Client Testimonials I reached out to you during the most stressful time of life for both my loved ones and myself - horror had occurred to my dear loving mother. My mom had fractured her hip and due to her frail health and advanced age required risky hip replacement surgery. Many issues legal and otherwise arose which I could not personally resolve. You not only resolved each and every one, but you continue to do so now, over 4 years later. You always display extreme sincerity, compassion and friendship, using your vast experience and confidence in your ability, to continually bring satisfaction, positive results and a tremendous sense of relief and comfort to my loved ones and myself. You have gone out of your way to visit Mom on multiple occasions in her Nursing house and we love you for it. As an attorney, friend, and a great man, I could not possibly hope to know anyone more phenomenal. The three greatest men I have ever known are my dear departed father, my dear departed father-in-law and Ely Rosenzveig. – Jeff D.

I hired Ely to assist with my parents estate planning and it was a wise decision. He is a true expert in navigating through complex elder care law and procedures. His guidance was invaluable and his communication excellent. I would strongly recommend his services.

Wartburg Kicks off 150th Anniversary with the return of the Fall Festival PAGE 4
November, 2015
Wartburg kicked off its 150th anniversary with an event-filled Fall Festival on Saturday, October 3 from 11 AM to 5 PM on their beautiful 34-acre campus in Mt. Vernon. It featured musical recitals from a German dance troup, the Bavarian Dancers, the Joy Dance Team and Cynthia Nixon & the Soul Latin Line Dancers. There was an abundance of children’s activities such as games, an obstacle course, bounce house and face painting. Attendees could participate in a drum circle, see what local vendors were offering, and enjoy a Farmers Market, grilled food or Caribbean cuisine by one of the local restaurants serving food that day– all for the enjoyment of Wartburg residents, their families and the people of Mt. Vernon and surrounding Westchester communities. Nearly 500 people attended. “This festival was held to honor our past, celebrate the present and build for the future. Our history was highlighted throughout our campus, we celebrated the present with the dedication of the Dale and Yvonne Gatz Conference Center and we are building for the future with our expansion of home care services in the New York Metro area and our Outpatient Center scheduled to open in late Fall this year,” said David Gentner, president and CEO of Wartburg. “It was a success beyond our expectations and we are extremely pleased with the positive feedback we received from those attending the festival.” Those who joined in the Fall Festival fun could try their luck with raffle drawings for fabulous prizes donated by businesses throughout the county. And any child who participated in any one of the fun games

provided had the chance to win sports equipment or one of four brand new bicycles, generously donated by Wartburg’s President and CEO, David Gentner. In honoring Wartburg’s 150 year history, guests could view an interactive timeline displayed on a large screen highlighting events from 1866 to present day. There were also iPads throughout campus playing Wartburg’s documentary segment featuring their awardwinning, internationally recognized Council for Creative Aging & Lifelong Learning in PBS’s Visionaries series, airing now. The day also included the dedication of the newly-named Dale and Yvonne Gatz Conference Center, named after Wartburg’s 8th president and his wife, an active volunteer during their tenure. Afterwards, attendees could browse and purchase local art in the Got Art? Inc. Exhibit located in the conference center. In 1866, Wartburg began as the Wartburg Orphan Farm School and provided a safe haven for children until the late 1970’s. To honor these alumni, the festival included a special chapel service and reception for former Wartburg Orphan Farm School residents who embraced, reminisced and scanned old photos from times past…and some even found their younger versions among the array of pictures. “The festival was for me a joy - for the first time being able to meet and talk to alumni. I truly appreciate the Wartburg in its continuing willingness to support the memories of those of us who spent time there.” said Edward von Koenigseck, an alumnus of The Wartburg Orphans’ Farm School, who attended Wartburg’s Homecoming Reception welcoming all alumni home at the Fall Festival.
“Wartburg is proud to bring together the local communities to celebrate Wartburg’s history and mission on our beautiful campus. We are especially excited to welcome back our alumni with a reunion for those who once lived here as children and called Wartburg home.” said Angela Ciminello, director of development and marketing at Wartburg. And there is even more planned for our next Fall Festival in our anniversary year in 2016!

Thanksgiving is not just a placeholder between Halloween and Christmas: It is a time to express gratitude for everything that you have. Take a look around. You have so much to be thankful for. You have a great life, a wonderful family and close friends. It might seem hard to believe, Thanksgiving Day is almost here. Thanksgiving is a U.S. holiday, but giving thanks is universal. Be grateful for everything you have. Thanksgiving traces its origins to ancient harvest festivals. It became an official U.S. holiday in 1863 under President Abraham Lincoln. In 1941, President Franklin Roosevelt signed a law fixing Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday in November. Since then, we have been giving thanks on Thanksgiving. The staff at Boomers & Beyond would like to take this opportunity to wish our readers a Happy Thanksgiving! We have so much to be thankful for, including the support of our readers. For that, we are certainly grateful. Happy Thanksgiving! Get in touch at info@healthcarenewspaper.com.

Westchester County Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s® raises over $345,774 and counting PAGE 8
More than 1,300 residents of Westchester County and vicinity joined the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s® and united in a movement to reclaim the future for millions on Sunday, October 4th at White Plains High School. Participants raised more than $345,774 to fund Alzheimer's care, support, advocacy and research programs. Donations for the event will continue to be accepted through the end of November so the Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter expects that already record-breaking total to rise even further. Per Walk Director Terry Kean, “This year’s walkers and sponsors helped us shatter our previous fundraising totals. They made the day a success in every way.” The team from Byram Hills High School raised the largest amount of funds with a total of $32,500 followed by Team GRF New York with $19,420 and Team SQAD at $18,938.
November, 2015
Top individual fundraisers include Stuart Alperin, Todd Kamelhar and Cindy Shmerler. Congresswoman Nita Lowey, who has introduced legislation that would provide Social Security Earnings Credit for Caregivers spoke movingly at the opening ceremony. Also lending their voices and support were New York Assemblyman David Buchwald and White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach. Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Board Chairman, Neil Klar engaged the crowd in the creation of a Promise Garden filled with flowers representing the various ways in which participants have been affected by and/or are working to combat Alzheimer’s. D.J. Gatsby rocked the crowd with his music, while the cheerleading squad from Byram Hills High shouted praise for participants at the Walk’s finish line. Walk to End Alzheimer’s participants did more than take a stroll on Sunday. They learned about Alzheimer’s disease and how to
get involved with this critical cause, from advocacy opportunities, clinical studies and support programs and services. The event also included an emotional tribute to those who have experienced or are experiencing Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and the nation’s sixth-
leading cause of death. As baby boomers age, the number of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease will rapidly escalate, increasing well beyond today’s more than 5 million Americans to as many as 16 million by 2050. For more information or to make a donation, visit alz.org/walk.

Mind your heart: Calories and fat still count during the holidays. Overeating can lead to everything from heartburn to a heart attack. Limit gravies, butter and other high-fat choices with plenty of vegetables and lean white meat. If you experience chest pain, don't delay seeing a doctor.
Drink in moderation: Besides a nasty hangover and obvious safety hazards, over-imbibing can have many negative effects - some social and some physical - including depression, an inammation of the pancreas, hepatitis and an irregular heartbeat. Limit your intake to no more than one alcoholic drink per day for women and no more than two drinks per day for men. And never drink and drive. Plan ahead: Be sure to have an up-to-date list of medications you are taking. If you do face a health emergency during the holidays, it's important for your doctor to know your current medical conditions and have a list of your medications.
Keep your health in focus: If you feel under the weather - physically or mentally - during the holidays, don't wait to visit your doctor. Colds, u and depression are much more common during this season.

Travel tips during Thanksgiving and the Holiday Season
PAGE 10
November, 2015
Boomers & Beyond - Westchester
Traveling during the holidays can be stressful and dangerous for everyone for many reasons. Bad weather, reckless drivers trying to get to their family gatherings as quickly as possible, drunk drivers, delayed flights, and the list goes on. Senior citizens may have a more difficult time than other drivers due to the effects of age on their driving skills and energy levels. Here are some tips for senior citizen travelers during this extra stressful time: Plan ahead: If you are driving, it makes sense to plan your route and the times you will be traveling ahead of time. Pick the most efficient route for you. Plan your route so that you are traveling through the highest traffic areas in the late morning, afternoon, or late evening to avoid the morning and evening rushes.
Plan ahead when flying to save money: Purchase your tickets ahead of time for lower prices and travel on lighter traveling days. You can sign up for many online services that will let you know ahead of time about travel deals during the holidays. The day before Thanksgiving and the following Sunday are the busiest travel days, so avoid traveling by air on those days. Flying on Black Friday will avoid the crowds because most people will be shopping.
Take advantage of mobile apps: iPhone users can take advantage of useful applications. Smart phones can track airport information. Keep track of gate changes, flight delays, take-off times, eating and bathroom locations. Some airlines have apps for check-in, tracking flight status, and even seat confirmation. Whether driving or flying, smart phones have great GPS apps that will get you where you’re going without having to look at a map.
Be sure to fill up: Driving in bad weather is taxing enough without worrying about running out of gas. Be sure to fill your tank when it hits the halfway point so that you don’t risk running out.
Always have a backup: If you don’t have a smart phone or prefer not to use one, take your map and use highlighters. Highlighting your route will make it easy to see where you are going. Add and highlight exit numbers and rest stops as well. The easier it is to see, the less stressful your tip will be.
Concept:CARE ® provides specialized care that stands out from the rest Boomers & Beyond - Westchester
When Concept:CARE® president Carol Greenberg talks to clients, they often use the word unique to describe the respected home healthcare operation.
“Everybody loves what we do and we really do provide unique services,” Greenberg said. “We don’t just go the extra mile. We go the extra three miles.”
That is obvious in everything Concept:CARE®, located in White Plains, does. Greenberg’s caring staff passionately treats its patients while working with their family to decide the best course of treatment. Concept:CARE®’s caregivers are some of the most highly regarded in the home healthcare industry.
Personal care aides, home healthcare aides, nurses and therapists are all insured, licensed and bonded. Potential Concept:CARE® team members go through a vigorous vetting and interview process. Greenberg asks all applicants for more references than the state health department requires.
“We have high standards for the staff to meet,” said Greenberg, who has 50 years of healthcare administration experience. “Our staff treats patients like they are their own loved ones. We really get to know them.” Concept:CARE® is available 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Clients and their families have access to registered nurses, client care coordinators and administrators. Together, Greenberg said, Concept:CARE allows a patient and their family to be a part of the healthcare team. Concept:CARE®’s services are diverse and the team can assist in the discussion of: • Care/Case Management • Therapeutic Interventions • Nursing Facilities • Elder-Care/Long Term Housing: Senior Housing, Assisted Living • State Contract Affiliations: Office for the Aging, NYS Department of Health & Office of the Developmentally Disabled

• Medicare, Medicaid, Third Party Insurance • Long Term Care Insurance • Community Resource • Adult Day Care Programs Among other things, Concept:CARE® prides itself on the fact that specialized services are provided at competitive rates. Case management and initial nursing evaluations are provided with no fees. Even if your needs are not within Concept:CARE®’s scope, they will gladly find you another caregiver at no charge, using its network of resources in the field. Yes, that certainly is unique, but there are so many other positive words you can use to describe Concept:CARE®. “We get so many compliments from patients and their families,” Greenberg said. “That is extremely gratifying. We take so much pride in providing collaborative healthcare to all of our patients. Everyone loves what we do and we will continue to provide specialized and unique healthcare to all of our patients.”

Do you ever have difficulty hearing or understanding speech in restaurants? At parties or family gatherings? Do you feel that people are mumbling all the time? Is the volume on your television creeping up? Is telephone conversation sometimes difficult to understand? If you answered yes to any of these questions, there is a strong possibility that you may have some degree of hearing loss. It has been shown that if a hearing loss is present, a person has to struggle to hear speech. Undue stress is put on that individual. This stress can have a negative effect on a persons quality of life. It can cause that person to avoid many social situations. This, in turn, can cause that person to become more isolated. ATTORNEYS AT LAW Many Years of Experience Protecting the Legal Interests of the Elderly & Special Needs Populations
Why should I spend money hiring attorneys to do asset protection planning for me and my loved ones? Currently, the monthly cost for nursing home care in New York ranges between $10,000-$15,000, and properly certified home health attendants (nurse aides) can cost as much or more for round- the-clock home care. Statistically, it is likely that most people will need either or both of these care options as they grow older. It is critical that you plan appropriately to best minimize the strain that elder care costs may have on your estate, and to help put you in the best position possible to qualify for benefits that are largely covered by the government, under Medicare or Medicaid. Our firm has attorneys with extensive experience in developing tax-effective action plans for our clients that help protect their assets from government imposition. We have also been very successful in negotiating the complex bureaucratic minefield in which Medicaid is now mired. We have achieved remarkable results for our clients on a host of Medicaid related issues, from obtaining Medicaid approvals for coverage of home care and institutional care benefits, to very accommodative resolutions of Medicaid spousal recovery claims, where the office of Medicaid aggressively pursues the non-institutionalized (i.e., or “community”) spouse for Medicaid benefits provided.
Why should I have a lawyer prepare my will? If you die without a Will, the law, not you, determines how your assets are divided and to whom they are given. A poorly drafted Will may result in a sizeable chunk of your assets not ending up where you want them to go. We are an experienced law firm that can expertly craft your will to address your long-term care, tax, estate planning, and asset protection planning issues. It is in your best interest that planning be done properly so as to minimize the tax burden on your estate. Our experience and skill in the fields of Trusts, Wills, and Estates enables our firm to uniquely tailor estate planning to your individual needs. We will review your entire estate and draft a personalized plan that will best direct the disposition of your assets after death, whether through your Will, or by means of testamentary substitutes (trusts, joint-asset ownership with right of survivorship, or by beneficiary designation in life insurance policies, annuities, or individual retirement accounts).
My father is having difficulty caring for himself. I am afraid he will no longer be able to live on his own. I am worried about finding the money to pay for his care, whether he stays at home or moves to an assisted living facility or nursing home. What do I do? Your concerns are certainly daunting, and heart-rending. Our firm offers you a caring hand, an open ear, and uncompromising professional competence, and commitment. We will help find for you solutions that best suit your needs, using the latest tax, trust, and other asset protection strategies available under the law.
