Róma suburbiuma. Egy antik fogalom hátterének vázlatos ismertetése Ormos Bálint

The present paper does not describe an area that can be precisely defined geographically or grasped in an exact way by ancient Latin terms. The study outlines a few social and cultural features of the idea that can be linked to the suburbium (suburbs) of Rome. Suburban properties, for example a villa or an estate in the suburbs of ancient Rome referred to the social status and cultural ambitions of the former owners between the 2nd century BC and 2nd century AD, as the authors of the cited sources belonged to the contemporary social and cultural elite of Rome. The paper thus summarizes specific elements of an elitist concept. Keywords: suburbs, society, culture, Rome
