After helping hundreds of Westchester County herniated disc sufferers eliminated their pain, Local Doctor explains how…

“Back Pain Technology Cheats Mother Nature Helps Herniated Discs Heal Naturally… In As Little As 25 Minutes!” At Last! Westchester County Doctor Offers Technology That Doesn’t Just End SEVERE Pain From Herniated Discs, But Helps Your Body To Start Rebuilding Them… As Fast As Humanly Possible! Best Part: You can check it all out for FREE if you like! There is no doubt… technology has made all of our lives better… and easier. Just about every miraculous medical cure and comfort of modern living can be attributed to amazing breakthroughs in technology. Heck, laser eye surgery can give people who are almost as blind as a bat perfect 20/20 vision. How amazing is that? That’s why it’s no surprise that technology might be able to solve your back and neck pain from herniated/bulging discs or sciatica…for good. Here is why: Back and neck pain can be devastating. And nothing is worse than going to doctor after doctor… trying treatment after treatment… spending money you can’t afford… and still suffering in pain. That’s why… I bet you would love to instantly end your pain… without any risk what-soever… and have it never come back for the rest of your life? Well, that might NOT be so easy. But, what if there was a wonderful advancement in technology that, with a handful of simple, non-invasive treatments, could possibly have you out of pain and on your way to healing naturally? Better yet, what if this technology could possibly heal your herniated/bulging discs (instead of cutting it out like surgery) so you have the best chance to live pain-free and do all the things you want and love to do? And what if this technology was: 3 FDA cleared! 3 Proven safe and effective! 3 Allows your herniated discs to heal naturally without the risky and dangerous side effects of surgery! 3 Relieves pain fast… in some cases in as little as 25 minutes! Well, guess what? There is such technology and there is a very good chance it can help you… like it has already helps thousands of herniated/bulging disc and sciatica sufferers all around the country… No Matter How Bad Your Pain Is, How Long You’ve Been Suffering Or How Many Other Treatments And Doctors Have Failed You! Don’t laugh. It’s really true. Here’s proof…

When you have a herniated disc, compressive forces cause your spinal bones to come together… basically squashing your disc. The space in between your bones decreases and the soft, jello-like disc material leaks out. This disc material that leaks out is called a herniated disc and can cause severe pain, numbness and tingling in your neck, back, arms or legs when the herniation pushes into and “pinches” a nerve. So it makes sense, if you could slightly pull the spinal bones apart… that would open up the space, take the pressure off the disc, the disc off the nerve and solve the problem. Right? But the only problem is… how do you do that? For years and years, doctors have been trying to do it with traction. But traction has been proven ineffective and often very painful. Why? Traction doesn’t work because when you have a herniated or bulging disc, the area is injured and when you try to move, your muscles go into spasm. Spasm is your body’s way of trying to protect you from causing further injury. That’s why traction hurts so much. As soon as the traction starts… your muscles overprotect the area and spasm. But the good news is: Now there is technology that out-smarts your body’s natural spasm reaction. In other words: It fools mother nature! This technology is called non-surgical spinal decompression (NSSD) and here’s how it works… NSSD is very different from plain traction because it has advanced computer technology that actually senses your spinal muscles. When it starts to gently pull, it immediately knows when your muscles start to contract and it stops pulling. As soon as your muscles relax, it starts pulling again. The amazing thing is: the computer senses your muscles contraction so early… you don’t even feel what is going on. Which means you never feel any pain! In fact, the only thing most patients feel is… RELIEF!!! But the best part is: NSSD is able to gently separate your spinal bones which, in many cases, actually sucks the herniated disc material back into the disc where it belongs! This takes away your pain and allows your herniated and bulging discs to heal naturally!

And check this out: Treatments are pleasant and simple. All you have to do is lie on your back, listen to your favorite music, read a magazine… or… take a nap! The wonderful technology does everything while you simply RELAX the pain away! To sum up NSSD: • For most patients it is 100% painless… in fact many patients actually fall asleep during treatment! • Works fast! Most patients get relief after a handful of treatments – some after the very first! • Is non-invasive so it does not have the dangerous risks of surgery! • Gets to the root cause of the problem and helps it heal naturally! Isn’t modern technology wonderful? And wouldn’t you like to… Give This Great Technology A Try… For Free? If you would, there’s great news. There is a Doctor located at 222 Westchester Ave. Suite 405 in White Plains who has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in this wonderful technology and has been treating herniated/bulging disc and sciatica patients with incredible success. His name is Dr. Jonathan Donath DC, MS and he is so excited about the results he’s been getting, he would like to share it with as many pain sufferers as possible. But There Is A Catch… There’s always a catch... isn’t there? Even though this technology has helped a majority of the patients Dr. Donath has treated… it is not a wonder cure and it does not help everyone.

On the right: healthy disc. Center: Herniated disc with soft disc material leaking out. On the left: Herniated disc material compressing or “pinching” nerve.

For that reason, Dr. Donath does a complete examination on every potential patient and only accepts you if he feels you are most likely to get the pain relief and outcome you are looking for. Dr. Donath’s Special Deal For You! Because the economy is so bad and Dr. Donath wants to help you if possible, he is offering the first 17 people who respond to this article a free consultation and NSSD qualification examination. And if you qualify for NSSD treatments, Dr. Donath will also give you one treatment for FREE! And if you do not qualify, Dr. Donath will help you find the best option for you. That’s why, if you suffer with pain from a herniated/bulging disc or sciatica you should call 914-259-8104 right now. When Barbara answers the phone, simply tell her you would like your free non-surgical spinal decompression consultation and examination. If you are one of the first 17, she will schedule you within the next few days. If you are in a lot of pain or already scheduled for surgery, tell Barbara and she will be sure to get you in immediately. Maybe even today.

On right: Herniated disc with spinal bones “squished” together. Center: NSSD slightly pulls the spinal bones apart, opens up the disc space and allows herniated material to move back into the disc. Left: Herniated material completely back in center of disc allows the disc to heal naturally. Your consultation and examination should take about 60 minutes. During this time you can get all of your questiones answered in a warm and friendly environment. You will know exactly what’s causing your pain and the best possible way to solve it. Dr. Donath will explain to you all your possible options along with his recomendations so you can make the best choice for YOU.

Why Limited To 17? Dr. Donath has limited the number he will accept right now to 17 because he does not believe patients should wait and they should also get the quality personal attention they deserve. When you go for your free visit, I’m sure you will see how unique and pleasant the experience is. It’s nice to be treated like a person and not a number or based on insurance coverage. It’s also nice to know exactly what’s causing your pain and how to relieve it as fast as possible. Dr. Donath’s favorite cases are the one’s that were able to cancel back surgery after only a handful of treatments. Dr. Donath also loves when a herniated disc patient that is in excruciating pain and thinks they’ve tried everything, lays down on the NSSD table, takes a 25 minute nap… and… wakes up with all their pain GONE! Just imagine how it would feel to have all your pain finally gone. Imagine going to bed and being able to sleep the entire night through… … and waking up refreshed and energized… ready to take on the brand new day – without the pain and stiffness that has been terrorizing you. And imagine finally knowing you have the solution to your herniated disc pain. Well, you may not have to just “imagine” anymore… because… NSSD might start relieving your pain… in just 25 minutes! So, if you’d like to see if you qualify and give this amazing technology a try for free… give Barbara a call at 914-259-8104 right now. Why wait one more day in pain when the solution may be one quick phone call away? Call now before someone else gets your free spot. One More Thing It’s Important… Ever since getting this wonderful technology, Dr. Donath’s office has been flooded with calls. For that reason, if when you call, the lines are busy or you go to voice mail… just keep calling back. The possibility of living pain-free is well worth the time and effort it may take you to get through and schedule your appointment. 914-259-8104

The BCW presents awards to “40 Under 40” Winners

Forty of Westchester County’s up-and-coming business leaders last night received the 2015 “Rising Star” Award from The Business Council of Westchester. In presenting the awards to the next class of winners, BCW President and CEO Marsha Gordon said the honorees are some of the finest young talents in the region and exemplify all that’s great with Westchester’s business community. “Westchester has one of the most highly educated workforces in the country, and we know that CEOs, entrepreneurs and business owners are looking for young and talented professionals. They are seeking people like you,” Gordon told the honorees during her remarks at 800 Westchester Avenue in Rye Brook. “What’s great about the Rising Stars program and our winners is that they are a reflection of the community. They are reflection of the creativity, drive, energy and can-do spirit of the young professionals in Westchester County.” This year’s winners represent a wide-range of professionals from various backgrounds including marketing, advertising, public safety, government, media, health care, education, social work, hospitality and nonprofits, among others. The selection process was competitive and led by Maria Bronzi, Director at Altium Wealth Management. Bronzi, who is chair of the Rising Stars program, received “40 Under 40” honors in 2011. During the ceremony, County Executive Robert P. Astorino commended The BCW and the Rising stars program, saying that each has strengthened Westchester and its business climate. “This annual reception is a Westchester tradition, but the Rising Stars program has become a Westchester institution. It is part of what makes this county a special place to live and work,” said Astorino. “The Business Council appreciates talent.

Westchester has a lot of it, which is why this award is so coveted. And the Business Council cultivates talent, giving our young professionals the resources they need to thrive in their careers. Thank you to the Business Council for conceiving of the program and growing it over the years.” News12’s Tara Rosenblum, who earned “40 Under 40” honors in 2007, was the emcee. Michael J. Fosina, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of NewYork Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital, gave the keynote address. The awards were given out on June 11 at 800 Westchester Avenue, Rye Brook. The annual awards ceremony is modeled after the national business recognition program “Forty under Forty” and Rising Stars is specifically designed to recognize individuals under the age of 40 who exemplify leadership, foresight and a vision for the future of Westchester County. Winners were selected based on professional and/or entrepreneurial accomplishments, demonstrated

leadership qualities and professional and/or business affiliations. The county’s largest and most influential business membership organization, The Business Council of Westchester is committed to helping businesses market, learn, advocate and grow. In addition, The Business Council of Westchester is actively involved in reviewing federal, state and county legislation and regulations in order to assess the potential impact on the business community and to influence the outcomes through advocacy when the business community’s interests may be affected. It also acts as an information resource for the business community and government leaders at all levels.

This month’s edition of Healthcare News is headlined by our list of the top doctors in Westchester County. One of the biggest advantages to living in Westchester is that we have some of the best medical care around—and presented in this issue are the top physicians. Healthcare News sent more than 1,000 questionnaires to Westchester doctors, asking them to recommend a doctor (other than themselves) to whom they would send a loved one for expert medical care. The doctors featured in this issue have been recommended by their peers, then researched, reviewed, and vetted by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. Castle Connolly identifies top doctors, both nationally and regionally, based on an extensive nominations process open to all licensed physicians in the U.S. The Castle Connolly physician-led research team reviews and screens all nominated physicians before selecting those regarded as the most outstanding healthcare providers to be Top Doctors. Physicians do not and cannot pay to be selected as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor. With such a wide array of specialties covered, this issue of Healthcare News makes a very good place to begin your search for medical help. As always, it needs to be said that every physician who makes the list is a good one, or at least a recommended one, but not every good physician in Westchester necessarily makes the list. We suggest you use this list as a reference, not the final word. You must ultimately do your own due diligence and decide which doctor is right for you. Enjoy the issue and congratulations to our top doctors! Cheryl Burke, MS, MBA, RNBC, WCC, a nurse educator at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, received the “Top Nurse Award” at Hudson Valley Magazine’s 8th annual “Excellence in Nursing” awards event, held recently at The Grandview in Poughkeepsie. The event took place during National Nurses Week and celebrated the region’s finest nurses. Cheryl Burke received the highest honor for her remarkable nursing career that has demonstrated what nursing excellence is. “In addition to being innovative, Cheryl is nurturing, enthusiastic and above all, patient, in her position as a clinical educator,” said Mary McDermott, Chief Nursing Officer at Phelps. “She is a true role model in pursuit of excellence in patient care and she encourages staff to participate in scholarly activities, which demonstrates her commitment to lift up those around her. Cheryl truly deserves this recognition.” A Registered Professional Nurse, Burke has significantly impacted the lives of thousands of patients and their families over the course of her 35-year nursing career. She has increased the knowledge of countless RNs and has been a valuable asset to Phelps by bringing numerous patient care programs to life. Programs she helped develop, including the Rapid Response Team and the

palliative care and stroke programs, have contributed to better care for hospitalized patients. Her most recent display of commitment to the hospital and community has been the implementation of the NICHE program (Nurses Improving Care of Health System Elders) to meet the needs of geriatric patients, which has achieved Level 3 (Senior Friendly level). In her 10 years at Phelps as a clinical educator, she has successfully oriented more that 100 new staff members to the professional role of the RN. She also is a resource to several local colleges, working with senior students on their projects. Burke’s commitment to her community is inspirational. She participates annually in the Sleepy Hollow Health fair as a volunteer. She is committed to improving the wellness of the community and works closely in the hospital’s wellness initiative. She developed a stroke support group that was extremely well received by attendees, and she continues to be a resource for one of her first stroke support group members. UP TO $3MM OF LIFE INSURANCE WITH NO MEDICAL UNDERWRITING! By Andrew J. Cavaliere, CLTC

Are you looking for additional life insurance coverage…? Would you like to be able to purchase up to $3,000,000 of permanent life insurance with no medical underwriting…? Sounds too good to be true…? Well it is not, provided you already have coverage in force.

Many folks today want more life insurance to protect their families and their business interests, but do not want to go through the inconvenience of the full underwriting process. This process can include a lengthy application, full financial disclosure, blood & urine screening, a paramedical exam, an EKG exam, a DMV report, an MIB report and the release of all medical records. Some people just do not have the time or the interest to go through this process… others are just plain scared of needles...! Either way, this protocol which can take many months to complete can be easily avoided.

This Rapid App program is offered by Guardian Life Insurance Company, one of the highest rated carriers in the industry. The carrier will match up to 2X the death benefit of any existing life insurance policy that you have purchased in the last (4) years. The application process is extremely simple and policies are issued in weeks rather than months. Both Whole Life and Universal Life insurance policies are offered. It is important to note that clients must be between the ages of 20-60 and must have been approved standard or better. In addition, Disability Waiver of Premium is available. The Disability Waiver of Premium rider, when attached to an eligible life insurance policy, helps you continue your policy’s coverage during disability. It does so by waiving the premiums on a policy when the insured has suffered from a debilitating disability that has lasted for at least six months. What are the eligibility criteria? ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢

Insurance policies must be fully underwritten within the last four (4) years. Program is open to individuals with life insurance policies from an approved carrier list of 99 companies. Policy must not have been issued as a result of reinsurance. Risk class must be standard or better with no flat extras. Insured must be between the ages of 20 and 60. Existing policies must be placed and in force. New contract cannot replace existing policy.

You are never going to be any younger or any healthier than you are right now. If you have purchased life insurance recently and feel you need more, do not delay. The Rapid App program is one of the easiest ways to secure permanent life insurance coverage with one of the best carriers in the market. See the carrier’s ratings:

You must protect your assets, family and future now!

The Importance of Elder Law: For nearly 30 years, practicing law has been Ely Rosenzveig’s passion. His inspiration? That comes from, among other things, his life experiences, the people he has met, and the clients he works with every day. The widow who didn’t have a will and was concerned about her financial future. The family that was reeling from health issues impacting their elderly loved ones without any planning in place to address their needs, leaving them with the prospect of exorbitantly expensive care needs. Ely Rosenzveig was a rabbi in Westchester County. The plight of some in his congregation moved him to practice elder law and trust and estate planning. He would become a senior partner at one of the foremost elder law firms in the country, but left to join hands with his son, Ariel. “I really jumped at the opportunity to work in this area of law,” Ely Rosenzveig said. “I think it’s special kind of work. To help people and work with your son is incredibly rewarding. Ariel is a great asset – a wonderful and gifted young attorney.” The law firm of Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, P.C. in White Plains practices in all areas of elder law, including trust and

estate planning, administration, and litigation, tax counsel, asset protection and special needs planning, Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security disability benefits, guardianships, long term care planning, spousal recovery claims, and Medicaid lien resolutions. Father and son pride themselves on an unyielding commitment to the zealous advocacy of their clients’ interests. Estate planning is one of the most important steps any person can take to make sure that their final property and health care wishes are honored, and that loved ones are provided for in their absence. A comprehensive estate plan can resolve a number of legal questions that arise whenever anyone dies. Appropriate estate and Medicaid planning can help preserve assets, reduce taxes, and help individuals qualify for Medicaid. “People don’t want to talk about illness and death,” Ariel Rosenzveig said. “It’s a tough subject. People are reluctant, but the type of measures that we implement for our clients can save them and their loved ones a lot of money. Proper planning will help provide financial and emotional security for all involved.”

The firm is very experienced in making sure that those eligible for Medicaid and Medicare get the benefits they deserve. Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, P.C. has been very successful in negotiating the complex bureaucratic minefield in which Medicaid is now mired, a dynamic only exacerbated with the passage of the Deficit reduction Act of 2006, and the new rules regarding the look-back requirements, and penalty period calculations for non-Medicaid exempt asset transfers. The firm has achieved remarkable results for clients on a host of Medicaid related issues, from getting Medicaid approvals for coverage of home care and institutional care benefits, to very accommodative resolutions of Medicaid spousal recovery claims, where the office of Medicaid aggressively pursues the non-institutionalized (i.e., or “community”) spouse for Medicaid benefits provided. No matter what the case, Ely J. Rosenzveig & Associates, P.C. prides itself on working with each client individually, catering to each one’s diverse needs. Estate planning should begin at a young age with a will, health care proxy, living

will and durable power of attorney. As you grow older and accumulate assets, it is especially important that you speak with an experience elder law attorney issues pertaining to issues concerning Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and further estate planning. Elder law is about more than just saving money. When viewed properly, elder law is about two major things: First, ensuring that your personal wishes — financial, medical, and legal — are carried out; and second, understanding that elder law is a family matter affecting an intricate web of individual relationships. Knowing that your potential long-term care needs have already been addressed frees you and your family from needless worry. And Ely and Ariel Rosenzveig are there to help their cherished clients every step of the way. “We want every client to feel like they are our only client,” Ely Rosenzveig said. “We are totally committed to ensuring that we be fully responsive to our clients’ every need. For us, this is tremendously rewarding. It is the very reason why we have become elder law attorneys.”

Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center announced that former patient Ryan Reyes, now in remission from non-Hodgkin lymphoma, has been named the 2015 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Champion for New York State. As Champion, Ryan, 16, of Brooklyn, New York, will serve as an ambassador for Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, the entire state, and all the children cared for by the 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across North America. Among Ryan’s duties as Champion will be to travel to Washington, D.C., this week where he and other state Champions will share their amazing stories with national lawmakers and public officials. Ryan will also participate in Children’s Miracle Network’s annual Momentum event at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida in February 2016. TOP DOCTORS OF WESTCHESTER—DR. ALEX HILARIO, CLINIC DIRECTOR

Chiropractic Rehabilitation Source

ChiroRehabSource.com Tel: 914-584-6864 199 Main Street, Suite 608, White Plains, NY 10601

If you're suffering from nerve problems in the arms and legs, you must read about a clinical study that showed

How 85% of Patients Eliminated Numbness, Tingling, or Sharp Pains Numbness, tingling, and pain are extremely annoying problems.

It may come and go...interrupts your sleep...and even makes your arm or legs feel weak at times. Maybe you've even been to other doctors and they claim all the tests indicate you should feel fine.

If You Read Nothing Else, Read This:

More than 20 million Americans suffer from peripheral neuropathy, a problem caused by damage to the nerves that supply your arms and legs.

This painful condition interferes with your body's ability to transmit messages to your muscles, skin, joints, or internal organs. If ignored or mistreated, neuropathy can lead to irreversible health conditions.

Why not get help by those trained to correct the major cause of peripheral neuropathy. Read the full facts on this page.

More Pills Are Not the Solution A common treatment for many nerve problems is the 'take some pills and wait and see' method.

While this may be necessary for temporary relief of severe symptoms, using them long term is no way to live. Some of the more common drugs given include pain pills, anti-seizure mediations, and anti-depressants -- all of which have serious side effects.

The Likely Cause of Your Problem My name is Dr. Alex Hilario, clinic director at Chiropractic Rehabilitation Source. I've been helping people with neuropathy and nerve problems for more than 10 years.

Often neuropathy is caused by a degenerating spine pressing on the nerve roots. This can happen in any of the vertebral joints from the neck all the way down to the tail bone.

The good news is that chiropractic treatments have proven effective in helping to remove the pressure on the nerves.

By using gentle techniques, I'm able to release the pressure that has built up on the nerve. This allows the nerve to heal and the symptoms to go away. For example, numerous studies have proven chiropractic's effectiveness in helping nerve conditions.

Patients showed an 85.5% resolution of the nerve symptoms after only 9 chiropractic treatments. - Journal of Chiropractic Medicine 2008

With chiropractic care, patients had “significant improvement in perceived comfort and function, nerve conduction and finger sensation overall.” – JMPT 1998

“Significant increase in grip strength and normalization of motor and sensory latencies were noted. Orthopedic tests were negative. Symptoms dissipated.” – JMPT 1994

What these studies mean is that you could soon be enjoying life...without those aggravating nerve problems.

Could This Be Your Solution? It’s time for you to find out if chiropractic will be your neuropathy solution.

For 14 days only, $30 will get you all the services I normally charge new patients $250 for!

What does this offer include? Everything. Take a look at what you will receive:

• An in-depth consultation about your health and well-being where I will listen…really listen…to the details of your case. • A complete neuromuscular examination. • A thorough analysis of your exam and x-ray findings so we can start mapping out your plan to being pain free. • I'll answer your most probing questions about nerve problems and how chiropractic can help.

Until September 10, 2015 you can get everything I’ve listed here for only $47. The normal price for this type of evaluation is $250, so you’re saving a considerable amount by taking me up on this offer. Call 914-584-6864 now.

We can get you scheduled for your consultation, and exam as soon as there’s an opening.

Our office is located in the heart of White Plains near Starbucks, Galleria Mall and Wal-Mart, when you call, tell the receptionist you’d like to come in for the Nerve Evaluation so she can get you on the schedule and make sure you receive proper credit for this special offer. Sincerely, Alex Hilario, D.C. P.S. Remember, you only have until September 10 to reserve an appointment at this significant discount. Why suffer for years in misery? That’s no way to live, not when there could be an easy solution to your problem.

P.P.S. Nothing’s worse than feeling great mentally, but physically feeling held back from life because your arms or legs hurt – and the pain just won’t go away! Take me up on my offer and call today 914-584-6864.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Opens State-of-the-Art Cath Lab at Lawrence Hospital

Dr. Mark Apfelbaum often sees a look of relief on patients’ faces when he treats them at the new NewYork-Presbyterian Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville. Having any type of heart procedure can be unnerving, but undergoing it close to home at a world-class facility gives patients piece of mind. NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital opened its high tech Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory approximately five weeks ago. “The response we are getting from patients and their families has been extremely positive,” said Dr. Mark Apfelbaum, director of the NewYork-Presbyterian Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital and associate professor of medicine at Columbia University Medical Center. “It can be a little intimidating undergoing these types of tests, especially when you have to drive to an unfamiliar hospital. From day one, I have seen how comfortable patients are here, and that means a lot to the entire staff at NYP/Lawrence.” For patients requiring catheterization, a type of life-saving intervention, access to a catheterization lab is critical to ensure quick restoration of blood flow to the heart by opening the arteries. Historically, patients in Westchester County traveled to hospitals further away to receive this treatment. However, when someone is having a heart attack, quick treatment is vital to reducing damage to the heart and even saving a life. That’s why in part NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital chose to open a Cath Lab in Bronxville. Its heart program is ranked #1 in New York State and #3 in the country, according to U.S. News and World Report. Now local residents can experience that same level of care at NYP/Lawrence. Its Cath Lab is staffed by interventional cardiologists and electrophysiologists from ColumbiaDoctors, the faculty practice of Columbia University. It provides a variety of minimally invasive procedures such as coronary stenting, heart biopsy, and pacemaker implantation and is one of few centers in Westchester County licensed to perform emergency cardiac angioplasty for patients having a heart attack.

Mark Apfelbaum, MD Director, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at NYP/Lawrence.

“We see and treat our patients very quickly, which makes a big difference for them,” Apfelbaum said. “The sooner you can treat a patient and get into an artery, the better they will do, the better they will recover. Patients are greatly benefiting from the world-class care at NYP/Lawrence.” NYP/Lawrence’s Cath Lab is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is conveniently located near the hospital’s emergency room, which can save precious minutes in transit for patients experiencing a heart attack. In addition to the emergency and diagnostic procedures offered, patients can also undergo routine testing via angiograms and cardiac imaging. In an angiogram, doctors take a series of X-rays of the heart to search for narrowing and blockages. Cardiac imaging allows doctors to screen for narrowing arteries via a specially designed catheter with ultrasound tips. Patients who may require more advanced cardiac care will have easy access to surgeons at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. “I have been an attending at Columbia for 25 years,” Apfelbaum said. “For me, the opening of the Cardiac Cath Lab is something new and very exciting. Now being here at NYP/Lawrence and getting such a great response from the community is very rewarding.” To learn more about the Cath Lab, please call 914-787-2270. Keep Moving with Arthritis! Healthcare News - Westchester August, 2015

Whether it's the arthritic hip stiffness you feel rising from bed each morning and taking your first steps of the day or perhaps the knee ache experienced when climbing stairsit is important you keep moving. The pain of osteoarthritisthe most common type of arthritis, is caused by the deterioration of the joint through chronic inflammation and bone on bone rubbing due to inadequate lubricating joint fluid and cartilage. With pain present it is natural instinct to avoid movement and keep still. The thought of exercise for many individuals with arthritis is often unthinkable, with the popular belief that movement will aggravate the pain. However, truth be told, the lack of movement can make your arthritic joint stiffer and more painful. Not moving can cause stiffness, inflexibility, and muscle weakness, which all can make matters worse and ultimately cause disability. Avoiding movement and not exercising weakens surrounding muscles and tissues- in turn causing more stress to the joint and your bones. When it comes to arthritis, movement and exercise can help reduce pain, increase your mobility, and improve your joint stability. You may be thinking right about now, how you could actually keep moving with your arthritis pain? To tolerate everyday physical activity and make exercise with arthritis less challenging, it is vital to prepare your body.

Tips to reduce arthritic pain during exercise and keep moving include: • Stretch daily to minimize stiffness • Perform warm ups and cool downs with every work out • Take your preferred pain medication 20-30 minutes prior to exercising • Use a heating pad before working out and ice afterward • Keep a healthy weight to decrease the load on your joints • Incorporate exercises that reduce weight on your joints to your work out regimen. For example swimming/water aerobics, recumbent bike, and elliptical machine.

For more specific recommendations, consult with a physical therapist. As mobility experts, physical therapists can advise you on safe exercises and how to modify your exercise routine to manage your arthritis and keep you moving. For more information about keeping moving with arthritis please call 914 458 2249 or email info@ahy4life.com.

Graduates from the Class of 2015 Owen (left) and Caleb

The John A. Coleman School’s White Plains campus graduated a total of 60 students on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, including six children from its inclusive nursery school, Children’s Place, as part of their 46th Annual Commencement Ceremony. The ceremony was attended by students, their loved ones, staff from the Coleman School and the Children’s Rehabilitation Center and, of course, our friends and supporters in the community. White Plains Mayor, the Honorable Thomas M. Roach was on hand, as were Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins (DN.Y.) and White Plains City Councilwoman Milagros Lecouna. The event kicked off with a graduation procession with all of our graduates marching to Pomp and Circumstance. After, this year’s commencement speaker, Michael Welling, the father of Matthew from the Class of 2011, spoke to attendees and reflected on his family’s life-changing experience at the Coleman School. According to Welling, the Coleman School transformed his son into the confident, courageous, “Coleman kid” he is today. Nerissa Johnson, a graduate from the Class of 2000 and the recipient of this year’s St. Elizabeth

Seton Children’s Foundation Alumni Award, expressed similar sentiments of gratitude and told all those in attendance that she would not be the independent and successful person she is today without the support and dedication of the Coleman School and Children’s Rehabilitation Center staff. After, the Class of 2015 and the Coleman School’s Employee Choir performed a graduation song called, “Lift Up Your Voices,” which was written and composed by the school’s music specialist, Jennifer Arco. “Graduation is such a joyous event for the entire John A. Coleman School community,” said Maureen Tomkiel, Executive Director of the Coleman School. “In their young lives, these graduates have already accomplished so much and have persevered over countless obstacles and for that we couldn’t be prouder of their achievements. We wish our Class of 2015 and their families all the best as they transition into the larger educational community and beyond,” she said. Learn more about the John A. What do doctors do to treat their own pain? PAGE 30

August, 2015

Healthcare News - Westchester

As a board-certified internist who has been in practice for over 13 years, I spend much of my time attempting to alleviate the pain and suffering of my patients. As a clinician, one of the biggest challenges I face is helping my patients deal with musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes—those all-too-common, yet frequently debilitating ailments caused by bad backs, pinched nerves, arthritis, and the like. Unfortunately, much of what I have to offer my patients boils down to the following: take a pain pill, stretch if you can, wait, and hope for the best. After a failed trial of “conservative” therapy a call might go out to the orthopedic surgeon for assistance; a truly satisfactory result is not common. The simple fact is that physicians are not well trained to deal with musculoskeletal pain, and patients can suffer as a result. Thankfully, my views on this topic have been turned completely upside down since I havepersonally discovered Dr. Jonathan Donath’s outstanding practice. After beginning a vigorous exercise regimen I started to experience awful neck and upper back pain, accompanied by numbness and tingling down my left arm and fingers. For weeks I tried to nurse the pain with non steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, but the pain persisted and got to the point that I was almost unable to work, sleep, or most importantly, play guitar. I wasliterally in tears from the excruciating pain. A neurosurgeon diagnosed a herniated disc and pinched nerve in my neck and offered to decompress it with an operation. In desperation I called Dr. Donath instead. My visit to Dr. Donath’s office was an outstanding experience. He spent about an hour with me and combined multiple modalities to fix the herniated disc in my neck: deep massage, active release techniques, traditional manipulation, cold therapy, and finally spinal decompression. After that first hour with Dr. Donath my pain had decreased from a 10/10 down to a manageable 4/10, and I was able to comfortably move my head and neck. That very night I was able to play guitar again. Two days later I went back for another series of treatments and the pain decreased even further. After about five days the pain was absolutely gone. Unbelievable! Since then he has used the same wonderful techniques to help me overcome painful bouts of sciatica as well. My own patients and family members have become “believers” in Dr. Donath’s abilities as well--- the results he achieves are real and lasting. He is my go to guy for the majority of musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain syndromes that I now realize are truly treatable. Dr. Robert Sidlow MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine

I am a pediatrician and in my work, I have to bend down a lot and I’m constantly lifting kids. I usually have one to three bad flare ups of low back pain every year. When my back would "go out", I could barely walk to the bathroom and would have to lie down in bed for a few days. I have tried everything: doing nothing and "toughing it out", muscle relaxants, physical therapy, chiropractic, therapeutic massage, and even painful steroid injections. Nothing worked. When I moved to Westchester, I met Dr. Jonathan Donath. In just a couple of sessions with Dr. Donath, the pain completely disappeared. If it hadn't happened to me, I wouldn't have believed it. During my last flare up, I was expecting to be on my back for 2-3 days and in pain for 2 weeks. Instead, after one session with Dr. Donath, I was able to walk; two more sessions and I was fine. I could walk, bend down and I had almost no pain. Since that last back episode, Dr. Donath has helped me with my tendonitis in my right hand and with my chronic knee problems. I recommend Dr. Donath to everyone with back, muscle or joint pain. Even if you have not had relief with other treatments and other Chiropractors, give Dr. Donath a chance. I did and he changed my life. Eugene Dinkevich MD, Mount Vernon, NY It’s my great pleasure to write about Westchester Spinal Decompression Center. I really don’t have words to express my feelings about the care I got in last 3 months. I was almost handicapped, living with terrible pain all the time, crippling my day to day life. I am a medical doctor and work in a hospital with all sorts of amazing physicians, but after seeing a physical therapist, getting epidural steroids injections, many orthopedists and neurosurgeons, finally my destination lead me to see Dr Jonathan Donath. With great skepticism, I lied down for spinal decompression therapy. It was unbelievable that after only two initial sessions, my radiating pain down my leg had almost disappeared. Gradually, I started getting better, started doing exercises that they gave me midway through the treatment. Now, I am doing all my daily activities without any pain. I highly recommend Dr Jonathan and his colleague Dr Kavita for any problems related to the musculoskeletal system, you will definitely feel at home and will get better.
