Medical Center where, despite all efforts, he was pronounced deceased.
Missouri: Robert "Bobby" Joseph Rocha, 59 Rank: Captain Incident Date: October 23, 2020 Death Date: November 21, 2020 Fire Department: Kansas City, MO Fire Department Initial Summary: While on-duty, Captain Robert “Bobby” Rocha contracted COVID-19 from a patient
Indiana: Robert Cree, 72 Rank: Firefighter/EMT Incident Date: November 22, 2020 Death Date: November 22, 2020 Fire Department: Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department Initial Summary: At 1900hrs on Sunday, November 22, 2020, Firefighter/EMT Robert Cree responded to a medical emergency at a residence. Upon returning home, at approximately 2010hrs, Firefighter/EMT Cree collapsed from an apparent heart attack. Crews arrived at his home and immediately performed CPR. Despite all efforts, he could not be resuscitated and passed away.

Fatal Three-Alarm Apartment Fire in New Britain New Britain, CT - One person died and two others were treated for smoke inhalation at a fire on the 6th floor of a large, six-story apartment building on February 3rd. Flames were rolling out of a top floor window when firefighters arrived at 85 Spring Street around 2:00 A.M. Once firefighters were able to hook up to a standpipe and get water flowing on the fire it was quickly put out. Around 83 residents needed to evacuate the building, some with the help of
Pancakes are a firehouse breakfast staple. Often cooked on a cast iron pan or griddle that outdates even the most senior members, these flapjacks feed many for cheap. Which is probably why they are so popular for fundraising as well. In firehouses all across the country, “pancake breakfasts” help raise funds for departments in need. They also appeal to us on a more personal note as well. Sunday morning with the family, cup of joe and a stack of pancakes evoke memories of a simpler time.
Or maybe it was the trip to the local IHOP you remember most. The point is, food has a way of engraining itself into our memories and more often than not it is the food we grew up eating. My dad loves a good pancake and now more than ever, enjoys cooking them for my daughter. And believe it or not, this food has been around a lot longer than you and I. Some evidence dates it back to the Stone Age! And in more “recent” times, Thomas Jefferson was a huge fan of the flapjack, even sending a recipe back to his hometown from the White House. So now that we have established the fact that pancakes are not only delicious and hold a sentimental place in our hearts, lets also admit now that they are definitely not the healthiest of foods for us to eat on a regular basis. But
how on earth can we make this somewhat healthy AND delicious at the same time? Well first let’s start with the actual pancake itself. Instead of using your standard All-Purpose flour, this recipe uses almond flour, which is great for the glutenfree and gluten-intolerant folks out there. We also use bananas, not just for flavor, but to add moisture and sweetness as well since almond flour tends to be a little “drier” than conventional flours. And whenever we need to make something taste better, what do we add? BACON!!! If you haven’t tried pancakes topped with real maple syrup and bacon, you are seriously missing out! There is no better combination of flavors than sweet and savory. Stay safe, eat well!

4 Ripe Bananas 4 Eggs 1 Cup Almond Flour 1 tsp Baking Powder ¼ Cup Maple Syrup Pinch of Salt 4 Slices of Cooked Bacon, crumbled Cooking Spray or Butter for pan Procedure: -Separate the egg yolk from the whites by carefully cracking them in to a large bowl. Using your hands gently scoop out the yolks and place in a medium bowl. -Using a whisk, whip the egg whites until fluffy, set aside. -Combine the maple syrup and bananas in the same bowl as the egg yolk. Mash bananas and stir to incorporate. Add the almond flour, baking powder and salt to the bowl. Stir to combine thoroughly.

-Carefully fold in the egg whites to the batter with a rubber spatula.

through. -Ladle the batter into a greased preheated non-stick pan, cast iron or griddle over medium heat. Sprinkle each pancake with some crumbled bacon, reserving some for garnish. Cook pancakes untouched until the bottom starts to brown and you see bubbles forming, about 2-3 minutes. Very carefully flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes or until fully cooked
-Garnish with more crumbled bacon! (Note: These pancakes are very tender and delicate compared to traditional so they may need a little extra cooking time and gentle handling!)

House with Hoarding Conditions Destroyed by Fire in Wallingford Wallingford, CT - At 4:30 P.M. on Saturday, January 30th, the WFD was dispatched to a house fire, with multiple calls coming through from residents in the area. On arrival there was fire and heavy smoke showing from the rear of the house. Eventually three hand lines would be used to ex- JUMP TO FILE# tinguish the fire, as 020121102 firefighters encountered some hoarding conditions, making it very difficult to access. The truck company opened the roof for ventilation while a coordinated interior/exterior extinguishment took place. This fire was just on the edge of a non-hydrated district, so tankers were used until approximately 1000-plus-feet of large diameter hose could be stretched. All career companies, along with the volunteer companies worked this fire. Meriden FD was called to assist with mutual aid for a rapid intervention team. There was a report of one person with smoke inhalation who was treated and transported to the hospital. The home sustained heavy damage from fire and water, and the fire is under investigation by the Wallingford Fire Marshal at this time. - BRIAN OWEN Heavy fire in rear of home.

New Britain, CT - Two residents were displaced after their home was damaged by fire on the evening of January 15th. The fire, at 422 Osgood Avenue, was brought under control within 20 minutes. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.

The Laurel Hill Fire Co. of Norwich operates this 1982 Ford C/Middlesex 1250-GPM as Hose Tender 6. This apparatus does not carry water, but it does come equipped with plenty of large diameter hose.
Residents Trapped in Vernon Apartment Building Fire Vernon, CT - On December 20, 2020, around 10:40 A.M., the Vernon Fire Department and Vernon PD were dispatched for a fire alarm activation at the Fitch Block, a 24 unit apartment building on Union St., across from Rockville General Hospital. As units were responding, multiple 911 calls rang in to the dispatch centers with reports of active fire in the building and residents trapped. Tower 541, with a crew of five, arrived on the scene to find fire and smoke extending from the second floor up to the third, with exposure problems. Several residents were trapped and hanging out of their windows, needing rescue. Immediate life-saving measures were taken to rescue three trapped residents via ground ladders. Several injured residents were able to be brought across the street to receive care at Rockville General Hospital. Car 141 (Assistant Chief Babcock), the incident commander, brought several more ambulances, paramedics, and numerous mutual aid companies that surround Vernon into the scene to help fight the large fire in the 1800's historic building. An aggressive attack of the fire commenced and the fire was brought under control in a little more than one hour. Crews worked for several more hours checking for fire extension. Several of the injured residents were subsequently transferred to Bridgeport Hospital Burn Center for further care. One of the trapped

residents, Ashley Madore, who made a full recovery, visited the station recently to personally thank her rescuers for saving her life. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Vernon Fire Marshal's Office and the Vernon PD. - ROBERT BABCOCK

Meredith Firefighters Battle Fire at Marina Meredith, NH - A fire destroyed a building and several boats at the Meredith Marina on Bay Shore Road, January 28th. The fire was reported at 1644 hours and a second-alarm was transmitted for the fully involved building, located on the western shore of Meredith Bay. The steel building was used to service boats, which was unoccupied at the time of the fire. It was declared a total loss according to Meredith Fire Chief Ken Jones. Because the building had not yet collapsed on its own, Chief Jones requested that an excavator be brought in to knock it down. Although wind and frigid temperatures were factors as firefighters began an external attack, Jones said they were able to draw water from two hydrants near the marina. The fire is under investigation by the NH State Fire Marshal's Office.
Dryer Fire Damages Hudson Home Hudson, NH - Hudson Firefighters were dispatched to the corner of Central Street at Maple Avenue for a building fire on January 17th. Upon arrival, companies had smoke showing from floor 2 of the two-and-a-half story wood-frame. Crews found a dryer fire on floor 2 with a heavy smoke condition throughout. The fire was knocked down in a short amount of time and crews remained on scene ventilating.

Popular Gift Store in Deerfield Destroyed by Fire Deerfield, NH - A gift store in Deerfield was destroyed by fire on Friday, January 29th. Firefighters were dispatched to the "Countryberries" gift store on North Road around 7:17 A.M. and JUMP TO FILE# a second-alarm was 013121104 transmitted, bringing in mutual aid tankers, as the building was found to be well involved on arrival. A tanker shuttle had to be set up to supply water into the scene as firefighters battled frigid temperatures of 4-degrees, with the wind chill below zero. The store owners live at a home adjacent to the store and were evaluated at the scene and not injured. The gift store was a total loss and the cause of the fire is under investigation. - JAY HEATH

The small Town of Hampton Falls is located along Routes 1 & 95 between Seabrook and Hampton. This is a mostly residential community known for numerous antique shops and the state's oldest and largest apple orchard, Applecrest Farm. It is also the home of John Sununu; Former New Hampshire Governor and Chief of Staff under President George H. W. Bush. Fire & Rescue services are provided by volunteers operating out of a three-bay facility that is shared with the Police Department. The department operates with two engines, two tankers, one ambulance and a few support vehicles. In recent years a skeleton crew was added during the day to enable the first unit to get out the door faster.

Working Fire on Adam Drive in Hudson Hudson, NH - Hudson Firefighters were dispatched to Adam Drive on January 18th for a building fire. Upon arrival, companies had fire showing from the 'Alpha'/'Delta' corner of the single-family house. Command requested a Working Fire dispatch, bringing in mutual aid to the fire and to cover. The fire was knocked down in a short amount of time and crews remained on scene ventilating and overhauling.

Salem Homeowner Reports Chimney Fire Salem, NH - Late on Sunday afternoon, January 10th, Salem Fire received a 911 call from a homeowner on Chatham Circle reporting a chimney fire and smoke coming into the home. Group 1 responded, under the command of Battalion Chief Lemire, and reported an active chimney fire. Companies began checking for any extension into the home. Upon further investigation they found no extension. Companies were able to clear the scene after an hour.

Barn Fire in Hadley Keeps Jakes Busy for Hours Hadley, MA - Hampshire County crews were summoned to a farm at 92 Shattuck Road in the northern portion of Hadley on Monday night, January 18th, for a report of a fully involved barn. Arriving on JUMP TO FILE# 011921105 scene less than 10 minutes after the 9:18 P.M. call, Hadley crews were presented with a fully involved single-story former tobacco barn that was in close proximity to another tobacco barn and a twostory farmhouse. While the original fire building was already collapsing as the first lines were stretched, the radiant heat from the fire was threatening the farmhouse and exposure protection was the most immediate concern of Hadley Chief Officers. While this was a nighttime fire and more than a dozen Hadley volunteers turned out for the alarm, mutual aid was still requested to bring in additional manpower, as the fire building was over 50-feet long and would require extensive manpower to tear apart and extinguish the remaining fire. Engines from Sunderland and Amherst were sent to the scene and the City of Northampton slid into the breach with an engine company to cover any other calls in Hadley. Crews spent several hours on scene, using multiple hand lines, portable deluge monitors and HFD Engine 1’s 75-foot aerial to douse the fire from all four sides. While the original barn was destroyed, the only damage suffered by exposure buildings was melted siding on the farmhouse. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the HFD and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Whitman Fire Tasked with COVID Testing and Vaccinations

Neighbor Reports House Fire in Kingston Kingston, MA - On January 23rd, firefighters responded to a residence for a report of fire on the outside wall of his neighbor's house at 6 Wright Ct. First arriving companies had heavy fire on the 'B' and 'C' sides of the building. Firefighters made an aggressive attack and quickly struck a secondalarm. Mutual aid from Duxbury, Pembroke, Plympton, and Halifax responded. The DFS rehab unit responded due to freezing temperatures. The State Fire Marshal's Office was called. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Whitman, MA Firefighter/Paramedics in Whitman have recently taken on the task of performing COVID19 testing and also COVID-19 vaccination of area first responders. Members of the JUMP TO FILE# team, referred to as 011821106 "Shot Team", agreed to be a part of the testing and vaccinations program that is being hosted by the Town of Whitman at the Central Fire Station at 56 Temple Street. Starting in late December, Whitman Fire started a program in which drive-up testing would be available for Town of Whitman employees who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, or who had a known exposure to someone who has COVID-19. Both rapid, and PCR testing is available. This is in an effort to keep town employees safe, and keep the virus from spreading, especially during this time of very high COVID numbers being reported all throughout Massachusetts. As has been well reported, an outbreak in any department could be catastrophic, with numerous people out sick or due to the CDC quarantine requirements. Thus far, the program has been successful, catching positive cases, and keeping the employees out of work, thus keeping their co-workers and families safe. Starting on January 23rd, Whitman Fire opened its doors to firefighters for their first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. The clinic is held at the Fire Station and is staffed by Shot Team paramedics

House Fire in Haverhill Sends One Person to Hospital ANDREW CONDOS

Haverhill, MA - One person and three firefighters were injured in a two-alarm house fire on the very cold and windy Saturday afternoon of January 23rd. Haverhill Fire Department got a call reporting that the rear of a house was on fire. The first due company on scene reported heavy smoke and fire in the rear of a three-story, wood-frame home, and due to a high wind and cold weather, requested a second-alarm right away, bringing in mutual aid to the scene and to cover empty stations. One female was transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation. The three firefighter injuries were due to ice and were treated at the scene. During the incident, firefighters had water supply issues. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. American Red Cross assisted with the people displaced by the fire.

Two Occupants Rescued from Working Fire in Middleborough Middleborough, MA - Firefighters responded to Montello Street on January 13th for a structure fire. Two occupants were rescued from the house and transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Boston Jakes Douse a Third-Alarm Boston, MA - Around 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, January 30th, Boston Fire Alarm started receiving calls for 110 Fuller Street. Upon arrival companies had heavy fire showing from the rear porches, with extensive heat damage to the next door structure. The fire was called to a third-alarm within minutes due to frozen hydrants and fear of further extension into the next door structure.

Tewksbury Fire Captain Joseph Kearns was promoted to Chief of Department on January 5th. He began as a call firefighter in the late 80's and has progressed up during his 30+ year career. Kearns served as the President of IAFF Local 1647 for the past 14 years and will now sit on the other side of the table to make sure the brothers and sisters are treated fairly. Chief Kearns is the son of a very proud, Lt. Edward Kearns, who retired from Tewksbury FD in 2002, after 32 years of dedicated service.

Barn at Hillside School Farm Destroyed by Fire Marlborough, MA - As most communities were digging out from a Nor'easter that just dumped over a foot of snow, Marlborough firefighters spent the day of February 2nd extinguishing a barn fire. Companies arrived just after 9:00 A.M. to find a large, two-story, wood-frame building fully involved, with significant extension to the attached classroom section. These conditions and word that the property was unoccupied resulted in defensive tactics. Shortly after water was placed on the fire the structure began to collapse. The Hillside School is a multiple building campus for boys in grades 4-9. There were no classes in session at the time because of weather. All five pigs that were inside the building escaped without injury. The state Fire Marshal's Office was requested to investigate.

Is There Meaning to the Madness? Chaplain’s Corner Pastor Fernando Villicana
Well, we find ourselves well into a new year - 2021. Looking back at 2020 we can only hope that this year will be far less challenging and that things will return to what we have always called “normal.” We have faced civil unrest, economic challenges, political confusion and continue coping with a global pandemic. How do we grow through what we go through? The answer - a healthy perspective, focus and faith. Is there meaning to the madness? I would say YES. Philippians 1:12 (GN) I want you to know, my friends, that the things that have happened to me have really helped the progress of the gospel. v18 It does not matter! I am happy about it whether from wrong or right motives. and I will continue to be happy. The background of the story today is that Paul for the last four years has been miserable in circumstances. He just spent two years in prison in for a trumped up charge. Then - on a ship to go to Rome to appear before Nero (notorious for his cruelty to Christians) he's shipwrecked, stranded on an island, bitten by a poisonous snake, continues on to Rome, spends another two years in prison awaiting trial to be executed. During this two year period in Rome he is chained to a guard for 24 hours a day. At this point, most people in our society would wonder if life was worth living. Yet in spite of all of these situations, Paul says in "And I will continue to be happy” (Philippians 1:18). What’s Paul's secret? How does he stay positive
in prison, triumphant over troubles and delight in difficulties? How does Paul stay so happy, positive, joyful in spite of the fact that things went wrong in his life? Paul gives us on major reason for joyful living in spite of adverse circumstances The number one reason - a healthy perspective. The truth is, every one of us has been adversity affected by the recent crisis. But the way you look at that problem is much more important than the problem itself. Your perspective makes the all the difference in the world. v12 “I want you to know, my friends, that the things that have happened to me (negatively) have really helped the progress of the gospel.” In other words: I can see the best even in the worst. I can see God at work in the problems and when things don't go my way. If you don't choose your priorities, you'll go around putting out one fire after another, living your life simply from problem to problem and not choosing what's most important. Listen to what Paul said: “It doesn’t matter! I am happy about it, and I will continue to be happy. Was Paul insane? Delirious? No! Paul said he had to set his priorities, his values, not let problems steal his joy. Have a perspective to live from and a priority to live by. Know what is important, and like my wife often tells me - “don’t sweat the small stuff.” Here is the best priority anyone could ever live by: Proverbs 3:6 (LB)"In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success." Is there meaning to the madness? Yes, as long as you put God first (a priority to live by).

Two-Car MVA with Entrapment in Fall River Fall River, MA - Shortly after 1:00 P.M. on January 21st, Fire and EMS units were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at Brayton Avenue and Grace Street. Units arrived to an SUV that came to rest against a utility pole and the other vehicle facing west in the eastbound lane. Firefighters from Heavy Rescue 1 and Engine 4 used hydraulic and battery operated rescue tools to free a female victim from her car. After being treated and packaged for transport, the victim was transported to a local trauma center.

Providence Knocks Down Shed Fire

Providence, RI - Shorty after 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 7th, Providence firefighters were dispatched to a shed fire on Vinton Street. Crews arrived and found a fully involved shed fire in close proximity to another structure. The fire was quickly extinguished and it was deemed that there was no extension to the adjacent structure.

Engine 3 in Marlborough once operated a 1988 Ford C 2-Door apparatus, retrofitted with "phone booth" style jump seats, by Emergency One. It carried 750-gallons of water and was equipped with a 1250-GPM pump. The current Engine 3 is a custom built 2018 Pierce Impel with spacious jump seats. Like the predecessor it carries 750-gallons of water, but the pump is now electronic and rated to flow 1500-GPM. It hold 30-gallons of class A foam and 50-gallons of class B.
