After helping hundreds of Westchester County herniated disc sufferers eliminated their pain, Local Doctor explains how…
“Back Pain Technology Cheats Mother Nature Helps Herniated Discs Heal Naturally… In As Little As 25 Minutes!” At Last! Westchester County Doctor Offers Technology That Doesn’t Just End SEVERE Pain From Herniated Discs, But Helps Your Body To Start Rebuilding Them… As Fast As Humanly Possible! Best Part: You can check it all out for FREE if you like! There is no doubt… technology has made all of our lives better… and easier. Just about every miraculous medical cure and comfort of modern living can be attributed to amazing breakthroughs in technology. Heck, laser eye surgery can give people who are almost as blind as a bat perfect 20/20 vision. How amazing is that? That’s why it’s no surprise that technology might be able to solve your back and neck pain from herniated/bulging discs or sciatica…for good. Here is why: Back and neck pain can be devastating. And nothing is worse than going to doctor after doctor… trying treatment after treatment… spending money you can’t afford… and still suffering in pain. That’s why… I bet you would love to instantly end your pain… without any risk what-soever… and have it never come back for the rest of your life? Well, that might NOT be so easy. But, what if there was a wonderful advancement in technology that, with a handful of simple, non-invasive treatments, could possibly have you out of pain and on your way to healing naturally? Better yet, what if this technology could possibly heal your herniated/bulging discs (instead of cutting it out like surgery) so you have the best chance to live pain-free and do all the things you want and love to do? And what if this technology was: 3 FDA cleared! 3 Proven safe and effective! 3 Allows your herniated discs to heal naturally without the risky and dangerous side effects of surgery! 3 Relieves pain fast… in some cases in as little as 25 minutes! Well, guess what? There is such technology and there is a very good chance it can help you… like it has already helps thousands of herniated/bulging disc and sciatica sufferers all around the country… No Matter How Bad Your Pain Is, How Long You’ve Been Suffering Or How Many Other Treatments And Doctors Have Failed You! Don’t laugh. It’s really true. Here’s proof…
When you have a herniated disc, compressive forces cause your spinal bones to come together… basically squashing your disc. The space in between your bones decreases and the soft, jello-like disc material leaks out. This disc material that leaks out is called a herniated disc and can cause severe pain, numbness and tingling in your neck, back, arms or legs when the herniation pushes into and “pinches” a nerve. So it makes sense, if you could slightly pull the spinal bones apart… that would open up the space, take the pressure off the disc, the disc off the nerve and solve the problem. Right? But the only problem is… how do you do that? For years and years, doctors have been trying to do it with traction. But traction has been proven ineffective and often very painful. Why? Traction doesn’t work because when you have a herniated or bulging disc, the area is injured and when you try to move, your muscles go into spasm. Spasm is your body’s way of trying to protect you from causing further injury. That’s why traction hurts so much. As soon as the traction starts… your muscles overprotect the area and spasm. But the good news is: Now there is technology that out-smarts your body’s natural spasm reaction. In other words: It fools mother nature! This technology is called non-surgical spinal decompression (NSSD) and here’s how it works… NSSD is very different from plain traction because it has advanced computer technology that actually senses your spinal muscles. When it starts to gently pull, it immediately knows when your muscles start to contract and it stops pulling. As soon as your muscles relax, it starts pulling again. The amazing thing is: the computer senses your muscles contraction so early… you don’t even feel what is going on. Which means you never feel any pain! In fact, the only thing most patients feel is… RELIEF!!! But the best part is: NSSD is able to gently separate your spinal bones which, in many cases, actually sucks the herniated disc material back into the disc where it belongs! This takes away your pain and allows your herniated and bulging discs to heal naturally!
And check this out: Treatments are pleasant and simple. All you have to do is lie on your back, listen to your favorite music, read a magazine… or… take a nap! The wonderful technology does everything while you simply RELAX the pain away! To sum up NSSD: • For most patients it is 100% painless… in fact many patients actually fall asleep during treatment! • Works fast! Most patients get relief after a handful of treatments – some after the very first! • Is non-invasive so it does not have the dangerous risks of surgery! • Gets to the root cause of the problem and helps it heal naturally! Isn’t modern technology wonderful? And wouldn’t you like to… Give This Great Technology A Try… For Free? If you would, there’s great news. There is a Doctor located at 222 Westchester Ave. Suite 405 in White Plains who has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in this wonderful technology and has been treating herniated/bulging disc and sciatica patients with incredible success. His name is Dr. Jonathan Donath DC, MS and he is so excited about the results he’s been getting, he would like to share it with as many pain sufferers as possible. But There Is A Catch… There’s always a catch... isn’t there? Even though this technology has helped a majority of the patients Dr. Donath has treated… it is not a wonder cure and it does not help everyone.
On the right: healthy disc. Center: Herniated disc with soft disc material leaking out. On the left: Herniated disc material compressing or “pinching” nerve.
For that reason, Dr. Donath does a complete examination on every potential patient and only accepts you if he feels you are most likely to get the pain relief and outcome you are looking for. Dr. Donath’s Special Deal For You! Because the economy is so bad and Dr. Donath wants to help you if possible, he is offering the first 17 people who respond to this article a free consultation and NSSD qualification examination. And if you qualify for NSSD treatments, Dr. Donath will also give you one treatment for FREE! And if you do not qualify, Dr. Donath will help you find the best option for you. That’s why, if you suffer with pain from a herniated/bulging disc or sciatica you should call 914-259-8104 right now. When Barbara answers the phone, simply tell her you would like your free non-surgical spinal decompression consultation and examination. If you are one of the first 17, she will schedule you within the next few days. If you are in a lot of pain or already scheduled for surgery, tell Barbara and she will be sure to get you in immediately. Maybe even today.
On right: Herniated disc with spinal bones “squished” together. Center: NSSD slightly pulls the spinal bones apart, opens up the disc space and allows herniated material to move back into the disc. Left: Herniated material completely back in center of disc allows the disc to heal naturally. Your consultation and examination should take about 60 minutes. During this time you can get all of your questiones answered in a warm and friendly environment. You will know exactly what’s causing your pain and the best possible way to solve it. Dr. Donath will explain to you all your possible options along with his recomendations so you can make the best choice for YOU.
Why Limited To 17? Dr. Donath has limited the number he will accept right now to 17 because he does not believe patients should wait and they should also get the quality personal attention they deserve. When you go for your free visit, I’m sure you will see how unique and pleasant the experience is. It’s nice to be treated like a person and not a number or based on insurance coverage. It’s also nice to know exactly what’s causing your pain and how to relieve it as fast as possible. Dr. Donath’s favorite cases are the one’s that were able to cancel back surgery after only a handful of treatments. Dr. Donath also loves when a herniated disc patient that is in excruciating pain and thinks they’ve tried everything, lays down on the NSSD table, takes a 25 minute nap… and… wakes up with all their pain GONE! Just imagine how it would feel to have all your pain finally gone. Imagine going to bed and being able to sleep the entire night through… … and waking up refreshed and energized… ready to take on the brand new day – without the pain and stiffness that has been terrorizing you. And imagine finally knowing you have the solution to your herniated disc pain. Well, you may not have to just “imagine” anymore… because… NSSD might start relieving your pain… in just 25 minutes! So, if you’d like to see if you qualify and give this amazing technology a try for free… give Barbara a call at 914-259-8104 right now. Why wait one more day in pain when the solution may be one quick phone call away? Call now before someone else gets your free spot. One More Thing It’s Important… Ever since getting this wonderful technology, Dr. Donath’s office has been flooded with calls. For that reason, if when you call, the lines are busy or you go to voice mail… just keep calling back. The possibility of living pain-free is well worth the time and effort it may take you to get through and schedule your appointment. 914-259-8104

Healthcare News - Westchester
With its New, eHealth Program, Westchester Medical Center Health Network will connect and improve patient care across the Hudson Valley In a major step to enhance patient care throughout the Hudson Valley, the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) unveiled its new, technology-driven eHealth program, an initiative that is expected to improved patient outcomes throughout the Hudson Valley. At the core of WMCHealth’s eHealth initiative is the network’s 5,500-square-foot eHealth operations center, which features 20 multimedia stations equipped with the latest telehealth patient monitoring technologies and software. This hub will be staffed around the clock by highlytrained physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals. They will serve, remotely, as a complement to – and not a replacement for - the dedicated care

New, Cutting-Edge eHealth Center with Telehealth Technology to provide care teams with additional support teams for WMCHealth patients in network hospitals, nursing homes, physician offices and, eventually, homes across the region. The eHealth program represents an initial $7 million investment in technology, infrastructure, staff and additional resources in the well-being of Hudson Valley residents by WMCHealth. It is the first telehealth program of its kind based in the Hudson Valley and for Hudson Valley residents. WMCHealth already has enjoyed a successful launch of its eHealth program with an ePsychiatry initiative, which has been connecting behavioral health outpatients and staff at its MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, New York, with clinical psychiatry specialists at its Valhalla, New York-based Be-
havioral Health Center. The new effort has already resulted in a greatly improved appointment compliance rate and increased patient satisfaction. Now launching, another exciting application of the eHealth program will be in WMCHealth intensive care units (ICUs). There, doctors and nurses trained in critical care medicine will use sophisticated equipment at the eHealth Center to monitor vital signs around the clock and collaborate with bedside teams. Using the eHealth Center’s state-of-the-art, telehealth technology, expertly-trained medical staff can accurately monitor patients in the initial 98 ICU beds from this centralized location. Vital signs, medications, blood test results, X-rays and other pertinent infor-

mation from bedside monitors will be sent to the eHealth control center by secure, high-speed data lines. This information will be displayed on a bank of displays exactly as it is seen in the hospital room by bedside care teams. These electronic ICU (eICU) patients will be monitored through the use of special, two-way video cameras which allow the eHealth team to consult directly with bedside doctors, nurses, family members and patients. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, the incorporation of telehealth initiatives in eICUs has been shown to decrease mortality by 20 percent and reduce the length of hospital stay by 26 percent, “an outcome that is certainly worth the investment we are making in eHealth,” said WMCHealth President and CEO Michael Israel. “With seven hospitals and dozens of health-related entities across 6,200-square miles, supported by a workforce of 10,000 dedicated professionals, eHealth will extend our expertise further into the communities we serve, delivering on our commitment to provide the best care as close to home as possible to the residents of the Hudson Valley.” WMCHealth will continue to expand and activate its eHealth program over the next few months with full application of the technology in ICUs at its Westchester Medical Center and MidHudson Regional Hospital sites scheduled for January 2016. WMCHealth plans to bring the eHealth program to other network sites in the Hudson Valley in proceeding months. “With our new eHealth program, WMCHealth is enhancing patient care by leveraging today’s latest technologies and supporting the great work of our bedside
doctors and nurses,” remarked Corey Scurlock, M.D., Medical Director, WMCHealth Telehealth Center. Dr. Scurlock noted that WMCHealth is joining a select list of progressive organizations as more than 50 health systems and 400 hospitals nationwide are operating telehealth programs with great success. A portion of the advanced technologies used in WMCHealth’s eHealth program were acquired as part of network’s transformative business partnership with Philips. Earlier this year WMCHealth and Philips entered into an historic, $500 million partnership that over its 15-year term will bring the most sophisticated and helpful medical technologies to Hudson Valley residents cared for through network services.
About Westchester Medical Center Health Network The Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) is a 1,500-bed healthcare system headquartered in Valhalla, NY, spanning seven hospitals and several campuses and locations in the Hudson Valley. Its flagship, Westchester Medical Center, is the only regional resource for tertiary and quaternary care, covering 6,000 square miles in eight counties and serving more than three million people. WMCHealth employs more than 10,000 people, with nearly 3,000 attending physicians. From Level 1 and Level 2 Trauma Centers, the region’s only acute care children’s hospital, an academic medical center, several community hospitals and numerous health-related centers, programs and services, today WMCHealth is the leading and pre-eminent provider of integrated health in the Hudson Valley.

You must protect your assets, family and future now!
The Importance of Elder Law: For nearly 30 years, practicing law has been Ely Rosenzveig’s passion. His inspiration? That comes from, among other things, his life experiences, the people he has met, and the clients he works with every day. The widow who didn’t have a will and was concerned about her financial future. The family that was reeling from health issues impacting their elderly loved ones without any planning in place to address their needs, leaving them with the prospect of exorbitantly expensive care needs. Ely Rosenzveig was a rabbi in Westchester County. The plight of some in his congregation moved him to practice elder law and trust and estate planning. He would become a senior partner at one of the foremost elder law firms in the country, but left to join hands with his son, Ariel. “I really jumped at the opportunity to work in this area of law,” Ely Rosenzveig said. “I think it’s special kind of work. To help people and work with your son is incredibly rewarding. Ariel is a great asset – a wonderful and gifted young attorney.” The law firm of Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, P.C. in White Plains practices in all areas of elder law, including trust and
estate planning, administration, and litigation, tax counsel, asset protection and special needs planning, Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security disability benefits, guardianships, long term care planning, spousal recovery claims, and Medicaid lien resolutions. Father and son pride themselves on an unyielding commitment to the zealous advocacy of their clients’ interests. Estate planning is one of the most important steps any person can take to make sure that their final property and health care wishes are honored, and that loved ones are provided for in their absence. A comprehensive estate plan can resolve a number of legal questions that arise whenever anyone dies. Appropriate estate and Medicaid planning can help preserve assets, reduce taxes, and help individuals qualify for Medicaid. “People don’t want to talk about illness and death,” Ariel Rosenzveig said. “It’s a tough subject. People are reluctant, but the type of measures that we implement for our clients can save them and their loved ones a lot of money. Proper planning will help provide financial and emotional security for all involved.”
The firm is very experienced in making sure that those eligible for Medicaid and Medicare get the benefits they deserve. Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, P.C. has been very successful in negotiating the complex bureaucratic minefield in which Medicaid is now mired, a dynamic only exacerbated with the passage of the Deficit reduction Act of 2006, and the new rules regarding the look-back requirements, and penalty period calculations for non-Medicaid exempt asset transfers. The firm has achieved remarkable results for clients on a host of Medicaid related issues, from getting Medicaid approvals for coverage of home care and institutional care benefits, to very accommodative resolutions of Medicaid spousal recovery claims, where the office of Medicaid aggressively pursues the non-institutionalized (i.e., or “community”) spouse for Medicaid benefits provided. No matter what the case, Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, P.C. prides itself on working with each client individually, catering to each one’s diverse needs. Estate planning should begin at a young age with a will, health care proxy, living
will and durable power of attorney. As you grow older and accumulate assets, it is especially important that you speak with an experience elder law attorney issues pertaining to issues concerning Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and further estate planning. Elder law is about more than just saving money. When viewed properly, elder law is about two major things: First, ensuring that your personal wishes — financial, medical, and legal — are carried out; and second, understanding that elder law is a family matter affecting an intricate web of individual relationships. Knowing that your potential long-term care needs have already been addressed frees you and your family from needless worry. And Ely and Ariel Rosenzveig are there to help their cherished clients every step of the way. “We want every client to feel like they are our only client,” Ely Rosenzveig said. “We are totally committed to ensuring that we be fully responsive to our clients’ every need. For us, this is tremendously rewarding. It is the very reason why we have become elder law attorneys.”

As far back as I can remember, I’ve loved to explore new places. As an adult, it could be as simple as trying a new restaurant or as complex as my upcoming solo trip to Hong Kong and Beijing. However, my love for adventure had much more humble beginnings. Back when I was small, I found myself exploring the woods behind the cabin that my family was vacationing in or wandering one block farther than my mother allowed. And even though on some level it can be a bit frightening (I’m a little nervous about the solo China trip since I’m not able to speak or read Chinese at all!), it doesn’t stop me from wanting to see new places and discover new things.
It turns out that this may be beyond my control. Scientists have discovered genome DRD4-7R, otherwise known as the “Wanderlust Gene.” According to researcher David Dobbs, some of the traits are a stronger urge to explore new places, ideas, foods and relationships, as well as a tendency to embrace adventure, movement and change. Aside from my lack of adventure when it comes to trying new cuisine (I don’t care that researchers from the Oxford of University say that bugs are healthier than steak or chicken, I still won’t eat them), I’d say this describes me pretty well.
In addition to the genetics involved, my upbringing definitely played a part. Travel was always a priority to my family. Every year, we always took a family vacation somewhere. I remember the excitement of piling into the car with my three sisters and taking off for parts unknown. Some years we would drive for hours and end up in the Smoky Mountains, some years it was just a quick trip to a local cabin, but each year it was a destination that was very different from the suburban neighborhood in which we lived. The belief of embracing places and people that were different and unfamiliar became instilled in me at a young age.
Between nature and nurture, I didn’t have a chance. I’ve either got a trip planned, I’m on a trip or I’m researching where my next trip will be. Before I became a travel consultant (agent), I traveled extensively for work and if I had a week at home, I would start to get antsy. Although I stumbled into becoming a travel consultant, it turned out to be a much better fit for me than my previous corporate job ever was. I am able to live vicariously through my clients and can share in their anticipation of their upcoming travel and their excitement of telling their travel adventures after their trip.
Although far from being a health care professional, I like to think that I help contribute to my clients’ health in my own way. Not only can a well-planned vacation give a person time away from stress, but there have been many studies that show that travel also reduces depression, death from heart disease and increases cognitive health. The best part? These benefits are seen after only a day or two of travel. I’m definitely not suggesting that this take the place of any course of treatment that a medical doctor has prescribed but I do think it’s a great supplement.
I’m looking forward to sharing information and my thoughts about travel in the upcoming months. I welcome your feedback and if you have questions or topics that you’d like to have addressed, please drop me a line. I’d love to hear from you.”

November's tip:
Travel this Thanksgiving is predicted to be the highest since 2007. If you are like me, you'll be one of the 3.5 million travelers that will be getting on a plane this year. Do yourself a favor and allow plenty of time before your flight. Even if you are an experienced flyer, allow extra time. Not only are there a LOT more people, and a lot of inexperienced flyers, in the airport, but traffic getting into the airport will be heavier as well. I know that this is not a new tip because I see it every year but it bears repeating for a reason. If you miss your holiday flight, you are not likely to find another one in time for your turkey dinner!
Giving (and getting) the gift of health this Holiday season
Healthcare News - Westchester December, 2015
PAGE 15
Imagine if you could ask for a gift this holiday season that would change the way you feel, or change the way you look, or change the way you do things in your day-to-day life, or just push the accelerator on getting you to a whole new state of feeling good? Imagine that! Here are some healthy suggestions to put on your wish list. You can also give them to a loved one during the Holiday season. A tea kettle With the availability of so many wonderful, gourmet teas from around the world—black, green, red, white, herbal— many are giving up their triple tall, latté in favor of these delicious, warming, liquid nectars. Having a counter-top tea kettle serves the need for near-instant gratification when the fancy strikes, these things heat up fast.
A super-powered blender We’re all for juicing, but smoothies are where the body-love is at. Why the super-powered blender?
You get the nourishment of the whole food, with minimal chopping/prepping and easy clean-up. Not to mention that they taste great!
A good chef’s knife You don’t need a giant block set of knives to make delicious food. One simple, high quality, 8-inch chef's knife will be your go-to kitchen tool that you can use for everything from slicing onions to carving chicken. Cooking classes Do an internet search for places that offer cooking classes in your area, then ask Santa for a gift certificate for one, two, or even a whole series of classes. Reserve two spots in class and bring your significant other along for a super fun date night.
A pair of new kicks If you exercise regularly, a great pair of athletic shoes is a must-have. And if you’re trying to make exercise more of a priority, a bright pair of new kicks in the season's most amazing colors might just be the motivation you need to make it happen. Ask for what lights your fire and you’ll be excited to put those puppies on and head out!

Noted Scarsdale Dentist, Author and Lecturer's New Textbook is a Legacy that Spans 67 Years and 2 Generations j
Edward Feinberg, DMD, has been working in the same dental practice since age 16. He is the heir to a tradition of restorative dentistry that dates back to the 1930s. It was started by Dr. I. Franklin Miller and advanced by Dr. Feinberg's fatherͶDr. Elliot Feinberg. "My father was a famous practitioner, author and lecturer," says Dr. Feinberg. ͞He started documenting his cases in 1950 with slides and XRays. Together we amassed a library of over 100,000 slides of crown and bridge, precision attachment and implant cases that spanned 5 decades. For the last 10 years I've expanded this library with thousands of digital images." Now Dr. Edward Feinberg has continued his father's legacy of dental education with a new textbook: The Double-Tilt Precision Attachment Case for Natural Teeth and Implants: A time-tested alternative to fixed bridgework. Dr. Feinberg's textbook offers dentists an in-depth philosophical and technical approach to a littleknown option for full arch restorative treatment that was invented in 1906. This treatment has perhaps the best track record of any type of full arch dental treatment, and Dr. Feinberg's new book provides the evidence with hundreds of pictures of clinical cases that were created at the office over a 64-year period. All of the cases were prepared according to the same basic principles, even though different materials were used. Many of these cases lasted decades and required minimal maintenance. There were many miracles, as these cases proved to be successful on the weakest teeth imaginable. For the past 20 years, they have worked exceedingly well on implants. "In addition to providing the highest quality care to patients, my father was a devoted teacher," says Dr. Feinberg. "He gave demonstration courses at the office for 40 years and donated all the revenues to the dental association. He also wrote a textbook on fixed bridgework that was a best seller and translated into several languages. It is my mission to continue his tradition of caring for patients and sharing knowledge and skills with colleagues. We talked about writing a book together on removable bridgework more than 20 years ago when he was alive. I'm thrilled to have made this dream a reality, and I dedicated my book to him." Dr. Feinberg continues to practice dentistry in the Harwood Building in downtown Scarsdale, NY. He also lectures for universities and dental associations and is available to give presentations to interested groups. Dr. Feinberg is a past president of the Ninth District Dental Association and has served on four councils of the American Dental Association. He is a past chairman of the Council on Publications for the New York State Dental Association. On the local level, he is a past president of the Scarsdale Rotary Club, secretary of the Scarsdale § Edgemont Family Counseling Service and education coordinator for the BNI Genesis Chapter. He is a fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. Dr. Feinberg is a recipient of the Ninth District Dental Association D. Austen Sniffen Award, the Paul Harris Fellowship Award and the NY State Pierre Fauchard Academy's Award for Distinguished Service. Book Signing Party:

Do you want to be able to offer group health insurance to your valuable 1099 Employees? By Andrew J. Cavaliere, CLTC Now business owners who want to offer group health insurance to their 1099 employees can do so. Several of the largest health insurers in New York State will now permit small group employer sponsored plans to extend coverage to all eligible 1099 contractors who meet specific criteria unless they belong to a union class excluded as the result of a collective bargaining arrangement.
Eligible employees are those employees who are legal and work a normal work week of at least 20 hours, and who have met any authorized waiting period. Eligible employees include proprietors, partners, officers and managers. It also includes: ➢ 1099 employees.
➢ Co-employees of a PEO, Employee Leasing Company or other such entity that is a co-employer with a client or client-site employees.
A s k A n
➢ Temporary and seasonal employees, at the option of the employer.
Classes of employees based on “conditions pertaining to employment” are permitted at the option of the employer for policies issued or renewed prior to January 1, 2016. Examples of permissible classes of employees are: • • • • • •
Hours Salaried versus hourly Geographic location Directors, managers and shareholders Job duties Earnings
If an employee and their dependent(s) work for the same company and elect to enroll as employee and dependent, applicable documentation to determine the dependent’s actual employment status must be provided as any other employee of the group (for example, NYS-45, partnership documentation, etc.).
Employees who are not eligible for coverage include substitute, uncompensated employee(s), employee(s) making less than equivalent minimum wage, volunteer(s), inactive owner(s), shareholder(s) only, board member(s), outside consultant(s), officer(s) who are not active, managing member(s) who are not active, investor(s) only or silent partner(s). If the employer’s employee eligibility criteria definition differs from the above definition (more than 20 hours), the employer’s actual definition must be provided on the employer application at the time of new business submission and the normal work week cannot be less than 20 hours. Employees are eligible to enroll in the dental plan even if they do not select medical coverage and vice versa.
This is a huge departure from traditional small group medical underwriting guidelines of the past.

20 medical schools join with AMA to expand work to create the medical school of the future Healthcare News - Westchester December, 2015
New schools will join AMA consortium to reshape how future physicians are trained and improve health outcomes
The American Medical Association (AMA) recently announced the 20 medical schools selected to join its Accelerating Change in Medical Education Consortium to enhance the innovative work underway to create the medical school of the future and quickly spread these innovations to additional medical schools throughout the country. The 20 new schools will build upon the projects that were created by the 11 schools awarded grants by the AMA in 2013 and ultimately impact thousands of medical students across the nation currently being trained to care for patients in the rapidly changing health care environment. With the added schools, the now 31 school consortium will support training for an estimated 18,000 medical students who will one day care for 31 million patients each year. “Our goal throughout this initiative has been to spread the robust work being done by our consortium to accelerate systemic change throughout medical education,” said AMA CEO James L. Madara, M.D. “By tripling the number of schools participating in this effort, we know that we will be able to more quickly disseminate the Consortium schools’ innovative curriculum models to even more schools—leading to the type of seismic shift that the medical education system needs so that future physicians can better care for their patients.” The new medical schools announced will each receive $75,000 over the next three years to advance the AMA’s innovative work aimed at transforming undergraduate medical education to better align with the 21st century health care system. Through a competitive grant process, the schools were selected from among 170 eligible U.S. medical schools by a national advisory panel which sought proposals that would significantly redesign medical education. Some of the selected projects proposed by the new schools include programs that
incorporate medical students into care coordination teams in an accountable care organization aimed at improving care for patients with multiple chronic conditions. Other selected projects focus on developing advanced simulation and telemedicine technologies to foster skills specific to the needs of rural or remote communities. The list of selected schools, along with short descriptions of each school’s project, can be found online at www.changemeded.org. “Together, the 31 schools will collectively work to quickly identify and widely share the best models for educational change to ensure future physicians are prepared for a lifetime of learning, to lead a team of professionals in delivering care and to explore innovative ways to care for patients, populations and communities in the evolving health care
system,” said Susan E. Skochelak, M.D., M.P.H., AMA Group Vice President for Medical Education. “By working together, we believe that during the next several years this effort will produce physicians who are not just skilled clinicians, but system-based thinkers, change agents, technology champions and interprofessional team players.”
About the AMA The American Medical Association is the premier national organization dedicated to empowering the nation’s physicians to continually provide safer, higher quality, and more efficient care to patients and communities. For more than 165 years the AMA has been unwavering in its commitment to using its unique position and knowledge to shape a healthier future for America. For more information, visit ama-assn.org.

Phelps receives Accreditation in Echocardiology PAGE 24
December, 2015
Phelps Memorial Hospital Center’s cardiovascular laboratory has been granted a three-year term of accreditation in echocardiography in the areas of adult transthoracic, adult transesophageal and adult stress testing by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC). This is the first time the lab has received this accreditation, and now it is fully accredited in all of the cardiovascular testing services it provides. Accreditation by the IAC means that Phelps’ lab has undergone a thorough review of its operational and technical components by a panel of experts. The IAC grants accreditation only to those facilities that are found to provide quality patient care in compliance with national standards through a comprehensive application process including detailed case study review. “I feel that this reflects the excellence in echocardiography that the staff and physicians demonstrate daily,” says Tim Wages, Senior Administrative Director of Ancillary Services at Phelps. “We have met the IAC’s requirements for standardized acquisition and interpretation of

echocardiography testing. This accreditation is an affirmation that our department’s standards are of high quality, including policies and procedures.”
Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death in the United States. On average, one American dies every 39 seconds of cardiovascular disease – disorders of the
heart and blood vessels. The American Heart Association estimates that the direct and indirect cost for cardiovascular disease in the U.S. for 2010 was $503.2 billion. Early detection of life-threatening heart disorders and other diseases is possible through the use of echocardiography procedures performed within hospitals, outpatient centers and physician offices. While these tests are helpful, there are many facets that contribute to an accurate diagnosis based on echocardiography testing. The skill of the echocardiography sonographer performing the examination, the type of equipment used, the background and knowledge of the interpreting physician, and quality assurance measures are each critical to quality patient testing. IAC accreditation is widely respected with in the medical community, as illustrated by the support of the national medical societies related to echocardiography, which include physicians and sonographers. Echocardiography accreditation is required in some states and regions by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and by some private insurers.

Northern Westchester Hospital to receive $5.4 million in FEMA funding to enhance its emergency electrical infrastructure Largest grant ever received by the hospital
Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH) will receive $5.4 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in order to enhance its emergency electrical infrastructure. This grant will be used exclusively to upgrade NWH’s emergency electrical system to a Type 1-Essential Electrical System (EES), bringing its electrical infrastructure to the highest level of emergency preparedness. The FEMA grant is the largest in the hospital’s history. The FEMA grant was strongly supported by U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, and Congresswoman Nita Lowey, who urged FEMA to provide this critical funding. NWH lost its primary, Consolidated-Edison (ConEd), power for 70 hours during Superstorm Sandy requiring the activation of its backup generators to serve as a primary power source. Although, at no time did NWH lose its emergency fixed standby generators, the Type 1EES project is necessary to significantly strengthen the hospital’s emergency power systems. With this funding from FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, NWH will completely modernize its electrical system, creating three separate
power branches that will help it withstand the impact of future storms as well as two increasedcapacity generators. The total project cost is $7,227,511; FEMA will cover 75 percent of the cost, at $5,420,633. The remaining $1.8MM will be reinvested hospital operating revenue. As a not-for-profit organization, any operating revenue gained is reinvested into the hospital to serve the community. “This is great news for the Northern Westchester Hospital and the thousands of patients who rely on it every day for emergency medical care. With this funding, and with the lessons learned from Superstorm Sandy, this hospital will be able to upgrade their electrical system so it can better withstand future storms,” said Senator Schumer. “This critical FEMA funding will help provide much needed resources to facilitate electrical system improvements at Northern Westchester Hospital,” said Senator Gillibrand. “Superstorm Sandy devastated our communities and these funds will help secure the hospital, giving peace of mind to the thousands of New Yorkers that it will be ready for an emergency and can withstand the next storm.”

2015 Healthcare News - Westchester December, October, 2015
When Concept:CARE®’s president Carol Greenberg talks to clients, they often use the word unique to describe the respected home healthcare operation. “Everyone in the Concept:CARE® family finds gratification in how they assist each individual client…and that in itself is unique. We don’t just go the extra mile. We go the extra three miles.” That is obvious in everything Concept:CARE®, located in White Plains, does. Greenberg’s caring staff passionately treats its patients while working with their family to decide what is actually needed for that client to remain safely and comfortably in their own surroundings. Concept:CARE®’s operational and caregiving staff are some of the most highly regarded in the home healthcare industry. All direct caregivers who provide hands on services are insured, licensed and bonded. Potential Concept:CARE® team members go through a vigorous vetting and interview process. “We ask that our potential employee have a minimum of one year documented experience and provide 4 references to be kept on file.”
“We have high standards for the staff to meet,” said Greenberg, who has 50 years of healthcare administration experience. “Our staff treats patients like they are their own loved ones. We really get to know them.” Concept:CARE® is available 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Clients and their families have access to registered nurses, client care coordinators and administrators. Together, Greenberg said, Concept:CARE® welcomes a patient and their family to be a part of the healthcare team. Concept:CARE®’s services are diverse and can assist in the discussion of: • Care/Case Management • Therapeutic Interventions • Nursing Facilities • Elder-Care/Long Term Housing: Senior Housing, Assisted Living • State Contract Affiliations: Office for the Aging, NYS Department of Health & Office of the Developmentally Disabled • Medicare, Medicaid, Third Party Insurance
• Long Term Care Insurance • Community Resource • Adult Day Care Programs Among other things, Concept:CARE® prides itself on the fact that specialized services are provided at competitive rates. Case management and initial nursing evaluations are services provided to Concept:CARE® client’s free of charge. Even if your needs are not within Concept:CARE®’s scope of practice, they will gladly assist you in finding other options at no charge, using its network of respected resources in the field. Yes, that certainly is unique, but there are so many other positive words you can use to describe Concept:CARE®. “We get so many compliments from patients and their families,” Greenberg said. “That is extremely gratifying. We take so much pride in providing collaborative healthcare to all of our patients. Everyone loves what they do at Concept:CARE® and this enables us to provide specialized and unique healthcare to all of our clients and their families.”

What do doctors do to treat their own pain? PAGE 30

Healthcare News - Westchester
As a board-certified internist who has been in practice for over 13 years, I spend much of my time attempting to alleviate the pain and suffering of my patients. As a clinician, one of the biggest challenges I face is helping my patients deal with musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes—those all-too-common, yet frequently debilitating ailments caused by bad backs, pinched nerves, arthritis, and the like. Unfortunately, much of what I have to offer my patients boils down to the following: take a pain pill, stretch if you can, wait, and hope for the best. After a failed trial of “conservative” therapy a call might go out to the orthopedic surgeon for assistance; a truly satisfactory result is not common. The simple fact is that physicians are not well trained to deal with musculoskeletal pain, and patients can suffer as a result. Thankfully, my views on this topic have been turned completely upside down since I havepersonally discovered Dr. Jonathan Donath’s outstanding practice. After beginning a vigorous exercise regimen I started to experience awful neck and upper back pain, accompanied by numbness and tingling down my left arm and fingers. For weeks I tried to nurse the pain with non steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, but the pain persisted and got to the point that I was almost unable to work, sleep, or most importantly, play guitar. I wasliterally in tears from the excruciating pain. A neurosurgeon diagnosed a herniated disc and pinched nerve in my neck and offered to decompress it with an operation. In desperation I called Dr. Donath instead. My visit to Dr. Donath’s office was an outstanding experience. He spent about an hour with me and combined multiple modalities to fix the herniated disc in my neck: deep massage, active release techniques, traditional manipulation, cold therapy, and finally spinal decompression. After that first hour with Dr. Donath my pain had decreased from a 10/10 down to a manageable 4/10, and I was able to comfortably move my head and neck. That very night I was able to play guitar again. Two days later I went back for another series of treatments and the pain decreased even further. After about five days the pain was absolutely gone. Unbelievable! Since then he has used the same wonderful techniques to help me overcome painful bouts of sciatica as well. My own patients and family members have become “believers” in Dr. Donath’s abilities as well--- the results he achieves are real and lasting. He is my go to guy for the majority of musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes that I now realize are truly treatable. Dr. Robert Sidlow MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine
I am a pediatrician and in my work, I have to bend down a lot and I’m constantly lifting kids. I usually have one to three bad flare ups of low back pain every year. When my back would "go out", I could barely walk to the bathroom and would have to lie down in bed for a few days. I have tried everything: doing nothing and "toughing it out", muscle relaxants, physical therapy, chiropractic, therapeutic massage, and even painful steroid injections. Nothing worked. When I moved to Westchester, I met Dr. Jonathan Donath. In just a couple of sessions with Dr. Donath, the pain completely disappeared. If it hadn't happened to me, I wouldn't have believed it. During my last flare up, I was expecting to be on my back for 2-3 days and in pain for 2 weeks. Instead, after one session with Dr. Donath, I was able to walk; two more sessions and I was fine. I could walk, bend down and I had almost no pain. Since that last back episode, Dr. Donath has helped me with my tendonitis in my right hand and with my chronic knee problems. I recommend Dr. Donath to everyone with back, muscle or joint pain. Even if you have not had relief with other treatments and other Chiropractors, give Dr. Donath a chance. I did and he changed my life. Eugene Dinkevich MD, Mount Vernon, NY It’s my great pleasure to write about Westchester Spinal Decompression Center. I really don’t have words to express my feelings about the care I got in last 3 months. I was almost handicapped, living with terrible pain all the time, crippling my day to day life. I am a medical doctor and work in a hospital with all sorts of amazing physicians, but after seeing a physical therapist, getting epidural steroids injections, many orthopedists and neurosurgeons, finally my destination lead me to see Dr Jonathan Donath. With great skepticism, I lied down for spinal decompression therapy. It was unbelievable that after only two initial sessions, my radiating pain down my leg had almost disappeared. Gradually, I started getting better, started doing exercises that they gave me midway through the treatment. Now, I am doing all my daily activities without any pain. I highly recommend Dr Jonathan and his colleague Dr Kavita for any problems related to the musculoskeletal system, you will definitely feel at home and will get better.
