The annual Bemidji Jaycees Water Carnival event has been a long time community treasure and tradition. This 4th of July celebration of events includes kids parade and events, carnival and midway, food, live entertainment, ski show, medallion hunt, Sunday grand parade, and of course the ever popular Red, White and Boom fireworks show.

DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL

AUGUST 3-6, 2022

The Dragon Boat Festival, held the first weekend in August, draws thousands to the waterfront each year. Each Dragon Boat team consists of 20 paddlers, a steersperson, and a drummer. The race runs 450–500 meters in length with teams racing every twelve minutes. The festivities begin Friday with a Parade of Teams opening ceremony and sprint races. Saturday is a full day of racing, music, kids’ activities, awards, and closing ceremonies. Each night, the Dragon’s Den features live music and dancing.

BLUE OX MARATHON

OCTOBER 7-8, 2022

The Bemidji Blue Ox Marathon in October offers several races for those looking to run their first, farthest, or fastest race. The events include a 26K lake loop marathon, a half-plus, a 13.1-mile half marathon, a 10K, a 5K, and a 1K kids’ race. The marathon course includes a trip around Lake Bemidji.

FIRST CITY OF LIGHTS

Kick off the holiday season with the 26th Annual Night We Light Parade and Celebration, where it is a tradition to light up the town with over half a million lights illuminated in Paul Bunyan Park, Downtown Bemidji, and Bemidji South Shore. Featured displays are Paul Bunyan’s Christmas Tree, Fountain of Hope, Nature Trail, and Salute to Heroes. Until mid February, enjoy the lights with a walk through Paul Bunyan Park, take a selfie next to the #Bemidji sign, and simply take in the sights of Paul & Babe in the breathtaking winter scenery.
