A Nagy Chorográfiák. A korabeli földrajzi tudás közvetítői vagy térképek „szövegkönyvei”?1 Csapó Fanni The humanist geography appeared in Hungary at the end of the 15 th century. As suddenly as it appeared, the Hungary-chorography disappeared quickly from historians’ repertoire. After the 16 th century, we can not read geographical description of Hungary in the historical summary works about the country. In the 15th and 16th century, the most important aim for humanist historians was the reliable and accurate description of contemporary Hungary. In my essay, I would like to examine the relationship between Hungary-chorography of Pietro Ransano, Antonio Bonfini, István Brodarics, Miklós Oláh and map which was used by these humanists to write their work. Keywords: chorography, map, Hungary, humanism, 15th–16th century
