“Back Pain Technology Cheats Mother Nature
After helping hundreds of Westchester County herniated disc sufferers eliminate their pain, Local Doctor explains how…
Helps Herniated Discs Heal Naturally… In As Little As 25 Minutes!”
At Last! Westchester County Doctor Offers Technology That Doesn’t Just End SEVERE Pain From Herniated Discs, But Helps Your Body To Start Rebuilding Them… As Fast As Humanly Possible! Best Part: You can check it all out for FREE if you like! There is no doubt… technology has made all of our lives better… and easier. Just about every miraculous medical cure and comfort of modern living can be attributed to amazing breakthroughs in technology. Heck, laser eye surgery can give people who are almost as blind as a bat perfect 20/20 vision. How amazing is that? That’s why it’s no surprise that technology might be able to solve your back and neck pain from herniated/bulging discs or sciatica…for good. Here is why: Back and neck pain can be devastating. And nothing is worse than going to doctor after doctor… trying treatment after treatment… spending money you can’t afford… and still suffering in pain. That’s why… I bet you would love to instantly end your pain… without any risk what-soever… and have it never come back for the rest of your life? Well, that might NOT be so easy. But, what if there was a wonderful advancement in technology that, with a handful of simple, non-invasive treatments, could possibly have you out of pain and on your way to healing naturally? Better yet, what if this technology could possibly heal your herniated/bulging discs (instead of cutting it out like surgery) so you have the best chance to live pain-free and do all the things you want and love to do? And what if this technology was: • FDA cleared! • Proven safe and effective! • Allows your herniated discs to heal naturally without the risky and dangerous side effects of surgery! • Relieves pain fast… in some cases in as little as 25 minutes! Well, guess what? There is such technology and there is a very good chance it can help you… like it has already helps thousands of herniated/bulging disc and sciatica sufferers all around the country… No Matter How Bad Your Pain Is, How Long You’ve Been Suffering Or How Many Other Treatments And Doctors Have Failed You! Don’t laugh. It’s really true. Here’s proof…
When you have a herniated disc, compressive forces cause your spinal bones to come together… basically squashing your disc. The space in between your bones decreases and the soft, jello-like disc material leaks out. This disc material that leaks out is called a herniated disc and can cause severe pain, numbness and tingling in your neck, back, arms or legs when the herniation pushes into and “pinches” a nerve. So it makes sense, if you could slightly pull the spinal bones apart… that would open up the space, take the pressure off the disc, the disc off the nerve and solve the problem. Right? But the only problem is… how do you do that? For years and years, doctors have been trying to do it with traction. But traction has been proven ineffective and often very painful. Why? Traction doesn’t work because when you have a herniated or bulging disc, the area is injured and when you try to move, your muscles go into spasm. Spasm is your body’s way of trying to protect you from causing further injury. That’s why traction hurts so much. As soon as the traction starts… your muscles overprotect the area and spasm. But the good news is: Now there is technology that out-smarts your body’s natural spasm reaction. In other words: It fools mother nature! This technology is called non-surgical spinal decompression (NSSD) and here’s how it works… NSSD is very different from plain traction because it has advanced computer technology that actually senses your spinal muscles. When it starts to gently pull, it immediately knows when your muscles start to contract and it stops pulling. As soon as your muscles relax, it starts pulling again. The amazing thing is: the computer senses your muscles contraction so early… you don’t even feel what is going on. Which means you never feel any pain! In fact, the only thing most patients feel is… RELIEF!!! But the best part is: NSSD is able to gently separate your spinal bones which, in many cases, actually sucks the herniated disc material back into the disc where it belongs! This takes away your pain and allows your herniated and bulging discs to heal naturally!
And check this out: Treatments are pleasant and simple. All you have to do is lie on your back, listen to your favorite music, read a magazine… or… take a nap! The wonderful technology does everything while you simply RELAX the pain away! To sum up NSSD: • For most patients it is 100% painless… in fact many patients actually fall asleep during treatment! • Works fast! Most patients get relief after a handful of treatments – some after the very first! • Is non-invasive so it does not have the dangerous risks of surgery! • Gets to the root cause of the problem and helps it heal naturally! Isn’t modern technology wonderful? And wouldn’t you like to… Give This Great Technology A Try… For Free? If you would, there’s great news. There is a Doctor located at 222 Westchester Ave. Suite 405 in White Plains who has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in this wonderful technology and has been treating herniated/bulging disc and sciatica patients with incredible success. His name is Dr. Jonathan Donath DC, MS and he is so excited about the results he’s been getting, he would like to share it with as many pain sufferers as possible. But There Is A Catch… There’s always a catch... isn’t there? Even though this technology has helped a majority of the patients Dr. Donath has treated… it is not a wonder cure and it does not help everyone.
On the right: healthy disc. Center: Herniated disc with soft disc material leaking out. On the left: Herniated disc material compressing or “pinching” nerve.
For that reason, Dr. Donath does a complete examination on every potential patient and only accepts you if he feels you are most likely to get the pain relief and outcome you are looking for. Dr. Donath’s Special Deal For You! Because the economy is so bad and Dr. Donath wants to help you if possible, he is offering the first 17 people who respond to this article a free consultation and NSSD qualification examination. And if you qualify for NSSD treatments, Dr. Donath will also give you one treatment for FREE! And if you do not qualify, Dr. Donath will help you find the best option for you. That’s why, if you suffer with pain from a herniated/bulging disc or sciatica you should call 914-259-8104 right now. When April answers the phone, simply tell her you would like your free non-surgical spinal decompression consultation and examination. If you are one of the first 17, she will schedule you within the next few days. If you are in a lot of pain or already scheduled for surgery, tell April and she will be sure to get you in immediately. Maybe even today.
On right: Herniated disc with spinal bones “squished” together. Center: NSSD slightly pulls the spinal bones apart, opens up the disc space and allows herniated material to move back into the disc. Left: Herniated material completely back in center of disc allows the disc to heal naturally. Your consultation and examination should take about 60 minutes. During this time you can get all of your questiones answered in a warm and friendly environment. You will know exactly what’s causing your pain and the best possible way to solve it. Dr. Donath will explain to you all your possible options along with his recomendations so you can make the best choice for YOU.
Why Limited To 17? Dr. Donath has limited the number he will accept right now to 17 because he does not believe patients should wait and they should also get the quality personal attention they deserve. When you go for your free visit, I’m sure you will see how unique and pleasant the experience is. It’s nice to be treated like a person and not a number or based on insurance coverage. It’s also nice to know exactly what’s causing your pain and how to relieve it as fast as possible. Dr. Donath’s favorite cases are the one’s that were able to cancel back surgery after only a handful of treatments. Dr. Donath also loves when a herniated disc patient that is in excruciating pain and thinks they’ve tried everything, lays down on the NSSD table, takes a 25 minute nap… and… wakes up with all their pain GONE! Just imagine how it would feel to have all your pain finally gone. Imagine going to bed and being able to sleep the entire night through… … and waking up refreshed and energized… ready to take on the brand new day – without the pain and stiffness that has been terrorizing you. And imagine finally knowing you have the solution to your herniated disc pain. Well, you may not have to just “imagine” anymore… because… NSSD might start relieving your pain… in just 25 minutes! So, if you’d like to see if you qualify and give this amazing technology a try for free… give April a call at 914-259-8104 right now. Why wait one more day in pain when the solution may be one quick phone call away? Call now before someone else gets your free spot. One More Thing It’s Important… Ever since getting this wonderful technology, Dr. Donath’s office has been flooded with calls. For that reason, if when you call, the lines are busy or you go to voice mail… just keep calling back. The possibility of living pain-free is well worth the time and effort it may take you to get through and schedule your appointment. 914-259-8104

Silent Health Crisis
June is Men’s Health Month and communities across the country and around the globe are joining Men’s Health Network in celebrating this special awareness period. The goal of Men’s Health Month is to encourage men and boys to take care of their health and to heighten the public’s awareness of the many preventable health problems that affect them and their families. “These efforts reach men where they live, work, play, and pray,” said Ana Fadich, Vice President of Men’s Health Network, which organizes Men’s Heath Month events nationwide. “They’re a great way for healthcare providers, policy makers, the media, and individuals to educate men, their families, and the public on a wide range of men’s health issues, including cancers, hypogonadism, cardiovascular problems, sexual and mental health concerns.” During Men’s Health Month, health care professionals, private corporations, faith-based and fraternal organizations, government
agencies, and other interested organization plan activities and events which focus on the health and well-being of men and boys. “As a urologist, prostate specialist and Men’s Health Network advocate, I feel this is a critical time to encourage men and their families to focus on Men’s Health,” said Judd W. Moul, MD, Professor and Director, Duke Prostate Cancer, Durham, NC, and Advisor to Men’s Health Network. “Many men do not like to go to the doctor and do not like to think about their own health. This is one time a year when we can get the word out that men need to take time for themselves, to think about their health, and take action to improve their health!" “Men's Health is more than just physical health,” stated Sankineni J. Rao, MD, George Washington - Medical Faculty Associates, and Advisor to Men’s Health Network. “In addition to regular check-ups, it also involves mental and spiritual awareness, and addressing socioeconomic barriers.
“There is a silent health crisis in America... it’s that fact that, on average, American men live sicker and die younger than American women.” Dr. David Gremillion Men’s Health Network

Phelps Memorial Hospital Center’s Cancer Program earns three-year accreditation with commendation from Commission on Cancer PAGE 8
Phelps Memorial Hospital Center has again been granted a three-year accreditation with commendation as a Community Hospital Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer (CoC). Initial accreditation was earned in the 2013 cycle. To be accredited, a hospital must have an oversight body that meets quarterly, hold multidisciplinary tumor board cancer conferences that meet regularly to review existing cancer cases, have quality improvement measures in place, and participate in community outreach. Avraham Merav, MD, FACS, Chief of Thoracic Surgery and Medical Director of Surgical Services at Phelps, is the Cancer Liaison Physician responsible for providing leadership for Phelps’ cancer program and spearheading cancer-related activities. Having a Cancer Liaison Physician is another of the Commission’s requirements for cancer programs to be accredited. “Accreditation by the Commission on Cancer is much more than just a badge of honor,” says Dr. Merav. “Achieving and maintaining accreditation assures our patients that Phelps meets all up-to-date national standards of cancer care.” The CoC accreditation program helps facilities improve quality of patient care through various cancer-related programs focusing on the full spectrum of cancer care. These include prevention, early diagnosis, cancer staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, life-long follow up for recurrent disease, and end-of-life care. Patients who receive care at a CoC facility have access to information on clinical trials and new treatments, genetic counseling and patient-centered services including psycho-social support, a patient navigation process, and

a survivorship care plan that documents each patient’s care and seeks to improve cancer survivors’ quality of life. Like all CoC-accredited facilities, Phelps maintains a cancer registry and contributes data to the National Cancer Data Base, a joint program of the CoC and the American Cancer Society and the largest clinical disease registry in the world. Data on all types of cancer is tracked and analyzed through this dababase and then used to explore trends in cancer care and to create national, regional and state benchmark reports. CoC-accredited cancer programs have access to information derived
from these reports, which helps the facilities with their quality improvement efforts. Leadership of Phelps’ cancer program is provided by the multidisciplinary Cancer Committee made up of physicians from diagnostic and treatment specialties and non-physicians from administrative and supportive services. The 20 members of the committee, who represent the full scope of cancer care and services, meet quarterly to ensure that the hospital’s cancer program meets all of the standards set by the CoC. In remarks to staff at Phelps regarding the accreditation, Dr. Merav explained that although establishing an accredited cancer
program was a team effort, he specifically wanted to “recognize former Cancer Program Coordinator Cherian Mathew, CTR, who was instrumental in obtaining this accreditation.” One of the main requirements for accreditation is the Tumor Board Conference, a multidisciplinary conference that meets regularly to present and discuss treatment of current cases of cancer. Since April 2010, the Tumor Board has met more than 100 times to review more than 350 cases. For more information about cancer treatment at Phelps, contact Dr. Avraham Merav at 914-366-2333.

Leveraging your Life Insurance Policy to Pay for LTC costs By Andrew J. Cavaliere, CLTC
Given the recent rate increases by many of the Long-Term Care insurers in the first part of 2016, it is easy to understand why many people today are skeptical about buying a non-guaranteed premium product. Most people just do not want to worry about a 50% rate increase just around the corner. But not buying any coverage presents a huge problem for the entire extended family as mom & dad grow older with no real protection and the threat of catastrophic medical expenses due to chronic illness looming over their heads.
One solution to this problem is to leverage an existing life insurance policy that mom & dad currently own. Accelerating the living benefits from the existing life insurance policy while the owner is still alive can help the family to pay for long-term care expenses. Instead of surrendering the policy for cash or allowing a policy to lapse, the owner can convert the policy into a “Long-Term Care Benefit Plan”. What does converting a policy mean? It means the policy is sold as a “Life Settlement” for a percentage of the death benefit and the funds are placed in a protected Benefit Account. Monthly payments for long term care services are deducted directly from the benefit account and are tax-free.
Life insurance is legally recognized as an asset and the owner’s property rights are guaranteed by a 100 year old Supreme Court decision. The “Long-Term Care Benefit Plan” is a unique financial option for seniors because all health conditions are accepted, and there are no waiting periods, no care limitations, no costs to apply, no requirement to be terminally ill, no premium payments and no loan to pay back.
A s k A n
What is a Life Settlement?
An important step in converting a life insurance policy into a long-term care benefit is a transaction called a Life Settlement or Viatical Settlement. A Life or Viatical Settlement is the sale of an existing life insurance policy to a third party for more than its cash surrender value, but less than its net death benefit. In exchange for paying the purchase price to the seller as well as assuming responsibility for future premiums, the buyer will receive the full death benefit when the original insured dies.
Most states regulate life and viatical settlement transactions and many of the specific regulations in place are intended to protect individuals that are selling their insurance policies. For example, in most states, the seller of an insurance policy through a life settlement can cancel the transaction by returning the purchase price within 15 days of receipt. More than 40 states have regulations in place regarding the sale of life insurance policies to third parties. What is the difference between a Life Settlement and a Viatical Settlement?
Often times, the terms “Life Settlement” and “Viatical Settlement” are used interchangeably. However, some state regulations use the term Viatical Settlement to refer to cases where the person covered by the insurance policy is terminally ill or has a shorter expected life span (e.g., less than two years). For those states which make the distinction, Viatical Settlement transactions may be subject to additional regulatory requirements (e.g. minimum pricing relative to the death benefit).
What is a Provider?
Life Settlement Providers are private companies that are licensed by state governments to serve as the purchaser in a life settlement transaction. Providers are responsible for ensuring that each transaction complies with applicable regulations. The top Providers in the industry fund many transactions each year and have in-house compliance departments to carefully review transactions. The standard forms used by a Provider for transactions in a particular state are usually subject to review and approval by the regulators in that state. For more information about Life Settlements and Long-Term care Insurance please call Andrew J. Cavaliere, CLTC at 914682-2190 or toll free 877-676-9900. Andrew is certified in Long-Term Care (CLTC) from the Corporation for Long-Term Care Certification, Inc. Andrew is a member in good standing of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), the premier Association of financial professionals nationally. Andrew’s offices are located at 50 Main Street, White Plains, NY 10606 and at 500 West Putnam, Greenwich CT 06831.

The law firm of Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, PC, achieves impressive results for clients in the areas of elder law, trusts and estates
Ely J. Rosenzveig and his son, Ariel, are proud to lead a respected elder law firm in White Plains serving families throughout the tri-state area. However, the family feel extends past father and son. The law firm of Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, P.C treats every client like family. “My dad and I are very involved in our clients’ lives, especially during difficult times,” Ariel Rosenzveig said. “We become close to them and we enjoy the relationships that we build. We value those relationships and are always attentive to our clients to help them with all of their needs. We take special pride in being there for our clients and their families through thick and thin.” Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates practices in all areas of elder law, including trust and estate planning, administration, and litigation, tax counsel, asset protection and special needs planning, Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security disability benefits, guardianships, long term care planning, Medicaid spousal recovery claims, and Medicaid lien resolutions. Father and son pride themselves on an unyielding commitment to the advocacy of their clients’ interests. Estate planning is one of the most important steps any person can take to make sure that their final property and health care wishes are honored, and that loved ones are provided for in their absence. A comprehensive estate plan can resolve a number of legal questions that arise whenever anyone dies. The firm has achieved impressive results for clients on a host of Medicaid related issues, from getting Medicaid approvals for coverage of home care and institutional care benefits, to very accommodative resolutions of Medicaid spousal recovery claims, where the office of Medicaid aggressively pursues a claim for reimbursement for Medicaid benefits provided from the non-institutionalized (i.e., or “community”) spouse.
“Our firm has a thorough understanding of Medicaid and the experience to advocate aggressively and effectively for you and your family,” said Ely Rosenzveig, who has been an attorney for nearly thirty (30) years. “It is very rewarding work and we work tirelessly for our clients.” Elder law is very important. Appropriate estate and asset-protection planning can help preserve assets, reduce taxes, and help individuals qualify for Medicaid. As you or your loved one grows older, the quality of care you receive becomes increasingly important. At some point, it becomes necessary to make plans for the future to make sure that your needs and desires are met. When this time comes, it is important to enlist the experience of Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, so the process of planning for the future is stress-free for your family. This can be critical in the process of maintaining the well-being of you or your loved one. At Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, father and son have the opportunity to help clients plan across the span of many years. Often, it leads to advising multiple generations of the family, which Ely and Ariel Rosenzveig find rewarding. Over the course of time, they help clients as their lives and needs change, from naming the guardians of their minor children in their Wills, to planning for retirement, to protecting assets when in need of a skilled nursing facility or home care. Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates builds a relationship with clients, which is built upon years of assisting them, often in difficult times in their lives, and helping them move beyond those times and provide them with peace of mind and financial security. Our firm is certainly proud to build these types of relationships with families such as yours. Attorney advertising • Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome.
NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital recognized for its Award-Winning Care Healthcare News - Westchester June, 2016
NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital successfully completed its reaccreditation survey to once again earn The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for its Joint Replacement Program by demonstrating compliance with the Commission’s national standards for health, care, quality and safety. The certification recognizes the hospital’s commitment to The Joint Commission’s rigorous standards. In order to qualify and obtain the certification, the hospital underwent a laborious on-site review. A Joint Commission expert evaluated NYP/Lawrence Hospital for complying with their standards of care specific to the needs of patients and families, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management. “The Joint Commission recertification is a clear indicator of our team’s commitment to providing the highest quality care to our patients,” says Maureen Kirk, RN, MBA and Director of Perioperative Services at NYP/Lawrence. Kirk helped lead the multi-disciplinary team of surgeons, nurses, physical therapists, dietitians and other support staff who worked together to not only meet, but to exceed, the Joint Commission’s high standards of care. Adds Kirk, “We have made tremendous strides in reducing the need for blood transfusions; limiting pain after surgery; and educating our patients about the surgical and recovery process before they ever see an operating room. We’re very proud of this achievement and what it means to our hospital and the communities we serve.” NYP/Lawrence Hospital was also recognized when one of its orthopedic surgeons, William Macaulay, MD, Director of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, was recently inducted into The Knee Society at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL. Macaulay focuses on the latest minimally invasive, bone preserving and recuperation enhancing trends in both hip and knee replacement surgery. Founded in 1993, the society is one of the most prestigious and influential orthopedic organizations in the country. Men’s Health
Ah, finally, summer is almost here.
And you know what the means. The man in your life will be eager to get outside and mow the lawn, tend to your garden and address fix ‘em up projects. Yeah, right. But we will give him this: Your man will be eager to get in front of the barbecue and flip a few steaks, while enjoying a cold beverage. Summer is a great time to have fun, whether it means taking a vacation, or amping up your fitness program. It’s also a time for men to pay attention to their health and safety. Below are Healthcare News’ tips to help you stay safe and healthy this summer and all year long.
Be prepared Take steps to prepare yourself and your family for severe weather and natural disasters before they happen. Learn how to cope and recover when disaster strikes. Tips Make an emergency plan and stock supplies ahead of time. Review your options.
Learn about your community's emergency plans, warning signals, evacuation routes, and locations of emergency shelters. Identify potential home hazards, and know how to secure or protect them before a disaster strikes. Know beforehand what common reactions may occur to help your ability to cope. Accept your own reactions and those of people around you. Locate and secure your important papers, including insurance policies, wills, licenses, passports, and birth certificates.
Stay physically active The summer is a great time to play outdoor games, garden, or walk. Start a new routine that combines fun and physical activity. Active people are less likely than inactive people to be obese or to have high blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis, coronary artery disease and stroke, depression, colon cancer, premature death. Tips Adults should get 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity daily. Children and adolescents should participate in at least 60 minutes of moderateintensity physical activity daily. Start at an easy pace and increase time and distance gradually. Don't overdo it. Prevent injuries.
Stay cool Sun protection is important all year round, not just during the summer or at the beach. Take steps to help prevent skin cancer and other conditions. Heat-related deaths and illness are preventable, yet many people succumb to extreme heat each year.
Lower your risk for heat-related illness.
Tips When possible, avoid outdoor activities during midday, when the sun's rays are strongest. Cover up with clothing and a wide-brimmed hat to protect exposed skin. Drink plenty of cool, non-alcoholic fluids.Seek shade. Wear sunscreen and lip screen with a sun protective factor (SPF) of 15 or higher.
Watch the water According to several studies, males are three times more likely than females to die from unintentional drownings in the United States. Alcohol use is involved in up to half of adolescent and adult deaths associated with water recreation.
Tips: Learn how to swim. Never swim alone.
Wear your life jacket while boating. Avoid alcoholic beverages while boating. Watch children in and around water. If you have a swimming pool at your home, install a four-sided isolation pool fence.
Eat healthy Whether you plan to grill on the patio or picnic in the park, be sure to eat balanced meals with fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables have important vitamins, minerals, and fiber that may protect you from some chronic diseases. Foodborne disease is caused by consuming contaminated foods or beverages. An estimated 76 million cases of foodborne disease occur each year in the United States. Most of these cases are mild and cause symptoms for a day or two, but some cases are more serious and require hospitalization. Tips: Eat plenty fruits and vegetables daily. Wash your hands before eating or preparing food. Cook all foods to the proper temperatures. Refrigerate foods promptly. Handle and prepare food safely.
Migraine consequences affect all family members PAGE 15
Healthcare News - Westchester June, 2016
The debilitating pain and disability of migraine also attacks the emotional, social and financial fabric of a family, according to a new study conducted by researchers at Montefiore Headache Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, affiliated with the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Vedanta Research, the Mayo Clinic and Allergan plc. The findings were published today in Volume 91, Issue 5 of Mayo Clinic Proceedings. The Chronic Migraine Epidemiology and Outcomes (CaMEO) Study surveyed 4,022 people with migraine as well as their spouses or domestic partners to gain a full picture of the effect of migraine on the family. Approximately 41% of people with migraine and 23% of spouses stated that they believed those impacted by migraine would be better parents if they did not have migraine, which consequently led to half of migraineurs missing at least one family activity in the past month. Approximately onethird of people with migraine and 21% of their spouses/partners endorsed worries about long-term financial security for their family due to migraine. Perceived burden was the greatest among people with chronic migraine (migraine with headache on 15 or more days per month) and among those with more frequent attacks. “This study highlights the significant burden that migraine can have on a wide range of family activities, parenting responsibilities, spousal relationships and family finances,” said study lead author Dawn C. Buse, Ph.D., director of Behavioral Medicine, Montefiore Headache Center and associate professor of neurology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. “Respondents with migraine and their partners noted a great deal of emotional distress related to how this condition affects their family member including guilt, worry and sadness.
These findings underscore the challenges and negative impact that people with migraine and their family members’ experience.” The CaMEO Study is a U.S. web-panel study that gathered information on the perceived impact of migraine—episodic or chronic-- on people with migraine, their partners and their children by surveying each of the three types of respondents from September 2012 to November 2013. As the study authors point out, an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment are essential to reducing the overall burden of migraine. “The consequences of migraine can be devastating and farreaching for people with migraine and their families,” said Richard B. Lipton, M.D., director of Montefiore Headache Center and vice chair of neurology, and the Edwin S. Lowe Chair in Neurology, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. “As a next step, we are analyzing responses from the children of those with migraine, who are 13 and older. We are also developing the “Impact of Migraine on Partners and Children Scale (IMPACS)” to help quantify the family burden of migraine. We hope that improved diagnosis, treatment and enhanced recognition of the burden associated with migraine leads to better outcomes for all family members,” concluded Dr. Lipton, who is the study Primary Investigator. Additional study authors include Ann I. Scher, Ph.D., Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, David W. Dodick, M.D., Mayo Clinic in Phoenix Arizona, Michael L. Reed, Ph.D., Vedanta Research, Kristina M. Fanning, Ph.D., Vedanta Research, Aubrey Manack Adams, Ph.D., Allergan plc and Richard B. Lipton, M.D., Montefiore/Einstein. Funding for the Chronic Migraine Epidemiology and Outcomes (CaMEO) study was provided by Allergan plc.
New findings validate profound effect on relationships, parenting and financial security

Skin care: 5 tips for healthy skin
Good skin care — including sun protection and gentle cleansing — can keep your skin healthy and glowing for years to come.
Don’t have time for intensive skin care? You can still pamper yourself by acing the basics. Good skin care and healthy lifestyle choices can help delay the natural aging process and prevent various skin problems. Get started with these five nononsense tips. 1. Protect yourself from the sun One of the most important ways to take care of your skin is to protect it from the sun. A lifetime of sun exposure can cause wrinkles, age spots and other skin problems — as well as increase the risk of skin cancer.
For the most complete sun protection: • Use sunscreen. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. Apply sunscreen generously, and reapply every two hours — or more often if you're swimming or perspiring. • Seek shade. Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when the sun's rays are strongest. • Wear protective clothing. Cover your skin with longsleeved shirts, long pants and wide-brimmed hats.
2. Don't smoke Smoking makes your skin look older and contributes to wrinkles. Smoking narrows the tiny blood vessels in the outermost layers of skin, which decreases blood flow. This depletes the skin of oxygen and nutrients that are important to skin health. 3. Treat your skin gently Daily cleansing and shaving can take a toll on your skin. • Limit bath time. Hot water and long showers or baths remove oils from your skin. Limit your bath or shower time, and use warm — rather than hot — water. • Avoid strong soaps. Strong soaps and detergents can strip oil from your skin. Instead, choose mild cleansers. • Shave carefully. To protect and lubricate your skin, apply shaving cream, lotion or gel before shaving. Shave in the direction the hair grows, not against it. • Pat dry. After washing or bathing, gently pat or blot your skin dry with a towel so that some moisture remains on your skin. If your skin is dry, use a moisturizer that fits your skin type. Source: Mayo Clinic Staff
4. Eat a healthy diet A healthy diet can help you look and feel your best. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. The association between diet and acne isn't clear — but some research suggests that a diet rich in vitamin C and low in unhealthy fats and processed or refined carbohydrates might promote younger looking skin.
5. Manage stress Uncontrolled stress can make your skin more sensitive and trigger acne breakouts and other skin problems. To encourage healthy skin — and a healthy state of mind — take steps to manage your stress. Set reasonable limits, scale back your to-do list and make time to do the things you enjoy. The results might be more dramatic than you expect.

Hernias: A Common Ailment
According to the National Center for Health Statistics, some five million Americans have a hernia. Yet, only about 750,000 Americans seek treatment each year. The balance do not because they perceive surgery, the only way to treat a hernia, to be an inconvenience to their daily lifestyle and those around them. Others perceive surgery to be a major invasive procedure that requires an extended hospital stay, followed by a long and painful period of recovery. Fortunately for patients and their physicians, there are a variety of safe, simple and quick surgical procedures that can eliminate these worries in some patients and have them back to their daily activities in very little time. Hernia repairs are common, and routine surgical procedures, tools and technologies have evolved accordingly. These days, many hernia repairs are typically performed: • in an outpatient setting at a hospital or at an ambulatory surgery center • using local or epidural anesthesia instead of general anesthesia • through one small incision • within 45 minutes • without the need for pain medication • with patients going home a few hours after surgery • with patients returning to normal activities within a few days
Discover the Facts A hernia can be uncomfortable, unsightly, painful and even cause life threatening complications. Don't let a hernia restrict you and keep you from the activities you enjoy. Take a few minutes here and learn more about hernias and their treatment. Then, be sure to see your physician for an evaluation to help safeguard your health and comfort.

Recent advances in Cosmetic Surgery
One of the most exciting, recent advances in cosmetic surgery has been the use of the endoscope infacial rejuvenation. An endoscope is a small camera which can be inserted through a tiny cut in the skin and which transmits an image of the underlying tissues to a T.V. Screen. Many people are familiar with endoscopy as it is applied by orthopedic surgeons to treat cartilage damage in joints (arthroscopy) and by gynecologists to examine pelvic organs (laparoscopy). This relatively old technology has now been applied to cosmetic surgery. Plastic surgeons are now able to perform brow lifts through several tiny incisions in the scalp. Until recently, the only way a brow lift could be performed was with an “ear to ear” incision. Even more exciting is that plastic surgeons are now performing face lifts through the endoscope. In those patients whose complaints are of mid face and jowl sagging rather than skin excess, a face lift can be performed through several small incisions in the scalp and lower eyelids. The best candidates for this procedure are those patients in their 30s and 40s with good skin tone. Recovery time is somewhat longer than with traditional facelifts due to swelling that persists for several weeks. However, these procedures have allowed the treatment of the aging face to extend to much younger patients with improved long term results. Just as the endoscope has revolutionized facial rejuvenation, so too has the tumescent technique of liposuction changed how plastic surgeons reduce adipose fat tissue in all areas of the body. With tumescent liposuction, a surgeon distends the fat and soft tissues with local anesthesia, adrenaline, and salt water. By doing so, blood loss has been shown to be dramatically reduced as compared to more traditional technique of liposuction, far more fat can be safely aspirated at one sitting, frequently without the necessity of hospitalization or even general anesthesia. Currently, experimental procedures involving ultrasound and liposuction are being perfected which will hopefully improve techniques further. Regardless of the technique, liposuction is still not a treatment for generalized obesity, but rather for treatment of localized fat excess and disproportion. A very commonly asked question of plastic surgeons is “will you be using a laser to perform my operation?” Due to

widespread media coverage, lasers are now thought of by many lay people as the best way for surgeons to cut tissue during surgery. While lasers represent new and exciting technology, this notion is an unfortunate misconception. For most operations, traditional cutting methods provide better control for the surgeon and more precise and smaller scars. Where, then, do lasers play a role? One of the new and interesting uses of lasers is in skin resurfacing. Specifically, carbon dioxide lasers, pulsed at very high frequencies are now being used by some plastic surgeons instead of dermabrasion. By using such a laser, fine wrinkles around the mouth and eyelids can be markedly reduced with reportedly less tissue destruction than seen with traditional dermabrasion techniques. Removal of tattoos is another use of lasers, Different laser types are needed for various colors found in the average tattoo. Several surgical settings are frequently needed to eliminate a tattoo completely. Scarring tends to be less than with either direct surgical excision or dermabrasion. Lasers can also be used to treat red, vascular lesions such as port wine stains. Lifelong lesions can be dramatically reduced using laser surgery in a painless, outpatient setting. Finally, lasers can be utilized to reduce age spots on hands and other locations on the body, so that a newly “lifted face” can have youthful hands to match. Who says that youth has to be wasted on the young? Along with advances in cosmetic surgical techniques, have come improvements in plastic surgeons' abilities to communicate with their patients. One tool for aiding in such communication has been new computer hardware and software that allows a physician to photograph a patient and modify their image on the computer screen. By doing so, a surgeon can show a patient an image of a reasonable outcome of a cosmetic procedure. It also gives a patient the opportunity to show a doctor what they like and dislike about their current features or about the proposed outcome of a cosmetic procedure. Good physician-patient communication is essential to maintaining a satisfied patient. Indeed, computer video imaging, when used ethically and with adequate explanation, enhances most patients' understanding of facial cosmetic operations.

so they don’t feel compelled to eat 22 cookies. At first, they don’t think it’s possible for them to eat their favorite foods in moderation. But I’ve had a 100 percent success rate so far in helping people to stop bingeing in 30 days or less.” Peaceful Eater isn’t a diet; it is a personalized program where participants have daily accountability - and handholding – five days a week to keep them on track. Plenty of people feel anxious about the fact that they overeat. And for decades, Julie Latz was one of them. “I spent 45 years being obsessed with food,” she says. “I would gain weight, try every diet that was out there, and go through the yo-yo cycle of losing weight, but then binge and regain it. Sometimes I’d gain as much as 40 to 50 pounds, and then go back on a drastic diet.” Finally, one day about six years ago, Latz says, she had enough. “I said to myself, ‘I’m not going to live like this anymore!’” Tired of the shame and guilt around her yo-yo dieting and food obsession, she created a simple program to help herself trim down, but more importantly, to stop the madness of food addiction – and it worked. “I realized that going from diet to diet was a dead end which never has lasting results,” she says. “Dieting leads to deprivation, and deprivation leads back to bingeing.” The program helped her reach what she calls “the magic zone.” She explains: “It’s a very calm place where there’s no feeling of deprivation and no urge to binge.” Latz, based in New Rochelle, is a certified Food Psychology Coach through the Spencer Institute. For 4½ years, she’s been offering her Peaceful Eater program to oth-
ers - helping men, women and teens all over the world break free from the dieting/binge-eating cycle that is ruining their lives. “Once they stop bingeing, weight loss follows,” she says. “And as they become calm around food and learn how to eat whatever they’d like in moderation, they enjoy making conscious choices of how to nourish themselves. They feel in control of what they put in their bodies instead of feeling controlled by the food.” Latz adds: “I tell people that I’ll teach them, for instance, how to enjoy two cookies

leadership at NewYork-Presbyterian and Columbia University Medical Center as well as local dignitaries including State Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins, Westchester’ s Deputy County Executive Kevin Plunkett and Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner. “Westchester residents now have the best of both worlds: They can see Manhattan’s leading physicians close to home,’’ George A. (Jack) Cioffi, MD, president of ColumbiaDoctors, said at the opening. “They can have the most comprehensive care, evaluations, and procedures performed right in Tarrytown, where we have seamlessly integrated services to manage both routine and complex patient care. If our patients require more advanced care, they can see the same doctors at our NewYork-Presbyterian hospitals in Westchester (NYP/Lawrence in Bronxville and NYP Hudson Valley in Cortlandt Manor) and our top teaching hospitals in Manhattan. ColumbiaDoctors Tarrytown offers the most comprehensive radiology services outside a hospital in the region. The level of coordinated care offered at ColumbiaDoctors Tarrytown means that patients can reduce or eliminate travel among offices to see various providers. What do doctors do to treat their own pain? PAGE 30
June, 2016
Healthcare News - Westchester
As a board-certified internist who has been in practice for over 13 years, I spend much of my time attempting to alleviate the pain and suffering of my patients. As a clinician, one of the biggest challenges I face is helping my patients deal with musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes—those all-too-common, yet frequently debilitating ailments caused by bad backs, pinched nerves, arthritis, and the like. Unfortunately, much of what I have to offer my patients boils down to the following: take a pain pill, stretch if you can, wait, and hope for the best. After a failed trial of “conservative” therapy a call might go out to the orthopedic surgeon for assistance; a truly satisfactory result is not common. The simple fact is that physicians are not well trained to deal with musculoskeletal pain, and patients can suffer as a result. Thankfully, my views on this topic have been turned completely upside down since I havepersonally discovered Dr. Jonathan Donath’s outstanding practice. After beginning a vigorous exercise regimen I started to experience awful neck and upper back pain, accompanied by numbness and tingling down my left arm and fingers. For weeks I tried to nurse the pain with non steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, but the pain persisted and got to the point that I was almost unable to work, sleep, or most importantly, play guitar. I wasliterally in tears from the excruciating pain. A neurosurgeon diagnosed a herniated disc and pinched nerve in my neck and offered to decompress it with an operation. In desperation I called Dr. Donath instead. My visit to Dr. Donath’s office was an outstanding experience. He spent about an hour with me and combined multiple modalities to fix the herniated disc in my neck: deep massage, active release techniques, traditional manipulation, cold therapy, and finally spinal decompression. After that first hour with Dr. Donath my pain had decreased from a 10/10 down to a manageable 4/10, and I was able to comfortably move my head and neck. That very night I was able to play guitar again. Two days later I went back for another series of treatments and the pain decreased even further. After about five days the pain was absolutely gone. Unbelievable! Since then he has used the same wonderful techniques to help me overcome painful bouts of sciatica as well. My own patients and family members have become “believers” in Dr. Donath’s abilities as well--- the results he achieves are real and lasting. He is my go to guy for the majority of musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes that I now realize are truly treatable. Dr. Robert Sidlow MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine
I am a pediatrician and in my work, I have to bend down a lot and I’m constantly lifting kids. I usually have one to three bad flare ups of low back pain every year. When my back would "go out", I could barely walk to the bathroom and would have to lie down in bed for a few days. I have tried everything: doing nothing and "toughing it out", muscle relaxants, physical therapy, chiropractic, therapeutic massage, and even painful steroid injections. Nothing worked. When I moved to Westchester, I met Dr. Jonathan Donath. In just a couple of sessions with Dr. Donath, the pain completely disappeared. If it hadn't happened to me, I wouldn't have believed it. During my last flare up, I was expecting to be on my back for 2-3 days and in pain for 2 weeks. Instead, after one session with Dr. Donath, I was able to walk; two more sessions and I was fine. I could walk, bend down and I had almost no pain. Since that last back episode, Dr. Donath has helped me with my tendonitis in my right hand and with my chronic knee problems. I recommend Dr. Donath to everyone with back, muscle or joint pain. Even if you have not had relief with other treatments and other Chiropractors, give Dr. Donath a chance. I did and he changed my life. Eugene Dinkevich MD, Mount Vernon, NY It’s my great pleasure to write about Westchester Spinal Decompression Center. I really don’t have words to express my feelings about the care I got in last 3 months. I was almost handicapped, living with terrible pain all the time, crippling my day to day life. I am a medical doctor and work in a hospital with all sorts of amazing physicians, but after seeing a physical therapist, getting epidural steroids injections, many orthopedists and neurosurgeons, finally my destination lead me to see Dr Jonathan Donath. With great skepticism, I lied down for spinal decompression therapy. It was unbelievable that after only two initial sessions, my radiating pain down my leg had almost disappeared. Gradually, I started getting better, started doing exercises that they gave me midway through the treatment. Now, I am doing all my daily activities without any pain. I highly recommend Dr Jonathan and his colleague Dr Kavita for any problems related to the musculoskeletal system, you will definitely feel at home and will get better.
