“Back Pain Technology Cheats Mother Nature
After helping hundreds of Westchester County herniated disc sufferers eliminate their pain, Local Doctor explains how…
Helps Herniated Discs Heal Naturally… In As Little As 25 Minutes!”
At Last! Westchester County Doctor Offers Technology That Doesn’t Just End SEVERE Pain From Herniated Discs, But Helps Your Body To Start Rebuilding Them… As Fast As Humanly Possible! Best Part: You can check it all out for FREE if you like! There is no doubt… technology has made all of our lives better… and easier. Just about every miraculous medical cure and comfort of modern living can be attributed to amazing breakthroughs in technology. Heck, laser eye surgery can give people who are almost as blind as a bat perfect 20/20 vision. How amazing is that? That’s why it’s no surprise that technology might be able to solve your back and neck pain from herniated/bulging discs or sciatica…for good. Here is why: Back and neck pain can be devastating. And nothing is worse than going to doctor after doctor… trying treatment after treatment… spending money you can’t afford… and still suffering in pain. That’s why… I bet you would love to instantly end your pain… without any risk what-soever… and have it never come back for the rest of your life? Well, that might NOT be so easy. But, what if there was a wonderful advancement in technology that, with a handful of simple, non-invasive treatments, could possibly have you out of pain and on your way to healing naturally? Better yet, what if this technology could possibly heal your herniated/bulging discs (instead of cutting it out like surgery) so you have the best chance to live pain-free and do all the things you want and love to do? And what if this technology was: • FDA cleared! • Proven safe and effective! • Allows your herniated discs to heal naturally without the risky and dangerous side effects of surgery! • Relieves pain fast… in some cases in as little as 25 minutes! Well, guess what? There is such technology and there is a very good chance it can help you… like it has already helps thousands of herniated/bulging disc and sciatica sufferers all around the country… No Matter How Bad Your Pain Is, How Long You’ve Been Suffering Or How Many Other Treatments And Doctors Have Failed You! Don’t laugh. It’s really true. Here’s proof…
When you have a herniated disc, compressive forces cause your spinal bones to come together… basically squashing your disc. The space in between your bones decreases and the soft, jello-like disc material leaks out. This disc material that leaks out is called a herniated disc and can cause severe pain, numbness and tingling in your neck, back, arms or legs when the herniation pushes into and “pinches” a nerve. So it makes sense, if you could slightly pull the spinal bones apart… that would open up the space, take the pressure off the disc, the disc off the nerve and solve the problem. Right? But the only problem is… how do you do that? For years and years, doctors have been trying to do it with traction. But traction has been proven ineffective and often very painful. Why? Traction doesn’t work because when you have a herniated or bulging disc, the area is injured and when you try to move, your muscles go into spasm. Spasm is your body’s way of trying to protect you from causing further injury. That’s why traction hurts so much. As soon as the traction starts… your muscles overprotect the area and spasm. But the good news is: Now there is technology that out-smarts your body’s natural spasm reaction. In other words: It fools mother nature! This technology is called non-surgical spinal decompression (NSSD) and here’s how it works… NSSD is very different from plain traction because it has advanced computer technology that actually senses your spinal muscles. When it starts to gently pull, it immediately knows when your muscles start to contract and it stops pulling. As soon as your muscles relax, it starts pulling again. The amazing thing is: the computer senses your muscles contraction so early… you don’t even feel what is going on. Which means you never feel any pain! In fact, the only thing most patients feel is… RELIEF!!! But the best part is: NSSD is able to gently separate your spinal bones which, in many cases, actually sucks the herniated disc material back into the disc where it belongs! This takes away your pain and allows your herniated and bulging discs to heal naturally!
And check this out: Treatments are pleasant and simple. All you have to do is lie on your back, listen to your favorite music, read a magazine… or… take a nap! The wonderful technology does everything while you simply RELAX the pain away! To sum up NSSD: • For most patients it is 100% painless… in fact many patients actually fall asleep during treatment! • Works fast! Most patients get relief after a handful of treatments – some after the very first! • Is non-invasive so it does not have the dangerous risks of surgery! • Gets to the root cause of the problem and helps it heal naturally! Isn’t modern technology wonderful? And wouldn’t you like to… Give This Great Technology A Try… For Free? If you would, there’s great news. There is a Doctor located at 222 Westchester Ave. Suite 405 in White Plains who has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in this wonderful technology and has been treating herniated/bulging disc and sciatica patients with incredible success. His name is Dr. Jonathan Donath DC, MS and he is so excited about the results he’s been getting, he would like to share it with as many pain sufferers as possible. But There Is A Catch… There’s always a catch... isn’t there? Even though this technology has helped a majority of the patients Dr. Donath has treated… it is not a wonder cure and it does not help everyone.
On the right: healthy disc. Center: Herniated disc with soft disc material leaking out. On the left: Herniated disc material compressing or “pinching” nerve.
For that reason, Dr. Donath does a complete examination on every potential patient and only accepts you if he feels you are most likely to get the pain relief and outcome you are looking for. Dr. Donath’s Special Deal For You! Because the economy is so bad and Dr. Donath wants to help you if possible, he is offering the first 17 people who respond to this article a free consultation and NSSD qualification examination. And if you qualify for NSSD treatments, Dr. Donath will also give you one treatment for FREE! And if you do not qualify, Dr. Donath will help you find the best option for you. That’s why, if you suffer with pain from a herniated/bulging disc or sciatica you should call 914-259-8104 right now. When April answers the phone, simply tell her you would like your free non-surgical spinal decompression consultation and examination. If you are one of the first 17, she will schedule you within the next few days. If you are in a lot of pain or already scheduled for surgery, tell April and she will be sure to get you in immediately. Maybe even today.
On right: Herniated disc with spinal bones “squished” together. Center: NSSD slightly pulls the spinal bones apart, opens up the disc space and allows herniated material to move back into the disc. Left: Herniated material completely back in center of disc allows the disc to heal naturally. Your consultation and examination should take about 60 minutes. During this time you can get all of your questiones answered in a warm and friendly environment. You will know exactly what’s causing your pain and the best possible way to solve it. Dr. Donath will explain to you all your possible options along with his recomendations so you can make the best choice for YOU.
Why Limited To 17? Dr. Donath has limited the number he will accept right now to 17 because he does not believe patients should wait and they should also get the quality personal attention they deserve. When you go for your free visit, I’m sure you will see how unique and pleasant the experience is. It’s nice to be treated like a person and not a number or based on insurance coverage. It’s also nice to know exactly what’s causing your pain and how to relieve it as fast as possible. Dr. Donath’s favorite cases are the one’s that were able to cancel back surgery after only a handful of treatments. Dr. Donath also loves when a herniated disc patient that is in excruciating pain and thinks they’ve tried everything, lays down on the NSSD table, takes a 25 minute nap… and… wakes up with all their pain GONE! Just imagine how it would feel to have all your pain finally gone. Imagine going to bed and being able to sleep the entire night through… … and waking up refreshed and energized… ready to take on the brand new day – without the pain and stiffness that has been terrorizing you. And imagine finally knowing you have the solution to your herniated disc pain. Well, you may not have to just “imagine” anymore… because… NSSD might start relieving your pain… in just 25 minutes! So, if you’d like to see if you qualify and give this amazing technology a try for free… give April a call at 914-259-8104 right now. Why wait one more day in pain when the solution may be one quick phone call away? Call now before someone else gets your free spot. One More Thing It’s Important… Ever since getting this wonderful technology, Dr. Donath’s office has been flooded with calls. For that reason, if when you call, the lines are busy or you go to voice mail… just keep calling back. The possibility of living pain-free is well worth the time and effort it may take you to get through and schedule your appointment. 914-259-8104

Three Local Kids Auditioning for School of Rock – The Musical on Broadway
With the help of two Ossining businesses -- Mike Risko Music School and photographer Greg Perry, three local students are auditioning for School of Rock — The Musical, which recently opened at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway. The show is holding an open casting call for “a new wave of pint-size rockers,” offering a “once-in-a-lifetime chance to join the most famous kid band of all time.” The three local children – Jade Marie Kielb, 11 and Chris Grant, 9 both of Ossining, and Hayden Gelman, an 8th grader in Hendrick-Hudson schools, who lives in Cortlandt Manor – will be auditioning.

“The casting agency sent us the information and we were excited to send students to audition. Jade Marie, Chris and Hayden are students at Mike Risko Music School, and we’re working with them to get them ready for the audition,” said Mike Risko. “The audition process experience alone is so valuable regardless of the outcome. We will celebrate their hard work, and no matter what the outcome, they will be rock stars!” Jade Marie, Chris and Hayden, and the thousands of other children auditioning, will have to be able to sing 18 bars of a contemporary song. Mike Risko Music will be working with them on their audition materials and coaching them to be able to play

and sing at the same time, as well as helping them put together their resumes. Ossining photographer Greg Perry has provided the students with a free photo shoot and headshots for their auditions. Jade Marie studies voice, piano and she just started studying the bass for the audition. Chris studies drums and he’s doing some singing lessons to prepare him for the audition. Hayden has been performing since she was 5 years old. She’s learning the bass at Mike Risko Music to help prepare her for this audition. She’s involved in many shows and recorded a holiday song for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade last year. "This is such a great opportunity for our kids and we are so happy to have guidance from Mike Risko Music," said Chris’s mom, Stephanie Grant. “All kids should have amazing opportunities like this.” “Jade Marie has enjoyed music since she was little and seeing her audition for the School of Rock on Broadway makes us very proud parents. I definitely encourage and recommend all parents who have musically-inclined children to motivate them to participate in activities that challenge and help them grow,” said Jade’s mom, Adelina Kielb. Mike Risko Music, located at 144 Croton Avenue in Ossining, NY, is a unique and innovative performance oriented music school offering instruction on all instruments and voice in a wide range of musical styles including classical, jazz and rock. In addition to private music instruction, the school offers classes, workshops and frequent recitals that focus on developing musicianship and performance skills. The Mike Risko Music Store offers quality equipment, instruments and sheet music. Founded in 1995, Mike Risko Music has continued to grow as a part of the community, giving thousands of people the opportunity to play an instrument.

Emotional Eating is a scary topic especially for women. It’s hard to understand, but it always seems to be lurking within us. Diets usually help us deal with what we eat, but rarely with the entire story. Even when we can control eating emotionally and lose weight, it always seems to come back to us. Emotional eating is something we have taught ourselves that will bring comfort for the emotional things that we face in life. It allows us to take our minds off the pain and feel pleasure! Sounds like a great plan! In reality the feelings are temporary and come with weight gain and unhappiness. Eating Emotionally is a learned habit that can be unlearned. The best thing is take a look at your eating triggers like stress, anxiety, sadness or even happiness and excitement. The best way to combat this is to make some lifestyle changes. Tracking your triggers and developing a strategy to reduce eating patterns you should eliminate. It may be a new gym or an exercise plan to eliminate stress. This doesn’t mean anyone is perfect. A good emotional health is having the ability to experience all of your feelings, even when they are difficult and intense. It is a process that involves learning to eat for health, but keeping your favorite foods in your life in moderation! Please use this edition for some great advice from our clients! Send in your own story to info@healthcarenewspaper.com

River Cruising River cruising is one of the latest travel trends. Most of us have seen advertising for river cruising and a lot of us have a friend or acquaintance who has taken one. T here’s a good reason for this it’s a great way to experience several cities without constantly unpacking. You can enjoy the sites go by while sailing to your next destination and will have luxurious accommodations. If you too are also considering this for your next travel adventure, here are some things to know before you go. Destinations-Although they are most closely associated with cruising the Rhine and Danube rivers of Europe, there are other destinations that offer river cruising. The Douro river in Portugal, the Yangtze, Irrawaddy and Mekong Rivers of Asia, the Amazon in South America and the great Nile in Africa are several other options.
This is not the cruise you know-River cruise ships are much smaller than their oceangoing cousins. Most ships sailing the rivers have less than 200 cabins, with some in Asia with less that 50. The food is very good quality and though there are fewer choices of restaurants, there are many choices on the menu, including regional specialities. Additionally, with so many less people on board, it is easy to make a specific request to accommodate any dietary concerns. There is evening entertainment on a smaller scale. Although you won’t have as many options as a large ocean ship, such as casinos and broadway shows, you won’t have a chance to be bored since you spend so much time ashore. You also typically dock in the city and are able to take a short walk to the city center and a lot of your excursions are including in your fare.
Not all cruise lines are the same-There are many companies that offer river cruises and they are not one size fits all. Some have a lower sailing cost with more optional items to purchase later, some are allinclusive where everything, including multiple excursions, are part of the deal for no extra cost. Some ships are all suites while some have smaller cabins. Just as there are many types of travelers, there are many types of ships to suit them.
Worried about seasickness? The rivers are so smooth that you are almost guaranteed not to have an issue with this.
Deal of the Month!
Healthcare News readers will receive $100 discount on any river cruise booked before April 30, 2016.
If you have more questions about river cruising, I have two informative sessions on March 22— Darien Chocolate Works at 2:30 pm Total Wine in Norwalk at 6:30 pm There is limited seating so please rsvp at (866) 869-1760 to reserve your spot!
Special Interest Cruises-If the idea of a river cruise on its own isn’t enough of a draw, consider taking a theme cruise. The most wellknown are the Christmas Market cruises, but there are also cruises focusing on wine, beer, golf, art, music and history, including World War I and II, European History and Jewish Heritage.
People of all ages cruise the rivers-There is a misconception that only people of a certain age take these trips. The average age of a river cruiser is coming down and there are some cruises that are focusing more on family, including Disney river cruises. They are also a great option for a multigenerational vacation.

The law firm of Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, PC, achieves impressive results for clients in the areas of elder law, trusts and estates
Ely J. Rosenzveig and his son, Ariel, are proud to lead a respected elder law firm in White Plains serving families throughout the tri-state area. However, the family feel extends past father and son. The law firm of Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, P.C treats every client like family. “My dad and I are very involved in our clients’ lives, especially during difficult times,” Ariel Rosenzveig said. “We become close to them and we enjoy the relationships that we build. We value those relationships and are always attentive to our clients to help them with all of their needs. We take special pride in being there for our clients and their families through thick and thin.” Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates practices in all areas of elder law, including trust and estate planning, administration, and litigation, tax counsel, asset protection and special needs planning, Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security disability benefits, guardianships, long term care planning, Medicaid spousal recovery claims, and Medicaid lien resolutions. Father and son pride themselves on an unyielding commitment to the advocacy of their clients’ interests. Estate planning is one of the most important steps any person can take to make sure that their final property and health care wishes are honored, and that loved ones are provided for in their absence. A comprehensive estate plan can resolve a number of legal questions that arise whenever anyone dies. The firm has achieved impressive results for clients on a host of Medicaid related issues, from getting Medicaid approvals for coverage of home care and institutional care benefits, to very accommodative resolutions of Medicaid spousal recovery claims, where the office of Medicaid aggressively pursues a claim for reimbursement for Medicaid benefits provided from the non-institutionalized (i.e., or “community”) spouse.
“Our firm has a thorough understanding of Medicaid and the experience to advocate aggressively and effectively for you and your family,” said Ely Rosenzveig, who has been an attorney for nearly thirty (30) years. “It is very rewarding work and we work tirelessly for our clients.” Elder law is very important. Appropriate estate and asset-protection planning can help preserve assets, reduce taxes, and help individuals qualify for Medicaid. As you or your loved one grows older, the quality of care you receive becomes increasingly important. At some point, it becomes necessary to make plans for the future to make sure that your needs and desires are met. When this time comes, it is important to enlist the experience of Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, so the process of planning for the future is stress-free for your family. This can be critical in the process of maintaining the well-being of you or your loved one. At Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, father and son have the opportunity to help clients plan across the span of many years. Often, it leads to advising multiple generations of the family, which Ely and Ariel Rosenzveig find rewarding. Over the course of time, they help clients as their lives and needs change, from naming the guardians of their minor children in their Wills, to planning for retirement, to protecting assets when in need of a skilled nursing facility or home care. Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates builds a relationship with clients, which is built upon years of assisting them, often in difficult times in their lives, and helping them move beyond those times and provide them with peace of mind and financial security. Our firm is certainly proud to build these types of relationships with families such as yours. Attorney advertising • Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome.

The location for the 2016 meeting will be at The Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, New York. Policy and organizational direction for the Society are determined by 330 voting delegates to the Annual Meeting of the Medical Society of the State of New York. It is through this process that the membership governs the policy and administration of the Medical Society. Represented at the Annual House of Delegates are sixty county medical societies, New York State medical specialty societies, medical and osteopathic schools, district branches and the special sections of the Medical Society membership (i.e. young physicians, resident physicians, medical students). The elected leadership of MSSNY also attends the House of Delegates as voting members. The House of Delegates is the final authority on all activities of the Medical Society of the State of New York. The Annual meeting provides direction for leadership and staff and determines official positions of the organization and sets its policies.

Healthcare News - Westchester
Providing advanced, comprehensive care in comfortable setting, patient amenities and clinical trials
White Plains Hospital recently opened the door to the future of cancer care in Westchester County when it unveiled its new and expanded Center for Cancer Care. The Hospital’s Dickstein Cancer Center, constructed 17 years ago, was the first freestanding cancer center between New York City and New Haven. Since then, the Hospital has continually expanded programs and services in oncology, contributing to a legacy of outstanding cancer care in the community. The Hospital has added a six-story tower with a new entrance, lobby, amenities, and physician offices that connects to the existing Dickstein building, providing a total of 70,000 square feet for cancer care. Cancer patients now have a diverse range of services for diagnosis, treatment, clinical trials, survivorship, patient support and amenities under one roof, giving them unparalleled access to comprehensive, integrated cancer care, close to home. Conveniently located on Longview Avenue in White Plains, the expanded facility has more than doubled in size to accommodate a growing demand. Many specialty oncology offices are now onsite, and there is added space for complementary therapies such as massage, yoga, and healing touch. Amenities for both patients and families include a medical library, meditation rooms, a gift shop, a café, wig fitting services, and valet parking. The expanded Center for Cancer Care will also house offices for the Hospital’s
growing number of cancer experts who have joined White Plains Hospital since 2011. The new center also includes expansive conference space to accommodate regular tumor board conferences, where physicians from a variety of specialties meet to collaborate on the best treatment plans for each individual patient. “The new White Plains Hospital Center for Cancer Care is a clear leader in providing highly advanced and innovative care that’s also personalized, comfortable, and convenient,” said Susan Fox, President and CEO of White Plains Hospital. “Westchester residents no longer need to travel to New York City to receive comprehensive and sophisticated cancer services, with access to the resources of cutting edge academic medicine.” Mark Gordon, M.D., Chairman of the White Plains Hospital Cancer Committee and Surgical Director of the Cancer Program, added, “This expansion builds on an outstanding 20-year foundation of success with our cancer program, and helps us reach the next level in exceptional care, with new and improved facilities, additional medical talent, state of the art technology and expanded access to research, all for the benefit of the patients we serve.”
Nationally Recognized for Its Cancer Care The White Plains Hospital Cancer Program has a long history of recognition for excellence, having been repeatedly accredited by the American College of Surgeons’
Commission on Cancer (CoC) over the past two decades. The Cancer Program is also a repeated recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, and in 2012 it received accreditation as a National Breast Center by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, and was reaccredited in 2015. It also received designation as a Lung Screening Center by the American College of Radiology in 2015. For more information, visit http://www.wphospital.org.

Long Island University’s Hudson Campus offers new MBA program Healthcare News - Westchester April, 2016
PAGE 19
By Dale McKnight, Healthcare Correspondent
Taking into account the immense changes in modern life, the business world, and students’ daily needs, the School of Business at the Hudson Campus of Long Island University is revamping its Master in Business Administration (MBA) program. Designed for working adults, the program - based at the LIU Hudson graduate-school campus that’s located in Purchase, Westchester County; and in Orangeburg, Rockland County – focuses on streamlined content and enhanced academics. “It’s a highly interactive curriculum, with a lot of faceto-face learning that balances its online study component, says Kevin Nash, PhD, director of MPA and MBA Programs at the LIU Hudson Campus. Classes in the 39-credit MBA program are held evenings and on Saturdays to benefit busy working students, taught by professors who have real-world, current experience in their fields. The program also makes it possible for students to get credit for certain prior business studies. As part of its new approach, the MBA study track has also introduced a new Business Internship course. “This allows students to begin their graduate studies right after they receive their undergraduate degree, says Nash.
“It involves a 15-week supervised internship that includes businesses right here in the Hudson Valley region. MBA students can choose from study concentrations including Management, Finance, Healthcare Sector Management, or the Business of Pharmaceutics and Biotechnology. “Along with traditional finance and business management, healthcare is an area that has undergone enormous changes in recent years, and we’re helping students prepare for careers in the field, says Nash. Another option for LIU Hudson students – they can study first for advanced certificate programs in Finance or Healthcare Management, which prepare them for stepping into the full-fledged MBA program. “The redesigned MBA program is exciting and challenging, adds Nash. “Classes are small; they’re designed for about ten to twelve students, and are discussion-driven. So participation – and learning – is maximized. He adds: “Another advantage is that, even though you’re on a small campus here, you have the benefit of receiving personal attention, and you’re also part of LIU – a major institution. For more information, visit the website: liu.edu/hudson

Nutrition recommendations during and after cancer treatment
Cancer treatment often affects a person's eating habits and nutritional needs. Although it is important for people with cancer to maintain a healthy body weight and eat nutritious foods, the side effects of surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy may cause a person to eat less and lose weight. On the other hand, some treatments may cause weight gain for some patients.

Diet and nutrition during treatment
• Maintain a healthy weight. For many people, this means avoiding weight loss by getting enough calories on a daily basis. • Get essential nutrients the body needs, such as protein, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and water. • Be as active as you can, such as taking a daily walk. If you sit or sleep too much, you may lose muscle mass and increase your body fat, even if you are not gaining weight. • Dietary supplements, such as multivitamins and calcium • Liquid meal replacements and nutrient-dense beverages and snacks
Diet and nutrition after treatment
Cancer treatment often causes side effects, such as nausea, mouth sores, and taste changes that may make it difficult to eat or drink.
• If water tastes unpleasant to you, take in more liquid though items such as soup, tea, milk or milk substitutes, or a sports drink. Or, flavor your water by adding fresh cut fruit. • If food tastes bland, try seasoning it with flavorful spices such as garlic, cayenne, dill, and rosemary. • Eat several small meals throughout the day instead of trying to eat large amounts of food at one time. • If meat is no longer appealing, get protein from foods such as fish, egg whites, cheese, beans, or high protein smoothies. • Suck on mints, chew on gum, or try fresh citrus fruits if you have a metallic taste in your mouth. Brushing your teeth before eating, using plastic utensils, and cooking in glassware can also help. • If you have mouth sores or a gum infection, use a blender to make vegetables and meats smooth. Try juicing or making smoothies. courtesy of www.cancer.net

Essentially Free Long-Term Care Insurance By Andrew J. Cavaliere, CLTC
Today many people are engaged in “Medicaid Planning” with a certified elder law attorney. What does this kind of planning mean and why do they do it? In order to become eligible for Extended Medicaid coverage, an individual must not exceed their state’s minimum income & asset requirements1. This usually requires that a person transfer assets out of their estate in order to protect those assets from expensive long-term care bills. Moreover, any gifts or transfers have a 60 month look back period regarding eligibilty2.
Most people are very familiar with the “Medicaid Spend-Down” scenario and how devastating this can be to most families financially. Paying for the cost of long-term care of a loved one dollar-for-dollar is never a good option. Many families are financially ruined because of the cost of extended care. It is essential that every person carry out their estate planning advanced directives regarding long-term care services beforehand. Otherwise, expenses resulting from extended care can easily run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. So what medical bills can be counted toward a spend-down? • • • • • • • •
Your own medical bills. Your spouse’s medical bills. Parent’s bills for their children’s spend down. Bills of a child living with you. Bills of a child who does not live with you, but whose medical bills you help pay for. Past unpaid medical bills (sometimes up to 6 years old) for yourself or any of the people named above. The part of any medical bill not covered by Medicare or private insurance. Medical expenses (including insurance premiums) paid for you by certain public programs, for example, the Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Program (EPIC) and the Child Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
Despite knowing about this potentially enormous liability, many people still do not purchase long-term care insurance because they see it as too expensive. They just do not want to pay the premiums every year nor do they want to worry about those premiums increasing sometime in the future. So instead, they decide to transfer the majority of their assets out of their estate to facilitate eligibility for Medicaid benefits in five years.
Having said that, there still remains the danger of a claim during the transfer period. Often, attorneys recommend that the Medicaid Planning involve the purchase of a temporary long-term care policy with a five year benefit period in order to “bridge” the liability of the 60 month look back period as per the Deficit Reduction Omnibus Reconciliation Act 2005. Once the look back period has expired, the client can cancel their coverage and avoid paying any future premiums. This strategy however still costs money, typically $30,000 to $50,0003. And furthermore, what happens if the client dies? The following example solves this problem quite easily.
What if the client has the means to purchase a Single Premium Universal Life Insurance policy with a Long-Term Care Rider instead of the traditional LTCI policy in order to “bridge” the gap? These contracts are often referred to as “Linked” policies because during the 60 month look back period the client not only has adequate long-term care insurance, but also has a guaranteed life insurance death benefit that is higher than the original deposit.
And what if the policy can be cancelled for a 100% return of premium after the 60 month look back period with no surrender charges? Sounds too good to be true? Well, several carriers currently offer linked products with guaranteed return or premium riders4. Thus, the client can buy the insurance and keep it in force until such time as they no longer need it and their assets are fully protected. This strategy completes the entire leveraged transaction at no cost to the insured.
EXAMPLE: Jane is a 67 year old non-smoking female who purchases a single premium $150,000 Linked Universal Life Insurance policy with a Long-Term Care Rider to insure her liability while she waits for her assets to become Medicaid ineligible in 60 months. The $150,000 single premium buys her $317,943 of life insurance and $580,566 of long-term care coverage from day one. Assuming there are no claims, at the end of five years, she can surrender the contract and receive 100% of her premium back with no surrender charges. The transaction is essentially a 60 month FREE loan with some very significant tax-free insurance benefits5.

Occupational therapy helps individuals live life to the fullest Healthcare News - Westchester April, 2016
Occupational therapy enables people of all ages live life to its fullest by helping them promote health, prevent—or live better with—injury, illness, or disability. It is a practice deeply rooted in science and is evidence-based, meaning that the plan designed for each individual is supported by data, experience, and “best practices” that have been developed and proven over time. Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants focus on “doing” whatever occupations or activities are meaningful to the individual. It is occupational therapy’s purpose to get beyond problems to the solutions that assure living life to its fullest. These solutions may be adaptations for how to do a task, changes to the surroundings, or helping individuals to alter their own behaviors. When working with an occupational therapy practitioner, strategies and modifications are customized for each individual to resolve problems, improve function, and support everyday living activities. The goal is to maximize potential. Through these therapeutic approaches, occupational therapy helps individuals design their lives, develop needed skills, adjust their environments (e,g., home, school, or work) and build health-promoting habits and routines that will allow them to thrive.
By taking the full picture into account—a person’s psychological, physical, emotional, and social makeup as well as their environment—occupational therapy assists clients to do the following: • Achieve goals
• Function at the highest possible level
• Concentrate on what matters most to them • Maintain or rebuild their independence
• Participate in daily activities that they need or want to do.
Founded in 1917, the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) represents the interests and concerns of more than 140,000 occupational therapists, assistants and students nationwide. The Association educates the public and advances the profession of occupational therapy by providing resources, setting standards including accreditations and serving as an advocate to improve health care. Based in Bethesda, Md., AOTA’s major programs and activities are directed toward promoting the professional development of its members and assuring consumer access to quality services so patients can maximize their individual potential. Hospital’s $230 Million Pavilion is largest Healthcare Project in Westchester In decades Initiative made possible with financing help of County Local Development Corporation
The new building project is expected to break ground this spring, as Westchester Medical Center’s new 6,000-square-foot lobby and its new Caregiver Center for patient families are opened. Additional news available at www.westchestergov.com

The Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) unveiled plans to build a $230-million, 280,000-square-foot Ambulatory Care Pavilion adjacent to Westchester Medical Center on its Valhalla campus, which would be the largest healthcare construction project in the county in decades. The announcement was made at a meeting of the Westchester County Local Development Corporation (LDC), an agency created by Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino, which makes tax-exempt financing available to not-for-profit institutions at no risk to taxpayers. “Hospitals have long been critical to our quality of life in Westchester, but they are also a fast-growing part of our county’s economy,” said Astorino. “Today’s announcement represents a giant boost for both healthcare and the economy. This is the single biggest financing for our LDC to date and by working together with Westchester Medical Center, we are improving healthcare outcomes and creating jobs, which is a winning combination.” “Westchester Medical Center, now WMCHealth, has been an integral part of the healthcare and economic fabric of Westchester and the region for more than 100 years,” said WMCHealth President and CEO Michael D. Israel. “As the area’s leading provider of healthcare services and with a growing network of seven hospitals and a workforce of more than 10,000 people, our commitment to the region has never been stronger. “The development of an ambulatory care hub on our Valhalla campus will respond to key changes in health care delivery, while addressing a critical shortage of space as our programs and patient volume continue to grow. This project will enable us to offer outpatient services currently
provided
not available on our campus and further showcase the latest in healthcare technologies.” Israel said that the dramatic eight-story steel and glass Ambulatory Care Pavilion will include 185,000 square feet of ambulatory care service space, including an Advanced Imaging Center, Ambulatory Surgery Center and Heart and Vascular Institute, and a 20,000-square-foot private-room expansion for Westchester Medical Center, plus another 75,000 square feet for physician offices. Expected to generate 180 new full-time jobs when complete as well as 225 prevailing wage construction jobs, the WMCHealth Ambulatory Care Pavilion is believed to be one of Westchester’s largest non-residential building projects in recent memory, and the largest healthcare project since Westchester Medical Center’s 400,000-square-foot main tower was built in 1977 and its 250,000-square-foot Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital was built in 2004. “This is just another example of the significant investments that WMCHealth is making to further its mission of providing the finest care as close to home for the adults and children of our region,” said Mitchell Hochberg, Chair of the network’s Board of Directors. “A project of this scale reflects continued investment in the health of Westchester County and the Hudson Valley both in the form of healthcare resources, services and economic development.” Israel said that WMCHealth was proud to partner with County Executive Astorino and the LDC on collaborating on a project of this importance. “By the time WMCHealth’s Ambulatory Care Pavilion cares for its first patients in 2018, we will have invested nearly $1 billion in infrastructure, technology, renovation and expansion on the Valhalla campus alone, in just over a decade,” Israel added.

What do doctors do to treat their own pain? PAGE 30
April, 2016
Healthcare News - Westchester
As a board-certified internist who has been in practice for over 13 years, I spend much of my time attempting to alleviate the pain and suffering of my patients. As a clinician, one of the biggest challenges I face is helping my patients deal with musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes—those all-too-common, yet frequently debilitating ailments caused by bad backs, pinched nerves, arthritis, and the like. Unfortunately, much of what I have to offer my patients boils down to the following: take a pain pill, stretch if you can, wait, and hope for the best. After a failed trial of “conservative” therapy a call might go out to the orthopedic surgeon for assistance; a truly satisfactory result is not common. The simple fact is that physicians are not well trained to deal with musculoskeletal pain, and patients can suffer as a result. Thankfully, my views on this topic have been turned completely upside down since I havepersonally discovered Dr. Jonathan Donath’s outstanding practice. After beginning a vigorous exercise regimen I started to experience awful neck and upper back pain, accompanied by numbness and tingling down my left arm and fingers. For weeks I tried to nurse the pain with non steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, but the pain persisted and got to the point that I was almost unable to work, sleep, or most importantly, play guitar. I wasliterally in tears from the excruciating pain. A neurosurgeon diagnosed a herniated disc and pinched nerve in my neck and offered to decompress it with an operation. In desperation I called Dr. Donath instead. My visit to Dr. Donath’s office was an outstanding experience. He spent about an hour with me and combined multiple modalities to fix the herniated disc in my neck: deep massage, active release techniques, traditional manipulation, cold therapy, and finally spinal decompression. After that first hour with Dr. Donath my pain had decreased from a 10/10 down to a manageable 4/10, and I was able to comfortably move my head and neck. That very night I was able to play guitar again. Two days later I went back for another series of treatments and the pain decreased even further. After about five days the pain was absolutely gone. Unbelievable! Since then he has used the same wonderful techniques to help me overcome painful bouts of sciatica as well. My own patients and family members have become “believers” in Dr. Donath’s abilities as well--- the results he achieves are real and lasting. He is my go to guy for the majority of musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes that I now realize are truly treatable. Dr. Robert Sidlow MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine
I am a pediatrician and in my work, I have to bend down a lot and I’m constantly lifting kids. I usually have one to three bad flare ups of low back pain every year. When my back would "go out", I could barely walk to the bathroom and would have to lie down in bed for a few days. I have tried everything: doing nothing and "toughing it out", muscle relaxants, physical therapy, chiropractic, therapeutic massage, and even painful steroid injections. Nothing worked. When I moved to Westchester, I met Dr. Jonathan Donath. In just a couple of sessions with Dr. Donath, the pain completely disappeared. If it hadn't happened to me, I wouldn't have believed it. During my last flare up, I was expecting to be on my back for 2-3 days and in pain for 2 weeks. Instead, after one session with Dr. Donath, I was able to walk; two more sessions and I was fine. I could walk, bend down and I had almost no pain. Since that last back episode, Dr. Donath has helped me with my tendonitis in my right hand and with my chronic knee problems. I recommend Dr. Donath to everyone with back, muscle or joint pain. Even if you have not had relief with other treatments and other Chiropractors, give Dr. Donath a chance. I did and he changed my life. Eugene Dinkevich MD, Mount Vernon, NY It’s my great pleasure to write about Westchester Spinal Decompression Center. I really don’t have words to express my feelings about the care I got in last 3 months. I was almost handicapped, living with terrible pain all the time, crippling my day to day life. I am a medical doctor and work in a hospital with all sorts of amazing physicians, but after seeing a physical therapist, getting epidural steroids injections, many orthopedists and neurosurgeons, finally my destination lead me to see Dr Jonathan Donath. With great skepticism, I lied down for spinal decompression therapy. It was unbelievable that after only two initial sessions, my radiating pain down my leg had almost disappeared. Gradually, I started getting better, started doing exercises that they gave me midway through the treatment. Now, I am doing all my daily activities without any pain. I highly recommend Dr Jonathan and his colleague Dr Kavita for any problems related to the musculoskeletal system, you will definitely feel at home and will get better.
